Favorite Meat

in All Posts

I have decided…. scallops are my favorite meat (if seafood counts as a meat, which I think it does…. but that is up for debate!).  I had been thinking about scallops all day long (in case you can’t tell, Mondays are "fish day" in our house) and when Future Husband came home, he mentioned that he wanted scallops, too!

It was fate. Very delicious fate.

To me, the perfect scallop dish requires butter, lemon, pepper, parsley, and asparagus.  So, that is what we had for dinner. 🙂

DSCN0022

We stir fried 0.5 pound of bay scallops in the wok with about 1/2 tablespoon of butter, 1 tablespoon pepper, 1/2 tablespoon dried parsley, and two or three tablespoons of lemon juice.

On the side, we had brown rice and steamed asparagus.

Sad Gym-Time News

I was on the elliptical when I saw Obama’s grandmother had passed away from cancer…. on the eve of the election! It broke my heart.  Whether you’re a Democrat or a Republican, isn’t that just the saddest news you’ve ever heard?  That just goes to show…. death waits for nothing, not even the presidential election.  Treat each day like it’s your last, and love your family and friends like there’s no tomorrow!

That was a rather gloomy introduction to my workout summary, but otherwise it was a very nice experience.  I did 20 minutes on the elliptical, 10 on the stationary bike, and lifted weights for some arm strength-training (sleeveless wedding dress, sleeveless wedding dress!!).

Here are my statistics:

  • Duration: 42 minutes
  • Average Heart Rate: 116 bpm
  • Maximum Heart Rate: 144 bpm
  • Calories Burned: 192

Other Snacks of the Day

Standing in line at the grocery store, my blood sugar started to go haywire, so I ate a Z-Bar. 🙂

Before the gym, I had a slice of WW toast with Laughing Cow.

And around 3, I had a pear.  Delish!

Tutor Time

I’ve got to go quiz Future Husband for his BIG acupuncture midterm.  Wish him luck!

What is your favorite type of seafood? I’d say tilapia runs a close second to scallops, because it is always so affordable and such a great base flavor for so many different cooking methods.

I really enjoy tilapia and would say it’s my favorite, but recently I’ve been enjoying salmon

  • Kimberly November 3, 2008, 6:57 pm

A girl after my own heart! Scallops are my favorite food pretty much ever (they are the reason I could never go 100% vegetarian.) The caramelized sea scallops at Seasons 52… man, I *dream* of that dish.

I was devastated by the news of Obama’s grandmother. To pass the very night before seeing your grandson (hopefully) become the first black American President… if it were written into a movie, no one would believe it. What a bittersweet day tomorrow will be for him.

  • Fitnessista November 3, 2008, 6:57 pm

it’s tied between shrimp and tuna steak
    i despise canned tuna, though
hope you have a great night 😀

Salmon, Oysters, Chilean Sea Bass, Striped Bass… When I lived in Hawaii it was ONO which is great, too, but Wild Alaskan Salmon is divine and I’m cool w/ those Omegas 😉 Ceviche — Scallop, Flounder, etc. I looove Salmon Sashimi, too. LOVE. Dude I am a seafood LOVAH… Don’t mess 😉

  • VeggieGirl November 3, 2008, 7:03 pm

I’m all over that asparagus and pear!! 😉

  • Erica November 3, 2008, 7:04 pm

oh my gosh- that is horrible! What is he supposed to do tomorrow? Hey- I am going to email you those hair ideas!!

  • Meghann November 3, 2008, 7:04 pm

    I love Ahi Tuna!

I will blow up a picture of us and autograph it! I can hang one in my living room too! We should have a food photo shoot.

I think no matter what the prize ends up being for the BSI I should send the autographed photo as a joke! 🙂

And I was so heartbroken to hear of Obama’s Grandmother’s Passing… My heart goes out to him. That speech he made totally touched my heart. *Sigh, I love him.

    GO OBAMA!!!!!!!

  • Tina November 3, 2008, 7:06 pm

Scallops are my favorite meat too! 🙂

    OBAMA!!! Big day tomorrow!

  • Laura November 3, 2008, 7:17 pm

I love shrimp. It’s so versatile. 🙂 I’m also not afraid to make it at home.

I have CNN playing all day on my computer at work. I heard about Obama’s grandmother earlier this afternoon. It really is so sad. She had to have been so unbelievably proud of him.

  • Meghann November 3, 2008, 7:17 pm

So its agreed, autographed photo it is!

I am sooooo EXCITED about sampling weedding cake! Yay!!

I am crossing my fingers that since all the polls are going to be open that the lines will be a tad bit shorter then they have been fo early voting. Either way the news told me as long as I am in line before 7pm then legally they have to let me vote, so damn it I will be there as long as it takes! 🙂

  • Halie November 3, 2008, 7:22 pm

It’s so awesome when you know exactly what you want to eat, especially for dinner. More often then not I have NO idea what I feel like eating! So good for you and your scallops!

  • Krista November 3, 2008, 7:23 pm

I love shrimp, mahi mahi, salmon and scallops! YUM YUM! Tilapia and calamari are good, too!

  • ashley (sweet and natural November 3, 2008, 7:45 pm

I’m gonna have to go with the classic salmon – especially when it’s nice and crispy on the outside. Though there’s nothing like a great crab cake too!

  • Meg November 3, 2008, 7:51 pm

I love shrimp and scallops. I like to marinate them in sweet thai chili sauce!

  • Betsy November 3, 2008, 7:55 pm

it totally broke my heart when i heard that Obama’s grandmother died.

i hope tomorrow is a much better for him!

  • Mo November 3, 2008, 7:59 pm

So sad, and heart wrenching that his grandmother passed on the eve of what could be the greatest day in his political career, and in the history of our country.

My favorite “meat” is a three way tie between shrimp, scallops, and crab! 😉

  • just me November 3, 2008, 8:02 pm

i heard about obama’s grandma when I was at work…

but, i don’t eat seafood…but i used to love shrimp!

  • Neesha and Dustin November 3, 2008, 8:34 pm

Oh, Caitlin. A girl after my own heart, as well…I adore scallops. I adore seafood. All of it! Every ounce. YUM! It’s my fave. Especially tuna. My fi is allergic to shrimp so we don’t have that in the house too often.

Perhaps I’ll have to cook up some yummy Election Night Scallops tomorrow!

  • Anonymous November 3, 2008, 8:43 pm

Shrimp i love shrimp we have like 10 pounds in the freezer and my mom makes the best recipes like shimp lasagna or shrimp chiles rellenos!

    anna 🙂

  • Marissa November 3, 2008, 9:28 pm

    I heard the news too..soo sad 🙁

I don’t eat fish so I’d say my favorite fish is the ones alive in the sea – LOL 🙂

  • jenngirl November 3, 2008, 9:29 pm

Suprisingly I did not even eat seafood until last year, I guess my tastes changed? But now, I pretty much LOVE it all…tilapia, salmon, SHRIMP, even tuna on occasion if it’s seared to perfection. I also could definitely go for that scallop dinner of yours 🙂

  • jess November 3, 2008, 9:47 pm

I LOVE scallops also. A trick I learned (if you like the lovely browning that you always see on cooking shows)- Don’t Touch Them! Let them sit in the sautee pan and carmelize that nice crusty flavor for a couple minutes and when you flip them, hands off again! It’s Really hard for me because I love fiddling when I cook (open the oven door, flip omelets, although not well, etc.) but totally worth it.

I’m also a big fan of orange roughy- but you’re right, tilapia is infinitely more affordable. Shrimp are great too… and salmon…. maybe I’m just a seafood fan? haha. Have a great night!

  • Katie November 3, 2008, 10:24 pm

That is so sad for Obama…. And the night before the election. You’re totally right about living each day as if it’s your last. I had a pretty bum day but then realized that stressing about it wasn’t going to make it get any better and would probably just make me more unhappy. Anyway…

My mom makes a DELICIOUS pasta with scallops (and lemon, pepper and parsley, you’re right!) and breadcrumbs. I’m going to request that when I go home in a few weeks!

  • Caitlin (see bride run) November 4, 2008, 4:54 am

oooooo i love all your seafood favorites, too! i dont think there’s any seafood i dont like, except perhaps lobster, which i’ll eat, i just don’t think to think about how it got cooked!

jess – good advice! i stir my scallops a lot 🙂 i cant help but fiddle, either!!

  • seeleelive (for the love of peanut butter) November 4, 2008, 5:16 am

  • wholefoodswholeme November 4, 2008, 8:19 am

  • Andrea (Off Her Cork) November 4, 2008, 8:55 am

Seriously I love most seafood except for the odd stuff (odd to me) like squid and octopus. Love scallops, shrimp, crab, and most fish! I usually keep our freezer stocked. 🙂

  • greendogwine November 4, 2008, 9:54 am

What type of scallops do you use? Frozen or fresh? I have trouble buying fresh – I think it’s expensive, AND it intimadtes me – I think frozen is safer, but I know you give up some taste.

    Yours look delicious!

  • Caitlin (see bride run) November 4, 2008, 10:04 am

greendogwine – the reason mondays are fish day at our house is we go to the grocery store on mondays after the gym and buy fresh. 🙂

  • Catherine November 4, 2008, 12:53 pm

Favorite type of seafood?? Hmm… tuna steaks, salmon, poke, mahi mahi, sea urchin, mussels, toro (um I’m sort of obsessed with sushi/seafood, can you tell?)

  • Elina November 4, 2008, 2:46 pm

I loooove scallops. Yous look delicious 🙂

    Good luck Future Husband!
