Weekend {plus–MEOW!}

in All Posts

Did you have a good weekend?  We had an AMAZING one. Full of relaxation and fun. Although the weather turned a bit nasty on Sunday, on Saturday, we had great weather and spent most of Henry’s waking hours in the backyard.

It’s the little things in life, huh?

I owe you all a full post on this, but I’ve been juicing non-stop.  I’ll been drinking two greens juices as snacks each day, and I feel fabulous as a result!

photo 2

This is my favorite combination for one juice:

Untitled

I usually make a triple batch at once.  Sure, it’s better to make juices as you drink them (because you lose nutrients when the juice is exposed to oxygen), but I think juicing is far too time consuming and messy to do it like that.

Here’s a delicious dish from the weekend!

I loved the Cilantro Pistachio Pesto sweet potato dish so much and thought the pesto would be epic on eggs.  Guess what?!  It was.

Yum.

But… here’s the most exciting part of my weekend. We adopted a new cat!

photo 3

He doesn’t have a name yet.  He’s a young male cat.  He’s gray and white, just like Pippa.  I actually did not realize how much he looks like Pippa (rest in peace!) until we got him home and saw him roaming around in all of Pippa’s old spots.  But he’s a lot bigger, a lot skinnier, has much more white in his coat, and has a really long tail (Pippa was a bobtail).  It’s a little strange how much they look alike, but it’s also kind of nice – like she’s living on through him.

It took us a while to feel ready to get another cat.  We were both really gutted over losing Pippa.  We had her for such a short period of time, but she was such a good cat.  I still think of her all the time.  <3  But it’s been about five months, and we both kept thinking of all the lovely kitties who needed new homes…

We got him from the same rescue organization that we got Pippa from.  I called the woman who runs the organization on Saturday, and she said she had a cat that would be a perfect fit for us (our requirements were good with kids and dogs, not shy, and adult).  We headed over on Sunday, and the cat immediately gravitated towards us.  He’s super, super friendly!  You know how you just get a ‘vibe’ when you hold a certain animal?  Yup – we knew right away that he’d be ours.

He’s adjusting quite well.  He’s already much more comfortable than Pippa was at this stage, and he spent all of last night curled up in my lap – he really is SO friendly.  Shy and scared is not in his vocabulary.  All we know from his history is that he was found in a Walmart parking lot, and spent a few weeks at one women’s house before being transferred to the rescue group.  He was either someone’s pet who escaped/got lost or he was dumped.

He really likes Henry and rubs up against Henry’s legs, which Henry thinks is super funny.  And he’s doing fine with the dogs.  Of course, they need to sort out who will be in charge, so there’s been some hissing and swiping, but that should even out quickly.

Just for comparison’s sake, here’s Henry’s reaction to meeting Pippa back in October 2012!  Man, how things change.

Our new cat is still nameless, as mentioned.  Does anyone have any name suggestions?  We name all of our animals after famous British people (Maggie Thatcher, James Bond, Pippa Middleton).  We’re leaning to Wayne Rooney or David Beckham, but I’m not entirely convinced yet.

    He does look like Pippa!

I’d call him ‘Wiggins’, after Sir Bradley.

    • Sally March 17, 2014, 11:58 am

Wiggins- is a GREAT idea! Or after a British golfer? Lee Westwood (west or westy) or Nick Faldo (FALDO!!!). Fun fun!

  • Reenie March 17, 2014, 10:36 am

OMG…. I can’t believe how much he looks like Pippa!!

    “. . . he was found in a Walmart parking lot. . . ” ~ Wally for his name!! 😉

“Of course, they need to sort out who will be in charge,. . .” No doubt about it ~ ~ the CAT will def be in charge. HA!!

So happy for you guys ~ congrats. 🙂

  • Jackie March 17, 2014, 10:38 am

What about George or willy (William!)

  • Lauren March 17, 2014, 10:44 am

    What about Boris Johnson?

  • Aishah @ Coffee, Love, Health March 17, 2014, 10:50 am

Ugh little baby Henry is SO cute. I can’t believe how much he has grown!! I love how friendly he is with the animals and I am so happy he has them <3 Has the cat reminded him of Pippa at all? Did he mention her or get confused at all? I love the name David Bekham 🙂

PS- are you going to FitBloggin' this year?

    • Caitlin March 17, 2014, 10:53 am

      I don’t think he remembers Pippa 🙁

      Nope! Are you?

      • Aishah @ Coffee, Love, Health March 17, 2014, 11:02 am

Aww, well I’m happy to know he isn’t sad at least <3 He's such a sweet, sweet boy.

I really want to go but I'm on the fence about it. I don't know many of the bloggers attending but if you were going I would be sold! lol! I really want to attend an event like that to learn more about blogging. Please let me know if you have any suggestions 🙂

  • Lyndsey March 17, 2014, 10:58 am

First of all, so obsessed with that Henry video! I played it for my husband and told him we would use the “bad choice” when we finally begin parenting. Love that, also Henry is so cute and so sad for James!

Also, I think Beckham is a cool name for the cat, and you could call him Beck for short.

    Happy Monday 🙂

  • Courtney March 17, 2014, 11:04 am

I vote Beckham for the name! Swoon…

  • Morgan March 17, 2014, 11:09 am

He is a cutie! I love Prince George for a name.

Please don’t feed him dog food this time. I like Wellness and Tiki Cat… Good luck!

  • Emily @ The Swallow Flies March 17, 2014, 11:15 am

He is so cute! Congratulations! My boy kitty’s name is Charlie, so I’m a bit partial to that — and you could connect it to British royalty. Harry (as in Potter or Prince) would be cute! Or — nerdy English teacher here — something regarding Shakespeare?

  • Joy March 17, 2014, 11:20 am

Yay! Your new kitty is a handsome boy. As far as a good name for him goes, you’ll figure it out after you get to know him a bit better. Still sorry for your loss of Pippa, but very happy that you have a new kitty to love.

  • Kate March 17, 2014, 11:27 am

Are you guys Harry Potter fans? I was thinking Neville Longbotton, Hagrid, or Dobby (the house elf). Ok, so they are not real people, but they are British.

  • Maria March 17, 2014, 11:31 am

How about Isaac ( Isaac Newton ) or William ( William Shakespeare ) or Pauly ( Paul McCartney ). I love the English name idea!!!

Henry is just too cute for words. I love to see the videos of him!!

  • Laura March 17, 2014, 11:33 am

I like George (like the King) or Winston (Churchill) 🙂

  • Tracy March 17, 2014, 11:51 am

He’s adorable! He looks like a Winston–Winston Churchill!

  • Ali March 17, 2014, 11:58 am

I have been loving juicing lately! My mom went on a 30 day juice cleanse, so I’ve tried lots and lots of kinds.

  • Brittany March 17, 2014, 12:05 pm

What about Prince some thing will/charles/ginger one.. he looks like a “prince” for short 🙂

  • Lindsay March 17, 2014, 12:07 pm

Jude Law? Daniel Day-Lewis (Danny for short– I like that!) 🙂 Super cute new kitty– love that you are able to give a rescue a new home!

  • Erika March 17, 2014, 12:14 pm

How about Mr. Darcy? Or Sir Laurence Olivier (you could call him Larry)

  • Patty March 17, 2014, 12:15 pm

Hey, regarding the juice recipe..what is 1/2 clam shell??
How about Winston for your new kitty?

  • Genary March 17, 2014, 12:16 pm

    King George. 😉

  • Rebecca March 17, 2014, 12:23 pm

I just tried clicking on the Comments button and it took me to the Tough Mudder website. Weird.
    Back in comments now, though!

Cute cat! If you go with David Beckham you could just call him Beckham or Beck or even Ham. LOL. Or is there a Walter or something you could name him after and call him Wally for Wal-Mart? Or Martin/Marty for Martin Freeman! That might be fun.

The people I house/pet sat for this weekend are getting a new dog in a week or two, which is exciting! They lost their cat a couple months ago, and I guess they’ve decided it’s time for a new dog.

  • Jenn March 17, 2014, 12:27 pm

I love the name Ringo for the new cat:)

    • Heather March 17, 2014, 1:59 pm

      Oooh, another vote for Ringo!

  • Becky March 17, 2014, 12:28 pm

The kitty is adorable! My name vote is Hugh (aka Hughie/Hewie) for Hugh Grant and Hugh Laurie!

  • Jenn March 17, 2014, 12:46 pm

Sir Paul McCartney. Theodore “Laurie” Laurence (not famous, but this was Christian bale in Little Women), or Benedict Cumberbatch (Actor just in 12 years a slave)

  • Kelly March 17, 2014, 1:02 pm

    Winston Churchill.

That video of Henry laying down the law is priceless. I showed it to my husband (via instagram) and he thought it was awesome! 🙂

  • Margaret March 17, 2014, 1:20 pm

Frost as in David Frost or Alec Guinness or Oscar Wilde (assuming Irish is British enough) or Winston Churchill since you already have Maggie Thatcher. My pets’ names are always from Shakespeare or Star Wars and that pretty much sums up my personality in a nutshell. Currently I have three cats: Obi-Won Knobi, Tybalt, and Greymalken.

  • katie d March 17, 2014, 1:21 pm

He looks like an Eddie to me! (prince edward??)

  • Rebecca March 17, 2014, 1:21 pm

    I like George or Ringo!

  • Lori March 17, 2014, 1:24 pm

I think Benedict Cumberbatch is very a very suiting name for a cat. 🙂

  • becky March 17, 2014, 1:38 pm

We have a dog named Rooney. I told my husband he could pick the name for the dog, because otherwise I was worried he would name the baby Wayne!

  • Kate March 17, 2014, 1:48 pm

David Beckham — call him Becks…

    OR

Steven Gerrard — you could do Steven or Gerrard…

  • Joy March 17, 2014, 1:48 pm

Congratulations on the new cat! I don’t have any name suggestions, but just wanted to say how lovely it is that he is already warming up to the family so well. He’s adorable!

  • sonia the mexigarian March 17, 2014, 1:51 pm

The photo reminds me of my little Lobot who disappeared over a month ago. Same pink nose, same white cheeks and chin and even same look. hahaha. Miss my little boy.

Congrats on giving a new cat a good home. He looks mighty comfortable there already 🙂 And a very handsome cat. Since I don’t know many British names….. I’ll suggest Sirius or Neville (Harry Potter) or Hugh. (Hugh Laurie)

  • Alexandra March 17, 2014, 2:00 pm

Congrats on the adorable new family member! Maybe Fergie for Sir Alex Ferguson…

  • Stephanie @ Whole Health Dork March 17, 2014, 2:02 pm

Congrats on the adoption! He is adorable. Can’t wait to hear about your adventures in juicing! Keep wondering if we should invest in a juicer.

  • Nancy March 17, 2014, 2:05 pm

You should name the new cat, Boris! It’s my name-suggestion for every pet. We had a (cranky) hedgehog that I named Boris a few years ago.

  • Carmen March 17, 2014, 2:16 pm

Caitlin, you’re a wonderful mom and I’m always so happy to see pictures and videos of Henry. My whole family loves him. I just want to point out, as a much older mom of grown kids that it’s really important to teach Henry never to slide head first, whether on playground slides or at pools, etc.

    • Caitlin March 17, 2014, 2:18 pm

Oh, that’s a good point. I taught him not to climb up slides, but head first can be dangerous too!!! Thanks for the reminder 🙂

  • Dana March 17, 2014, 2:20 pm

    I vote Ringo!

  • Karen March 17, 2014, 2:36 pm

Winston, after Winston Churchill. Or Church for short.

  • Janet UK March 17, 2014, 3:53 pm

Sir Alex Ferguson, Fergie for short- since hubby is a Man U fan, and it might be fun to have a cat with a title 🙂

Although I did giggle at Boris Johnson as well

  • jenny March 17, 2014, 4:11 pm

    Winston….after Mr Churchill.

  • Anne March 17, 2014, 4:31 pm

Maybe Winston Churchill or Prince George?

  • Nicole March 17, 2014, 4:43 pm

    (David) Bowie!

  • Hannah March 17, 2014, 4:52 pm

I’m so happy that you got a new kitty! I vote for Winston or Becks.

  • Chuck March 17, 2014, 4:53 pm

Please don’t call him Wayne. It sounds like he should be living on a council estate in Wigan (ask hubby about that). No cat deserves that. 🙂

  • Kim March 17, 2014, 5:11 pm

    Hugh Grant? =D

Winston Churchill – He looks like a Winston

  • Tabitha March 17, 2014, 5:17 pm

What about Jude after Jude Law. Or Charles after Charles Dickens. Or Charlie after Charlie Chaplin.

  • Katie March 17, 2014, 5:20 pm

I really like your whole idea of “bad choice” when did you start this & how did you explain the whole meaning of it? My little guy is almost one & I think this would be a great way to express when he does things that aren’t acceptable!

    • Caitlin March 17, 2014, 8:22 pm

I don’t think we ever explained it, really. We just try to emphasize good choice v. bad choice instead of saying, “That’s bad!” or “Bad boy!” (not that I would say bad boy ever). I think we started doing it a couple of months ago.

  • 16blessingsmom March 17, 2014, 5:31 pm

Love the new kitty….and am jealous of the wonderful green grass in the back yard! It was one degree here in central New York state this fine morn, and our yard is covered in snow. I love Aldi too, went there today. I never noticed that there is no music playing there until you mentioned it, no wonder I like shopping there so much. I was skeptical for the longest time about the quality of their groceries, but now I am converted:) I shop other stores too, but I love their chocolate, produce, and frozen fine green beans.

    Della

  • Ashley March 17, 2014, 5:51 pm

Awww, I am happy for you guys. I thought about Pippa this weekend because we woke up on Saturday to find that our own young, healthy cat had died suddenly in the night. We were shocked and I immediately remembered about Pippa, and figured the same had happened to our kitty. I hope this new one fits into your family well!

    • Caitlin March 17, 2014, 8:21 pm

Oh my goodness, Ashley. I am so sorry. It’s actually pretty common (according to my vet). That doesn’t make it any easier…. Internet hugs.

  • Pam March 17, 2014, 5:52 pm

Fun! I would suggest Winston after Winston Churchill. My friend has a pug by that name.

  • Julie March 17, 2014, 7:25 pm

    Sir Paul

  • Elisabeth March 17, 2014, 7:38 pm

I vote for David Beckham! (or Paul McCartney would be good 😉 )

  • Jill March 17, 2014, 8:31 pm

    Orlando (Bloom)
    Rupert (Everett)
    Jude (Law)
    Simon (Cowell)

  • Michelle @ A Healthy Mrs March 17, 2014, 10:33 pm

Congrats on your new furry addition! I like Winston as a name 🙂

  • Luv What You Do March 17, 2014, 10:37 pm

Congrats on your new baby kitten! How exciting!
That green juice looks great! I need to make some of that!

  • Erin March 17, 2014, 11:16 pm

I’d name him Olly Murs, Ricky Wilson, or Robbie Savage. If you do name him David Beckham, obviously, you call him Becks. 🙂

  • Stacy March 18, 2014, 12:13 am

    I vote for Winston too!

  • Kerry March 18, 2014, 1:47 am

I vote for calling him Beckham 🙂

  • Luna March 18, 2014, 5:21 am

yay for a new kitty!!!!! … what about Sherlock? 😀 I am not a fan of soccer players … but, you will get to know the kitty and choose the right name for him I am sure!

  • Carin March 18, 2014, 5:27 am

Benedict Cumberbatch (or Sherlock Holmes, if you want to go for a fictional one, likes James Bond). Imagine how much fun it’ll be to get Henry saying that!
NOT A FOOTBALLER – especially Wayne Rooney! Hardly an inspiring role model…

  • Laura March 18, 2014, 6:12 am

    Ideas!

    Kingsley (After Ben Kingsley)
Edward (After ANY of the Edwards!) Eddy for short…because that’s adorable.
    Gordan (Gordan Banks)

I know they are super random but I like naming animals! My pet’s names are Emmit, Gerald, Ciara, and Jasmine.

  • Elle March 18, 2014, 7:00 am

Hey I know it’s a bit “heavy” as a name but how about “Sherlock” or “Watson”??? (this may have something to do with my recent obsession with Benedict Cumberbatch and the BBC series…)

  • Alex March 18, 2014, 8:43 am

Love the new kitty! Our cat’s name is Ringo, because we love the Beatles.

  • Sara March 18, 2014, 8:46 am

Our dogs are in charge at our house! 🙂 We love our male cat! He’s the friendliest of our cats. Our cat is named George after George Costanza (he’s George Catstanza) but you could name him George after the Prince!

  • Whitney March 18, 2014, 8:51 am

My husband is a HUGGGEEE Manchester United fan so of course he named our cat Rooney! 🙂

  • Lan March 18, 2014, 9:05 am

Gotta echo some of the choices already given. I like Winston, Beckham, Benedict, Watson, Darcy. Can’t wait to see what you decide on.

  • Brooke @ sweats & sweets March 18, 2014, 9:46 am

Harry Styles. Just saying. Harry and Henry 🙂

  • Verna March 18, 2014, 10:29 am

Winston? My girlfriend had a cat named Winston. Great name!

  • Kim March 18, 2014, 11:38 am

    Winston

  • Kelly March 18, 2014, 12:17 pm

Oh I am LOVING these Henry videos!!! What a doll!! congrats on the new kitty addition, he’s beautiful!!!

  • karen b. March 18, 2014, 12:43 pm

    how about Simon?

    • Elle March 19, 2014, 7:46 am

Hahahaha That would actually be the best!!

  • Kristy March 18, 2014, 2:26 pm

    Mick.

  • Courtney March 18, 2014, 5:27 pm

My vote is Doctor. As in Doctor Who 😉

  • Jen March 18, 2014, 8:57 pm

Congrats on the new addition – I’m very happy for you and for him! I’d call him Charlie – just because he’s so much cuter than the second-in-line.

  • Hilary March 18, 2014, 10:00 pm

I think you two are amazing for considering adopting another kitty so soon after losing Pippa (RIP!) That first video of Henry literally made me laugh out loud. Mick Jagger was definitely the first Brit name that popped in my head. 🙂

  • Emma March 19, 2014, 3:28 am

George of course! After the little prince.

  • Jill March 19, 2014, 11:13 am

    Boris Johnson (Mayor of London).

  • Sara March 19, 2014, 8:39 pm

    Roooooooooney!

I think its really cool that you were able to get another cat that needs a good home and also that it does look like Pippa!
