Breaking Eggs

Today is a very important day. You see, for the last few months, we have been tearing our way through Breaking Bad.  And tonight, we will watch the final two episodes.

I am so excited.

Is it 7:30 PM yet?!

I already know what happens at the end of the series because it was impossible to be on social media during the finale and NOT be spoiled.  Disappointing but, hey, that’s the risk you take by not watching shows in real time!

(My breakfast has nothing to do with this post but I thought I’d share what I ate – eggs, pineapple, and a stir fry of zucchini, pepper, and onion. I’ve successful switched my tastebuds over to savory breakfasts and usually have a few servings of veggies in the morning now.)

I firmly believe that Breaking Bad is the best show ever. You never know what the characters are going to do, and no one is safe from doom. Plus, I love the evolution of the main character… I love to hate Walter.  Also, I have a serious crush on Jesse Pinkman.

And has anyone else noticed how much color plays into the series?  The characters wear certain colors when certain things are happening/about to happening.  For example, there was this one scene where Marie was wearing a bright yellow shirt instead of a purple one (per the usual), and I turned to Kristien and said, “OMG, she’s not wearing purple! Something BIG is about to happen!” And it did!   (Right after typing that paragraph, I Googled to see if anyone else noticed and – sure enough – there was a thread on Reddit and an interview with the costume designer that discredits my yellow shirt theory – darn!  But others think the color theory is real regardless.)  I also have a theory about how much cleavage Skylar is showing… when she’s happy, she wears low-cut shirts, and when she’s miserable, she wears turtlenecks.

Anyway – I guess these are the things you obsessively pick up on when you watch sixty-something episodes back to back to back to back. Smile

So – Happy Saturday!  I hope you have a great day.  I’m sure we’ll have an awesome TV night, but I’m  not sure what I’ll do with my life when the show is over…

Are you a Breaking Bad fan?  Did you pick up on any interesting little nuances in the show?

I LOVE Breaking Bad too! I was so so sad when it ended.

  • Aerevyn Harteis January 4, 2014, 11:26 am

Breaking Bad is some of the best TV ever. Episode after episode it was just so fantastic.

It’s so smart, so clever, so tongue in cheek, and so unwilling to be black and white in it’s assessment of the characters. I was engaged by the ambiguity. It was TV for grownups. Jesse … love his heart. Amazing that some part of him stays tender throughout.

    • Aerevyn Harteis January 4, 2014, 12:00 pm

I loved how the clothing represented each person, and who they were in a given season.

Sometimes Skyler was sexy, sometimes a victim (did not like the writing for her that season – too much crying!). Walter was the washed up chem teacher in tiddy whities, the badass, the crime boss. My hat is off to the clothing designer. I’m not sure I’ve seen such great detail in terms of costuming.

I love Breaking Bad and I really love how they ended everything! Let me know how you like it!

  • Catherine @ foodiecology January 4, 2014, 11:35 am

Breaking Bad is the best show! I’m still sad it’s over. I love how Gilligan & the writers never held back. Even though you said you know how it ends, I think you’ll still be shaken up. It’s *that* crazy. And for the record, I have a crush on Jesse, too.
Oh, and your breakfast looks delish!

  • Christine @ BookishlyB January 4, 2014, 11:38 am

I really loved the show and used to ask the chem teachers at the high school where I teach if they knew how to cook meth. I highly recommend The Nerdist podcast episode where they interview Vince Gilligan, the creator.

  • Jelena@ThoseLittleThings January 4, 2014, 11:44 am

I love breaking bad. It is so addictive that we spent whole November going to work, sleeping and watching the show! 🙂
We had this idea that Skylar’s weight depends on her happyness

  • Lee January 4, 2014, 11:46 am

It was such a good show. I’m sad it’s over.

  • Amanda @ Diary of a Semi-Health Nut January 4, 2014, 11:50 am

I watched the show on Netflix after the fact too! I am assuming that was the last episode…it was a bit of a cliff hanger as were ALL of the episodes. Darn AMC making crazy exciting dramas that I need to keep watching (insert Walking Dead here).

I never noticed the color thing! I do think that’s a legit observation about Skyler’s wardrobe though.

And yes. Developing a crush on Jesse is inevitable. Those eyes!

    • Katherine January 5, 2014, 9:24 am

I am not sure you watched the finale. I watched it on netflix a couple months ago and had to buy the last six episodes or so on amazon. The last season wasn’t on netflix because it aired this fall. You will know when you see the finale! 🙂

  • Marcy January 4, 2014, 11:59 am

I had a seriously bad Breaking Bad addiction. I binge-watched all the seasons except the final one, which I saw unfold on TV. It was hard to wait each week after getting used to watching them whenever I wanted. I loved the finale. Have fun! Since then, I’ve gone through Game of Thrones too. It took me a while to get into it, but now I’m hooked and having to wait on that one too.

  • Lauren January 4, 2014, 12:09 pm

I haven’t watched Breaking Bad but I LOVE getting super invested in tv shows. It’s so much fun! I just started Gossip Girl and I’m hooked! 🙂

  • Tanya January 4, 2014, 12:12 pm

How are you watching the final season? I can’t find it anywhere! Did you know that mr white was also in scienfeld? Along with 5 or 6 other characters?

    • Caitlin January 4, 2014, 1:09 pm

      It’s on Amazon!

  • Tory January 4, 2014, 12:14 pm

I LOVE BREAKING BAD! That may have been a little dramatic, but I totally agree with you about love/hating Walt and having a serious crush on Jesse (he’s equally adorable in real life, so sad he’s already married 😉 ). I too was a little late joining to game, but I ended up finishing the series only about 2 weeks after the finale so I managed to avoid spoilers by limiting my social media during that time. There’s really no point to this comment, I just wanted to express my love for Breaking Bad 🙂

  • Alina January 4, 2014, 12:19 pm

Breaking Bad is next on my Netflix to-watch list! Right now, I can’t get enough of The Good Wife… have you seen it? I’m a taaaaad obsessed 😉

  • Andrea January 4, 2014, 12:29 pm

I’m watching it too! On the last episode of season three. I’ve been watching it for months…I’m slow. And I actually don’t know what’s going to happen at the end, so thanks for not posting any spoilers!!

  • Sharon@DiscoverExploreLearn January 4, 2014, 1:08 pm

I couldn’t agree more. Breaking Bad is the best show EVER!! So well written, amazing acting, and the photography is awesome.

I’ve watched the entire series twice now, and could easily watch it again. Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul are my new favorite actors. The evolution of their characters from the beginning to the end was remarkable.

There were several things throughout the series that I noticed:

    – The pants that Walter lost in the desert in the first season, reappear in the episode where he’s rolling the barrel of money in the desert.

    – The way that Walter folds the towel and kneels on it while vomiting in his bathroom, just like Gus did after drinking the poisonous alcohol in Mexico.

    – The Volvo that Walter drives towards the end of the series. Gus also drove a Volvo.

    – The way the camera focused on Walter cutting the crusts off of his sandwiches throughout the series, just like he did for “Krazy 8” in the first season.

I’m sure there are many more. I’m a little obsessed! 🙂 I’ve never enjoyed any other TV show the way that I’ve enjoyed Breaking Bad. Vince Gilligan is a genius!

Enjoy the last 2 episodes! Even if you know how it ends, you’ll love everything about it. An epic journey for sure.

  • Meghan January 4, 2014, 1:16 pm

Just watched the whole series between thanksgiving and christmas – absolutely loved it.

Have you picked up on the irony of Saul’s name yet?

Saul Goodman = It’s all good, man. 🙂

  • Michelle @ A Healthy Mrs January 4, 2014, 1:37 pm

    We’ve got 5 episodes left — I’m sure they’ll be finished this weekend! 🙂

  • Molly January 4, 2014, 2:09 pm

Where are you watching the 2nd half of the last season? I didn’t think it was available on netflix streaming yet?

  • Angela@ Fit to Inspire January 4, 2014, 2:22 pm

your breakfast looks delicious! I might need to add some stir fry veggies to mine tomorrow.

I’ve been wanting to get into breaking bad I just haven’t had the time.

  • Traci January 4, 2014, 2:35 pm

I loved Breaking Bad, and was happy with how they ended things. Some people weren’t, but I think they wrapped everything up in the best way possible!

  • Nicole January 4, 2014, 2:54 pm

My boyfriend and I love Breaking Bad and watched every season over again before the next started. So sad it’s over, but thrilled to watch AMC marathons or on Netflix. Did you know that when the L.A tour bus drives by Aaron Paul’s house he makes a point to go out and meet the fans when he’s home? How awesome is that!?

  • Jamie January 4, 2014, 2:55 pm

I tried watching Breaking Bad & couldn’t do it. I made it to episode 2 where Walter and Jesse were discussing cutting up the dead drug dealers and dissolving their bodies in acid and I turned it off immediately. I have learned over the years that I just cannot watch graphic violence. It puts me in a really anxious, negative place. Glad so many other people were able to enjoy it, though! 🙂

  • Sara @ LovingOnTheRun January 4, 2014, 3:06 pm

I have heard that breaking bad is amazing BUT I have never watched it. Maybe I will have to add it to my list of shows I need to start watching!

  • Ashley @ Saving Money in your Twenties January 4, 2014, 3:50 pm

Your breakfast looks awesome! I need to train myself to get into savory breakfasts… I know I could always use more veggies in my life!

  • Marin January 4, 2014, 4:32 pm

Interesting that you like Breaking Bad so much. I read many articles from feminist bloggers regarding the sexism and anti-feminine aspects of the show. It seems to contradict so many of your ideas that you write about here. But I’ve never seen the show (after reading the articles, I didn’t have interest in supporting it). So perhaps I am mistaken

  • Ashley January 4, 2014, 5:08 pm

So excited for you to finish the series tonight! It is hands down my favorite TV show. Perfect blend of drama, humor, and terror. AHHHHH! Enjoy!

  • Lyric January 4, 2014, 5:30 pm

Breaking Bad and Dexter are 2 of my all time favourite shows! Even thought I cannot realate to the characters what -so-ever 😕

  • Emily at Transitional Objects January 4, 2014, 5:56 pm

Breaking Bad is, quite possible, my very favorite series as well. Such brilliance, restraint (at times), and irony in its comment on white masculinity.

In any event, I envy your encounter with the conclusion; I wish I could experience it for the first time all over again!

  • Amie @ Running On Healthy January 4, 2014, 6:00 pm

    OH MY GOSH.

I just finished the final 3 episodes of the series literally half an hour ago. I don’t know how I feel about it yet. A part of me loves it and a part of me leaves me yearning to know more, about Jessie specifically, as I totally have a crush on him too.

I hope you’ll blog about your thoughts on the finale!

  • maria trains January 4, 2014, 8:20 pm

Husband and I loved Breaking Bad. We were lucky enough to catch up to the final season and watched it in real time–which was nail-biting waiting each week! I noticed the colors, too! And it kills me that we never figure out why all the freaking PURPLE!

  • Amy January 4, 2014, 9:54 pm

Breaking Bad is awesome. Some other series that my hubs and I have watched/are watching binge-style: The Wire, Homeland, The Americans, Ray Donovan- all great. The Wire is an absolute must-see. I also just finished The Big C and I really loved it. Happy watching!

  • Rebecca January 4, 2014, 10:08 pm

Nope, never seen it. I watched a Mythbusters ep on some of the stuff they claim is possible in the show, though. (Stuff blowing up, etc.) Kind of made me not want to watch it even more than I already didn’t want to watch it. Watching people make meth and blow crap up doesn’t appeal to me. I’ll stick to crime-solving crime dramas and talk shows. And Disney. I saw Frozen tonight and am obsessed…

  • Rachel January 4, 2014, 11:05 pm

I love Breaking Bad. We just finished the final three episodes last night. I somehow managed to avoid all spoilers and was totally shocked by the ending. Seriously the best tv show of all time. We are in need of a new show but I’m not sure anything can compare. The clothing color thing is something I noticed too. Marie = purple, Skylar = green, Walt = blue.

I’m obsessed with Jesse. I’ve never had such a crush on a tv star since Zack from Saved by the Bell. Jesse is hot and those eyes! I die.

  • Heather @ Health, Happiness, and Hope January 5, 2014, 4:36 am

I’m always so sad/excited when I get to the end of a Netflix series I love! Desperate Housewives, Gossip Girl, Ugly Betty… I wish they all just kept going! I watched the first episode of Breaking Bad a while back but never really got into it. I need to check it out again!

  • Brenda @ Bren There January 5, 2014, 8:37 am

Breaking Bad is ridiculous! Is it lame to say I liked it before it was cool? It grew SO fast. I can’t wait to see the reaction on here about the final episodes.. even if you know what’s happening, it’ll still blow your mind!

  • Laura @ This is Thirty January 5, 2014, 10:07 am

I haven’t watched Breaking Bad at all (shocking, I know), but I’ve heard so much about it,I’m going to start as soon as I finish Fringe! Love pineapple for always, but especially for breakfast! Yum!

  • Dr. Enriquez January 5, 2014, 11:03 am

Breaking Bad is such a great show and my wife and I are big fans. But your post is making me hungry!!!! Those veggies look so tasty with the eggs.

  • Sharon January 5, 2014, 11:38 am

We just finished up all the seasons of Breaking Bad not too long ago. Love the show, so sad its over and yes, how can one NOT have a crush on Jesse! Dexter gets my vote for best show EVER. If you haven’t watched it, it should definitely be next on your list.

  • jane January 5, 2014, 1:26 pm

I loved BB! Somewhere around the middle I almost felt like it was similar to a bad car crash, I wanted to look away, but I just couldn’t. As for the finale, they did such a great job wrapping it all up and concluding everything. I mixed in some Burn Notice while I was watching BB because BN was mostly light hearted and fun, I’m sad that one’s over too. But this year, I’m totally into The Black List and Person of Interest. How did we ever live before DVR’s?

  • Aerevyn January 5, 2014, 1:49 pm

OMG! I am absolutely gearing up to watch the new season of Downton Abbey tonight, and I saw from the Colbert Report the men of Downtown Abbey doing a sendup of Breaking Bad. Nice.

  • Heather January 6, 2014, 2:03 am

My husband and I spent the Christmas and New Year’s break binge watching the entire series. We live in Tokyo and didn’t have family around for the holidays so it was a perfect time. We finished the last episode last night. OMG, such a good show! And yes, Jessie is adorable! Bob Odenkirk deserves and Oscar for his role as Saul Goodman. So hilarious! So many one liners.

  • Sara January 6, 2014, 10:13 am

We binge-watched Breaking Bad too (but caught up in time so we could watch the last “season” in real time). It is one of my absolute favorite shows of all-time. I kind of want to re-watch again soon (I did watch a few during AMC’s marathon a week or so ago) just to see what I missed the first time. Never has one show had scenes (one in particular in the end, not sure if it’s in the episodes you’ve seen yet so I won’t say which one) but I had to run out of the room and tell my husband “I can’t watch, tell me what happens!” And I have a crush on Jesse too. And I kind of like Walt…in a weird way. Ha!

  • Kimberly January 6, 2014, 2:10 pm

I LOVE Breaking Bad and one of the reasons I love it so much is that so much thought was put into character development. I read an article awhile ago (I couldn’t find it again) that discusses how colors relate to the characters. For example, Walt gravitates towards beige and green (the color of money/greed). Skylar’s color is blue; however, when Skylar and Walt are emotionally estranged you see Walt wearing blue (i.e. he is pursuing Skylar emotionally). Also, they carefully selected the color of Walt’s initial car, the Aztec, to make it nondescript – similar to Walt’s character at the beginning of the show. Just thought those tidbits were interesting!

  • Amy January 6, 2014, 3:47 pm

Love Breaking Bad. I’ve watched all seasons except for the last (waiting until it is on Netflix) and I’m looking forward to it coming out ASAP. I love Scandal and Revenge also- they definitely suck you in! 🙂

  • Sarah January 6, 2014, 3:51 pm

My husband and I just finished the series this weekend! I was so nervous to watch the end because I was scared to see where the characters ended up and I didn’t want the series to be over! Now to find another great series to watch.

  • Megan Moniz January 8, 2014, 2:57 pm

I love that you picked up on the clothing differences, that’s awesome! I just finished the series a few weeks ago and my life felt so empty when it ended! So sad lol. I hope you enjoyed the last episodes!!!!
