Tuesday Happenings

Hang tight!

How is it only Tuesday? HMPH.  I’m thinking that it should be at least Thursday, right?

I had a really great morning – I tackled a 3.5 miler all by myself.  I like to run with a buddy, and running with the stroller is fine, but man… Running solo is the BEST.  So peaceful.  I felt fast, too.  I’ve decided that 10:00 AM is my perfect running time… I’m awake and energized.  Anytime before or after, I’m physically tired or lacking motivation.   Too bad that 10:00 AM is one of the hardest times for me to get out the door!

A Month-By-Month Guide to a Fitter, Faster You

I spotted this article on Runners World and thought it’d be perfect to share with everyone:  A Month-By-Month Guide to a Fitter, Faster You.

The article sets forth a 12-pronged (that’s a lot of prongs!) approach to achieving your best year of running.  Cool concept, huh?

For January, you’re supposed to Plan Your Race Year.  I’ve been trying to pin down what summer races I want to do, but I can’t make up my mind.  So for now, let’s say that my race goals are to run a half marathon in March, and do at least two sprint triathlons and one Olympic triathlon during the summer.  Once I make my final race decisions, the article suggests that I go ahead and sign up for the events so I stay committed.  Good advice!

For February, you’re supposed to Commit to Cooking.  I’ve been eating more meals in and being really thoughtful with post-workout snacks (the protein smoothie is my friend).  The author also suggests getting accustomed to doing more weekly prep work on Sunday.

See what you’re tasked with for March and beyond by reading the rest of the article here.

Thought of the Day:

This thought definitely holds true for me. There have been so many ‘missed opportunities’ that were so disappointing in the moment… but as time passed, I realized that by missing the opportunity, I ended up right where I was supposed to be.

For example, did you know that the first Operation Beautiful book was rejected by a dozen publishers before finding its publishing home?  True story!  Each rejection stung, too.  But all I needed was one yes.  “Just one yes” has since become one of my personal mottos – there are so many times in life that you get a lot of literal or metaphorical NOs… but you really just need ONE YES.  ONE YES is a mighty powerful thing. <3 <3

    • Caitlin February 18, 2014, 2:21 pm

Oh we aren’t yet, but it’s definitely in the short/long term plans!

My day started with a flat tire! Like the snow wasn’t enough! I had off yesterday and I still feel like this week is dragging.

I WISH it was Thursday! I’m going on vacation this week, and by Thursday, I’ll be road tripping to Florida! Can’t come fast enough.

    • Caitlin February 18, 2014, 3:50 pm

      Oh, where in Florida?

  • Janelle February 18, 2014, 3:06 pm

Totally feel like this week is dragging. I had a coffee vs. off-white sofa conflict this morning. Tomorrow I leave for a trip, though – so ready for a short break!!!

I like the just one yes motto. I’ve always said that to myself when I was looking for a job or trying to find an apartment. All you need is one-something to be able to take the next step.

Thanks for this, I needed to hear it! My husband has been job hunting for over a year now and it’s such a slog. Each interview that doesn’t go anywhere feels so defeating for both of us. I just need to remind myself, all we need is ONE YES!

    • Caitlin February 18, 2014, 3:50 pm

Sending positive vibes to your husband. I hope the next one is a yes!

Two weeks after a major break-up, I really needed to read that quote. Here’s to hoping I’m on my way to something better!

Love that picture of Henry hanging out!

    • Caitlin February 18, 2014, 3:49 pm

Oh, good luck, Eliza. I read a quote the other day that said something along the lines of “wake up everyday knowing something amazing can happen.” <3

  • Aishah @ Coffee, Love, Health February 18, 2014, 3:52 pm

I love this. There were so many times I wanted something SO bad and go so sad when it didn’t work out… only to look back and say “Thank God that didn’t happen and I ended up where I am now.” <3

I also like to run at 10, it gives me a chance to eat and digest my breakfast. It’s amazing how hard it can be to get just one yes sometimes, but I’ll keep trying.

That is always a good thing to be reminded of. As a musician and artist, I’m constantly dealing with rejections, but so are the rest of the musicians and artists in the world, including those who have really made it! Thanks for sharing that tidbit about your book.

I liked this post. Great message 🙂

  • Breanne February 18, 2014, 5:14 pm

Just one yes is a GREAT motto – I might steal it! 🙂

I thought for sure that today was Thursday this morning. I was really confused when a friend texted me because “shouldn’t she be at…?” Only, no, it’s Tuesday. 🙁 How it’s just Tuesday is beyond me.

  • Christina @ The Beautiful Balance February 18, 2014, 6:02 pm

Love the idea of the month-by-month guide!

  • Sarahf February 18, 2014, 6:29 pm

I’m moving next week (I keep saying the end of the month, which sounds less scary, but the end of the month is next week, eek!) so I’m trying to get packed, and not procrastinate. So, this week is going by way to fast for my liking! Having spent the best part of last year looking for a new job, I’m pretty excited that this place said “yes”!

  • Megan @ The Skinny-Life February 18, 2014, 7:52 pm

So true about the One Yes! That’s good motivation to keep in mind when taking a risk.

  • Sara @ LovingOnTheRun February 18, 2014, 8:26 pm

Crazy day full of workouts and work! I am now relaxing and hanging out with my hubs! Good job on the 3.5 mile run!! running alone can be so relaxing!

  • lisa @ early morning run February 18, 2014, 11:16 pm

Admittedly, I haven’t stopped by here in a while – I’ve been really slacking on my reading – but so glad I decided to get back into it tonight. This is a great post; love the motto “just one yes” as it’s SO true.

Congrats on getting out for a solo run. Sounds like something you really needed!

    • Caitlin February 19, 2014, 7:42 am

Hi Lisa 🙂 Hope all is well!

  • Runner Girl Eats February 19, 2014, 6:42 am

This was just the reminder that I needed today. Rejection isn’t always bad…in the end everything will work out exactly how it was supposed to. Thanks <3

  • Stephanie @ Whole Health Dork February 19, 2014, 7:24 am

Thanks for sharing the Runner’s World link! I’m still coming back from an injury, so my plan is to not have a plan when it comes to races, but a lot of the other months are great ideas!
And couldn’t agree more with the quote. Kind of the whole, “When God closes a door, he opens a window” idea. 🙂
