I made it to yoga class this morning!  And once again, I found myself thinking, “Why don’t I do this more often?” It feels so good. I’m still taking regular vinyasa flow classes; I just modify the poses as necessary (no inversions and no laying flat on my back).  22 weeks pregnant, and I can still do most moves.  I really surprised myself when I managed to get into Bird of Paradise – but only on my right side!  Left leg was too hard for some reason.

Obviously – an OLD pic!  Now, I’ve got to scoot my belly out of the way first.  Hah.

Here’s something that I bet will stick with you forever – you know the “regular” way to roll your yoga mat?  Well, it puts all the icky other-people sweat and dirt and God-knows-what-else all over the side of the mat that you put your face.  So here’s a better {cleaner} way to roll your mat – first fold it in half.  This keeps the outside on the outside and the inside on the inside!

Now you know!

My weekend has been filled with lots of small projects and lots of relaxing – a great balance.  I woke up before everyone else and got to spend some quiet time reading, sipping coffee, and listening to rain – BLISS.

We also finally got around to cutting Henry’s hair… I’ve been putting it off since the long curls are so cute.  The Husband did a really good job, though, and the short ‘do looks great.

I’m way too chicken to get near my toddler with a pair of sharp scissors!  I’ll leave it to the semi-pros.

And we did some fingerpainting. Which turned into bellypainting.

Off to do some gardening!  Gotta seize the Sunday magic.

Brilliant yoga mat trick! I always had to clean my mat before use for all the dirt and hair that stuck to it from being rolled up. Eww.

I don’t own a yoga mat but if I ever get one I will make sure I remember this! Much more hygienic 🙂

Ha! My OCD self already does this with my yoga mat! Henry is so, so cute!

I don’t think I can do bird on a good day not preggers. Way to go!
That is a great tip! I always think about how nasty my mat is : ) Does it get a permanent fold in the middle?

Mine hasn’t and I store it that way too!!!

I’ve been doing that yoga mat thing for awhile now! I was so grossed out thinking about all those germs. I have an expensive yoga mat from Lululemon-the nonslip one-and it creases when I fold it so I stopped folding it to avoid ruining it. Now I just clean with straight vinegar when I get it home from a class.

    1) I never thought of that with the yoga mat; good to know!
    2) I looove being up before everyone else to drink coffee and read and listen to the rain.
    3) I was a little frightened to scroll from the scissors pic to one with Henry’s red hands; I’m so very glad it’s paint!

I can’t believe I’ve been practicing yoga everyday and didn’t think about a more sanitary way to roll my mat!! Thanks for sharing this!

Holy cow! You are flexible!! I could never dream of doing that. Good for you!!

    Caitlin,

I’m also a fold-and-roller, but I’ve been doing it because it makes it roll out flatter, preventing the end from rolling back on itself. I like the idea that it’s cleaner too, you got me thinking!

My yoga mat is from the a limited addition pro from Manduka. It is not designed to be folded so I just roll it up and clean it when I get home. Your method will help a lot of your followers as long as they don’t store their mats folded and rolled. They should clean the mat in the studio before they leave or when they get home. Also storing your mat with the practice side on the outside keeps the ends from curling up like a flying carpet.
