Blog Roll

in All Posts

A few days ago, I was asked to give you all an updated blog roll – you know, a list of the blogs that I love to read.

IMG_3385

I read SO many blogs that it’s hard to give a comprehensive list – which is why I don’t keep a traditional blog roll – but I thought I could compile a few that I’ve been really loving lately…

IMG_3386

I’ve been reading some of these blogs for well over four years.  I feel like I know these people.  I guess I do.  Just like you know me if you’ve been reading for a while (thank you!).

I’m suprised that “the hungry runner girl” is not listed.. I love to read her blog 🙂

    • Amy December 14, 2012, 11:50 am

Me too! It’s my favorite. 🙂

  • Katie @ Peace Love & Oats December 14, 2012, 9:35 am

I read a lot of those blogs, as well as a lot of local Chicago bloggers and a few others like Hungry Runner Girl, Lindsay’s List, Cotter Cruch and Tina Reale.

    • Whitney December 14, 2012, 10:06 am

Love HungryRunnerGirl!! She is funny, a great mom and a badass runner! 🙂

  • Lindsey @ Chick Flick Chic December 14, 2012, 9:35 am

I LOVE Dear Prudence and Dan Savage! I’m curious as to why you have mixed feelings about Prudie’s advice? I always find the comments section on Slate so interesting!

  • jenn December 14, 2012, 9:56 am

would “eat, live, run” fit in anywhere? I am not sure where I would place her. Do you read much of her blog? thanks!

    • Caitlin December 14, 2012, 12:03 pm

Baking blog, I guess! I’ve known Jenna for about four years and check in her blog regularly still 🙂 I don’t eat a lot of the things that she cooks so I read once a week or so just to see if she’s put up any personal posts. She’s great and I’m so happy she just got engaged. Yayyyyy!

  • Laura @ Backstage Balance December 14, 2012, 10:04 am

I also love Hungry Runner Girl! Janae is hilarious and her baby daughter is adorable.
Another blog I read daily is Shut up and Run, Beth is unabashedly awesome, has a crude sense of humor that I get a kick out of, and she’s a running coach so there are great running articles.

  • Kara December 14, 2012, 10:05 am

Isn’t “That Wife” the blog where she keeps her baby in a bathroom and triple diapered her baby to avoid having to get up at night and change him? Someone was telling me about that blog the other day and I thought they must be exaggerating, but apparently not. I hope you aren’t reading that for actual parenting advice haha.

    • Caitlin December 14, 2012, 12:02 pm

I think Jenna gets a really bad rap. Unfairly. I really like her a lot, even though I do not agree with all of her opinions. One of the things that I like about her is she is not afraid to have an opinion that is different than other people’s, and she is not afraid to change her opinions as she grows and learns more. No idea about triple wrapping baby in diapers but her son did have his crib in their walk-in closet. They lived in a two bedroom apartment and the other bedroom was an office and playspace I think. I don’t know why people got SO worked up about him sleeping in the closet – it’s dark, quiet, and he’s a baby – what does he care? Probably 1/2 of the world’s babies would kill to sleep in a large walk-in closet with heating and quiet.

      • Kara December 14, 2012, 12:08 pm

1/2 of the world’s babies would kill? This doesn’t bode well for our society’s future.

        • Caitlin December 14, 2012, 12:11 pm

          😛

          • Caitlin December 14, 2012, 12:37 pm

This thread has started a whole lot of feedback on Jenna, some of which is really mean. Everyone is entitled to their own opinions, but I’m not going to publish comments that attack someone else; that’s just not what HTP is about. I guess we can sum this thread up by saying that TW is a controversial blog 🙂 Moving on…

      • Margaret December 14, 2012, 12:52 pm

Please at least let a comment through or respond yourself that it was not a walk-in closet, nor a crib, but a play-n-pack in the second bathroom.

        • Caitlin December 14, 2012, 12:54 pm

          There you go!

          • Rachel December 17, 2012, 4:12 pm

I think it’s cool that you let that comment through, Caitlin, really, but doesn’t the baby in the bathroom thing strike you as a bit off? Can you think of a scenario where you would have Henry sleep in a pack-n-play in a bathroom? (I don’t mean like on vacation, but as his permanent sleeping spot)

          • Caitlin December 17, 2012, 4:55 pm

Ha. I feel like if I answer this and you don’t like my answer, I’ll get booed. 😉

    • Jackie December 15, 2012, 7:40 pm

I think it’s funny that people got so worked up over the diaper thing when Pampers has a commercial out about how their diapers keep babies dry for 12 hours.

  • Stellina @ My Yogurt Addiction.com December 14, 2012, 10:12 am

I love and read a lot of those blogs too! 🙂 J’s everyday fashion is great for fashion!

  • nicole December 14, 2012, 10:18 am

    I start every morning with:
    Healthy Tipping Point
    The Fitnessisita
    Oh She Glows
    Daily Garnish

I have learned so much from each one of them, tried new recipes, cried and laughed! Like you said, it feels like I ‘know’ each one of them, as well the new babies in the last year and a bit! I ran into some one at work who actually reads them as well, and we referred to you all by first name and chatted about you like you were our best friends, only to wish that one day we could meet you!

    Cheers!

  • Gretchen December 14, 2012, 10:31 am

Thanks for the shout-out, love!! I hope you’re enjoying the book!

Obviously you’ve been in my reader since, like, day 1. My list pretty much mimics yours, except none of the mommy blogs (for obvious reasons, hahaha) and I also need to add The Oatmeal under funny blogs. Also, I should probably add pretty much ALL THE WEDDING BLOGS… because I’m a crazy person who reads wedding blogs regularly even though I’m not engaged yet… Don’t tell my boyfriend. 😉

    • Gretchen December 14, 2012, 10:33 am

OH! And if anybody is looking for another funny blog that’s newer to the circuit, you should check out my friend Aileen’s blog: http://armypantsandflipflops.com. If the Mean Girls reference in the title isn’t enough, you should just know she’s flipping hilarious. And she’s also the editor of my book, so she’s really good at writing ‘n’ stuff.

  • Beth @ 990 Square December 14, 2012, 10:38 am

I read most of the blogs on your list. And some local baltimore blogs.

I am sad to see that there aren’t really any bloggers that aren’t “big” on your list. There are a lot of us out there, chugging along, post after post!

  • Liz @ Tip Top Shape December 14, 2012, 10:38 am

I LOVE Kendi Everyday! For a good week I would just go through all her outfits during my free time. Such fashion inspiration there!

As for food blogs I always read:

Annie’s Eats (my first blog ever!)
    ELR
    Hungry Runner Girl
    How Sweet It Is
Peas and Thank You (such beautiful writing here)

  • Tanner December 14, 2012, 11:01 am

  • Alex December 14, 2012, 9:30 pm

My favorite funny blog is The Bloggess. There are a few (OK, many) irreverent things in there, but it’s an absolute riot. Read the entry on Beyonce the metal chicken – you won’t be sorry.

    Bogs I love:

    Daily Garnish
    Crappy Pictures
    Finding Magnolia
Rage Against the Minivan (I read this occasionally)
Mommy Shorts – I love her honesty and NYC mom perspective

I also read Babble daily and found most of the blogs through that site. Not a fan of the redesign though. I can’t find posts on topics I want as easily or find new posts by my favorites (like you!).

  • Mary Nell December 15, 2012, 9:52 pm

I also love Green Lite Bites/Roni’s Weigh. The recipes are awesome, healthy and whole food, and she keeps it real for people like me who struggle to stay healthy and balance everything well in life.

  • Angela December 16, 2012, 1:08 am

We have a very similar blogroll. Funny how invested we get in people’s blogs…I love it though.
