What’s In Your Bag?

in All Posts

Okay.  First things first.  Let’s talk about Ironman March.

ironman march

During Ironman March, you swim, bike, and run the total Ironman race distance, but you do it over four weeks.  A typical week involves swimming about 875 meters, biking roughly 25 miles, and running 6-ish miles.  It’s challenging but do-able and is a great way to prepare for REAL spring and summer triathlons.  It was fun to see people finish ahead of the 31 days… I remember a few of you were done in a week!

Anyone up for it?

So.  Since we are on Day 2.5 of being snowed in, our fridge is looking bare and boring.  Instead of sharing a recipe, I thought I’d share what’s in my purse.  Gina did this last week and it was so much fun to read.

Here’s what inside my Skip Hop diaper bag (which is pretty but functional – you can even throw it in the washing machine!):

A plastic lion.

My new paper planner (so far – life changing; I bought it because of this post)

My point and shoot camera

My iPhone

My wallet

Three sets of gloves (so this is why my bag is so bulky…)

A reusable, fold up grocery bag

Operation Beautiful Post-It Notes

Changing pad, diapers, wipes

Sweet Debbie’s Organic Treats (a vegan/allergy free cookbook I’m reviewing)

The Frontgate catalogue (everything in Frontage is so pretty!)

And just for fun, I thought I’d do a photo of what was in Henry’s elephant backpack on our recent trip to Florida.  He’s too young to really wear it, but he really loves watching me carry it!

Bib

Sun hat

Beach ball (Deflated beach balls are my #1 diaper bag tip – then you have an awesome toy anywhere)

Moo Baa La La La and The Going to Bed Book

Sticker Books

A tiger car from his Nana

Regarding those stickers…  Before we got on the airplane, I stopped at CVS and bought him a sticker dolly book. We spent forever dressing them – best plane activity ever!

He thought the lipsticks were baby bottles!  How great is that?

What’s one super handy item that you always keep in your bag?

I always keep chap stick and hand lotion I just can’t go anywhere without it especially during these crazy winter months!

We have the same Erin Condren planner! Totally changed my life too and I bought it because of the same SHU box post!

I think I’m going to try to do the Ironman March. I’m aiming to do my first tri this June-so maybe this would help get me out of the winter slump I’ve been in!

I LOVE Henry’s elephant bag! Do they come in bigger sizes? :] I also love that you buy things for him like dollhouses and that sticker book. Lots of fun for everyone, obviously.

I have both of those Boynton books memorized. “The sun has set not long ago…”

I recently found your website and read some of your race recaps, and it was funny when I saw that many of your race photos are with Meghann, whose blog I also read!

I’d like to do Ironman March– just not the swimming bc I don’t have access to a pool. Plus I don’t know how to do it properly.

One of my bag essentials is body spray for when I have to be somewhere right after working out, or in case I forgot to put on deodorant!

I always have a bobby pin and chapstick in my purse. Between both of those I can solve almost any beauty blunder.

yay for the planner! so glad you like it – definitely post on how it’s working for you, as i’m always curious how others use theirs! i continue to love mine (on #2 and am guessing i will use the same for next year!) 🙂

I always keep one of those Clinique colour sticks in my bag at all times, in a pinch it works on your eyes, lips, and face, and can put you together on a second! Love that stuff!

Must have lip gloss! lol I hope to run another half one day <3 I have no idea how I did my first, but I'm back on my fitness and weight-loss journey so that's a nice long-term goal to have for now 🙂

When I first read this I thought you had signed up for an Ironman in March and I couldn’t figure out how you had been training! haha. I’ll join the challenge!

I don’t comment much, but love the blog. (I have to vote thumbs down though for that thing you added to the side–it is too noisy now).

Anyway, my boys are now 13 and 10 but both LOVED those two Boynton books and we loved reading them to them. Your bag emptying brought back some great memories. (favorite page from going to bed book was brushing teeth). BTW–another fun book which I recommend was “Goodnight Gorilla”

The Going to Bed Book is the best! Reminds me of our baby days…Another one, if you don’t already have it, is Goodnight Moon! My daughter absolutely loves it even at 4! Now, my super handy thing for my bag is first-aid tidbits (e.g. bandaids, spray neosporin, children’s tylenol, tissues); it’s great for little kids. And I still carry a travel-sized thing of wipes even though we are past diapers. One package is in the car and one in my handbag. You never know when there might be a spill, and I’ve used (and lent out) several in the past two weeks alone=) Enjoy your weekend!

    I think I want that elephant backpack…

I pretty much always carry hand sanitizer in my purse now, though I don’t use it all that often. My wallet and a little coin purse, too. I also usually have a small notebook in my purse just in case I need paper and pen for something.

  • Elisabeth February 14, 2014, 2:22 pm

I have to keep Burt’s Bees lip balm, travel size Gold Bond hand cream, a mini nail file, a Tide stain pen and a pen!

  • Sarah @ Licorice & Olives February 15, 2014, 9:30 am

I always keep a chapstick and a pen in my handbag. You never know when you will need them.

Also, I love this ironman situation! I am definitely on board!

  • Aerevyn February 15, 2014, 10:52 am

I’m in on the ironman! I did some of it last year, and now that I am more fit – and training for my first 5K in April – I want to do this again this year.

  • Katie February 16, 2014, 6:50 pm

I am definitely up for Ironman March! Woohoo!!!
