Our super-secret project can now be revealed!

v4v

As you may know, the Husband, my father-in-law, and I own a holistic clinic here in Charlotte.  A lot of our business focuses on providing our patients with high-quality herbal formulas, vitamins and supplements (not the stuff you buy at Wal-Mart or GNC, but physician-grade products).  A while back, we decided to launch an online supplement store (if you’re been reading for a while, you may remember The Holistic Doctor Is In!).  When we originally envisioned our website, we wanted to be the biggest provider of vitamins and supplements online.  We wanted to provide everything to everyone.  Go big or go home!

It took a year and a half to develop The Holistic Doctor Is In!.  We hired a web designer, and although we were never satisfied with the look or functionality of the site, it was moderately successful.  So much of owning a small business, however, is knowing when to cut your losses.  Competing with the big supplement boys was hard work – and expensive.  After years of only ho-hum profits, we decided to close up shop.  We went back to focusing on our core services (the clinic) and decided to brainstorm our next venture.

Around the same time, we became friends with Isaac and Nicole.  Isaac is a website designer.  One day, we got to talking about what went wrong with our previous website.  Going big wasn’t the ticket – our services should’ve been more specialized.  We explained our issues with the site’s functionality, and how we got lost in the tangled web of online advertising.

Over many discussions with Isaac, the idea for our new supplement store was born.  It would be simple to use, easy to navigate, and focused on a specialized niche – vegetarian vitamins and supplements.

2012-12-10_1659_001

Isaac, Kristien, and I decided to launch a new business together to develop the site (my in-laws opted to focus on the clinic).   The combination was perfect.  Isaac is a life-long vegetarian; Kristien and I are veggies, too.  Kristien knows the supplement and vitamin business backwards and forwards – he’s a state- and nationally-certified herbalist.  And Isaac is genius at everything Internet.

We got to work on the new shop, deciding to go with the obvious choice and call it Vitamins for Vegetarians.  We offer vitamins, supplements, minerals, and herbs that vegetarians and vegans commonly search for (you can get all the nutrients you need from a plant-based diet, but just like in an omnivore’s diet, sometimes you need a little boost).  Everything on our ‘shelves’ are vegetarian, too, meaning there are no animal products on the ingredient lists.  We also decided to offer animal-friendly cosmetics, including deodorant, lotions and cremes, and shower gels.  None of our products are tested on animals, and most if not all ingredients are sourced from small organic farms.

Kristien also created two specialized “Essentials” packs.  The first – the Essential 5 – are the top five supplements that most vegetarians should consider adding to their diet.  The second – the Essential 7 – are for vegans.

2012-12-10_1659_002

I really like the idea of the Essentials packs because they take the guesswork out of choosing which supplements to take.  Some other supplements of note on the site:

Please note that statements made on or products sold through the Vitamins for Vegetarians website have not been evaluated by the United States Food and Drug Administration. They are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease. Always consult with your primary care physician before taking any supplements, vitamins, minerals, or herbs.

I’m so excited about Vitamins for Vegetarians.  The site is beautiful, it’s easy to use, and I would actually shop on it; I have the patience of a gnat when it comes to difficult-to-browse websites… or websites that play music! <— that’s the worst, right?  I’d love for you guys to check it out, too (if you think we should provide an additional product or notice any errors, please let me know at caitlinjboyle@gmail.com – we’re still in beta-testing mode).

That all being said, I’d love to offer you all a giveaway of our Holiday Stress Pack (retail value is $117.85).

I would start a travel planning service. My husband and I love to travel, and writing our trips off as “research” would be fantastic!

  • Jill E. December 11, 2012, 2:44 pm

I am actually extremely lucky to run going on 2 years now my own wedding and portrait photography company. I think this is a great company and wish you tons of success with it! quick questions, are they vegan?

  • Claire @ Live and Love to Eat December 11, 2012, 2:45 pm

I’d love to start a wellness clinic – food demos, massages, etc!

  • Wendy December 11, 2012, 2:46 pm

I would open a small shop that offered delicious food made by me! I’d offer on rotation a variety of soups, stews, chilis and chowders and a selection of breads. Also, I love to bake, so I’d always keep a large batch of butter tarts and date squares on hand.

  • Jodi December 11, 2012, 2:46 pm

Congratulations to the three of you! I would like to own a bakery, with cute little store front windows. Ahhh, if only I didn’t have a mortgage and a child in college.

  • Kelly December 11, 2012, 2:47 pm

I would love to open up a Healthy Smoothy drive thru – next to a gym 🙂

  • Shannon December 11, 2012, 2:47 pm

Very easy question! I would definitely start a small from-home baked goods business! I adore baking and giving my baked goods to friends and neighbors, posting my recipes, and having home-baked wholesome desserts and treats on hand for my girls, but if I have too much of my own sweets around the house, I tend to want to eat them all! I need an outlet for my home-baking that involves getting the results out of my house while also earning some income! 🙂

  • RH December 11, 2012, 2:47 pm

I would start a massage therapy clinic for animals/pets. My aunt is actually a certified Canine Massage Therapist in Washington state, so obviously I’d want her on my team!

  • Ashley @ The North Carolina Cowgirl December 11, 2012, 2:47 pm

I would start my own training facility and train horses all day. I currently work as a Digital Marketing Analyst and I honestly hate going to work every day. My heart has always been with animals especially horses and when I was little I dreamed of being a vet. Sure wish I would have followed through with that now. However, I do get a ton of joy out of training horses so if money wasn’t an object I would do that all day every day.

  • Danielle J December 11, 2012, 2:48 pm

I’d open up an oats shop.. Everything oatmeal. Cookies, savory & sweet oats, bars etc 😀

    • Nina December 11, 2012, 5:31 pm

Future small business venture: tea. I have no problem keeping my day job, I would just like to create different tea blends for cafes/juice shops/coffee shops. I am lucky enough to already create the blends used at my cafe, but I’d love to take on just a wee bit more and help craft some blends for the after yoga crowd that visits the juice bar, or the college kids whose brains need nourishing 🙂 I feel like the ritual of tea is one of the greatest medicines and would love to be a part of the process!

  • Claire December 11, 2012, 2:48 pm

I would open a bakery! Our small town sorely needs one. And it would also have plenty of gluten-free and other allergen free goodies 😉

  • erin m. December 11, 2012, 2:49 pm

    An online bakery!

  • Amy @ Extracurricular Activities December 11, 2012, 2:50 pm

I would open an interior design firm specializing in decorating people’s homes. I would take on people of all budgets and try to keep it to a “normal” schedule (like a 9-5) so as not to stress myself out. This is a dream scenario, right?? Good luck with the new site! I definitely think the packs are a good idea. Love it when someone else (who is trustworthy and knowledgeable of course) does all the research/legwork for me. And congrats on getting it up and running before the holidays!

  • Christine December 11, 2012, 2:51 pm

I’ve always wanted to start my own event planning business. I event plan for work now under a supervisor and I love it, but I always wanted the chance to do weddings and parties instead of just corporate events. ::sigh:: maybe one day.

  • erica December 11, 2012, 2:51 pm

i would definitely open some sort of vinage design/decor shop. i’m always seeing things i love (but do NOT need) and refinishing all sorts of items, and wish i had the time + space + money to be able to curate and sell it!

  • Kate December 11, 2012, 2:52 pm

I would open a coffee shop! We would also serve amazing salads and specialty diet-friendly baked goods.

  • Julie December 11, 2012, 2:52 pm

Hi! Just wondering where you bought your dining room chairs? I love your living room 🙂 Sorry for the totally unrelated comment !

    • Caitlin December 11, 2012, 2:54 pm

No worries! Thank you so much! The entire set was from world market.

  • Jacqueline December 11, 2012, 2:53 pm

    A magazine!

  • Lauren December 11, 2012, 2:53 pm

    Development/architecture firm with my husband.

  • Rachel December 11, 2012, 2:53 pm

That’s so neat! I’m totally jealous…lately I’ve really had the entrepreneurial bug, but haven’t had an idea good enough to leave my 9-5 job and take the risk. Hopefully someday! I’ll definitely shop the site next time I’m in the market for that kind of thing…I’m vegan, and it would be nice to not have to wade through products to find the vegetarian ones!
If I had unlimited funds today and was forced to use them to start a business immediately, I’d open a B&B. 😀

  • Danielle December 11, 2012, 2:54 pm

    I love the site, congratulations!!

I am studying to be a holistic health coach right now so my dream down the road is to open up a wellness camp for kids to teach them all about cooking, nutrition, gardening, yoga, etc. We would have a full time program during the summer and evening & weekend classes during the school year 🙂

  • Traci Ross December 11, 2012, 2:55 pm

I’m just starting out working on a business selling cupcakes to local breweries featuring their beers in the cupcake

  • Erica December 11, 2012, 2:55 pm

Very cool. Congratulations, you guys! I would open a juice and smoothie shop!

  • Anna December 11, 2012, 2:59 pm

I would set up my own translation agency that specialises in the translation of children’s books.
I just love kids’ books, they’re so special and people seem to only ever stick to books of their own culture, but the main reason is, that there aren’t that many translated children’s books available.
I would love to be my own boss and just working on quirky, fun little novels.

    One can always dream 😉

  • Stacy December 11, 2012, 3:00 pm

Yay, I’d love to win this.

I’d start a business where I taught creative writing classes/workshops to all different age levels. My fiance and I both have MFAs in creative writing and teach college during the year, so who knows, we might do this one summer!

  • Kristy @ Kristy's Health Revolution December 11, 2012, 3:00 pm

I would open a shop where all my talented friends could sell their handmade items. I have very crafty friends.

  • Hannah December 11, 2012, 3:01 pm

I have always wanted to open and bakery/bookstore. Good luck with the new venture!

  • Jill December 11, 2012, 3:01 pm

Something with kids’ clothes and accessories…..Thanks for hosting this! Fun!

  • Ann December 11, 2012, 3:01 pm

Nice job on the website . . . I love clean, easy to navigate sites too.

If I only could, I would quit my job at the print shop and focus on my freelance graphic design business. Someday! 😀

  • Julianna December 11, 2012, 3:01 pm

I would start my own farm + CSA + restaurant all rolled into one.

  • Dani @ TwoLoveBirds December 11, 2012, 3:02 pm

I would open a bakery, with only cookies! I would bake and decorate cookies all day! For now I’ll save the decorating for the hubs and as presents throughout the year 🙂

Good luck with your new business, it’s a great idea! As soon as we start running low on our vitamins I will be sure to check it out!

  • Meshell December 11, 2012, 3:04 pm

I would start an business of training men and women to make and use their own beauty products. The classes would revolve around men and women being able to honor their beauty while also learning natural and effective beauty techniques and recipes. I would also stock the quality sourced items while also having a few on hand for those peeps who like knowing but don’t have the time making. 🙂

    MichKCampbell[at]gmail[dot]com

  • Brandy December 11, 2012, 3:04 pm

I would move to the Canadian Rockies and open a touring guide office. Bring people on backcountry hikes and the like.

  • Natalie @ Free Range Human December 11, 2012, 3:05 pm

How exciting for you! Congratulations! I would start some type of backpacking guide business. Hiking as a career? Sign me up!

  • Sunny December 11, 2012, 3:05 pm

If money were no object, my husband and I would open a winery/restaurant and quit our day jobs as engineers. Its our dream and maybe someday we’ll be able to make it work.

  • Marissa December 11, 2012, 3:07 pm

I would love to open a yoga studio with a healthy cafe next door! Hot yoga classes in one room and a second area for ‘cool’ yoga classes. I would definately have some great prenatal/kids yoga! I love the thought of offering classes and good food that families could enjoy together!

  • Melissa December 11, 2012, 3:08 pm

    Congrats!!

I would love to start my own photography business!

  • Renee C. December 11, 2012, 3:09 pm

Awesome business idea Caitlin! Congrats! If I did not have to worry about money or success, I would open a gluten-free bakery and bake goodies all day long:)

  • Christine @ BookishlyB December 11, 2012, 3:10 pm

I’d love to start a bookstore/bar- grab a cocktail and check out good books. Music on the weekends, author reading on weeknights. Someday!

I love the premise for the new business- as a semi-new vegeterian I’m really strugging to get all the nutrients I need (I think).

    • Sonia the mexigarian December 11, 2012, 8:32 pm

Asna lover of books and a writer, I would be there every afternoon. Maybe set up next to my art gallery studio/bar 🙂

  • Katie @ Soulshine and Sassafras December 11, 2012, 3:12 pm

My best friend and I are currently in the process of starting up a dog-walking company – something that has been a dream of mine for the several years. Congratulations, and good luck!

  • nathalie_com December 11, 2012, 3:12 pm

I would open up a store ‘trader joes ‘style.. Here in Belgium, the organic trend is getting bigger but it is still very expensive to buy the stuff I want… 🙂

  • Glenneth December 11, 2012, 3:13 pm

premade healthy food store where people on their lunch break can sit and relax or take it back to their office.

  • Kim M December 11, 2012, 3:13 pm

I would open either a fabric store or a small nursery specializing in house plants and herbs. Or maybe a combination of the two.

  • Mina December 11, 2012, 3:14 pm

Well, this isn’t a small venture but if I could I would buy our daily newspaper. The publishing company that owns it is most likely going to take it from a daily to only printing 3 days a week. That would leave us as the largest city in the US without a daily paper. How am I supposed to start my day without the paper?????

    Mina

  • Stephanie December 11, 2012, 3:16 pm

I would open a coffee shop. I just love the relaxed atmosphere!

  • F. Plvan December 11, 2012, 3:16 pm

I would start a canine rescue business.

  • Erin December 11, 2012, 3:19 pm

Congrats!!!!!! What an awesome venture, I wish you much success. I would to something a la TOM and sell some kind of product where each purchase also provided the product to an African village in need. Something like that….

  • Meredith B. December 11, 2012, 3:20 pm

I love the site! From what I can tell, it seems really easy to navigate!

I have so many small business ideas… but the most exciting ones are to open a small gym with my mom (we’re both spin instructors and she’s also a pilates instructor) or to start a business planning trips for people. I am such a detail oriented person, and I absolutely LOVE planning trips for my family and friends. It would be such a fun job!

  • Shelby December 11, 2012, 3:20 pm

I would totally start up a fabric store that offered classes and lessons geared toward young people. I’m currently obsessed with sewing and wish that I could incorporate it into my job, although, with twins on the way, I think it’ll be years until I get the time to sew again…

    Congrats on the new venture!

  • Helene @healthyfrenchie December 11, 2012, 3:21 pm

I love the website, congratulations! I have a question though… I am a healthy omnivorous, even if I only eat meat and fish about twice a week… Do the supplement target only the need of vegetarians, or would it be a good idea for me to get some too? I love that you can browse by symptom / body part!

As for your question, I would love to be a translator. So it would not be a small business per se, but myself working as a free-lancer. Maybe one day sigh

  • Greta Broughton December 11, 2012, 3:21 pm

That’s easy. I would start a farm. The farm would have an organic garden which produces vegetables for sale, and there would be either be a winery, a brewery or both on site, as well as a petting zoo. We would also have a store where we would sell vegetables and baked goods. Getting back to basics would be so therapeutic in this fast-paced world.

  • Brea Giffin December 11, 2012, 3:22 pm

I would love to start a holistic clinic and online health consultation business (in fact my mother and I are in the beginning stages of doing just that). We live in Canada & have both gone back to school to study nutrition & have a medical doctor/surgeon who specializes in eastern medicine on board as well. They’re looking for a property to build the clinic on right now & I am in the process of trying to figure out this whole blog thing 🙂

  • Stacy December 11, 2012, 3:22 pm

    congratulations on the new venture!

i would love to open a small restaurant with local art, community events, and offering small, affordable, gourmet dinners and lunches, fine wines, and microbrews.

some other great ideas my boyfriend has come up with would be a wedding photography business (we live on an island that’s a popular wedding destination) and a quality, high-end beach furniture line (that would be resistant to all powerful winds!).

  • Kim December 11, 2012, 3:23 pm

So cool! Congrats! I just clicked over so I can shop around a bit.

I’ve often dreamed of opening a used bookstore/tea-and-coffee shop. I would call it Noveltea 🙂

  • Cathy December 11, 2012, 3:24 pm

I would open a coffee shop with live jazz bands in the evenings, maybe a poetry reading on a few nights a month and something for families on a few nights a month also. I wish you and your family much success with your small business.

  • Ellie @ OurOldColonial.com December 11, 2012, 3:24 pm

Sounds great! Do you have gift cards? I think it would be a great gift for my sister-in-law!

  • Heather December 11, 2012, 3:25 pm

How fun!! I hope it works out! Are your vitamins gluten free too?

I’d open a gf delivery meal service for new parents!

    Thanks!

  • Kristina N. December 11, 2012, 3:25 pm

Oh wow, congratulations to all of you! The site looks wonderful. It’s very user friendly and I love the simple design you went with.

I would love to start a photography business where I could provide professional portraits to no-kill animal shelters. I think part of the issue shelters have with lack of adoptions is that they’re not capturing the spirit of their animals in their photos. I would love to work with animals and help out no-kill shelters- a cause I feel strongly about.

  • Kim December 11, 2012, 3:25 pm

Also, was just about to suggest you create a Facebook page for Vitamins for Vegetarians (sorry, I’m in marketing), but then I saw you already have one! NICE!

  • Rachel December 11, 2012, 3:27 pm

Congrats! This is so exciting! I’ve always dreamed of owning my own business. Since I live abroad I would love to open my own English academy one day 🙂

  • Jo Anna December 11, 2012, 3:27 pm

I have always wanted to have a wellness business that focused on teen health- basically diet and fitness for teenagers.

  • Emily December 11, 2012, 3:29 pm

I’d open a farm to table restaurant with a philanthropic mission, like food donation!

  • Gillian December 11, 2012, 3:32 pm

I would start my own bike to work clothing line. Especially for winter!
Question, does the website offer advice on what products to use for certain ailments? Also, would you be able to elaborate on what the difference is between regular store bought vitamins vs. physician grade? We take a tonne of vitamins and to be honest I’m never really sure if they are actually doing anything!

    • kristinp December 11, 2012, 4:54 pm

Can I offer a vote for your clothing idea?? There is a HUGE need for presentable, business appropriate, bike to work clothing. Especially reasonably priced stuff 🙂 I am officially encouraging you to embrace your inner entrepreneur!

    • Nina December 11, 2012, 5:27 pm

      I would contact a local herbalist <3

  • Abbey December 11, 2012, 3:34 pm

Such a great idea! I’m the only veggie in my family and I think my mom is constantly worried about whether I’m getting the right stuff in my diet. Also, love the holiday stress package — I get crazy anxiety, but only occasionally — not enough to where I’m ready to commit to an every-day prescribed medication. I bet those would be perfect for me.

    Anyway.

If money was no problem and failure wasn’t an option, I’d love to have an old-school bookstore and live above it. Always my fantasy, since I don’t know when. 🙂

  • Brooke December 11, 2012, 3:34 pm

If I could start my own small business I would open up a cafe. I would have tons of specialty drinks and gluten-free goodies. 🙂

  • Lara ZP December 11, 2012, 3:35 pm

this sounds weird, but i’d like to open a rape clinic for victims…a place where they will feel safe and not pressured.

  • Lauren December 11, 2012, 3:36 pm

I would start a cupcake business. Always wanted to, but too afraid.

  • Liz December 11, 2012, 3:36 pm

I would start some sort of business working with young people and recovery from substance abuse. I know there are already a ton of small businesses like this, but kind of like a one stop shop for teens.

  • kristin s. December 11, 2012, 3:38 pm

Sugar free sweets! I’m fructose intolerant and can’t find a decent sugar free cookie anywhere!

  • Marilee December 11, 2012, 3:38 pm

Long time reader, first time commenter…
I’m a men’s clothing designer and I’ve always worked for big companies: Ralph Lauren, American Eagle, Levis. If I could start a business that wouldn’t fail, I would start my own line of clothes for women! I love to wear men’s clothes and am in love with rugged cool looks that guys wear, but they never fit me just right – I’ve got curves! Now you’ve got me dreamin’, I might just do it some day!

  • Jules December 11, 2012, 3:39 pm

    Two words: animal. rescue.

    • Laura December 11, 2012, 4:58 pm

      I love this! 🙂

  • Amy December 11, 2012, 3:40 pm

    bakery!!

  • Gwen O December 11, 2012, 3:42 pm

I’d love to start a interior design business with my fiancé 🙂

  • Tara December 11, 2012, 3:44 pm

I’d love to start kid’s center featuring mommy-and-me developmental classes for children 0-5 that specializes in the inclusion of kids with developmental delays/disabilities in group classes and one-on-one therapy sessions.

  • Devon December 11, 2012, 3:44 pm

My husband and I are just starting our triathlon coaching company – Integrity Multisport. We would love love LOVE to open a tri training center though and introduce triathlon to all ages 🙂

  • Rebecca @ Blueberry Smiles December 11, 2012, 3:45 pm

Congrats!! I’m itching to start a business to encourage kids to volunteer….I’d match families up with projects that fit their individual interests, help high schoolers do something that makes a difference and catches the college admissions’ eyes, and hopefully encourage lifelong community engagement by everyone making volunteering easy and fun

  • Jennifer December 11, 2012, 3:45 pm

I would start a doggie day care or similar.

Good luck on your business venture. I am a vegetarian and currently take Biotin and Vitamin D. I feel like I should take iron, but vitamins with iron give me stomach upset.

  • eliza December 11, 2012, 3:46 pm

I would open a bakery and spinning studio with “cycle and wine” nights where we would spin and then have a wine tasting.. because why not?

I would love to win this holiday stress pack because I have a few flights to take and I have the worst flight anxiety so maybe these would help a bit.. Thanks for the giveaway, your website looks lovely !

  • Lindsay @ Trial By Sapphire December 11, 2012, 3:46 pm

My husband and I would love to open a Christmas wonderland attraction. 🙂 We fell in love with Leavenworth, WA, via the internet years ago, and we finally get to visit it next month! Can’t wait! Obviously, we love wintertime, the holidays, and family.

  • Karlee December 11, 2012, 3:49 pm

Congrats on the new adventure!! That stress package sounds awesome. If money was no object, I would love to open a dog friendly wine cafe, with affordable small plates. a girl can dream right 🙂

  • Kylee December 11, 2012, 3:50 pm

I would love to open a cute little home goods boutique!

  • alli December 11, 2012, 3:50 pm

very exciting news! the site looks great 🙂 if i could start any business it would be a boutique shop. it would be full of all types of homemade items (i love to paint, sew, re-purpose!) and all kinds of antique finds. (i love shopping!)

by the way; i love the pictures you show of your house! it looks very fresh, clean and crisp!

  • Elizabeth December 11, 2012, 3:52 pm

Awesome! I am vegetarian but I am still learning so much about how to eat properly… I always wonder if I might be lacking in something important.

I would probably try and open a cafe or bakery… and try to make it as sustainable as possible in the process!

  • Kristina December 11, 2012, 3:53 pm

What a fabulous idea. I know you will all do great with this! If I could operate any small business, it would be my own pet photography business…

  • Candice December 11, 2012, 3:55 pm

I would start a photography business! This is such an awesome idea and I am headed to the site now to check out the vegan essential pack!

  • Leah December 11, 2012, 3:55 pm

I would love to open a gourmet/organic food shop with an eatery attached that uses all seasonal ingredients from the farmer’s market!

  • Kari December 11, 2012, 3:57 pm

    Lifestyle photography

  • liz December 11, 2012, 3:57 pm

I’d want to sell children’s books and categorize them all by topic. Things like bullying, dealing with death, healthy eating, etc. That way parents could come in with a need in mind (my kid’s goldfish just died how do I explain it?) And they could find a book that speaks to that topic. Congrats on the cool new venture!!

  • Sarah @ Yogi in Action December 11, 2012, 4:00 pm

    Congratulations on the new business.

I would LOVE to open my own yoga studio, and eventually make it into a holistic health spot- as my boyfriend is a massage therapist and my sister is a holistic nutrionist. I’m making the steps to make it happen- but I’m still years away from it being a reality.

  • Nicole December 11, 2012, 4:00 pm

I am currently in graduate school to get my doctorate in clinical psychology and in an ideal world I would also get my RD so I could start an business incorporating mental and physical health into a ‘holistic’ practice focusing on both mental and physical wellbeing, although after I’m done with these 6 years of school I probably won’t want to do another 2! 😉 good luck on this venture!!!

  • Colleen December 11, 2012, 4:01 pm

I don’t know what kind of small business I would open. I think I might like to try my hand at self-publishing, but not sure what I would write! Congrats on the new venture!

  • Kate December 11, 2012, 4:02 pm

I would love love to work with people on personal organization… I love it and people seem to get so overwhelmed with it 🙂

    Congrats on your new venture

  • kirsten December 11, 2012, 4:04 pm

My dream has always been to own a clothing and accessories boutique

  • Hannah December 11, 2012, 4:05 pm

    I would start a restaurant/bakery/coffee shop!!

  • Shana R. December 11, 2012, 4:07 pm

    Congrats to all of you!
I would start a photography business.

  • Lee December 11, 2012, 4:07 pm

I would love to start some sort of arts or photography business online.

This is super cool, Caitlin. Congrats!

  • Erin @ Living Made Healthy December 11, 2012, 4:07 pm

I want to open a fitness studio where we would offer tons of fun group classes. We have no group fitness options in my town or nearby towns.

  • Cori December 11, 2012, 4:08 pm

First of all, what a great idea! I am always looking for vegetarian vitamins, so I love this! I would open a bakery. I love to make cookies, cakes, cupcakes…!

  • Michelle S December 11, 2012, 4:10 pm

Congratulations on your latest venture! It’s always exciting starting something new. For the past 3 years, my husband and I have had a concert ministry that includes weekly shows, an annual rock music festival, and internet radio show. It’s hard work, but we love it and we’ve been blessed to meet some amazing people through this experience. You said something that is so important for owners of a small business: you have to know when to cut your loses – even if it is something you expected to be an incredible success. Your time is precious when you have your own business. You have to use it wisely.

  • Megan December 11, 2012, 4:10 pm

Congratulations on your new venture! This mama could use some stress relief 🙂 If I could start a business it would probably be a dessert/coffee shop. I know there are a ton of those out there and require long hours and potential to not make a huge profit, but in a perfect world it just seems like the cutest, most fun job!

  • Dana December 11, 2012, 4:10 pm

Congratulations! The site sounds awesome. I would either open a hula hooping studio or doodle professionally 🙂

  • Kate December 11, 2012, 4:11 pm

I would absolutely open a bakery!

  • aly December 11, 2012, 4:11 pm

If I could open anything, I would open a place for young (or first time/at-risk) moms. We would work on life skills and finding a stable job!

  • Leslie December 11, 2012, 4:11 pm

I would love to open a 50’s style diner/coffee shop but with organic versions of the traditional comfort foods– mainly because I want someplace to hang out on Sunday mornings with a leisure cup of (good) coffee and healthy food!

  • Kimberly Barnes December 11, 2012, 4:11 pm

I would open up a bookstore/coffe shop. I love going to bookstores and I think the world needs more books.

  • Tiffany A December 11, 2012, 4:14 pm

My husband and I would start a clothing line. He has already designed a few samples but it costs a lot of money to get started.

  • MC December 11, 2012, 4:15 pm

Turn our homebrew into some microbrew for the masses!

  • Marysa December 11, 2012, 4:18 pm

I would absolutely love to be a successful freelance writer (very small business!) and be published from Cosmo to Forbes. I love to write and have a degree in journalism, but I currently work in corporate PR, so while there is a lot of writing, I feel like my personality and my creativity is squandered. Best of luck!!

  • Jo @ Jo In the Kitchen December 11, 2012, 4:18 pm

I would start a semi-professional ballet company in my town. So far we have modern (my second love) and it would be great to have the other side of dance represented.

  • Beth December 11, 2012, 4:19 pm

I would start a running-related business. Good luck with this new adventure!

  • Brittnie (A Joy Renewed) December 11, 2012, 4:20 pm

Innate supplements are awesome!! I did acupuncture for a long time, while also undergoing western fertility treatments. My acupuncturist had me on lots of supplements and I stayed on some through pregnancy. B Complex, Iron Response, Magnesium and Calcium, etc!

  • Kelly December 11, 2012, 4:21 pm

    Awesome!! Congratulations!!

I’m a speech language pathologist/ researcher and I’d love to open a preschool program specifically designed to work with kids who have communication impairments/ language delays. All of the teachers would be speech language pathologists (hence the need for a lot of $$ to pay these awesome clinicians) and there would be a 3:1 teacher-student ratio. The day would focus on print and language rich activities to foster emergent literacy and language development. And all families would receive copies of the books read during school to read at home and build their home library (another source of major $$$). As an added bonus for me, as a researcher, all parents would sign consent to enroll their child in language development studies so that we can truly examine what’s most beneficial for these kiddos!

Not too much to ask, right?

  • Liz December 11, 2012, 4:22 pm

A vegan bakery/coffee shop. Yes yes yes!

  • Dominique December 11, 2012, 4:22 pm

I would start a company retrofitting people’s houses to be more energy efficient and making use of the renewable energy resources in their area.

  • Natalie December 11, 2012, 4:23 pm

I always say that when I fail at my real job (scientist) I’m going to pastry school to start a bakery! I’m not brave enough to start my own business though, I’d probably just work for Wegmans:-p

  • Caitlin Dodge December 11, 2012, 4:24 pm

If I could really do anything I think I would be a personal shopper for women on a budget. I have a serious knack for knowing what looks great on people (no matter their size or shape!) and am fantastic at shopping on a budget. I think that its a shame when people don’t feel great about their clothing because it’s such a fun outlet for your personality and creativity! Great giveaway and GREAT website!

  • Debbie B. December 11, 2012, 4:26 pm

Congrats on the new venture! I would love to have my own bed and breakfast on a beach. It would be fun to host my family and others when they are relaxing. Plus getting to cook my favorite meal -breakfast!- would be a dream. All the different recipes to try. However, I would hire a maid and maybe part time cook so that I could take some rest of my own.

  • Melanie December 11, 2012, 4:27 pm

I would love to open a small cafe/wine bar. Ahhh, a girl can dream!

  • Ali December 11, 2012, 4:29 pm

I would open a pediatric occupational therapy clinic. Or a bakery.

  • Jess December 11, 2012, 4:30 pm

    Congrats on the new venture!

I would start an enrichment program for kids with my bestest! We had a dream of opening a art/exercise/music/dance studio offering after school programs to kids a while back and never did it.

I also have a question if you could run it by Kristien? I looked at Vitamins for Vegetarians and under Hashimoto’s (which I have) and saw Vitamin E and Selenium together. My Endo. recommends Selenium, but haven’t heard of Vitamin E being used, what’s the benefit of E with Hashimoto’s?

  • Gillian December 11, 2012, 4:30 pm

I love this giveaway and question: COFFEE SHOP! I’ve always wanted to open my own coffee shop in a small town… I know it probably isn’t as glamorous as I imagine it, but I think it would make me pretty happy.

  • Maryz December 11, 2012, 4:30 pm

I would love to have a cozy coffee shop and used bookstore combined. Books could be traded and coffee and baked goods consumed!

  • Sarah December 11, 2012, 4:31 pm

I’d open a coffee shop! Love the atmosphere and I might actually enjoy spending time at work. If not that, probably something with animals.

  • Hannah December 11, 2012, 4:32 pm

I would start my own Applied Behavior Analysis clinic for autistic children from underprivileged/low socioeconomic households. I currently work as a behavioral therapist and nothing is more heartbreaking than a child who has to limit their therapy (and progress) because of financial burdens. Part of the clinic would focus on parental involvement and educating them about their child’s needs and at home therapies to further the child’s progress.

Congratulations on the website! It looks wonderful!

  • Melissa December 11, 2012, 4:34 pm

I would absolutely love the opportunity to start my own coffee business, which I would affectionately name: Coffee Carnival. I would supply assorted flavored coffees, regular coffee, tea, cocoa, as well as a “Dress-Up area” complete with various types of milks (almond, soy, flax, 1%, skim, sweeteners, sugars, flavored syrups, etc).

  • Ashley December 11, 2012, 4:36 pm

Congratulations!!! Website looks great, I am excited to look around more and hopefully make some holiday purchases. I think Vitamins for Vegetarians seems like such a natural progression for your business!

It is a good thing I am not going into business anytime soon because I’d have far too hard of a time narrowing down the specialization. I would open a business with apparel, merchandise for dogs, with an outdoor patio to serve healthy dining options for breakfast/lunch. Adding to that, I’d like to have a set portion that is donated to a local community organization.

  • Minda December 11, 2012, 4:37 pm

My husband and I would open a cycling shop/ cafe- a cute little place to get a tune up and enjoy an early morning coffee before a big ride. Love the new shop!

  • Jenny O December 11, 2012, 4:38 pm

I would start a vegetarian/vegan restaurant in my home town because there are next to no options for me in most of the restaurants in my home town.

  • Sarah Anne December 11, 2012, 4:41 pm

Oh how AWESOME!!! I love your new venture!

If I were to start a business it would be a fitness/nutritional coaching business! I love the accountability and support!

  • Brittany December 11, 2012, 4:42 pm

I’d start a photography business, focused especially on kids!

  • Kyra December 11, 2012, 4:47 pm

I would love to start a high-end juice bar in my hometown. It’s the one thing I feel like my city is missing!

  • Courtney December 11, 2012, 4:53 pm

My dream is to become a midwife (I’m in nursing school right now). I also think it’d be cool to start a baby photography business.

  • mama December 11, 2012, 4:53 pm

A fitness training business! Good luck!

  • Sorayya December 11, 2012, 4:55 pm

Sending all my positive business vibes. Congrats! Super exciting. If I had all the money I wanted, I would start a small production company that focuses on helping tell people’s/organization’s/companies’ stories through video. Even if I never win the lotto, I’ll make it happen!

  • tiffany December 11, 2012, 4:55 pm

haha i have no certifications whatsoever, but i think it’d be really rewarding to have a small business to educate people on healthy eating/exercise to help with weight loss and health problems!

  • Cassie December 11, 2012, 4:55 pm

    Love this! Good luck!

My husband and I are in the beginning stages of opening a nano-brewery. If money was no object it would be a full on micro brewery…but nano it is for now.

  • Danielle M. December 11, 2012, 4:56 pm

My fiance and I always talk about opening an independent handyman service that is reliable and trustworthy. My fiance is very handy and we would like to create a business where the handyman you called is actually on time, clean and does the job right! No need for single women, stay at home moms or seniors to stress about the creep they hired in their home…

    • Kate December 11, 2012, 9:33 pm

That is exactly what my fiancé does. Reliable, honest, and hardworking is so hard to one by but it’s certainly te foundation of a great business! If you want to put this in motion, I’d be happy to hook you up with him via email!

  • kristinp December 11, 2012, 4:56 pm

I would love to have a used bookstore – possibly the least practical and least likely-to-be-successful venture imaginable, but there you go!

  • Laura December 11, 2012, 4:58 pm

I’d be a combination life coach/efficiency expert, helping people find ways to improve their lives and live them more fully. And I’d love to have some kind of fitness/health program for kids from low-income families, something like Girls on the Run minus the run. If I had been inspired to be active and to be proud of who I was, I would have been a much happier kid and young adult!

  • Rebecca December 11, 2012, 5:01 pm

    Great idea!

Tough question. My dream would be to be a prolific writer of some sort.

  • Bryna December 11, 2012, 5:01 pm

Congratulations on the new venture, so exciting!!

If my family and friends had it their way I would open a cupcake bakery. But my wish is to open a midwifery that is connected to a hospital, that way more people would feel comfortable utilizing midwifery services.

  • Cara December 11, 2012, 5:03 pm

I would open up a little tea and coffee shop!

  • Heather December 11, 2012, 5:04 pm

My boyfriend (a brit/kiwi/aussie mix) and I would love to open a B&B/Winery in Queenstown, NZ. People, wine, and hospitality! All of my loves! Congrats on your new venture!

  • AlisonJ December 11, 2012, 5:05 pm

Event planning company focused on internal company events ~ to celebrate, grow, and educate employees and personnel.

  • Brooklyn December 11, 2012, 5:13 pm

I would LOVE to have a bakery. I love the vibe and all things sweet!

  • Talia December 11, 2012, 5:14 pm

I would love to start my own clothing boutique!

  • Laura December 11, 2012, 5:17 pm

Congrats! One suggestion-maybe you could offer a free sample of a product to try when a purchase is made. Could be a great way to introduce your clientele to a new product or one they weren’t sure about buying.

I’m not writing down my business idea here as it is an invention and I don’t want anyone to steal it! But I want to make it in the US-not some crap made in China and I’d love to offer jobs to homeless people or anyone living in a shelter. I see people on the corner of roads begging for money and I never know if they are really in need of money and trying to succeed or if they are addicted to drugs/alcohol and will just blow it. So I’d love to be able to give them my business card and offer them a job-I’m curious how many would actually call!

  • Catherine December 11, 2012, 5:19 pm

Some friends and I are actually in the process of starting a dance school together! 🙂

  • Julia December 11, 2012, 5:20 pm

I would love to own gym! Offer classes, have open cardio/free weights/machine, and also include nutritional coaching and a small restaurant that accommodates various dietary restrictions with foods that are still fun to eat. It’s not exactly a small endeavor, but hey girl can dream 🙂

  • Theresa December 11, 2012, 5:24 pm

My dream is to open basically a holistic healing retreat…a mix of a yoga studio, counseling center, and alternative therapy center…combining yoga, meditation, dance, animal, and art therapy in a therapeutic setting. I am earning my masters in couseling so I’m hoping somday I can do it, but it’ll be a long road!

Congrats on your new business…looks so awesome!

    • Kate December 11, 2012, 9:35 pm

What a wonderful vision! I’d you need a you teacher let me know 🙂

  • Nina December 11, 2012, 5:26 pm

I wish you much success with this business venture. I have to say I’m surprised an herbalist would recommend some of these products, though. Wouldn’t you say the best way to take your health into control is by being active about it? Say, consciously, even making ritual of taking an elderberry tonic once a day instead of popping a pill that contains minute traces of elderberry along with sometimes 20+ herbs? I think I’m just cut from a different herbal cloth 😛

  • Katie December 11, 2012, 5:27 pm

Good luck with your new business! I would love to start a dog walking business — my dream job!

  • Sarah @climbinvegan December 11, 2012, 5:28 pm

I would totally start up a business to help vegetarian athletes… or to help people learn how to deal with allergies to food.. 🙂

  • Elle December 11, 2012, 5:29 pm

That’s so exciting! Congrats and best of luck!

If I could start any business, I’d 100% start a jewelry line. I love designing beautiful pieces, but I don’t really have the means to do it. And if all else fails … bakery. I’m already getting requests 2 weeks out from Christmas 🙂

  • Annie December 11, 2012, 5:29 pm

My hubs had a great idea to start a mini-veggie garden business, where you go around and set up people’s veggie gardens for them and teach them how to use it/take care of it.

  • margo December 11, 2012, 5:30 pm

I would start a plant nursery!

  • katie December 11, 2012, 5:40 pm

I would start a doggie day care!

  • Jeannette December 11, 2012, 5:40 pm

I would open a personal training business! where I could help people get fit, and be fit myself! Good luck with the new website!

  • Elizabeth December 11, 2012, 5:49 pm

I would start up a cupcake bakery 😀

  • sara December 11, 2012, 5:49 pm

I would start a small business training adults with disabilities on simple nutrition and creating healthy lunches for professionals and others on-the-go! 🙂 A girl can dream!! Congrats on your newest venture coming to fruition, you are an inspiration in so many ways

  • Cindy December 11, 2012, 5:52 pm

If I were to open a business, it would be a centre for kids with autism. I currently work as an ABA therapist and am doing my Masters, hoping to become board certified by 2014. There aren’t that many centers that offer 1:1 therapy, and some of the few that are are terrible; all they care about is money. I would like to offer services that are low cost and well rounded, including aba therapy, occupational therapy and speech therapy. That’s my dream!

  • Lisa December 11, 2012, 5:54 pm

My small business venture would be something where adopted families could AFFORD to find their parents/families.

I know there are so many companies out there, but most cost a ton! Maybe one day…

  • Caitlin December 11, 2012, 6:03 pm

Awww this is awesome Caitlin! I wish you guys the bet of luck with the new venture and I definitely see a need for a business like this. I’ll be sure to pass the info onto my health conscious/veggie/vegan friends!

As far as the question about starting a business, I’ve started a business officially about 2 years ago after petsitting, being a pet taxi, and helping with general pet care for friends and family for over ten years. With my current health problems, I can’t work so being able to feel needed and give pets attention makes me feel happy and productive. Now I pick up dogs from their homes, take them to and from the dog park, kennel, vets, doggie daycare, whatever is needed as well as in home and out of home petsitting, or helping administer care after seeing the vet. I love what I do and I love spending so much time with pets. Nothing like getting paid to give and receive unconditional love!

  • Nicole December 11, 2012, 6:05 pm

I would love to do a weight loss clinic. As a RD intern I am hoping to help people meet their goals!

  • Alicia December 11, 2012, 6:11 pm

I would like to start a refuge for injured or aging animals. A place for them to retire in style and get all of the love, care, and companionship they deserve.

  • kristen @ livinlifeinlouie December 11, 2012, 6:13 pm

I love weddings, so maybe a wedding planner! congrats on the new adventure!

  • Gina G December 11, 2012, 6:18 pm

I would love to open up an agency to help trafficked women and girls!

  • Kristin December 11, 2012, 6:21 pm

I would open an unlimited animal rescue shelter to help all the poor little animals! I wish I could! My husband and I are starting up a Chiropractic Clinic in August so it’d be nice if that was free too!!! 🙂 Go small businesses!!!!

  • Michelle M December 11, 2012, 6:28 pm

Congrats on the site! I think I would start a bakery or become a professional meal planner…something food related 🙂

  • Ashley @ My Food 'N' Fitness Diaries December 11, 2012, 6:30 pm

Congratulations! How exciting! I’d love to open a little ice cream parlor! I love ice cream! 🙂

  • Jolene (Homespun Heritage) December 11, 2012, 6:39 pm

I would love to run a respite center for missionaries…someplace they can come while on furlough to stay, have a vacation, rest/relax/refresh. It would be extremely affordable and donation based as they can afford!

  • Elaine C December 11, 2012, 6:42 pm

I’d start an architectural firm specializing in small, affordable but eco-friendly houses!

  • Katelyn December 11, 2012, 6:51 pm

I love the business idea! It’s so hard to know what vitamins to shop for. I would love to start a business doing yoga with children with autism and other developmental disorders.

  • Stacey December 11, 2012, 6:55 pm

I would love to start a counseling clinic for high school students!

  • Heather December 11, 2012, 6:56 pm

No doubt, I would run a coffe shop and book store combination. Perfection 🙂

  • Farah December 11, 2012, 6:58 pm

I don’t personally have much of an entrepreneurial spirit. My husband does though, & I try to support him in everything he does. One of his dream start-ups is a hot-dog restaurant with all different kinds of dog dishes. We’re not vegetarians, in case you were wondering. Have utmost respect for those that are. I guess if I ever started my own business, I would offer editing services or personal training. I’m interested in both, though I feel I would need more training for pt & I’m out of practice with my editing skills. Being a mom doesn’t automatically increase my vocab or improve my grammar!

  • Cindy December 11, 2012, 7:00 pm

I would offer a shop to sell sneakers in different sizes as sometimes your feet are very different! I feel there is totally a market for this!

  • Stacey W December 11, 2012, 7:02 pm

I love fashion and would open a small boutique where everything is under $100!

  • Abby December 11, 2012, 7:04 pm

This is such a good idea! I would love to start a company that sells only organic beauty products made with local ingredients and essential oils. Soaps, shampoos, perfumes, and even makeup and body scrubs!

  • Alex @ Raw Recovery December 11, 2012, 7:04 pm

Congratulations on the new biz Caitlin! I think this is an AMAZING idea and I’m so excited to browse the store. It’s hard to know which vitamins and supplements are high quality and actually vegetarian. I’m most excited about the beauty part of the website because I’m a beauty junkie and worked at an Aveda spa several times, so I happen to know a fair bit about natural/organic/non-animal tested products.

Anyway, if I could start my own business (and I actually have a rough business plan and am considering starting it because I have one product ready) it would be to design a range of workbooks and ecourses for women in recovery from eating disorders, BPD, and depression. I would also love to be an author/philosopher and publish books and papers.

  • Jessica December 11, 2012, 7:05 pm

Congrats!! I love the website. And what would I start up? A coffee shop. We don’t have any cute little coffee shops except for Starbucks. I miss the feel of small shops!

  • Betsy December 11, 2012, 7:05 pm

I’d love to start a B&B in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Good luck!

  • Katie December 11, 2012, 7:07 pm

My small business would be a big band! I play the trombone and love it when there’s a live, big band at events, so I’d love to set one up myself and play for weddings, reunions, etc!

  • Kaitlyn December 11, 2012, 7:07 pm

If I had the skills and of course resources ($$) I would start my own outdoor clothing line for woman. Particularly short, more curvy women. It is so hard to find ski pants or coats for someone short with hips.

  • Sara G December 11, 2012, 7:08 pm

Caitlin, seriously this is such a cool idea and I wish all of you the best – I know it’ll be a great success! A couple of years ago I stayed at the sweetest B&B in Keswick in the UK and ever since then the idea of opening one of my own has been rattling around in my brain. I’ll probably want to move someplace a bit more picturesque than northern VA though 🙂

  • Logan December 11, 2012, 7:10 pm

If I could start my own small business, I would open a doggie care/adventure/dog gear business. We would do dog boarding and day care, but would go on adventures, like hiking or swimming at the lake. And I would also start my own gear line of outdoor dog gear.

  • Marie December 11, 2012, 7:19 pm

Congrats and good luck! I would start a great dane rescue 🙂

  • Sarah December 11, 2012, 7:21 pm

    Congratulations on your shop!

If I were to start a small business, I would start a catski business! I’d run the lodge, my husband could guide the skiers. We’d have at least 2 big lodge dogs to hang out with everyone. It would be epic.

  • haley December 11, 2012, 7:23 pm

I would open a publishing house!

  • Hannah M. December 11, 2012, 7:24 pm

Good luck! I’ll definitely send positive vibes!

I would start a really cool, hip bar/diner near my house with Saturday Bloody Mary specials. All the bars here only have cheap bloodies on Sundays, but you can’t buy alcohol in N.C. on Sundays until noon. I usually want the hair of the dog with breakfast out!

  • Coco December 11, 2012, 7:25 pm

My mom and I wanted to start “massage a trois”…I guess we’d bring in a third person?! haha. She had a few too many glasses of wine and bought the domain name in case we ever decided to do it…neither of us are masseuses haha

  • Samantha December 11, 2012, 7:26 pm

Im a pilot so I would love to start my own charter company flying people to remote areas to go on adventure trips

  • Mischa December 11, 2012, 7:26 pm

I will be opening a dental office in a few years – my husband and I are both second year dental students!

  • Shauna December 11, 2012, 7:32 pm

The new website looks great! As a vegetarian, I love the idea.

I’d do something along the lines of baking–not an original answer, but that’s to be expected given that this is a food (among other things) blog, after all! And my baked goods will all be ugly. I hate decorating and much prefer taste over looks.

  • Anna December 11, 2012, 7:32 pm

Positive small business = SENT (to you!)
My friends and I talk about starting businesses often, actually! Some ideas we’ve tossed around:
    a) a kitten/puppy calendar company production company
    b) a cookie bakery truck that hand-mixes batters with whatever you want and bakes it right there!
    c) a fitness gym
    d) a tutoring company
We’re currently in grad school (PhD program in psychology), and sometimes, I think we just want to give up….so we sometimes fantasize about these things!

  • Jen December 11, 2012, 7:35 pm

    Sending good vibes your way!!

I would open up a bakery. yum!

  • Kathryn December 11, 2012, 7:35 pm

I’ll be finishing up my RD requirements in May, so I’d start my own outpatient clinic. Congrats on the website!

  • Lauren December 11, 2012, 7:41 pm

I’d open a cute pet boutique with unique accessories, healthy pet foods and snacks, full grooming services, cafe with human and pet options (I’d love to bake all the goodies, too..why not?) out back there could be a nice play area for pets with benches for owners and an employee to watch if the owners wanted to go inside and shop. That would be fun. I’ve never really wanted to open my own business, but that would be a fun venture.

  • Julie December 11, 2012, 7:46 pm

That’s awesome! I hope to own a successful business someday too!

If money were no object, I would love to start my own Occupational/Physical Therapy clinic specializing in pediatric care. I am just getting ready to start graduate school in the fall. Hey, a girl can dream! 🙂

Congratulations and good luck on the new business!

  • Brenda December 11, 2012, 7:59 pm

Awesome adventure – congratulations and best of luck. I am not vegan nor vegetarian – but I am moving towards more of a plant based lifestyle and organic lifestyle and do purposely eat less meat (and when I do eat meat – I lean towards fish and/or poultry). That being said – what would you recommend for supplements? I have also wanted to invest in organic supplements – if I need them. The majority of my food intake are fruits and vegetables and I am rarely sick (I also try to be active outdoors to get plenty of fresh air and sunshine – for Vitamin D).
Anyway – I am excited to explore your new web store, especially when you listed organic body products…as I have the desire to move that way also – but not sure at all how to make the best choice.
Again – such good luck to you; I appreciate your spirit of adventure.

  • Brenda December 11, 2012, 8:01 pm

Oooops – sorry forget to list my business venture…a popular one: coffee/tea shop combination bookstore!

Mine would most definitely be a cupcakery. It’s my dream to open up my own cupcake/coffee shop someday.

  • Tiffany December 11, 2012, 8:02 pm

I would start my own bakery or become a wedding planner..such random picks!

  • Malaya December 11, 2012, 8:03 pm

Oh my gosh, that is so exciting and I LOVE the new web design! If I could start a small business without money being an issue, I’d combine all my families loves into place. I’d really love to have a small coffee shop with a book store. The kind that’s warm and cozy, with a big fire place and a friendly cat or dog running around to snuggle whoever needs some extra love. Maybe we could add a pet adoption agency onto it too; another one of my passions.

What fun it is to imagine what could be. Nothing wrong with dreaming big! (:

I would start my own nutrition clinic with a yoga/fitness studio attached!

  • Elise December 11, 2012, 8:17 pm

  • lacy davis December 11, 2012, 8:17 pm

this is totally an amazing idea! i especially like the “shop by symptom” area.

  • Emily December 11, 2012, 8:19 pm

I would open a small, cozy wine/tapas lounge that specialized in girls’ night out!

  • Claire December 11, 2012, 8:22 pm

  • Ashlyn December 11, 2012, 8:24 pm

I would start a small used bookstore/coffee shop in my hometown. I’m from a very small town, and there are no good coffee options there. • Sonia the mexigarian December 11, 2012, 8:28 pm

I would open an art gallery /studio/wine and beer bar. It would showcase local artists, wine and brews from the pacific coast. Every time I walk down Japantown here in San Jose, there is this old condemned building that I would love to renovate into this, with possible studios for other artists upstairs and workshops for underprivledged youth interested in art. If only I had the money. -sigh-

Congrats on your new small business! Sending you happy vibes! I will definetly be checking the site out for some vitamins. Found out last week I am very anemic and am trying to boost my iron levels without meat.

Ahh..I have so many ideas…..A company that would help people with disabilities, senior citizens, those with transportation issues , etc get to and from doctor appointments etc. to keep them healthy. The company would also be able to get perscriptions for these patients; again so they can maintain their health. As we all know, preventative medicine is key!! This company would be able to provide all of these services for free 🙂 ……A company that helps the homeless, those without enought food, etc. to never ever have to worry about being homeless or without food again. …….A company to provide all schools with the proper supplies for students and not having to worry about budget cuts. See!? My list is endless…

CONGRATS you three on the endeavor! So exciting and happy for you! Thanks for the giveaway 🙂

I am a dietitian, and I believe that healthy choices start at the home. So, if money (and safety) weren’t a concern, I would go into people’s homes and make over their kitchen/pantry to make room for healthy choices. I would also offer weekly food shopping services, to help them stock up and replenish healthy items!

If I could do that all day and then come home and hang out with my own pets, I don’t see how I could be anything but happy!

CONGRATS!!!! I’m all about supporting fellow small business owners, and if money was no object and failure was not an option I would absolutely open a Raw/Plant-Based Health Bar or Cafe type of place offering all kinds of amazing healthy eats and drinks. My Dad was recently diagnosed with Stage 4 Pancreatic Cancer, and my entire family has transitioned from Carnivore to Herbivore. Eating clean is a passion of mine and something I would love to offer more affordably to my family, and of course making it an option and ultimately a convenience for others!

  • Tyffanie December 11, 2012, 10:44 pm

I would love to open a little vegetarian cafe that would serve new meals each day/week based on fresh ingredients grown in the cafe’s own garden or local farmer’s markets. I love coming upon these types of places. I’d also incorporate vegetarianized versions of some of my favorite Chilean foods (I used to live there)!

  • AJ December 11, 2012, 10:45 pm

I would start a business that focuses on building affordable natural houses and hosting workshops for people who want to learn house to build natural houses. Natural homes are more affordable, extremely energy efficient (through their thermal mass), and healthier to live in. My preferred building method is cob- a mixture of clay and straw. You can make really cool creative organic shapes with it. Oh- and they’re fun to build! Nothing like playing in mud all day to build a house. You can even sculpt shapes into your walls;) You should google image it.

  • Andrea R December 11, 2012, 10:50 pm

I would start a personal organizing business. I LOVE cleaning peoples homes and getting them organized, I would love to actually get paid to do it and help people declutter and maximize their space

  • Sarah BETH December 11, 2012, 10:56 pm

  • Shannon December 11, 2012, 11:15 pm

My husband and I would start an indoor sports complex/soccer arena. We’ve been indoor soccer players all of our lives and have seen the very best and worst of facilities. • JV December 11, 2012, 11:21 pm

  • Hannah December 11, 2012, 11:41 pm

It’s finals week. I could definitely use this!! And good luck with the new business, looks awesome.

    • Hannah December 11, 2012, 11:43 pm

And I meant to mention, I would open up a French artisanal goods import store…so I’d have a good excuse to travel all the time and write off the expenses!

  • Sarah @ MarvelousDarling December 11, 2012, 11:47 pm

I’ll pass this site along to my boyfriend, who’s a vegetarian and loyal supplement-taker!

If I could start any business, I would definitely start a community-oriented, female-friendly “intimacy” boutique. I actually spent this semester working on an independent project with that in mind. I’d like to combine community outreach with education and adult retail. There are some awesome shops like the one I envision (ex: Sugar in Baltimore, MD), but there aren’t enough yet.

  • Heather December 12, 2012, 12:05 am

wow this is HUGE! congrats to you all!! if money were no object, i would love to do spend all of my time baking (and or maybe cooking?) for special needs diets

  • Anna S. December 12, 2012, 12:10 am

  • Erin December 12, 2012, 12:34 am

If I could cook, I’d open a vegetarian cafe that would specialize in mock-meat foods. They’re my weakness and after the place that did this so well in the Cleveland area closed, we need another. 🙂

  • Chelsea December 12, 2012, 12:45 am

I would start an event planning company – weddings, banquets, parties – dream job right there!

  • Sarah December 12, 2012, 1:07 am

I would start a vegan catering business or open a vegan cafe here. We have about two options where I live and it can get very frustrating! There is so much about vegetarian diets that would be useful to people here! Thanks for hosting and best of luck with your business!!

  • Melissa December 12, 2012, 1:20 am

This is so awesome. I recently realized that I have never assessed my vitamin situation since being a vegetarian for 11 years & have been researching vegetarian supplements. I will definitely be looking into the Essential 5.

Small business – I would definitely do some kind of animal rescue/sanctuary type thing. I might actually do it some day. I have dreamed about it since I was a kid!

  • Jessica P December 12, 2012, 1:34 am

I would open a bookstore/cafe by day — restaurant with live band playing 50s music and dance floor by night!

  • Laura December 12, 2012, 1:53 am

As a future dietitian I would love to open my own clinic and host cooking classes!

  • Lauren December 12, 2012, 2:10 am

I would open a shall quaint coffee shop that sold my own baked goods. Love a good coffee shop, eating a great and reading a book.

  • Lindsay December 12, 2012, 2:11 am

This might sound strange but if money was no option, I would want to start a construction business. My family have been in the development industry for… well, ever, and my partner is a builder. However, especially in cities, developing and building required an immense amount of capital, especially if you want to do quality builds. If money was no worries I’d doing it today, yesterday – next year!
I love the business that you’ve launched with the vitamins – online is the way to go these days, I’ve done 100% of my xmas shopping only – it allows me to access smaller companies that I live nowhere near, and I can see and research things easily, their origin, reviews, where they’re made.
Great idea and very happy for you!

  • Tally December 12, 2012, 2:15 am

Wow — this is so exciting! Good luck, Caitlin. I already sent your website to my vegan friends to check out.

I think I would open a gourmet chocolate shop. I would have violet-flavored chocolate, and lavender-flavored chocolate, and maple-flavored chocolate, and basil-orange-flavored chocolate…yum.

  • Angela December 12, 2012, 3:04 am

What a great new adventure! I have been wondering what this top secret project would be. 🙂 Are the prenatal vitamins recommended only for vegetarians? Or would it be ok to take those as a meat-eater too? I’m not pregnant, just curious! 🙂

  • Vanessa December 12, 2012, 4:30 am

I think I would start health, wellness, and fitness getaway in the middle of nowhere Northern Wisconsin without all the bells and whistles normally associated with luxury getaways. There would be no screen time allowed and people would have a chance to focus on things that really matter, nature, making connections with other people, having fun by challenging your body to new athletic limits.

  • Michelle @ Lifewithacrazypup December 12, 2012, 7:10 am

Love it!! Great job 🙂 I’d love to start a bakery. Or a doggie daycare. Or a fitness center. So many dreams!

  • Allison B December 12, 2012, 7:25 am

I would open a cupcakery! I love to bake and come up with fun toppings. Owning a cupcakery would be the best!

  • Kellie December 12, 2012, 7:43 am

I would open a Greek restaurant. My husband and I love Greek food and don’t have any close by!

  • Sara December 12, 2012, 7:47 am

I would start my own finance for horse barns business where I help horse farms with their invoicing/record keeping since most every barn I’ve ever been too sucks at it and hates it. Unfortunately none have offered to let me do this for them – even for free – so I sort of feel out of luck.

  • Ley December 12, 2012, 7:57 am

I’d love to start a coffee shop and cafe. We’d have delicious super high quality coffee and healthy alternative eats that were a little more exciting than the standard cafe fare. Honesty, once future husband gets his career underway this is 100% my plan.

  • Andrea v December 12, 2012, 8:10 am

Congratulations on your new business venture! If money/land were no object, I would love to own a doggie daycare and sleep-away camp. Two dogs is enough to sleep in my bed, but being around tons of dogs, day in, day out, would be a dream.

  • Molly @ RDexposed December 12, 2012, 8:16 am

Any business that is open 1-2 days a week and is highly successful would be great…ha.
Note: I’d rather see a post promote vitamins for vegetarians over GNC promos…but that’s just me.

  • Sonya December 12, 2012, 8:19 am

First of all, congrats! What an exciting venture! I would start a bakery as I love, love, love to bake!

  • Amanda December 12, 2012, 8:19 am

    Congrats on your website!

    I would want to open a cafe/bakery/coffee shop. Maybe one day…. 🙂

  • Daniela December 12, 2012, 8:22 am

It would have to be exercise related business, something like coaching or organizing running/biking camps.

  • Clizia December 12, 2012, 8:23 am

    I would open a bakery!
Do you ship to the UK by any chance?

  • Courtney O December 12, 2012, 8:23 am

Congratulations!!! I would love to start a more USER FRIENDLY coffee shop – more detailed explanations of the ingredients of all the drinks! Sometimes I get overwhelemed and intimidated by all the different options and usually just order a plain coffee!

  • Laura December 12, 2012, 8:27 am

I am in no way skilled enough to do this but I’d love to make musical instruments, especially violins. I can’t imagine there would be a huge market for them, but you said we can’t fail, right? 😉

  • Amber @ Busy, Bold, Blessed December 12, 2012, 8:38 am

Congrats & good luck! I would star an all star cheer gym that I would coach at!

  • Taya December 12, 2012, 8:50 am

What a cool idea! I’ve got a plan in the works to open my own fitness center with nutritional counseling…and if money were no object, I’d add on a vegan cafe and spa, too!

  • kristina December 12, 2012, 8:56 am

I would do two things- open a little coffee shop with my sister and maybe a nutritional counseling/personal training business.

  • Ali December 12, 2012, 9:05 am

I would start a soup and salad cafe!
Also, you should definitely market your vitamins to people with dairy/fish allergies.
I am allergic to fish and shellfish and it’s a pain in the butt trying to figure out where specific ingredients are sourced from in vitamins. I live in Canada, and there’s only one vegetarian multivitamin available in stores.

    • Luna665 December 12, 2012, 11:23 am

you could also address the many people who can’t take (or prefer not to) gelatin from **pigs** (For example, Muslim halal or Jewish kosher customs). I am vegetarian and it’s always difficult for me to find any *vegan* supplements here in Italy, but I know that in the Stated it can be easier… anyhow, GREAT JOB and congratulations!!It takes a lot of passion and stamina to have not one, not two, but three activities (clinic, writer, and vitamins) … I think I lack the “entrepreneurial gene” as I’ve never wanted to have a business on my own 😉 If I really had to, I guess it would involve animals and books… a library for cats, maybe?!?

  • Liz December 12, 2012, 9:08 am

Yoga studio and spa (with individual seam rooms!)

  • Kristin December 12, 2012, 9:20 am

I have no business experience, but I think it would be fun to start a running store geared towards women!

  • Erin Hack December 12, 2012, 9:21 am

If money wasn’t a worry I would open an animal sanctuary. I know that isn’t a for-profit business, but it is my dream. 🙂

  • Erin December 12, 2012, 9:23 am

Congrats on the new business venture, great idea!! if i could start any kind of business i would definitely want it to be something fitness/health realated- i’d really have to think about it though as you said, you need a special focus and i cant decide!!! weight-loss, nutrition, yoga and meditation, stregnth, toning, cardio- i LOVE IT ALL. since money is no object, i also want to pay someone to do all the boring bussiness stuff (i’m sure it’s fun for some, but not for me) so i can do the fun things, like decorating and picking classes to offer!

  • Samantha Angela December 12, 2012, 9:23 am

A bakery specializing in artisanal breads and very rustic desserts

  • Sarah R December 12, 2012, 9:35 am

I’d start my own cupcake food truck, and drive it all over DC and Baltimore. I’d also give out free cupcakes to the homeless. Everyone deserves a small treat and something to make them smile.

  • Stephanie December 12, 2012, 9:36 am

I would open a childcare center! I love the idea of being a businesswoman, but being able to have my (future) children down the hall that I can see at any time. 🙂

  • Jessica December 12, 2012, 9:37 am

    ****Good small business vibes!!****

If money were no object, or even if it were, I would like to open a coffee shop/art gallery/sandwich shop/bar with live music. This would involve members of my family and my boyfriend’s family. Both of our families are very artistically gifted- their drawings, paintings, sculptures etc would line the shop’s walls. I LOVE sandwiches (Like Joey from friends lol) so I would create the menu, specializing in grilled cheese and breakfast sandwiches- might I recommend the Jalapeno Popper GC? My boyfriend is an extremely talented musician so he and his band would play in the afternoons and into the evenings where the shop would transform into a wine/beer bar (a low key one… no bar brawls please). My parents would be responsible for the coffee/tea part because they always seem to get it perfect. *sigh* one day!

  • Carleen December 12, 2012, 9:44 am

Congratulations! Good luck with the new venture!

I would love to own a small bookstore. I am just lucky that my city has a lot of small/independent bookstores I can take advantage of.

  • Elizabeth December 12, 2012, 9:45 am

Congrats on your website! I am not a vegetarian and don’t know too much about holisitic health but it sounds awesome and you have done a great job marketing yourself. Keep up the good work you are an inspiration!

  • Katie December 12, 2012, 9:52 am

I would design baby/toddler pant/bottoms specifically for parents who cloth diaper. I always have to size up, but then the length is off. I would compensate for a little junk in the baby trunk!

    • amanda December 12, 2012, 11:03 am

This would be a hit business with us cloth diapering mamas.

  • Maren December 12, 2012, 9:54 am

What a beautiful website! Congratulations! Between my wedding in a week and half and the stomach bug that hit my fiance and I Monday night, I could use some serious stress relief! Nate and I have talked about how we would love to open a golf simulation bar! If money was no object, we would already have one open! I, of course, would work in the kitchen and Nate would help with the golf simulation part of the bar! It would be so fun 🙂

  • Sara December 12, 2012, 10:02 am

I would start an environmental consulting business specializing in water quality & environmental justice issues.

  • Melissa @TryingtoHeal December 12, 2012, 10:10 am

I would definitely do something nature oriented…probably a museum/nature center/awareness/photography place of sorts. hah. that’s kind of a lot.

  • Marissa Lucero December 12, 2012, 10:12 am

I would start my own all-star cheerleading gym. It was definitely and outlet for me growing up and I’d love to give kids the confidence, drive and athleticism that comes with the sport.

  • Vicky (Little Baby, Big City) December 12, 2012, 10:17 am

I would open a eco-friendly, safe baby play space with rooms people could sign out to have mom groups meet or meet with lactation consultants, nutritionists etc.

  • nicole December 12, 2012, 10:20 am

I would love to open a little coffee shop. A place to go sit, and unwind and have some yummy home cooked goodies! Of course there were be a fire place for the winter months, and a waterfall with tons of greenery for the summer months!

Wishing you the most business success! All of your hard work will be worth it!

  • Kristen December 12, 2012, 10:26 am

I would start a home-staging business for people looking to sell their homes quickly and for top dollar. After many hours of research (read: watching too much HGTV!), I staged my home to sell and it sold in three days! The first person that saw it, bought it. 🙂

  • Pam December 12, 2012, 10:34 am

I would love to start my own animal sanctuary where we could save animals and give them a home and safe place to live.

  • Rachel S December 12, 2012, 10:37 am

If money wasn’t an issue, I would love to start a small bakery that specializes in pies, my favorite treat!

  • Ali @ Around the VeggieTable December 12, 2012, 10:39 am

Okay so my idea is a little weird and would definitely not make me a ton of money…but if money were no object I would love to create some kind of cat sanctuary for stray kitties where they could get food, water, shelter, vet care, and love!

  • Britta December 12, 2012, 10:48 am

I would a fashion boutique featuring local up-and-coming designers and I would cater specifically to “shorter” crowd – 5’1″ and below. I could save so much money if I never had to hem a single pair of pants again 🙂

    • Britta December 12, 2012, 10:48 am

      *open*

  • Andrea December 12, 2012, 10:56 am

Congrats on the new online business – what a great idea! My husband and I always talk about opening a coffee shop/cafe with study rooms on a second floor. The coffee shop would be open until like 1:00 AM or something like that for two reasons: 1.) Usually the only places open late are bars, so this would give people another option when they want to hang out late at night but don’t want to go to a loud smokey bar, and 2.) There is no place for college students to study late at! Even college libraries close at 11PM. I always hated that when I was a student! My husband is in medical school and sometimes he likes to switch up his study environment, but his school library closes early, and so do coffee shops (but coffee shops are usually busy with conversations so it’s not the best study place either). Hence, the upstairs study rooms above the coffee shop! We have had this all planned out for a couple years…..maybe someday!

  • Amy December 12, 2012, 11:02 am

I love planning team building events or competitions, so that is probably what my business would be. Good luck with V4V!

  • Carly December 12, 2012, 11:04 am

For years now my aunt and I have talked about wanting to start a business that would make customized gift baskets for every occasion throughout the year! The best part is that we would mainly only employ those with special needs. My cousin has Down syndrome and seeing how hard it was for him to get a job after finishing high school sort of has motivated us even more to get started! If money was no object I’d start today but hopefully one day it will be a reality! Also the website is an amazing idea! Will you ship to Canada? If yes I’ll definitely be ordering!

  • Carrie December 12, 2012, 11:06 am

I would open a boutique for children and women!

  • Megan December 12, 2012, 11:08 am

I would start a doggy day care or a dog walking service. Whenever I hear Demi Lovato’s song Give Your Heart a Break I change the words to “Don’t want to break your dog. Wanna give your dog a break.” That would be my promotional jingle! 🙂

  • Aimee B December 12, 2012, 11:09 am

I’d open a travel agency that takes very small groups of people to awesome places and shows them awesome things, but also allows and encourages them to live like a local and to be less of a tourist and more of a traveller. I would teach openness and respect, and how to integrate that respect for others into their own life without making them feel like they have to give up their own opinions and beliefs. I don’t think there are many tour guides out there that balance that well.

  • Adriana December 12, 2012, 11:17 am

I would open a small and cozy home store where we would sell fun home decor items, kitchen gadgets, as well as serve daily brunch. I love the idea of creating a store that has a little cafe in the back and I think this would be the perfect combo!

  • Jessi December 12, 2012, 11:17 am

My boyfriend and I are constantly talking (wishing) about starting a vegan bakery/cafe. There is not a SINGLE ONE on Staten Island, where we live. We only have 2 health food stores and all their baked goods are pre-packaged. I make a MEAN vegan muffin and would love to bring healthy, vegan baked goodies to Staten Island. Sigh!! And my boyfriend is adamant that we “MUST HAVE FREE WIFI!” for our customers 🙂

  • Amy December 12, 2012, 11:17 am

Congratulations on your new venture! If I were to start a new business, I would either provide leadership development support to new school administrators – superintendents or principals – to ensure their success as they get started in their careers (in rural areas where they tend to have less support) OR I would start a non-profit mentoring program for high school students who are undecided about their post-high school plans (again, probably also in rural areas where guidance counselors do not have the time or budget available to provide this support). Someday…..

  • Christie M. December 12, 2012, 11:27 am

I would start a farm-to-altar wedding planning company! For people who want truly green weddings on beautiful farms with all locally-sources food, flowers, decor, etc!

  • Robin December 12, 2012, 11:28 am

I wish you tons of success! I will be a customer!

I’d love to own an all-vegan store. In an ideal world, I wouldn’t even need the money, so my profits could go to animal charities.

  • Ang December 12, 2012, 11:44 am

I would like to open a tea shop and bakery serving tea and scones.

Good luck with your vitamin store! 🙂

  • Jesse (OutToLunchCreations) December 12, 2012, 11:46 am

If money was no issue I would start a consulting as a Holistic Nutritionist and develop some type of business with my blog today! I’m actually planning to do this anyway but I need to take it slow so I don’t go broke. And I’m not exactly sure what I’m going to do yet so I need to spend sometime figuring that out. If money wasn’t an issue I would be able to devote 100% of my time towards this venture instead of 10%.

  • Anna December 12, 2012, 11:49 am

I would open a small children’s bookstore like The Shop Around the Corner in You’ve Got Mail. I want to be Kathleen Kelly!

  • Amy December 12, 2012, 11:54 am

I would open a craft workshop and lesson business.

  • Karlee December 12, 2012, 12:10 pm

I would open up a cafe/yoga studio/gym.. Like a fun, hip urban space where health oriented people would love to hang out. I live in a big city and I always wish that there was something like this. It is hard meeting people here and I wish there was a place where I could go and meet more people like me! There would be games, crafts, classes, good food and a good vibe!!

Anyone wanna give me a million bucks to get started!?!?

  • Brenda December 12, 2012, 12:16 pm

Congrats on the new business venture. I am a psychologist but recently have started dreaming about opening up a small olive oil/balsamic vinegar boutique or a shop carrying specialty food products from all over the world. 🙂

  • Whitney December 12, 2012, 12:24 pm

I would open a natural spa/cafe. Sounds like a completely weird combo, but I swear it works! The cafe would be at the entrance, where spa clients would sit and get a complimentary cafe item while they waited for their appointment. Since the salon/spa would be in the back, anyone could come into the cafe and get coffees, teas, and vegan/gluten-free goodies (and unlike our pals at Starbucks, soy and nut milks would always be free!) The spa would use only natural products (organic whenever possible) and we would have options for freshly made hair and facial treatments from fruits, veggies, grains, etc. Someday maybe!

  • Leah December 12, 2012, 12:27 pm

a graphic design firm. i have so many ideas. i work at it here and there. but if i had the time and $ to put towards it, i know it could be great. slowly but surely i’ll get there. oh and open and independent coffee shop. there isn’t one for miles :/

  • Jenn December 12, 2012, 12:34 pm

Small business: I would buy a small franchise from a good friend of ours who is in the Office Pride business (cleaning office retail space). He makes it look so easy, but we’re afraid of going into our own business again after my husband closed his construction company after 12 years.

Good luck with Vitamins for Vegetarians! What a great concept!

  • Lisa December 12, 2012, 12:37 pm

What a great idea! I’m vegetarian so I’ll be checking out your site for sure. I’m not exactly a business-minded person, but if I had all the money in the world I would love to open an animal shelter.

  • Jen F December 12, 2012, 12:39 pm

That’s so exciting! Good luck to you all! I think the idea to target a niche is a great one and the website is wonderful.

I would open a theater that would also offer classes to the community (kids and adults).

  • Rachel December 12, 2012, 12:45 pm

    Love this! Excellent idea.

I would open a small center that would offer workshops for kids (and adults) on learning to manage their strong emotions, building social skills and a mindfulness and gratitude practice. Maybe some yoga too. Basically, a place for kids to master some of the skills they need, but learn in school.

  • Ashley December 12, 2012, 12:52 pm

If money and time were no object, I would love to open my own hand knit shop. I love to knit but between money and time, I don’t get enjoy it a lot.

  • Lauren W. December 12, 2012, 1:40 pm

I would definitely start a bakery. I’m sure a lot of people dream of opening a bakery, but there’s something I would love about baking treats that bring back memories and smiles to people’s faces. My grandma was always a wonderful baker, and to this day, I feel closer to her and happiest when I’m baking.

Congrats on the new site!!! So awesome!!

  • Jennifer December 12, 2012, 1:42 pm

My boyfriend and I have dreams of one day opening a party supply website..We already have a domain name purchased, we just need the funds.

  • Sarah Jessica Farber December 12, 2012, 2:03 pm

If money were no option, I’d open a law clinic for the people. Tenants in disputes with their landlords, consumer protection claims, and lots and lots of education for folks.

  • Julie December 12, 2012, 2:17 pm

Congratulations! The site looks great. I will definitely order from there – I love places that cater to veg*ns. I don’t have to read ingredient lists 900 times, cross-reference with lists of hidden animal products, send letters to manufacturers asking what is in something… Great idea!

My husband is a small business owner and it’s stressful for me/us! I’m happier with the security of the corporate grind. But if there were no money or failure issues, I would open a yoga studio with free childcare and a whole zen garden, juice bar, relax and detox vibe.

  • Esen @ COOKBOOKSANDCAKE.BLOGSPOT.COM December 12, 2012, 2:20 pm

This is awesome Caitlin! I was just thinking how I wish vegan supplements and creams and such could all be in ONE place!
I will definitely be stopping by!

Congratulations- this is a huge achievement.

    Esen

  • Stephanie December 12, 2012, 2:32 pm

What an exciting adventure, congratulations! I would open a small whole foods breakfast and lunch resturant. There aren’t resturants here that offer the guarantee of quality food so I would love to fill that void in our town!

  • Katie December 12, 2012, 2:48 pm

I would totally have a coffee shop! I love making coffee drinks 🙂

  • Vanessa December 12, 2012, 3:10 pm

please, please, please make/source easy to swallow (read: tiny) pills/ find a solution for people who can’t swallow pills (at all) but are vegan!

    Thank you!

  • Rachel December 12, 2012, 3:43 pm

Love the website… I thought a B&B always sounded fun, if it was a big old house on lots of land!

  • Natalia December 12, 2012, 4:04 pm

I would have a little frozen yogurt cafe with plenty of baked goods. Co-owned with my mother, of course!

  • KSW December 12, 2012, 4:18 pm

I would set up a booth at the entrance to campgrounds and (for a price) offer to set up your whole campsite (sleeping tent, air mattress, sleeping bags, kitchen tent, tarps, firepit etc….) while you sit back and have a beer.
    Wouldn’t you hire me?? LOL

  • Laura J December 12, 2012, 5:19 pm

If it was something I’m good at…probably something to do with helping people move. Not the actual moving, but the logistics behind it, how to deal with movers, hiring someone to clean after the movers leave, setting up the new place, etc.

  • marie December 12, 2012, 6:44 pm

I’d operate a no-kill shelter for special needs kittehs.

  • Jolene (www.everydayfoodie.ca) December 12, 2012, 7:49 pm

I would start a small party planning business for things like showers/bachelorette parties, etc.. I love planning stuff like that!

  • Amanda Bowen December 12, 2012, 9:01 pm

I would start a fashion consultation business where I video conference with people to evaluate their body shape, current wardrobe, and mix and match items to create flattering outfits.

  • sarah r. December 12, 2012, 9:07 pm

congrats!! i wish you guys good luck
if money/failure were not an option, i would start my own yoga studio. ::sigh::

  • Abby A December 12, 2012, 10:45 pm

I would start a gluten free bakery! I love to bake and think it would be so fun to see people sink their teeth into something that made them smile. 🙂

  • kristen December 12, 2012, 11:34 pm

I always wanted to start my own bakery. I thought it would be so much fun and I love that level of service.

  • jessika December 13, 2012, 12:46 am

First off, congrats! That’s so exciting!
If I was able to run any small business, it would be an exotic animal rescue. I’m currently in school to get my BS in Biology so that I can be a zoo keeper. I love animals and believe that education is the best defense for our furry (and scaley) friends.

  • Megan December 13, 2012, 1:47 am

Outpatient physical therapy clinic specializing in runners!

  • Ellen December 13, 2012, 5:27 am

I’d start a knitting community shop – it would sell wool and do lots of classes, and have knitting mornings and all that sort of stuff, as well as selling wholesome, homemade cakes and proper pots of tea 🙂

  • Joy December 13, 2012, 7:08 am

Congrats! I’m headed there as soon as I write here.

I’d like to start a I guess you’d call it wellness center for animals (mainly dogs and horses) where I would do things like massage therapy (looking into the training for that now), and walking (or riding) so they got movement into days where the owners couldn’t give it to them, and overnight housing (1 or 2 at a time) (dogs only – though I could stay with the horses)

  • Sarah C December 13, 2012, 10:38 am

I’d start a organic bakery in my tiny little town:-)

  • Danielle December 13, 2012, 10:50 am

Congratulations on the new business! I would set up a writing consultation service! I love to write, edit, etc. and would have so much fun helping others with their writing projects.

  • Diana @ frontyardfoodie December 13, 2012, 5:20 pm

Oh man, that looks GREAT! Congrats on the launch!

From all the ideas I have for small businesses it would be hard to choose. I have a number of very different interests…..like, I’d love to open a store that sold only local farmers products, I’d LOVE to open a center dedicated to breastfeeding support (and all that entails) along with maybe birthing classes for natural birthing as well as birth support (doulas, midwife referrals, etc).

There’s a lot going on in my head about businesses and I have even thought that starting a school where young children learn life skills (cooking, making cleaning products, basic sewing, gardening, and preserving food, etc) would be cool. Not like home ec class, but much more in depth and completely sustainable. I like the idea of kids learning these things and since households are so busy these days I feel like that really falls to the wayside.

  • Liz December 13, 2012, 5:51 pm

I would love to own a cupcake shop in north London (my favourite part of the world). I would call it ‘Emily’s Kitchen’ after my sister, Liz’s Kitchen doesn’t work as well. I would love to make everyday cupcakes and special occasion cupcakes such as wedding, birthday, baby shower and christening cupcakes. My ideal store would be a cute 1940’s style with the people working in the store in 40’s style clothes. Can you tell I have thought about this a lot? Anyway love to all small businesses.

  • Kate December 14, 2012, 1:35 am

    Do you deliver to Canada?
    Looks awesom 🙂 congrats!

    • Caitlin December 14, 2012, 8:01 am

      Yes!

  • jen December 14, 2012, 1:01 pm

in my dreams, i’d love to open a vegan wine bar!

  • Nicole December 14, 2012, 2:25 pm

Hmmm…maybe a Spa? My mom used to do hair so this is something we have talked about…that will never happen! LOL Congrats on the business!

  • Samantha December 14, 2012, 11:07 pm

I love, love, love your dining room. May I ask what color is on the wall?

I’ve always wanted to open a bed and breakfast 🙂

I know this is a little late for the contest, but I would open an ice cream shop off of Northgate in College Station, TX. I even know where I would have it…right across the street from the pizza-by-the-slice restaurant. I always wanted ice cream with my pizza, but there wasn’t any place nearby to get any. Problem solved! 🙂

I do have one question about the vitamins you have – will they be as effective if you aren’t a vegetarian? I have no intention of becoming a vegetarian, but I do think I should pay more attention to the types of vitamins that I use and would love to support your family’s business too!
