Bath Time! {For Adults}

in All Posts

I have gone from a shower aficionado to a total bath babe. When we were buying our first home, I didn’t even CARE if the master bathroom had a tub (but the Husband really wanted one).  I am so glad that we ended up with a big soaking tub because I am totally addicted to bathing!  It is so relaxing and feels amazing on my sore leg muscles.

But I’m not down for any old bath.  I need scents, bubbles, and soaks. 🙂

I really love this Epsom salt soak!  Kristien found it at CVS and, unlike many other soaks and salts, it is cheap – around $5.00.  There are a few different scents, but I like this one the best.

Sometimes, we make our own Epsom salt soaks!

This is my favorite combo:  salt + lavender essential oil.

Lavender is well-known for its soothing, stress-relieving abilities and floral, sweet, and fresh notes. It’s been used for centuries to promote sleep! Lavender is – by far – my favorite essential oil scent for baths, but there are other relaxing scents, too!

I also like jasmine.  It’s warm, exotic, and soothing.  Sandalwood is great (but pricey).  The oil of the sandalwood tree has been used for thousands of years for religious, medicinal, and beauty purposes. It has a rich, earthy smell and is said to promote deep, restful sleep.

If you’re making your own salt soak, just add 1/4 – 1/2 cup of Epsom salt and 10 drops of your favorite essential oil.

If you’re looking for other ways to use aromatherapy/essential oils in your wind-down and relax routine, try this:

  • Put a few drops of essential oil directly on your pillow, under the case.

  • Put several drops of oil into a spray bottle filled with water and spritz your bedroom.

And last, but certainly not least…

This is my favorite bubble bath!  It’s a expensive ($10) but totally worth it because a little goes a long way. —>  Everyday Shea Bubble Bath – Lavender.  You can buy it online, but I found it at Whole Foods.

How do you do baths?

My husband is the bath person in our house and he usually uses epsom salt for his sore legs. I just can never get comfortable in our tub. Perhaps a big soaking tub is in order for our next house.

Where do you buy your essential oils?

My husband takes a bath almost every day. I’m more sporadic about it because I am anal about getting the bathtub fully clean and usually too lazy to do so!

I am definitely not a bath person! But recently SO MANY of my friends have been making comments about how much they love baths and now you’re writing about it… it’s like a sign that I should give them another try, haha.

I love baths and a nice tub was a must have when we bought our house! I recently purchased this lavendar body oil stuff from Wegmans and it said you could use in baths so I add 1-2 squirts of the oil to my bath water and I love how oily (in a good way) it makes my dry skin feel! I also really like the body products from Lush. They are super expensive but all natural, I think organic, and no animal testing. I use their “bath bombs” as a treat and they are so awesome. They fizz like crazy, turn your bath water cool colors, and often have dried flower petals that come out of the bomb.

I actually haven’t taken a bath in a long time. I’m always focused on getting something done so a shower usually seems the quickest and easiest. I need to try to get a bath once a week to help relax and de-stress.

I also didn’t take baths until recently when I started marathon training. During my long runs I would literally dream about how amazing a nice, hot bath would feel. The bath after my actual marathon was the most amazing thing ever. I’ve since learned that after a marathon a bath is a no-no, but I don’t care….it feels too good! Yay baths!

Ahhh, I am so jealous that you can take baths. We have two tubs in our house, but I would not feel comfortable about bathing in either of them; I think it would be hazardous to my health!

This has kind of motivated me to buy a new tub.

I love Epsom soaks! they are so good for you too – detoxifying.

Random question – do you guys still have the vitamin site? I purchased a few things when you first posted about it but haven’t heard you talk about it much since. Just curious how it’s going!!

I’ve done a lot of research on essential oils but never actually go around to purchasing/trying them–thanks for the ideas! This makes me want to utilize my tub more than I do (which is not at all), especially now that I’m getting back into running after 6 months of injury recovery.

Right now my favourite bath combo is epsom salts, 1-2 drops of lemongrass essential oil, and a tablespoon of Coconut oil. It is very dry here in Calgary, Alberta, so the oil is a must!

I’m totally obsessed with the everyday shea bubble bath but I don’t think $10 is bad at all for such a big bottle (and its a good company). My first bottle lasted 3-4 months and I take almost nightly baths.

I believe it is ‘lie back’ not ‘lay back’.

I’m more of a shower person – when I want to relax, I’ll take an extra hot shower for a few minutes. The water pounding on my back feels awesome 😉

I love a good bubble bath — especially post workout! I wish we had a big soaker tub! Someday… 🙂

I have never got in the bath in my apartment, I use the one at my gym. Here in Japan, bathes at home are teeny tiny, so public baths are the way to go. Once you realise that no one is staring at you, you can sit back and relax. Even better iff the water comes from a hot spring, when it is said to have healing properties.

I take baths sometimes, but I always finish with a shower. I don’t feel clean if I don’t shower! Definitely love using Epsom salt, although I’ve never used essential oils in the bath.

  • MaryJo January 14, 2014, 6:57 pm

I took an epson salt bath today & it felt great. I’m going to have to get some essential oils & try those out!! Thanks for writing about this- reminded me how nice baths are!!

  • KaraHadley January 14, 2014, 7:44 pm

O’m’gah!!!! A bath sounds so good right now. I love baths and when I was in college (without a bathtub in sight) all I could dream about was taking a bath. But now that I have a bathtub (albeit a small one without a stopper) I never bother to take baths. I’d need to find a stopper and clean the whole thing, which sounds more stressful than it’s worth.

  • Christine @ BookishlyB January 14, 2014, 7:54 pm

We have a big soaking tub too, and before being pregnant I had no real interest- it takes too long to fill up and it truly does use a TON more water than a shower. Now occasionally I really want a super hot bath, but am too afraid of hard boiling my kid.

  • Rebecca January 14, 2014, 9:02 pm

I don’t really do baths, mostly because I’m impatient about the water filling the tub. (Also sinks, come to think of it.) I really only use the bathtub if my legs/knees are really sore and I want warm water to relax them. But it’s a process because we have to switch out the drain covers. Bleh.

Another way I end up with nice smells on my pillow is if I put lotion on my face before bed and it rubs off onto my pillow.
I have a thing from Bath & Body that releases a certain amount of whatever scent I pick every day. It can get a little strong, though… Currently my room smells like frosted cupcakes. 🙂

  • K @ Finding a Skinnier me January 15, 2014, 12:54 pm

I love baths when I can get them in. I learned how to make my own bath salts as well, just haven’t had the time but you should try cranberry/pomegranate essential oil, smells so good. Peppermint also helps with soreness.

This makes me want to crawl into a bath with a book tonight after yoga! 🙂
