Boiled egg and a half (shared with Henry) on toast with lots and lots of fruit.

After breakfast, Henry and I hung out with Julie! It was loads of fun. Not sure why Henry looks so scared / quiet in this photo. He was probably afraid Maggie was about to shove her tongue down his ear…

… Which is a totally legit concern because she does it to me about ten times a day.

Leftover tofu on salad (that I grew in my own backyard!!!! WOOT WOOT) with hummus and chips.

We ate outside, which was lovely, but I think I have to put a stop to that for now… Meals are way too distracting outside and SOMEONE just ends up flinging food to the ground (hint: it’s not me). I love that kid to pieces, but dear God – food being thrown on the floor is my “mom THING.” You know – that one THING that drives you to pieces crazy (I also hate stiff legged refusals to sit down in the car seat).

Here’s James doing an impression of what my face looks like when Henry throws delicious and tasty food on the ground:

Yes, that is as good as you would expect it to be…

A new recipe – Chia Seed Pudding Muffins. I hope to finalize this recipe today. It needs a tweaking or two before sharing.

If you’re a parent, what is that one silly THING that drives you disproportionally batty? And – let’s even it out by saying something small that makes you disproportionally happy. I already shared my THING, but something small that makes me happy is when Henry asks me to “cheers” his cup of water when we’re eating together. It’s so cute!

Ahh the straight leg refusal to go in the carseat (while screaming) – such fun 🙂 I’m always afraid people think I’m kidnapping my daughter when she does that at places like the grocery store!

  • Becky@TheSavedRunner May 21, 2014, 9:39 am

I have never tried eating tofu by itself. How do you suggest I cook it?

  • Hilary May 21, 2014, 9:40 am

My 2.5 year old is a ‘hoarder’ and it sends me to crazy town. She collects random crap from EVERYWHERE and stuffs it into bags and her little grocery cart until it’s ready to topple over. Right now there are fairies, socks, game pieces, puzzle pieces, shoes, dress up clothes, stuffed animals, food wrappers, and sippy cups in her grocery cart. UGH.
On the other hand, she recently potty trained herself (I am sooooooooooo grateful) and every time she pees on the potty, she said exlaims “I DID IT!” with glee.

Cabot cheese is the only brand allowed in my house! I live in Vermont and a couple times a year I visit the Cabot annex near where I live and go around the cheese table a few times. They must have twenty plus different varieties to taste. To make the day even better, a visit to the building next door housing Champlain Chocolates is a must! Throw in a wine tasting and it’s the perfect day!

YES, the food (or anything) throwing is my thing too. Anytime my daughter does that I immediately snap into mean mom mode, and bark PICK IT UP at her, which of course doesn’t work at all because she’s not even 2. So I immediately change tactic and tell her, in a nicer way, to be a helper and make her pick it up. Sometimes it takes FOREVER, but I am a total stickler on it. You make a mess, you clean it!

I hate having to tell me kids to sit on their buns while eating! But I *love* hearing them play together & make each other laugh

My daughter is a couple weeks younger than Henry. My ‘mom thing’ is when she chews food and then spits it out. On the floor, in her lap, on her shirt.
Why put it in your mouth if you aren’t going to EAT it?!?!

  • Sara @ LovingOnTheRun May 21, 2014, 10:03 am

I just told myself last night that I need to buy more sweet potatoes! YUM!

  • Michelle May 21, 2014, 10:09 am

Omygosh those muffins look amazing! I’d love to try them 😉
I just love your blog! <3

I hate the snotty and sassy sorry (the one you know they don’t mean). And I love the “I love you mommy”, and the “pleeeese” with puppy dog eyes, it gets me every time.

  • Rachel May 21, 2014, 10:49 am

Mealtimes with my 20 month old in general drive me crazy. Refusing to eat, throwing food on the floor, feeding food to the dog, pouring milk out, chewing up food and then spitting it out, etc.
A small thing that makes me happy is when he sees me at the door to pick him up from school and runs as fast as he can with a big smile and his arms open. Best feeling ever.

My son is 3 and it drives me crazy when I’m in a different room or area of the house and I yell his name and he doesn’t respond. I go to find him and he’s just looking at me like “what?” He hears me but he thinks its funny to just sit quietly. The thing that makes me so happy is when he says “it’s a bootiful (beautiful) day today mommy”….so stinkin cute.

  • Julie May 21, 2014, 10:58 am

Aww Henry’s “cheers” thing is adorable! I remember those car seat refusals well (& my daughter is 14 now)! I am still convinced there’s not a thing you can do to get a tantrum-throwing kid buckled into a car seat when they are arching their back… impossible!

  • Suzy May 21, 2014, 11:00 am

    Everything Bagel cheese?! Must find!

My mommy thing that drives me crazy, when he puts the food in his mouth and promptly spits it out. Thank goodness for those pocket bibs! (and dogs)

I’ve been teaching my little guy to “cheers” too. Love it!

  • Traci May 21, 2014, 11:03 am

Hmmm…I wish I could transfer every single one of your eats into my day today.

  • ellen May 21, 2014, 11:04 am

I absolutely hate it when they ask for something and you give it to them and they are still whiney!! I really hate whining. He also used to give me the board when I put him in the carseat, but now I distract him with a toy, book or snack so it hasnt been to bad.

  • Ellen May 21, 2014, 11:06 am

OHH i forgot the thing I love. He has started to give me hugs…he will see me and run up and wrap himself around my legs…love it…I also love cuddlying in bed before getting up for the day!

  • Nadine May 21, 2014, 1:00 pm

Something about the “hand rubbed” cheese is cracking me up. I’m not sure that’s the marketing slogan that will draw me in!! 🙂

  • Courtney May 21, 2014, 1:00 pm

Chewing with their mouth open. I know when they are little it takes time to develop manners and it takes constant teaching/coaching, but it makes me a little loco when they chew like possessed zombies 😉

    • Courtney May 21, 2014, 1:05 pm

I forgot the thing I love too…. Singing in the car together 🙂

  • Stephanie @ Whole Health Dork May 21, 2014, 1:40 pm

I’m not a mom, but I do think the floor thing is a thing I will have as well because I already go nuts when my husband drops stuff on the floor (and doesn’t notice or I end up stepping on it, usually a small piece of chip), especially after I’ve just vacuumed! Always after I just vacuumed.
I’m also pretty sure that little things like “cheers” will make me go all melty inside.
Great pic of you and Henry with Julie!

  • Sara May 21, 2014, 2:30 pm

My “thing” would have to be food throwing too! We are working on offering to Mommy when we are done or do not like something. Some days I win, some days the dogs win!

On the other side, when my sweet baby (14 mo) girl asks to be picked up, I get her out of her crib, or I pick her up from gym child care and she immediately snuggles into my shoulder. *sigh*

  • Katie sB May 21, 2014, 7:48 pm

Even with your complaint, you make being a mom look so fun. 🙂 It’s encouraging.

    • Caitlin May 21, 2014, 8:22 pm

OMG being a mom is SOOOO fun. I got to lay on the sidewalk and look at bugs all night. 🙂 It’s awesome! <--- that was not sarcastic. LOL

  • Mary May 22, 2014, 2:19 am

My two year old nephew has just started the ‘Cheers’ thing too! So cute!

  • Wendy / Cabot May 22, 2014, 8:17 am

It all sounds yummy (especially the Everything Cheddar, but we might be biased). AND so cool you’re growing your own lettuce!

MAJOR congrats from all of us on making the top 15 Best Running Blogs for Women. That’s quite a thing! http://www.polkadotted.com/15-best-running-blogs-for-women/

What makes me nuts with my kids? When they say they’ve done their homework, but they haven’t. (Obviously, my guys are older!) ~Wendy

  • Rachel May 22, 2014, 9:44 am

I have a dog so my child throwing food on the floor doesn’t drive me crazy. Although, I do put the dog outside sometimes if I want him to eat. But my son loves to feed everyone. He will feed me, his dad and obviously the dog. ha. Whining for “no reason” drives me insane. Like, I seriously cannot stand it. What I do love, besides him trying to feed me, is when I am carrying him in he gets all cuddly and tucks his arms in or when he throws is little arms around my neck and gives me a kiss. (He will not kiss on request. He is stubborn like his daddy.)
