Wahoo!  New workout clothes.  Old Navy is having a killer sale on their workout line, Active by Old Navy.  Up to 40% off through January 16!  Also, if you use the code 24Hours, you can get 30% off everything (but just for today… I went on a baby onesie buying spree this morning.  Whoops…).

IMG_3963

The folks at Old Navy challenged me to go through my workout clothes drawer, toss the old stuff, and add in some Active by Old Navy gear.  Hah!  They didn’t know the can of worms they were asking me to open.  And by can of worms, I mean smells-like-a-sweaty-locker-room drawers.

IMG_3972

Do your workout clothes trigger lovely memories?  Mine do!  See those pink shorts?  They are actually Emily’s – she gave them to me about two years ago because she didn’t like the cut.  I love them.  Every time I wear them, I think of her.

IMG_3973

And the race shirts.  So many race shirts.  I went through my drawer a year or so ago and tossed nearly all the cotton tees, but all but a few of the tech tees made the first cut.  I’m glad I saved them.  My first half marathon tee, my Disney Marathon tee… I can’t throw those away!

IMG_3975

Here’s one thing that I can DEFINITELY toss.  My *original* sports bra.  AKA the one that I wore all the freaking time when I was first getting healthy.  Man, I wonder how many miles this bra has seen?  It’s so old that the elastic makes a crinkling sound when I stretch it.  Obviously going in the toss pile.  I’m a little sad about it, though.

IMG_3978

And I’m not even going to tackle my mis-matched sock bag.  One thing at a time, Caitlin.  One thing at a time.

IMG_3979

In the end, I parted with a few shorts that are too small, two cycling tops that never fit me correctly (they were hand-me-downs), capris that I ran my first 10-odd races in, a top that smells like I just sweated it in regardless of how often I wash it (gross), and a few non-sentimental race shirts.  In the trash or in the donation bag, they go!

In the with NEW!

IMG_3966

I’m wearing the Striped Bubble Active Tank in Madagascar (I’m wearing the XS; on sale for $12!) and the Compression Capris in Carbon (I’m wearing the M; on sale for $20).

I don’t usually buy tops like this, but I’ve been wearing cotton tees to yoga and figured it would be nice to have something cuter.  The material is sweat-wicking and the cut is super fun.  I’m wearing an old hot pink sports bra under it, but I tried on the matching Compression Bra at the store (in M; on sale for $10) and was so tempted to buy it. You guys know how uber-picky I am about sports bras, and although the Compression Bra was in no way supportive enough for me for running, it was really comfy and would’ve been perfect for walking or yoga.  At $10, I should’ve gotten it!  Gah.  I hate that. (Here are sports bras I love.)

IMG_3968

I am a HUGE fan of the Capris.  As I said, I just tossed a pair of capris so it’s nice to have a replacement.  They have a wide top band, are made of an excellent sweat-wicking fabric, and come up far enough (just say no to crack, kids).  And there’s a secret key pocket. I went on a walk in these and was impressed with how they don’t move around – no hitching up or adjusting necessary.  The Capris also come as Leggings (on sale for $22).  I was tempted to snag the Legging as well because, seriously, when are running compression leggings only $22?  But I have a decent pair of running legging and figured that in balmy Charlotte, I don’t really need two.

IMG_3971

It’s nice to have some new gear.  Makes me want to go exercise!  And speaking of exercise, I’m feeling mighty good from yesterday’s 12.0 miler.  I love it when my last long run before a race goes really, really well.  It gives me such a confident booster!

Do you have a messy workout drawer, too?  Do you get sentimental about your workout gear?  Seriously, I may have never parted with that green sports bra if it hadn’t made the crackling noise when I stretched it.

I really do love my workout gear since I wear it all the freaking time 🙂

  • Samantha Angela January 8, 2013, 2:12 pm

I like the looseness of that top. I don’t like really clingy tops when I work out. Cute!

  • Claire @ Live and Love to Eat January 8, 2013, 2:13 pm

I’m a big fan of ON’s workout gear – some of their best products in my opinion!

  • lisa fine @ vermont vittles January 8, 2013, 2:18 pm

I try to go through my workout drawer a few times a year to clear things out, but often end up not getting rid of as much as I should. (And I’m always getting new additions through races and hand-me-downs too, so the pile always stays the same size.)

I’ve learned to get rid of race tech and t-shirts that are way too big, and I get rid of old running sneakers once they’ve hit their peak (it’s not worth it to me to wear old shoes that can cause my feet pain.)

  • Kinley @ Better Off Barefoot January 8, 2013, 2:28 pm

Haha – I just bought the black and pink versions of that top for my marathon this weekend! Yeah Old Navy!!

  • Angela January 8, 2013, 2:29 pm

Love all the new Old Navy styles! Everything I’ve seen on your blog and a few others have been super cute.

  • Sarah January 8, 2013, 2:39 pm

Do the capris have a draw string? I always feel more secure with a drawstring. I have at least half a dozen pairs of pants/capris that I can’t wear for high impact activities because they scoot-scoot-scoot down my butt a little with every step.

    • Caitlin January 8, 2013, 3:13 pm

      No string!

  • Nicole@ livingthesweetlifestl.wordpress.com January 8, 2013, 2:49 pm

I just bought those same capri’s…they are great!

  • anne January 8, 2013, 2:54 pm

You look great! Your new haircut suits you well.

  • Shari January 8, 2013, 2:57 pm

The Active items are onsale UP TO 40% off and the additional 30% does not apply to Active. I went to order and when my total didn’t reflect an additional 30%, I checked the terms….”Not valid on the following Old Navy merchandise: Everyday Steals, Uniforms, and Active.” Bummer so I didn’t end up ordering. Might want to update this post to reflect the truths of the sale.

    • Caitlin January 8, 2013, 3:13 pm

Oh wahhhh. I misunderstood too. Will update when I get home, thanks!

    • Kim January 8, 2013, 4:07 pm

I called Old Navy and they said to just keep active wear in my cart because a new coupon code would be going out in the next couple of days that does apply to their active wear line. Hope that helps!

      • Amy January 9, 2013, 2:24 pm

I placed an order and didn’t even realize the 30% off wasn’t applied. What a bummer. I know it’s my fault. You look great, Caitlin!

  • Ashley @ My Food 'N' Fitness Diaries January 8, 2013, 2:58 pm

I just recently bought a couple sports bras from Old Navy since they were having a 2 for $20 sale. I was super impressed! I love the top and capris you have on too – very cute!

  • Ingunn January 8, 2013, 2:59 pm

Thanks for the heads up! Just ordered a bunch of workout tops.

  • Kristen L January 8, 2013, 3:00 pm

I just cleared out my drawers a bit this weekend. I definitely am attached to some of my workout clothes — especially the race shirts.

  • Ali January 8, 2013, 3:00 pm

Oy how I wish it was warm enough here to be in capris or, heck, I’d even take no ice on the roads and sidewalks so I could actually exercise outdoors! So sick of winter and it’s only January! Cute clothes!

  • Halsy January 8, 2013, 3:02 pm

The active line is not included in the 30% off. I tried this morning. Bummer… but still some great deals!

  • Cindy January 8, 2013, 3:03 pm

I don’t have a dresser (as a renter of a furnished apartment my room came with a vanity but no dresser, something I am hoping to rectify soon) so all my workout gear is in a cardboard box. It’s a disaster. Most of the stuff is around a year old, since I brought only a few things with me when I came back to Scotland. What I really need is new trainers and an Old Navy to open in Glasgow so I can get cute outfits like yours! (The shipping costs are extortionate!)

  • Hope January 8, 2013, 3:31 pm

Thanks so much for the heads up on the sale! My first kiddo is due in just a few weeks, and I was in need of some nursing tanks, along with other items. Nothing like seeing your total drop $40!

A good friend recommended your blog to me this past fall, and I have found it such a great resource for practical mommy knowledge. Thank you for being so open!

    • Caitlin January 8, 2013, 3:38 pm

      Thanks 🙂

  • Courtney @ Journey of a Dreamer January 8, 2013, 3:35 pm

I have the striped shirt in the electric pink color… LOVE it.

  • Shannon January 8, 2013, 3:42 pm

Haha, I love the drawers, mine look almost exactly the same! I keep all my gear in our spare bedroom so more often than not, the contents of the drawers end up on the bed….although I do try to keep everything in piles; the next day’s gear (including socks, hair elastic, headband) and then a pile of bras, headbands, tops and bottoms. It’s a system. Not a great one, especially since I just end up wearing and then laundering the favourites over and over.

Workout clothes are fun to buy though because it’s always a motivator to wear something new or colourful to the gym!

  • MacKenzie January 8, 2013, 3:44 pm

I can’t part with any of my t shirts either…here’s a GREAT solution if you have ones that you don’t really wear but want to keep them in a form that you can actually use: http://www.projectrepat.com/. I got one made for my bf for christmas and it was awesome! The company promotes a great cause too!

  • Dani @ Live Lightly Everyday January 8, 2013, 3:49 pm

You look so great! You definitely do not look like you just had a baby! You are definitely inspiration for those of us who don’t even have a child yet!!

  • Jen January 8, 2013, 4:19 pm

I love your new workout clothes! Your running shoes are super cute too! What brand are they? I love ON workout clothes too. I have had to buy some new sports bras, yoga pants, tops throughout my pregnancy (I’m 30 weeks along) and have been lucky to find a lot of things in the regular women’s section that can just be ordered up in size to fit my growing waistline, without spending a fortune!

And, your hair cut is super cute, btw!

    • Caitlin January 8, 2013, 5:04 pm

New Balance 🙂 and thanks so much!

  • Kerry January 8, 2013, 4:36 pm

I’m so OCD about how my clothes are organized. Now matter how dirty my room is my closet and my drawers are always meticulously organized.

I’m super sentimental about shirts from swim meets. I have a huge collection from when I used to compete and a growing collection now from coaching that I’m planning on turning into a quilt.

  • Emily Malone January 8, 2013, 4:47 pm

Awww haha yay. I hated those shorts – totally cut me off at the waist. I always smile when I see them in your pictures. 🙂 I have a matching yellow pair that I never wear – I should mail them to you! You look great!

  • Nicole January 8, 2013, 4:59 pm

Cute top! I’ll have to check out those bras, $10 is a steal!

  • Jill Will Run January 8, 2013, 5:13 pm

I love that top! I’m so tempted to go shopping now, but I’ve never had any luck with Old Navy clothing. Plus the fact that I made a resolution to buy a new outfit each month that IS NOT workout related because of the sad state of my telecommuting wardrobe!

  • Sam @ Better With Sprinkles January 8, 2013, 6:07 pm

I desperately need to update my workout wear…everything I have is getting so worn! And yes, it’s all shoved into one ridiculously messy drawer :-p

  • Katie @ Soulshine and Sassafras January 8, 2013, 6:14 pm

I love Old Navy’s work out clothes! It’s where I get all my stuff (and as a dog walker, I have TONS of work out clothes).

  • Karen @ Runner Girl Eats January 8, 2013, 6:17 pm

My workout drawer is a hot mess. Absolutely no organization. I will have to head over to Old Navy and see if I can find some new gear to add to the mess.

  • Anne January 8, 2013, 6:23 pm

I’ve been a long time fan of old navy’s workout line! I’m loving all the cute new tank styles though… I love them!

  • Sharon January 8, 2013, 6:29 pm

I actually recently went thru my workout dresser (was switching from an old one to a new one) and somehow managed to give 75% of my good workout clothes to Goodwill by mistake, including my one and only hard-earned half marathon tech tee. I didn’t realize it until I was looking for it about a month later. Then I started noticing other missing items. I don’t how I did that but I was a sad, sad girl. But since I’m trying to slowly replenish everything, that gives me a good excuse to go to Old Navy!

    • Caitlin January 8, 2013, 6:57 pm

      Oh nooooo!!!

  • Britt @ The Busy Bee Writes January 8, 2013, 6:54 pm

I just bought that same pair of pants. And the blue ones. And the black ones. I’ve done weights, the elliptical, and zumba in them so far, and they feel great. Experimenting with yoga tomorrow!

P.S. that top is super cute on you.

  • BroccoliHut January 8, 2013, 8:32 pm

You look fantastic in that outfit! Love everything about it.
My workout wardrobe could use a clean out too. I have SO many cotton tees that I never wear anymore, but I’m still quite attached to them for their memories!

  • Lesley T. January 8, 2013, 8:37 pm

Cute clothes! And I’m loving the hair.

You are TINY! It looks like all of the baby weight just melted off of you.

    • Caitlin January 8, 2013, 9:10 pm

🙂 I wouldn’t say it melted, but it did disappear rather quickly after the four month mark or so. Yay running and healthy eating! Oh and breastfeeding!

  • Alison January 8, 2013, 8:44 pm

I always like the look of Old Navy workout gear but in the end the cheap stuff always holds stink really bad! BTW – That cut of shirt is adorable on you!

  • Jessica January 8, 2013, 9:15 pm

Someone mightve already said this but you can’t use the 30% promo on the active stuff. bummerrrrrrr (it is in the “details”)

  • Kris January 8, 2013, 9:56 pm

I haven’t tried ON workout wear, although I buy lots of clothes at Old Navy since their bottoms usually fit me well, and they carry petite sizes. I had already seen that Active wasn’t included in today’s promo code. I’ll have to try something on next time I’m in ON.

  • Lee January 9, 2013, 8:29 am

I threw away two sports bras last year that I literally bought in 1998. It’s interesting that the sizing of the bottoms and the shirt is different.

  • Meghan January 9, 2013, 9:32 am

I love Old Navy’s Active gear! Bought the green GoDry running top, took it for one run, and practically sped back to pick up some more! Perfect for cold runs. Love the compression leggings for yoga too — although I bought the carbon color and would NOT recommend it for hot yoga unless you particularly like looking like you just peed yourself :/

  • Amanda January 9, 2013, 1:07 pm

I’ve never bought active wear from ON before, but you just sold me on those compression capris. They are adorable! Would those work well for yoga, or are they pretty much just for running?

    • Caitlin January 9, 2013, 2:26 pm

Someone else said the color looks awkward when you get really sweaty, so if its hot yoga, I’d go with black. But as far as fit goes, it will definitely work!

  • Jennifer January 9, 2013, 1:44 pm

Why didn’t you disclose the Old Navy provided you with the funds to buy these new clothes?? Seems a little misleading and dishonest.

    • Caitlin January 9, 2013, 2:25 pm

The disclosure is at the end of the post.

  • amy January 9, 2013, 8:58 pm

not to a be a creeper, but i just bought your exact outfit. the top is a fun cut and color, and the compression capris hold me in as tightly as my lulu wunderunders {for a fraction of the price}. thanks for the sale heads up! i always feel more motivated by cute workout clothes.

    • Caitlin January 9, 2013, 9:43 pm

      yay twins!!!

  • Sarah January 11, 2013, 9:50 am

IM going to have to check out old navy, that outfit is super cute and so is that haircut! I went and chopped off about the same amount last august and i LOVE it!
