My Weekend in {Instagram}

Cages: When you’re in, you always want out, but when you’re out, you want in.  Conundrum.

photo 1

Putting on our fancy clothes for a ‘night’ out on the town.  I use ‘night’ cautiously because our night must end by 8 PM no matter what.

We went to the expansion party for the local Y2Yoga studio.  They are expanding into the adjacent restaurant space and will have three studios, four locker rooms, a juice bar, a smoothie bar, a sushi bar, and a wine bar.  I hear it will be the largest studio in the southeast when all is said and done.

Henry had loads and loads of fun with all of these ladies but got a little overwhelmed at one point, so we went next door to the toy store and checked out the goodies.

photo 1

Speaking of toys… He’s started to dig through the toy box, which is too cute.  He also tried real food for the first time yesterday (sweet potato).  It was messy.

photo 2

Checking off the training plan.  Due to run 6 miles today.

photo 3

Oh hell yes.

photo 4

No. Really.  Hell yes.

photo 5

And last, lots and lots of laundry.

photo 2

What else is on the agenda?  Well, that six miler must be done.  And I think we’re going to buy and decorate a Christmas tree.  Oh, and once Henry wakes up from this nap, I’m going to go Christmas shopping.  I love the weekends.

Dear Caitlin, I always find your longer articles about a certain subject incredibly interesting and informational when you do them. I was wondering, if you could do one on binge eating or make a call out to your readers, if any of them should have information on it/how to overcome it to share. I’m an 18-year old girl who have been suffering from it for over a year now, and though I am neither obese nor underweight it has been affecting my life a great deal in a very bad direction. I feel like there is not a lot of information on the subject on the internet, and most people aren’t aware of this eating disorder or don’t take it as seriously as other eating disorders. I apologize if my english isn’t the best, but I hope that you might have some advice or any of your readers do. Best regards from Maria.

Maria,
I hope you will see this comment. I am so sorry to hear that you are affected that way. I was bulimic as a teen and then I had issues with binge eating. I was never overweight, but it still affected me in a lot of ways.
Trying to get help and some information is the first step towards recovery.
I wish I had a miracle solution to offer you but I think recovery from any eating disorder is a long process.
Here are a few things that helped me:
Stop restricting myself: If you have some foods that you consider “bad” and deprive yourself from, then it is more likely that you will binge on them. If you allow yourself ice-cream, cookies, cheese etc as part of a healthy diet, then they are less triggering.
Avoid alcohol: I don’t know if you drink at all, but for me it was a trigger. I would come home, feel sad and lose control.
Find what is really bothering you: Often binge eating is a sign of unhappiness and bad feelings. If you can, seek a therapist. Or talk to your friends / parents about what is upsetting you. Dealing with those emotions will help you avoid the need for bingeing. For me, my eating disorder was triggered by being the victim of sexual assault and having an abusive parent. But we all have different triggers.
Find other ways to cope: For me this was the hardest, replacing bingeing (and sometimes purging) with something else. I found that I could not do it when I felt sad or overwhelmed. But when I started exercising and crafting when I was happy, I found that I would naturally turn to those things when I was sad. So when you are feeling good, try cultivating a healthy hobby you enjoy, and turn to it in hard times.
Remember, it takes time and you’ll need support. Recovery is a process, so you might have relapses. But you can get better :)
Anyhow I hope my “novel” might help you! And if you need any support, feel free to contact me. And I look forward to reading others’ solutions when Caitlin posts them.

I went to Y2 with Katie (sweettater) when I visited Charlotte this summer and loved it. The expansions sound awesome, I’ll have to swing by if I’m ever in town again!

I must be the odd one out. The idea of a wine bar and sushi bar at a yoga studio seems off to me, entirely out of place. Different strokes for different folks though, I guess. :-)
