Hi there! I sure hope you are having a more relaxing Friday than I am.
I’m juggling watching Henry while trying to make three huge deadlines; therefore, I am freaking out. So I’m just popping in to say “hi!” and tell you about a little DIY project I took on a few weeks ago.
Our photo gallery staircase…
I was inspired by Young House Love’s hallway, as I’m sure thousands and thousands of others were. I took this project on slowly, doing a diagonal of about five or six frames before committing to doing an entire collage.
YHL has a great tutorial about using newspapers to figure out the layout of the frames. Truthfully, I just eyeballed it. It kind of shows, but I still think it looks pretty good. I may move around some of the frames when I have free time Henry goes to college.
YHL not only frames family pictures; they do little mementos, too. I liked this idea a lot and have been framing all sorts of things… from a piece of my grandmother’s wedding veil to a sheet on different types of tropical fish.
The pictures of our family and friends are great because when I walk downstairs with Henry, we look at all the pictures and identify grandmas and grandpas. I kept some of the frames blank so I can add in new pictures over time.
All of the frames were from IKEA, so this project was relatively inexpensive. It sure looks pretty, whether you’re looking at the staircase from the office, the front door, or from the top landing.
While I wrote this post, Henry amused himself in his new ball pit. LOVE THIS THING.
I want to crawl in.
Have a good one! I hope everyone makes their Friday deadlines and has a fun, stress-free weekend!

I really need to start a photo wall!
Love the photo collage idea! I’m nervous to do one because I’m always afraid it will look tacky if I do too much. Yours looks great. I think keeping all the frames the same color helps make it look classy.
I love the idea of making your own ball pit for your kid. How many balls did you put in the pack n play? I would like to do the same thing for my son.
I think there’s 350 in there.
The stairway looks awesome…and so does H’s ball pit!
Hi Caitlin,
I’m expecting my first baby in July — a baby boy! I have been buying cute (cheap) onesies and clothes from TJ Maxx, Target’s clearance, Old Navy’s clearance, etc. I plan to check out consignment shops as well. My husband and I are registering on Saturday. I’m overwhelmed with the amount of products out there everyone says I MUST have. Any tips/pointers? Thank you!
PS – I love your wall collage. It makes your staircase look even more grand!
Yay, congrats.
I think so much of this varies from person to person, but check out these posts:

Thank you!!!
Love the photo wall!! YHL is the best! I also love that ball out! My aunt had an inflatable kiddie pool full for her kids which was great because we could all fit in! Maybe when he’s a bit older?
The staircase looks great! I’d love a ball pit myself.
I love it!
I love photo collage walls, I have been working on one for a while now and its still not done!
I would like an adult ball pit!
The wall looks great! I’d love to do a photo collage, but our walls are cement (yes, really) and we can’t hang anything. We’re moving in November and a photo wall is a must in our next place
My walls are cement too!! But I made an awesome (not quite as good as YHL’s) gallery wall using adhesive 3M hooks! They’re awesome
Do you have Corgi??????? and yes I want to dive in too! Hope your Friday gets less stressful, Friday is to good of a day to be stressed out!
Sara
Do you have a Corgi!? I hope your Friday gets less stress free! Fridays are to good to be stressed out.
AND I want to dive in that playpen full of those balls as well! Thats an awesome idea!
naw, hes just a mutt
What a great idea to frame mementos in addition to photographs! I also love an ascending photo collage along a staircase
Granted, it doesn’t take much to impress me decor-wise. I’m horrific with decorating.
Great Looking pictures,
I am glad I found your blog.
I love the frames! They look awesome going up the stairs!
I’ve always thought photo walls like that were so cool and look great, but I’m too chicken to make one at my own house. I really like the white frames and the use of items in some frames, very nice!
that ball idea is great!!
as long as he isn’t left unsupervised…not sure if he could get under them and not get up. …super cute idea though! awesome way to keep him busy
Doesn’t Henry throw all the balls out?
Not yer!
I have the same picture with the Ibis at the U Alumni Center
U alumni for life!
Oh my! That ball pit = AWESOME! Think it can hold me? I’ll gladly babysit Henry and play in the ball pit while you get your work done!
Huh! The ball pit is such a cool idea! Does he really like it?? I wonder if my 1-year-old would go for something like that…I’d love a safe place to put him for awhile! I picture balls being thrown everywhere, but it would be worth it.
Beautiful photo wall. I hear you. Gotta wait til college for any free time.
LOVE the baby ball pit idea! Adorable!
