Monday morning calls for coffee oats.

Yes, that is a baby spoon.

No, I did not grab it on purpose.

Yes, I was too lazy to walk back to the silverware drawer to grab a big person spoon.

Hence, the need for coffee oats.  Yum.

All cooked on the stovetop:

1/2 cup oats

1/2 cup water

1/2 cup milk or soy milk

So, how was your weekend?  Mine was nice but a little bit crazy.  I feel like we did SO much ‘stuff.’  Nothing exciting or super significant; just a lot of chores.  I did get on my hands and knees and scrub my hardwood floors for the first time in months, which is always an accomplishment.

And Henry worked hard on his walking all weekend long.  He’s so close, guys!  He’ll now step between pieces of furniture (or people) if they are close enough together.  He’s got three more days to take five unassisted steps or I lose the house bet on when he’ll walk.  Bah!  I don’t wanna do all the dishes for a week straight! WALK, HENRY!  WALK!

    Hi,
I have a blog question if you have a second…do you save all of your blogged photos? On hard drive? Cyberspace? Or do you delete once you have it in your blog? Thanks!

    • Caitlin January 28, 2013, 9:32 am

I back up my blog monthly, but I don’t save non-family photos. 🙂 There’s too many… literally thousands upon thousands!

What do you use to clean your hardwood floors–Bona? A homemade cleaning solution?

Mine could use a good scrubbing, but I can’t use anything waxy.

      You go, little guy!

    1. I love that you have a bet going on Henry’s walking. Go Henry!

    2. Cashews are the best. You’ve reminded me to stock up on some the next time I’m at the food co-op.

    3. You make me laugh. That baby spoon in coffee oatmeal is just perfect.

Ok, so I’m probably crazy but sometimes I eat with a baby spoon on purpose. It helps me take smaller bites and makes it feel like I’m eating more ice cream than I really am.

Go Henry! My son was doing the walking with furniture thing at about that age but didn’t take unassisted steps until he was a year old. Henry sounds like an early mover though and you might win the bet.

GO HENRY GO!!!! And I keep meaning to try coffee oats!! I need to get on that!

Haha the baby spoon made me smile because my dad is always making fun of me for using small spoons. I guess growing up as a kid, his family used big spoons to eat breakfast, whereas I’ve always used small ones. Maybe not as small as Henry’s, but still pretty small! Have a great Monday, and here’s hoping for lots of baby steps! 🙂

Hi Caitlin! Thanks again for your blogs and fun stories. They are a great way to start the day! I have a quick question about Henry crawling/walking and your pets. Specifically their food and water bowls. How do you keep Henry out of them? I guess you can always just pick up the dog food bowls when they are done eating, but what about the water? Our daughter Sonia is just a few days older than Henry, and has been rocking back and forth on her hands and knees for a little while. I think crawling is right around the corner! We have good ideas about normal baby proofing (gates, socket covers, etc.), but the dog water is stumping us. I’m just not sure how she’s not going to get soaked! Thanks!!

We have a section of our downstairs that Henry is allowed it and another that is blocked off with baby gates so everything goes in there. The dogs switch between the two spaces so they get a chance to drink.

Hmmm….Coffee oats sound good! I wonder if, instead of boiling 1 cup of water, if I boiled 1/2 a cup and half a cup of coffee and put them in?? Instead of using the instant coffee….and a tsp of cocoa powder?? Now we have Mocha oats.

    Trying it tommorrow:-)

    Delicious coffee oats.

  • Kris January 28, 2013, 11:43 am

I always eat w/ little spoons, little forks, smaller plates, and even glasses. I don’t know what that says about me!

    • JL January 28, 2013, 12:57 pm

      Me too! 🙂

  • Chantal January 28, 2013, 11:48 am

  • Allison January 28, 2013, 1:41 pm

Nothing wrong with eating with a baby spoon! I find it makes me slow down and actually savor my food instead of rushing through my meals. I could have used some coffee oats this morning..hope you enjoyed them 🙂

  • sara @ fitcupcaker January 28, 2013, 4:05 pm
