First things first:  Thanks for all the great advice regarding our first kitty.

To answer some questions:  Pippa will be an indoor cat.  We live near a very busy road.  It’s just not safe.  We aren’t going to declaw her, and I really do need to get her some toys and scratching posts.  And like James and Maggie, she’ll eat a filler-free food – I hear wet is best from you guys! – but right now, she’s eating the same brand she was at the foster home.  I didn’t want to mix it up right away.

I’ve been trying to get a cute photo of her no-tail but it’s so hard.  Every time I approach her, she jumps over and rubs up against me!

IMG_2696

She’s having lots of fun.  I think James is, too.  I’m pretty sure he believes that we got him the cat.  Whenever he walks into the room, he BOUNCES in like, “Hey hey! Where is that cat?! YAYYYY Let me smell her. YAYYYY!”  His life just got a million times more exciting.

Henry likes her, too.  Pippa lets Henry pet her.

IMG_2525

(Henry has learned to blow bubbles; it’s funny.)

I have another question for you all.  DadHTP has kindly offered to buy us a jogging stroller for Christmas (seriously, most generous offer ever).  I was initially opposed to a jogging stroller because – to be honest – I didn’t want to bring Henry on my runs.  I see my runs as ‘me time.’  But now I realize that jogging strollers are soooo necessary for running mothers (and fathers).  I’ll be able to run even on the days that the Husband is working, and I don’t have a babysitter (AKA a lot of days), and when Kristien is home, we can all run together (which would be really nice).

I’m so confused by all the options, though.  During Saturday’s 5K, I talked to a lot of parents about their strollers (it was a stroller-friendly race), but honestly, all the models and specs and options just made my head spin.

So…  What jogging stroller should I get and why?

I love the name Pippa! I’m sure Pippa will be grateful for the lack of tail since Henry won’t be able to pull on it!

  • Kristy @ Kristy's Health Revolution November 6, 2012, 11:07 am

The only thing I worry about with wet food is the fact that it’s pretty bad for their teeth, and trust me, you do NOT want to have to brush your cat’s teeth. Plus, one of my cats has absolutely no interest in it. I give it to the other two as a treat now and again.

    • H November 6, 2012, 11:44 am

I totally agree. I used to feed my cat wet food but my vet told me to change to dry as it is better for their teeth.

      • hillary November 6, 2012, 12:45 pm

my vet said the same. Stick to only dry because of the teeth issue which is a major issue.

      • Jen November 6, 2012, 12:53 pm

Total myth – dry kibble does not benefit a cat’s teeth because they don’t chomp it long enough to have any abrasive benefit. That’s kindof like saying ripple potato chips are good for your teeth because they’re hard and you chew them, lol. My cats have been on 100% wet food for the past two years and their breath smells exactly like it did before – except now their coats are shinier and they’re both at the weight they should be at.

        • Amanda November 6, 2012, 3:01 pm

The concern isn’t the breath, it’s that wet food causes tartar to occur and remain on the teeth. This can cause gingivitis in cats which is really bad obviously.

          • Lesley T. November 6, 2012, 6:23 pm

It’s still a myth that wet food causes more dental and gum problems than dry (and pure anecdata, but my only cat to have gum problems is the cat that refuses wet food and has subsisted on dry since kittenhood).

Given the many benefits of wet food for a cat’s overall health, I think it’s a bad idea to avoid wet altogether.

These articles are worth a read:

            http://cats.about.com/cs/catfood/a/canned_food.htm

            http://www.littlebigcat.com/health/dental-care-for-cats/

‘One myth that is completely false is the notion that “dry food cleans the teeth.” The best that can be said for dry food is that it may produce slightly less tartar than canned food. Cats eating only dry food can and do develop the same dental problems as cats who “never touch the stuff.” One study showed that food itself is completely irrelevant; cats developed tartar even when fed by stomach tube, with no food passing through the mouth at all! The exceptions are Hill’s t/d® and Friskies Dental Diet®, which have very large kibbles designed to fracture so that the fragments scrape tartar off the teeth. However, the major ingredients are poor quality (by-product meal, corn gluten meal, corn meal or ground yellow corn, cellulose; Friskies even contains glycerin, a form of sugar – now, how is that good for teeth?!). Plus, these foods suffer from all the usual problems of dry food (extreme processing, high carbohydrates, low moisture). Because of the health risks associated with dry food (such as obesity, diabetes, allergies, arthritis, FLUTD, and kidney disease), we cannot recommend them as a regular diet. (See the articles in our library on dry food and teeth, pet food ingredients, and dry versus canned cat food for more information.) It is a lot easier to keep your pet’s teeth clean yourself than to give insulin shots every 12 hours for the rest of her life, or to surgically remove stones from his bladder!’

            http://www.catdr.com/PDF/Dental-Disease.pdf

‘There has been a lot of misinformation regarding canned food diets in relation to dental disease. Canned food plays a very minor role in plaque and tartar accumulation. The increased water content in canned food does not cause tooth decay. In addition, most dry food diets do not keep the teeth clean, as many people have been led to believe. Some “dental” diets may help by gently scraping the teeth but this does not compare to a thorough cleaning.’

            Thank you!

      • Alett November 6, 2012, 1:23 pm

There are many factors that come into play regarding dental health in a cat (or dog). I am a vet and I can assure you that I see A LOT of dental disease in cats that are fed dry only. I agree that brushing a cat’s teeth is a challenge!

        🙂

    • Vicky (Little Baby, Big City) November 6, 2012, 4:10 pm

I’m with you about wet food being bad for ther teeth…. And brush her teeth, denials are expensive!

      • Vicky (Little Baby, Big City) November 6, 2012, 4:16 pm

        Dentals….not denials

        • Carly November 7, 2012, 4:56 am

It saddens me that your cats are being fed kibble through complete misunderstanding. Any ideas about dry food being beneficial to a cat’s dental health have now been dispelled as nonsense. Cats are carnivores and as such should be eating meat – as they would in the wild. Dry food should be a very occasional treat, if at all. I’d urge anyone who feeds their cat only dry food to really look into the long term health issues that this will cause!

  • Carolinagal November 6, 2012, 11:08 am

I like the Joovy Zoom 360. I did lots of research before buying, and found the Joovy to be a great (less-expensive-than-Bob) option. It has the option of locking the front wheel to help you stay straight, or letting it rotate for turns or walking. You do get a good workout with a jogging stroller – an extra 10 lbs of stroller plus a toddler builds some muscle!

    • Carolinagal November 6, 2012, 11:11 am

Also, the sun shade is amazing on the Joovy

      • Ashley November 6, 2012, 12:10 pm

Another vote for the Joovy Zoom! Love mine!

        • Jennifer November 6, 2012, 10:00 pm

Another Joovy Zoom vote! I loved that the wheel could lock or not lock. It’s super easy to fold up and unfold. I also got it because I have big kids and the interior is HUGE compared to other jogging strollers. My 46″ four year old can still fit inside (those he’s a little cramped)! It’s a great stroller with a really smooth ride.

  • Laine November 6, 2012, 11:08 am

You don’t have toys and scratching posts for her yet? Poor kitty! I remember when I was thinking of adopting my cat, I made sure my house was stocked with stuff for her before I brought her home. Amazon Prime is a great way to get this stuff quickly and with minimal hassle.

    • Caitlin November 6, 2012, 11:28 am

      I hardly think she’s suffering….

      • Kristin November 6, 2012, 12:51 pm

she might be like our kitty, who hates those things – plus they are expensive. I wish our cat liked the more JUST because he is not declawed either and he took to our couch quickly and scratched it up on the bottom part. Oy!

        • Christina November 6, 2012, 4:00 pm

Our cat was the same way! I bought her a scratcher and she just clawed the rug. So I put her scratcher over the rug in the place she loved to claw the most, and lo and behold started scratching the scratcher instead! A small victory. Probably won’t work with every cat though.

      • KA November 6, 2012, 1:44 pm

My cat is the same way as Kristin’s. He likes new toys for about 5 minutes and then quickly loses interest. We bought him 2 scratching posts and a TON of toys when we first brought him home, and he rarely uses them.

What he DOES love are: cardboard boxes, old toilet paper tubes, paper bags, and hair ties (hair fubbies? ;-)). So who knows — maybe you’ll be able to save a whole lot of $$ and just entertain her with things you already have lying around!

      • Jen November 6, 2012, 1:47 pm

My cats have a million toys and scratching posts and they still prefer shoelaces, balls of paper, and cardboard boxes. Cats are easy to entertain if you put a minimal amount of thought into it.

        • Lauren @ Sweet and Twisted November 6, 2012, 10:03 pm

Agreed! Toilet paper tubes and hair ties are popular around here! Although if I could recommend one toy it would be Da Bird brand feather bird toy. Our cats go CRAZY over it. We store it in a cabinet in the dining room and if you so much as step in the room they run over to the cabinet hoping they get to “play bird.”

    • Katie November 6, 2012, 1:30 pm

This is a ridiculous comment. Cats in the wild (or in THOUSANDS of people’s homes) don’t have scratching posts and sweater vests and they are more than fine. Most cats prefer paper bags anyways.

  • Heather November 6, 2012, 11:09 am

I like the bob. It’s a light, easy to control jogging stroller, but also let’s you unlock the wheel for non running times or, my fave, after a race when you are trying to dodge all the people and barricades to get post race food! It’s also super compact an fits in my tiny trunk no problem. Love the bob!!

    • Alli November 6, 2012, 12:03 pm

Agree! I love my bob revolution! I was able to get it for a great price on Craigslist. Most people sell their single when they have to get a double 🙂 the revolution is the one with a swivel/lockable wheel. The sunshade is great and the shock absorbency is amazing! I use mine as my everyday stroller and only wish I had the paret consol attachment for drinks and such.

      • Kate November 9, 2012, 8:54 am

LOVE my BOBs . I have the single revolution (the revo is a must b/c of the rotating front wheel) and I have the Duallie. The carseat adapter is also a must — you can leave them on and use to hang toys and it has a tray (after the baby has outgrown the carseat). Best running stroller out there.

  • Becky November 6, 2012, 11:09 am

I’m so interested in people’s responses for this one! No baby yet, but I know that I’m going to be a mom who runs with their baby, I just know it! I already ask other mom’s how long they can go running before the baby gets fussy, etc.

    • Katie November 6, 2012, 1:41 pm

Me too Becky! I’m not even married but have a brother who uses a wheelchair, so I like to look into whats out there.

  • Jen November 6, 2012, 11:09 am

Get the BOB Revolution – it’s the BEST. The wheel can rotate or lock in place…

  • Sarah November 6, 2012, 11:11 am

the BOB Revolution! It’s pricey but SO worth it — I was late to the party and actually got mine when Julian was 14 months. Assuming the specific brand didn’t matter, I had gotten a different brand for $30 at a yard sale. For most big toys, bouncers, etc., I’d say brands don’t matter, but strollers are different. The BOB is amazing not just for running, but also walks (the front wheel locks in either a straight or swivel, depending on what you want). It’s a breeze to maneuver (I’m 35+ weeks and still walking with it!) and folds up super easily. Definitely check Craigslist — and if you don’t have luck there, I got mine for a decent price on amazon (LOVE amazon:).

    • Marlène November 6, 2012, 12:00 pm

I agree. BOB Revolution is the best. When I first got mine, it felt awkward and I thought I had made a mistake, but then I tried a friend’s jogging stroller (different brand), and it was SO MUCH HARDER to maneouvre. Like to the point where I couldn’t run with it. It made me appreciate my BOB so much more. The handling, the baby support, the ease of pushing. Now I actually look forward to runs with my baby, and will take him even when I have the option to go solo.

Just be prepared to feel awkward at first (with whatever brand you decide on).

  • Elisabeth November 6, 2012, 11:14 am

LOVE that picture of H blowing bubbles 😀

  • julia November 6, 2012, 11:15 am

That pic of Henry is too much! So cute. His personality is coming out more in all of your photos.

  • Katie @ Talk Less, Say More November 6, 2012, 11:20 am

I can’t help with the jogging stroller, but as far as Miss Pippa and changing her food. You may already know this having dogs, but it is suggested that you slowly introduce the new food into her diet to avoid stomach upset.

  • Casper November 6, 2012, 11:22 am

I have a Bob Revolution and would highly recommend it. We use it for everything, runs, walks to the park, and trips to Disney World. Having the stroller allowed my husband and I to go for long runs together on the weekends. Now that we have twins on the way, I am trying to find a used double Bob.

  • Erin November 6, 2012, 11:22 am

You already have a City Mini, right? Then I would go with Bob Ironman. I have a Revolution, and it isn’t weighted the best for running with the wheel fixed. The Ironman is weighted slightly more to the rear, so it is easier to turn (than Rev when the wheel is fixed). Also, the Runners World forums have quite a few reviews and tips on jogging strollers.

    • michelle November 6, 2012, 12:01 pm

I agree – for the exact same reasons. I LOVE my BOB Revolution, but if I already had a pretty good all purpose stroller I would go with the BOB Ironman in a heartbeat… I’m a pretty slow “runner” (especially while pushing a 2.5 year old!) so it’s not as big of a deal for me because I can often even get away with “running” without the front wheel locked – see, told you I was S-L-O-W, but my husband has issues with the steering while running since he has to have the wheel locked – it makes it an upper body workout too, and not in a good way…

We pushed our friend’s ironman recently and had total stroller envy.

    • Jessica November 6, 2012, 8:53 pm

Totally agree! I have a city mini and a BOB Ironman that I found new on eBay. The front wheel is fixed so it’s not great for everyday but it’s lighter than the revolution and the fixed wheel is supposedly safer for running with a little one. Good luck!

  • Katie @ Peace Love & Oats November 6, 2012, 11:22 am

Hahahaha I love that James loves Pippa! That is too cute!

  • stephanie November 6, 2012, 11:24 am

Love the pic of Pippa chowing down on top of the toilet – hilarious!!

  • Nicole November 6, 2012, 11:35 am

Bob Revolution glides beautifully, packs up so nicely, weighs nothing and holds itty bitty up to big kid’s weight. We love it!!

  • Jen November 6, 2012, 11:36 am

This isn’t about jogging strollers, but I wanted to let you know that wet food is NOT the best food for cats. It’s really bad for their teeth – their teeth will grow more bacteria and will decay faster on a wet-food-only diet. I would talk to your vet about it, they will know best. But I highly recommend NOT feeding her wet food only!

    • Caitlin November 6, 2012, 11:39 am

Really? Ok. I will talk to our vet.

      • Elsie November 6, 2012, 12:04 pm

wet food is actually the best for cats as cats don’t naturally seek water so they get most of their water from their food (wet cat food has more water than kibble). The widely believed idea that kibble “cleans” dog and cat teeth has been proven wrong as kibble actually leaves more sugars/debris on a pet’s tooth which causing a quicker decay. I own a pet supplies store in Pittsburgh- Petagogy. Here is a decent article on the issue: http://www.petmd.com/cat/nutrition/evr_ct_feeding_your_cat?page=2

for stroller- Bob Revolution is worth every painful penny (super expensive) Its great for trails, crappy sidewalks, walking/jobbing, crowds, etc. We love it (have a 4month old)

      • Jen November 6, 2012, 12:56 pm

Two excellent sites/resources on this topic (and on kitty care in general): http://www.littlebigcat.com/health/does-dry-food-clean-the-teeth/ and http://www.catinfo.org/ (scroll down to the dental disease section).

      • Heather B November 6, 2012, 2:10 pm

I have a friend who works in a cats only vet clinic, and they recommend dry food with supplemental wet food. I have 4 cats, ages 9-11, and I have been feeding them a mostly dry food diet, with occasional wet food (about 3 times a week) and they are all healthy. I feel that incorporating both is a good middle ground 🙂 BTW, Pippa is totes adorbs!

    • Jamie November 6, 2012, 12:46 pm

Agreed. Cats prefer wet food, which is probably why people suggested it but so do dogs and the same issue is present…wet food promotes tooth and gum decay. Jen is right, your vet will know best! Pippa is beautiful and I’m so glad she found a happy forever home 🙂

      • Reenie November 6, 2012, 1:27 pm

I think it totally depends on the cat. Chubbs, who is 17 now, used to never eat wet food… she’d smell it and walk away. She has only started eating it within the last year or so, and I don’t believe it’s because of her age, or teeth situation, because she still has all her teeth (except 2 that were recently pulled).

I think you’ll get lots of different answers/solutions/suggestions depending on what each person was told from “their” vet.

You’ll find what’s best for Pippa….. or Pip will let you know herself 😉

    • Margaret November 6, 2012, 4:33 pm

Please do research in addition to just talking to your vet – think about conventional doctors and how much they generally know about human nutrition – i.e., not much. And how much they can be influenced by pharmaceutical companies. Same thing with vets – they’re taught conventional ideas, that like with human health change over time as to what is best, and they’re influenced by large companies with products to sell. My vet is a naturopathic vet, and she recommends raw food, or at least wet food.

      • Lauren @ Sweet and Twisted November 6, 2012, 10:09 pm

        Couldn’t agree more!
What would wild cats eat? “Wet” food with no grains. I actually feed our cats a mix because they love dry so much (we use Merrick’s Before Grain because I think it is a good value) and my husband prefers to feed them dry but I prefer they eat wet!

  • Sara November 6, 2012, 11:38 am

I don’t have kids, but I’m an aunt. My sis has the BOB Revolution and I love it. It has been so easy to go on runs with my niece- at 8 weeks old or at 18 months. Plus, it is SUPER easy to fold up and open.

  • Stephanie November 6, 2012, 11:39 am

We have a Bob Revolution, and while my daughter is only 8 weeks, so no running with it yet, I have tested it on flat/smooth roads and we walk with her in it and it is truly awesome – worth the price I think for something you will use often and for quite a while.
    Congrats on the new kitty!

  • vsk November 6, 2012, 11:43 am

We haven’t bought one yet, but after a lot of time scouring the internet, I think this article highlights the best options and makes some good points about what to think about.
    http://www.runningtimes.com/Article.aspx?ArticleID=17619&PageNum=3

Since it will be a gift you may want a brand new one, but it’s worthwhile to check Craigslist. I live in the DC area and frequently see Mountain Buggies and BOBs on CL.

  • Hayley November 6, 2012, 11:44 am

Definitely a Bob! I had a cheaper jogging stroller for my first son, but splurged on a double bob when I had my second. Best investment ever! My boys are comfy and it’s so easy to maneuver. Added bonus – because it was a big investment, it definitely motivated me to use it more often 😉

  • Vicki November 6, 2012, 11:45 am

We got a fixed wheel jogging stroller but haven’t had a chance to use it yet (it’s a Dreamer Design – not made anymore, bought it used). Anyway, I got a fixed wheel because the reviews I read commented that the lockable wheels (like the Revolution) can tend to “track” left or right and not stay straight. This annoys me with shopping carts, so I figured it would annoy me with our stroller too!

Fixed wheel or lockable wheel – I think it depends on what you plan on using it for. It sounds like you’ll use it strictly for running (since you already have the City Mini), in which case the fixed wheel might be the best bet for you. Yes, it’s harder to turn, but typically when you’re running you’re not turning sharp corners, so it doesn’t matter as much. Just my $.02

Bob Ironman would have been my pick if I were buying new. Baby Jogger also has a decent fixed wheel, but it’s about the same price as the Bob. if you’re Craigslisting, though, you’ll mostly find Revolutions or Schwinns (or other not-so-nice brands). From my experience the Bob fixed wheels didn’t pop up as often.

  • Kate November 6, 2012, 11:46 am

I had a baby girl 5 days before Henry and have been stroller running with her since 6weeks. I did a TON of research, and now own a used Chariot Cougar and a used BoB Revolution CE. I prefer the Chariot for jogging and it turns better with a fixed wheel than the Bob. But the Bob is certainly easier to fold up, and can manoeuvre in tight spaces. If you already own a City Mini, I would definitely find a (used) jogging specific stroller. I have heard great things about the Bob Ironman.
    Hopefully this helps!

    • K November 6, 2012, 1:15 pm

I don’t know if its less popular in the States, but here in Canada, the Chariot is the gold standard for running/multi sport parents. We bought ours used on Kijiji and have a jogging wheel, and xcountry ski conversion kit. Caitlin, this is an amazing choice for tri training because you can also buy the bike kit and pull it behind your road bike! Like the mountain buggy, the chariot has killer off roaming tires and phenomenal suspension. I am a total cheap ass, and I would absolutely splurge on one again! We only have one bambino, but we bought the double because we anticipate some additional kidlets, but in the meantime, baby just sits contentedly among the bounty of our market shopping! Lastly, you can purchase an infant sling that allows you to jog with even a teeny, tiny baby. So, yeah, another vote for the Chariot Cougar (and if money is no object, the Chariot CTX is a very nice option too)!

      • Cindi November 6, 2012, 1:42 pm

We have a Cougar chariot & LOVE it! Molly is super comfy in there on long bike rides, and I just bought the jogging wheel for it, can’t wait to try it out!

      • vsk November 6, 2012, 1:49 pm

Cross country conversion kit!!! That’s awesome!

        • Clare November 6, 2012, 2:23 pm

We had a double Chariot. I used it for all three of my kids over a span of 8 years and it was the best money we ever spent on “baby equipment”. I used it for running, trekking through rain and snow and shopping . We even got quite a good price for it when we sold it on Kijiji. I agree with the poster above; I’d go for the double right from the beginning if you’re planning more babies…you can adjust the harnesses to the middle position if you’re just using it for one.

  • Erin November 6, 2012, 11:46 am

    BOB Revolution….it’s just the best.

  • Merry November 6, 2012, 11:47 am

I’ve recently just purchased both a BOB duallie revolution and ironman to compare for myself. If you’re looking for jogging/running only, go with the ironman. It’s a little lighter and smoother, and has a handbrake for hills. It’s also apparently better for running faster speeds – like sub 9s. Since I’m not breaking any speed records postpartum, and I wanted max flexibility out of the stroller for walks and other outings, I’ve decided to keep the revolution. (and to be honest, seeing that other mama blogger runners had the revolution helped my decision too!) The swivel wheel is awesome, and even the duallie turns on a dime, it’s kind of crazy. The other advantage of the swivel wheel is that it can rotate down when you fold it, which makes it more compact without taking the wheels off. I can’t speak for other brands, but the BOB cam wheel system makes it super easy to take the wheels on and off if you need to as well. And the seats and restraints are super adjustable and really hold the kids in well, even from a young age – I feel very safe with my 3.5 month old twins in there. The employees at REI were super helpful when I was making my decision, and they’ll unpack anything they don’t have on display for you too.

  • Lea @ Greens and Coffee Beans November 6, 2012, 11:57 am

If you ever need a filler-free dry food, Blue Buffalo is makes a great one, I used to work at PetSmart and we always recommended that to customers. And as for scratching posts my cats LOVE the cardboard ones, and they’re a lot cheaper and smaller.

  • Courtney Leigh November 6, 2012, 12:01 pm

Could you got to a place the sells them and try and run up and down the aisles with some possibilities? One just might feel better to you after all.

  • Regina November 6, 2012, 12:01 pm

I HIGHLY recommend the BOB Revolution stroller. It’s incredible! Our son is 2.5 months old and we’ve run with him in it (with the infant adapter of course) since he was 3 weeks old. He LOVES it, it’s incredibly smooth, easy to turn (I mean REALLY easy to turn), so easy to handle, comes with an easy emergency break that you can pull to quickly stop the stroller cold if you trip, fall, lose control, etc. It’s awesome! We love it times infinity. The only thing that I have to admit is a bit stinky about it is that it is large and it only folds in half long ways then you have to remove the wheels (which is incredibly easy) to fit in a trunk. If you don’t have a big trunk though it may not fit.

I have the Bob Ironman and I love it. It is super light and I ran with my son in it since he was four months old (with the pediatrician’s ok ) with the car seat attachment. It is really only appropriate for jogging/running because the front wheel does not swivel, but if you have another stroller for errands and such, I don’t think it matters. I got mine a few months ago from Amazon for $329. I know a lot of people hold back because of the price, but if you put it into perspective, it really isn’t THAT much if you were previously committed to the sport of running and want to run with your child because the stroller will grow with them. I think about all the hundreds I’ve spent on race entries, running gear, shoes, etc and the price of the stroller really does pale in comparison.

  • Beks November 6, 2012, 12:13 pm

James thinking Pippa is his cat reminded me of the pilot of the show “Dharma and Greg,” where Dharma brings Greg home to meet her family, and introduces her dogs as “This is Stinky, and this is Stinky’s dog, Nunzio! He wanted a pet, but none of the responsibility.”

When I was a kid, we had two cats, and fed them wet food. One of them had a badly rotten tooth (and was older than God), and with our new round of kitties, we feed them dry, which seems to be better for at least two of them (my kitty has constant upset stomachs).

  • Julia November 6, 2012, 12:21 pm

My cat eats Blue by the Blue Buffalo Company, per vet recommendations. It seems a bit expensive because a bag is around 20 dollars, but a full size cat only eats about half a cup a day so a bag last for a long time.

  • Maria November 6, 2012, 12:22 pm

The picture of Henry is adorable. I cant believe how big he is already.
Pippa is beautiful. Maggie is still the most adorable fur baby. I just love her.

  • deva at deva by definition November 6, 2012, 12:23 pm

Our cats get wet food 1x a day and get dry food the rest of the time for dental health. One of our cats gets extra wet food (it’s prescription) in the evening.

As for scratchers, we have a vertical one and lots of horizontal ones on the floor made of corrugated cardboard. They have to be replaced about every month or so, so we pick up more when we go to buy more petfood. Our cats LOVE the horizontal scratchers and use the vertical one for streeeeeeetching. 🙂

Have I mentioned how adorable pippa is? I love her coloring.

  • Meghan November 6, 2012, 12:27 pm

I have the BOB revolution which has been great for many of the reasons others have explained. My only complaint is the lack of handbrakes for hills. Of hills are something you’ll encounter often, you should possibly look into a different model.

  • Amanda K. November 6, 2012, 12:33 pm

my son LOVES our cat, too. he’s 14 months and his favorite thing is to just lay on him and hug him.

we have the BOB revolution and we love it. it’s light (in jogging stroller terms) and easy to maneuver.
we also really wanted the option to unlock the wheel, and remove the wheels.
it’s the only stroller we have and i use it every single day (we walk errands a lot, and for running, too) and we really enjoy it.

  • Kellie November 6, 2012, 12:36 pm

Bob revolution. It’s sooo easy to push, glides smoothly, rotating front wheel with option to lock (which I never do) and has great resell value. 🙂

  • Emily November 6, 2012, 12:44 pm

Bob Revolution (you want the free wheel option for walks or slower runs)!!!! I have a double for my twins who are now 4.5 years old and we still use it for outings like the zoo , walks to the playground, and runs (though at their age I’m pushing 75 pounds of children, not counting the stroller!). Hands down the BOB was the best baby purchase we made. It was also fun running with them when they were just starting to talk. They were my cheerleaders and said things like, “go go go mommy!” and “Faster!!”. They loved the ride.

  • Morgan November 6, 2012, 12:46 pm

I have the joovy zoom 360. We have a love hate relationship. I love the sunshade, but the front wheel on mine shakes, and no matter what fix I try it will not stop. It shakes anytime I get going faster than a ten minute mile and is almost uncontrollable. I have contacted the company and they have given me ideas to fix it but nothing works. I do like that it came with all of the necessary accessories (rain cover, wheel pump etc). If I had realized how much I would enjoy running (I was not a runner prior to having my daughter) I would have bought the BOB revolution. I sort of regret my decision every morning.

  • Kristi November 6, 2012, 12:50 pm

We got the BOB revolution. Can’t comment yet on performance but I would definitely recommend buying it at REI. We got ours on 20% sale with free handlebar console and play tray. I can’t imagine ever having to return it but REI has amazing customer service which won me out over Amazon since its such a big purchase (literally!).

  • nicole November 6, 2012, 12:54 pm

I have a BOB revolution and a Chariot. I would HIGHLY recommend getting the BOB. It is such a smooth ride, the front tire swivels which is the biggest benefit in my opinion. It folds up so much easier than the Chariot. Comfortable seats, large sun visor. Love love love the BOB!

  • Lauren C November 6, 2012, 12:57 pm

We have the baby jogger summit and LOVE it. We have the city mini as well…. Both have been great purchases!

    • Louise November 7, 2012, 3:29 am

Same here. Bought the Summit first for running and everyday and then the city mini when I realised it was a little large for every day lifting in and out of car. I love both. Summit steers well, handbrake is handy and if you already have a baby jogger t hen accessories fit both generally. Good shade and storage. We don’t have BOB in Australia but the Summit seemed quite comparable in my research.

  • Brittany November 6, 2012, 12:58 pm

Is Pippa a Manx cat? I’m very curious becuse I have a Manx and i dont know anyone else who does so I was a little suprised to see your taill-less cat. I love my Manx I think they’re a wonderful breed of cat!

    • Caitlin November 6, 2012, 1:12 pm

      I think she’s a Japanese bobtail!

  • Amy November 6, 2012, 1:00 pm

We have the Bob Revolution Duallie and it’s the best. We run a ton with it….always with the wheel unlocked and have never had any problems with steering or stability. It’s super easy to run with even when holding it one handed. Plus, like others said, it’s great for zoo, vacations, pretty much anywhere. We have a minivan and have no problem with it in the trunk….but I imagine it would be giant in a small car?

Anyway, I don’t think you would be dissatisfied with any of the Bobs.

  • Michelle S November 6, 2012, 1:00 pm

I love love LOVED our BOB jogging stroller. It was a practically new hand-me-down from a friend and turned out to be a complete blessing. It was great on the road and great on a track. I probably let my son ride in it longer than I should have, but it was great to have him ride along while I met friends for a late evening walking group. He’s 7 now, but it is one of the only items that I’ve kept for “just in case” we have another baby.

  • Lexy November 6, 2012, 1:02 pm

You’ll also want to take care when switching foods – it’s not great for cats to suddenly move from one type of food to another (it can cause gastro distress and vomiting, and as they are picky eaters they may just decide to not eat….this is dangerous, as cats can develop hepatic lipidosis fairly quickly if they stop eating for any reason, even if only a few days). Our vet always recommended mixing the new food with the old, gradually adding more new over the course of at least a couple of weeks. And I agree on the dry vs. wet food – I’ve had a few cats over the years, and found dry was always the better choice. Their teeth will thank you!

  • Andrea November 6, 2012, 1:05 pm

Do you plan on biking with Henry when he’s a little bit older? My hubby (who is an avid cyclist) and I (who likes to run) are thinking about getting a bike trailer that converts into a jogging stroller and regular stroller. Like you, we already have a decent stroller for walks and going out, that I can’t fathom spending $$$ on a bike trailer AND a jogging stroller. The nice thing about bike trailers is that almost all of them are built for one or two kids so no need to upgrade when #2 comes along. Just a thought 🙂

  • Sandra November 6, 2012, 1:09 pm

Sorry, no good advice here. But, as regular blog reader – I wanted to let you know that I was really pumped when I saw you listed in Runner’s World Dec. issue as someone to follow on Twitter. Congrats!!

    • Caitlin November 6, 2012, 1:19 pm

      Thanks 🙂

  • Allison November 6, 2012, 1:16 pm

BOB Revolution here too. Have a older single and the newer double and both are super.

  • Christie November 6, 2012, 1:27 pm

I felt the same way about my runs- that they were my ‘me time’. Most of them still are, but having a running stroller has been a huge benefit to us (it’s great having the option to use it when in a bind).

I was lucky enough to have my sister and sister-in-law each give us their double running strollers (baby #2 on the way). It’s been fun testing them out and comparing, especially since I think I prefer the one I didn’t expect to (so many people rave non-stop about the BOBs but I think I prefer the InStep Safari Swivel). *Side note recommendation: we leave the front wheel locked when running, or else it’ll shake like crazy as you pick up speed.

Knowing that you have so many friends that are runners with little ones, I would highly suggest asking if you could stop by to test theirs out. Everyone has their own opinions, so testing out your options first hand to make your own decision might be best in the long run. You certainly don’t want to end up with one you don’t like.

    Best of luck!

  • marci November 6, 2012, 1:28 pm

Agree with Bob Rev. It’s heavy though and I wouldn’t travel with it. That’s what the City Mini is for. But everyone has one, so obviously that’s why. I also think exercise walks/runs are just for me and use it mostly to walk the dog with baby, walk to park, etc. I like our orange color!

  • Jen November 6, 2012, 1:36 pm

Cute kitty! Kitty is the new word my almost 11 month old son is saying! We bought the BOB evolution after careful consideration. We love it. It’s actually been extremely practical for everyday use for us. I do use it occasionally for a 3-4 mile run with my son, but I prefer to run on my own as my “me time”. And I doubt that my son could handle anything more, so training with it is kind of out for me. It breaks down really easily so it’s been great for air travel ( gate check it) – even when I’ve taken my son to visit family when Daddy can’t come along. Pair it with a carrier of some kind and you are good to go. I bought the cup holder thingy that has a little pouch (think like a SPI belt for a stroller, lol) to zip up little paci’s or money or keys and hold a water bottle while you run. I also used it for shopping before my son was big enough to ride in the cart. Best of luck on your search! Oh, and you can totally find these on Craigslist, but we noticed people wanted almost retail for used ones ( huh?) so we went ahead and bought a new one. Easily in the top 5 best baby purchases thus far.

  • Grace @ Grace Dishes November 6, 2012, 1:37 pm

I have no idea what jogging stroller is good. I do see a lot of stroller mommies where I live and I get so inspired!

What an adorable picture of Henry!

  • Katie November 6, 2012, 1:44 pm

We have an Uppababy and a BOB stroller. I am obsessed with the BOB! It is so smooth. $400 = a hefty price tag, but it is unbelievely worth it.

  • Katie November 6, 2012, 1:50 pm

I love my Bob Revolution. I used it for long walks and now that my baby is nearing 5 months I’ve been running with her and the stroller is fabulous – light and easy to push. My only complaint is that you have to buy the “extras” like a snack tray for baby and a drink/key holder for you. But those aren’t absolutely necessary for you or the baby.

I have two Siamese cats and I agree with some other posts that wet food is not the best way to go. We feed our cats Blue Buffalo. As far as toys go our cats love an empty box more than anything 🙂

  • Jolene (Homespun Heritage) November 6, 2012, 2:01 pm

BOB anything simply because they are the best!

  • Aerevyn November 6, 2012, 2:10 pm

    For Pippa …

Look up Soft Paws kitty nail caps.

It’s a great way to prevent your cat from scratching furniture. Unless Pippa is really fiddly about you touching her feet, it’s an easy and pain free way to protect your furniture … and they look really cute!

  • Brandy November 6, 2012, 2:16 pm

I started out with an InStep Strider. It was rough, very rough. I finally broke it running across a huge bridge and thankfully, it couldn’t be fixed. I borrowed a Joovy 360 Zoom for a 5K and it was awesome. I could not believe the difference it made in my running (all my runs are with my two year old)! I’ve also tried out the Bob and it was awesome. But for the price and the huge sunshade, the Joovy won out. I picked it up for less than $100 on craigslist and have been so happy with it.

  • liz November 6, 2012, 2:19 pm

Get the BOB Revolution. I have the double, but I’m sure the single is equally great or better. It’s the Caddy of strollers. Seriously, it goes by itself! Good luck!

  • Angie November 6, 2012, 2:20 pm

I got the BOB Ironman because I was concerned about the issues I read about with the lockable wheels not locking perfectly or listing to one side or the other. And I LOVE the Ironman. For a jog stroller, relatively light and easy to push. The use I got out of it in the first year more than made up for the price tag!

For the mall or just a short walk, we take our joovy groove umbrella stroller.

  • Jo Ann November 6, 2012, 2:21 pm

Dry food only for your kitty so that her teeth will last a lifetime. My husband is a veterinarian and that is all he recommends unless the cat has no teeth and cannot chew. Since cats don’t brush their teeth, they need the chewing action provided by dry food to help clean their teeth. Poor dental health in cats leads to so many horrible problems such as gum disease which can then lead to kidney and heart problems

  • C November 6, 2012, 2:32 pm

Hi! I’ve been a reader for the past few months and love your bob as i have a now 19 month son and deal alot with what you are going thru( trying to live a healthy balance lifestyle while working full time and trying to be the best mommy/ wife I can be.)

This is my first time responding and I have to say the jogging stroller is super important. I have the BOB revolution. And LOVE it! My only regret is I didn’t get it sooner. I wish I would have had it from the beginning. It’s soo easy to push, very easy to run with, great to maneuver when I take my 100+ pound dog running with me and isn’t that heavy. This is the first stroller my son seems actually comfortable in. Definitely don’t buy at the big chain stores. I was able to get mine off amazon for about $100 less ( my work friends had luck with Craigslist) I bought the jolly cup holder which fits perfect and works well on run ($12) oh and to be honest I thought I wanted to run alone but realistically taking my son sometimes is the only option and it makes me feel better to get out and he likes the ride plus the quick park trip at the end

I did months of research trying to find if there was any better alternative and I really couldn’t and I’m soo glad I have it. ( oh yea the ability to lock/ unlock the wheel is essential. I couldn’t understand until I went running .., unlock wheel makes it go all over the place. Locked really helps run straight, however walking the unlock wheel is essential for making turns etc).

Sorry for being long winded this is just a topic I’m super into and wish I would have had the info

    • Caitlin November 6, 2012, 3:36 pm

Thanks so much 🙂 This is helpful.

  • Shannon November 6, 2012, 2:34 pm

No question, the BOB revolution! It’s our go to stroller and we have an umbrella too. I trained for a half marathon with my daughter and would do 10 miles and she never fussed. She’s 2 1/2 and has always been great in it. Plus, it has great resale value! My sister sold hers for almost the purchase price. We are buying the duallie for our second baby girl due in January.

Worth the money and the accessories! We didn’t want to only have a fixed wheel because we u it for everything!

  • Morgan November 6, 2012, 2:38 pm

We have the BOB Revolution. It’s awesome. It’s pretty much effortless to push, which is great for both mom and babe, it’s easy to fold up to take in the car or even on a plane…and for me, one of the most important features was an awesome sun shade for the baby. I’m a freak about her getting any sun on her. This shade is pretty impressive. I haven’t seen another one that compares.

  • Susan November 6, 2012, 2:44 pm

Really???? Pippa is eating on top of the toilet? Why?

    • Caitlin November 6, 2012, 3:36 pm

So the dogs don’t get to her food!

      • Brittney November 7, 2012, 1:11 pm

Haha, you crack me up 🙂

  • Morgan November 6, 2012, 2:46 pm

Also, The BOB has a flat top to the sunshade, which is the perfect spot to put an ipod, phone, etc. I used the Couch 2 5K app on my phone and would just leave the phone on top of the sun shade so I could see when the next run/walk interval would start.

  • Caitlin Shaw Henig November 6, 2012, 2:50 pm

I loved our single Bob Revolution stroller! Once we got that it was our only stroller for running, walking, hiking, errands, whatever. I love the rotating front wheel (and having the option to lock it if necessary is nice) and that we only had one stroller.

One thing that might be nice about something like Phil & Ted’s tandem stroller is that if you have a second child, you don’t need a new stroller. We got a Bob duallie (side by side double) and it is a beast for day to day use, so we ended up getting a second stroller (FYI, my mom bought all of our strollers for us; she is our kid transport fairy grandmother!)

  • Claire November 6, 2012, 2:52 pm

You want a BOB stroller! I love love love mine. Coincidentally, pretty much all my friends have one too, so I know I am not alone in my love for the BOB. What’s to love about it? Let’s see: it collapses easily (one-handedly!), it has an optional adaptor for carseats (for tiny babies, but henry could ride in it normally if he can sit up pretty well), you can get a plastic cover for winter, and fuzzy warm cushion for the inside, the front wheel locks in place for serious jogging or can be free moving for just walking, it has pockets and a little tray table for older kids snacks, and the handlebar is cushy, fits many diaper bags, and has a zipper pockets and two cup holders. YES, it is pricey, but check craigslist. I have never met a BOB owner who doesnt love it.
    Good luck! 🙂

  • Julianna @ Julianna Bananna November 6, 2012, 2:54 pm

    Pippa is so adorable!!
we have a cat scratcher that has catnip in it (i think it’s called the cat lounge or something like that!?) at my house, which has kept the cats from clawing the furniture because they love the scratcher box so much!

  • Mandy November 6, 2012, 3:16 pm

I subscribe to this newsletter – natural health news for pets, and it has articles about healthy pet foods and many other pet-related health issues http://healthypets.mercola.com/sites/healthypets/archive/2012/05/25/wet-cat-food-diet.aspx

Also, kitties don’t like to get their water where they eat their food, hence kitty drinking from your glass, the toilet, or a faucet.

    • Mandy November 6, 2012, 3:17 pm

Why not feed Pippa both? Dry crunchies whenever she pleases and wet food for the nutrients? I don’t know if both are recommended, but sounds like a good option.

  • Brianne November 6, 2012, 3:28 pm

That picture of henry is the CUTEST!

  • Bobbie November 6, 2012, 3:58 pm

I loved my BOB stroller! I loved it even for non-jogging outings b/c the thing literally can steer with a finger it’s so smooth and light. Good luck with your decision.!

  • Vicky (Little Baby, Big City) November 6, 2012, 4:18 pm

We have the Mountain Buggy terrain…. Love that it has a brake, hate the price. Bobs are nice too.

  • Kari @ Human, MD November 6, 2012, 4:22 pm

This has nothing to do with jogging strollers…. more to do with cat food. My cat has to have wet food because otherwise he gets UTIs. But the vet said eating wet food only is like eating oatmeal all the time and never brushing your teeth… gross. So she recommended also feeding him dry food.

  • lea November 6, 2012, 4:24 pm

Bob totally. I have the double edition and the handling is incredible, even with 2 heavy kids it maneuvers incredibly easy even one-handed. Great construction and quality too, Worth the price. We got out secondhand and it still wasn’t cheap, but it’s held up great. So also to consider, if you buy new you could resell it for a good price if you keep it pretty clean.

  • Carolyn November 6, 2012, 4:37 pm

I have an older BOB that I bought used that has a fixed wheel. I really like it for running, but not for taking walks. It’s kind of a pain to turn since the wheel is fixed all the time. We have a City Mini that I use for walks and taking in the car. I drive a Civic and I can just barely fit the BOB in my truck if I take the front wheel off, so I wouldn’t want to be taking it in and out of the car everyday, but for occasional trips, it’s nice. I think the fixed wheel BOB is great for neighborhood runs, but I’m glad I also have the City Mini.

  • Axel November 6, 2012, 4:38 pm

Count me in with the Chariot Cougar fans. It definitely supports the multi-sport lifestyle. The adjustable suspension system, the room for baby/toddler to wear a helmet (while cycling), and the generally high quality of materials and design are all big pluses.

Here’s the website: http://www.chariotcarriers.com and I give my own overview here: http://ironrogue.blogspot.ca/2011/09/triathlon-training-vs-family-or.html

  • Samantha @ Mama Notes November 6, 2012, 4:41 pm

BOB Revolution for sure!!! I love mine SO much! It’s great for runners/walkers.

  • Laura November 6, 2012, 4:54 pm

I have no advice on a jogging stroller (that’s an awesome gift though!), but I have to say you’ve been so gracious with all the kitty advice :). I went back and looked and you had received so much earnest, well-intentioned but slightly forceful advice from all of us, it must seem a little overwhelming to sift through all of it! And we’re all so sure we’re right (me included). I’m glad you can take it all in stride.

I can’t wait to see more Henry-animal interactions as he gets older. It’s wonderful to see how much he loves them! I had the same fascination with animals as a child and it’s only gotten stronger 🙂

  • Jill Will Run November 6, 2012, 5:10 pm

I got the BOB Revolution right out of the gates when I found out I was expecting. I chose that one because of the option of locking the front wheel. I hear that having it locked is better for running and swiveling better for walking… but honestly, I have only used it swiveling! I have at least two friends who bought cheaper strollers (one was Baby Trend, don’t know on the other) and they both ended up buying the BOB later and love it so much more than what they initially had. So while it’s expensive, it would have been cheaper for both of them in the first place to have the BOB.

A great resource is JoggerMom.com – they have lots of articles, videos plus you can shop there!

  • Sean November 6, 2012, 5:42 pm

I want to be a baby stroller jogging father so bad 🙁

  • Robyne Spillers November 6, 2012, 6:17 pm

It has been a long time since we first got our jogging stroller, but when you said you resisted a jogging stroller because jogging was your me time (which I totally understand) I got to remembering that we loved our jogging stroller because it was easier to use in places that a normal stroller would not go. The jogging stroller had larger wheels that handled grass, gravel, and other terrain. My husband liked the jogging stroller because the handles where longer and he didn’t feel as if he was bending over to push stroller. As the children got older, the jogging stroller seat was a better fit for a tired 4 year old. Enjoy the jogging stroller which ever you choose.

  • Jessica November 6, 2012, 6:35 pm

I’m a huge cat lover so Pippa has won me over. However, best part of this blog post? Henry’s oh-so-adorable picture!! He’s so cute and the look on his face while blowing bubbles is hilarious. I can’t believe how mature his features have gotten! And congrats on adding a kitty to your family. You won’t regret it 🙂

  • Lisa November 6, 2012, 6:36 pm

We have the baby trend jogger, it was the best out of the cheaper models from the reviews I read. It’s probably heavier than the fancy ones and doesn’t have shocks, but it works for us. This decision to buy a jogger was made before I was a runner.. I did a 5K with it a few weeks ago and it held up great. M is just getting heavy. I don’t know if a fancier model will make it easier to run with the growing babe!

  • Megan November 6, 2012, 8:59 pm

I have the BOB Revolution SE. Why did I choose that one? Because it had excellent ratings. Honestly, its one of the best purchases we made.

  • Jessica November 6, 2012, 10:22 pm

BOB Revolution all the way. Soooo smooth, love option to fix or turn wheel, SO easy to push, easy to fold up. Great storage. Anyway, Amazon has 20% specials on it sometimes but MORE often diapers.com has 20% off, that is how i got mine

  • Sarah@Kids Heart Real Food November 6, 2012, 11:05 pm

I skimmed the comments and I think I am the only one who has the Bumbleride Indie as my jogging stroller? I did a lot of research as well and chose it because I only wanted to purchase one stroller so I wanted the lightest, narrowest jogging stroller out there! The Bbleride is pretty streamlined so it works well for my everyday stroller in the city but then the front wheel locks so I can use it when running. It is SUPER smooth – I barely feel any bumps ever. My only complaint is that I find it a bit difficult topics the seat from an upright to a reclining position – tough to do with one hand. I also think it is marketed as being for “light running” so not sure if it would be the stroller to choose if you were training for a full marathon? Either way – it’s definitely a “must-have” to he able to get in a few extra runs when you are on baby duty.

  • Elizabeth S. November 6, 2012, 11:06 pm

Congrats on getting your new kitty! She’s beautiful.

We have 3 cats and our vet wants us to feed them a mix of wet & dry food for all of the reasons mentioned above. We like Wellness brand for them – we feed the Core (protein-focused, lower-carb) dry food at night and the canned wet food in the morning.

  • Nine November 7, 2012, 2:46 am

Ask 100 vets their opinion on feline nutrition, and you’re likely to get 100 different answers – here’s mine (based on doing my masters in feline nutrition and gastroenterology) 🙂
Cats are carnivores, and their natural diet is composed of small meaty creatures, who’s composition is high in protein and moisture, and low in carbohydrate, similar to a grain free wet food. Dry biscuits tend to have high carbohydrate levels (to make them dry and crunchy). Consumption of these high carb levels has been strongly linked with obesity and the development of type 2 diabetes.
Cats are also originally desert creatures, it’s not their natural instinct to satisfy thirst by finding water to drink – instead they get it from their prey. By the time they want to drink water, they are probably already a bit dehydrated. Feeding wet food helps to prevent this low level chronic dehydration, which may help to protect against kidney disease and urinary tract issues.
Wet foods don’t cause dental problems (in fact the low carb/high protein levels may reduce plaque formation as there is less “sugar” in the mouth ), but they don’t do very much to clean the teeth either. Having said that- neither do the majority of dry foods. There are specific, prescription foods that are designed to reduce plaque, tartar and gingivitis, but the majority of dry foods are really no different to us eating something dry and crunchy like cereal or chips. I still see dozens of cats weekly requiring dental cleanings and extractions, the majority of which eat mostly dry food.
Sorry for the lecture – you may be able to tell I’m a little passionate about this topic!

I think it’s a personal choice about wet or dry food but I personally wish I had never given my cat wet food. He LOVES it. So even though he has dry food available to him, he will wake us up in the most annoying ways to get his wet food. Cats are extremely routined. It sounds like you have your hands full with Henry waking you up and his routine, I personally think dry food for a cat is healthy and also saves your sanity a bit (if your cat is anything like mine!)

    hi caitlin..
first time posting here but ive been reading for years! love you! i have had 2 cats in my life.. the first was a siamese who had a stump tail like pippa (my dad rescued her, she was run over by a car and had her tail shortened) and she suffered from very bad kidney disease towards the end of life.. i think its possible it was due to her diet.. we fed her whatever kind of dry cat food.. i think delicat.. the second we have now is just a blonde tabby we got from the shelter.. he recently had urinary obstruction due to his diet of whatever dry cat food as well.. obstruction is painful and life threatening, and requires surgical intervention. we changed him to a prescription dry food and he hasnt had recurrence of obstruction.. usually its caused by high level of magnesium in the food but only males are more prone to it, not females.. all cats LOVE wet food, but i personally find that my cat is still starving when he eats wet food and wants to eat more and its also very bad for his teeth if you cannot brush regularly.. both of my cats had/have terrible dental hygeine and dont allow me to brush their teeth, so dry food works better for me..

we also feed my cat on top of the dryer so the dog doesnt get his food! i highly recommend getting these 2 products.. my cat is NOT declawed and has ruined many carpets/upholstered sofas: Purrfect Post Deluxe and Omega Paw Self-Cleaning Litter Box. dont waste your time with carpeted or cardboard scratching posts, it confuses cats if you have carpeting.. my cat loves to scratch the purrfect post and doesnt ruin anything when he has it accessible.. and the omega paw litter box is great if you use clumping litter so you are not digging around for poop.. its not electronic either and uses regular clumping litter.. and lastly if you want her to have somewhere to hide from the pups, get her a cat tree.. and put it in a sunny spot.. it will be her safe haven from the dogs..

lastly, my son is 20 months and ive had the bob revolution SE and he enjoys it.. i like it and have had no issues with it.. its big and bulky, but all jogging strollers are, for good reason.. when he was smaller i put a snuzzler insert in to provide some head/neck support.. you’ll be surprised how much harder it is to run using a jogging stroller.. it takes some adjustment but, like running it takes some getting used to.. best of luck!

I have a Bob and I have no complaints, friends who have (according to them) made the mistake of not getting one have told me that they like how you can navigate with one hand and its much smoother and easier than the other types, which I completely agree with. I’ve tried out some of theirs and they feel like a 4 wheeled stroller to me that just has one less wheel, not really suitable for jogging. I’m sure there are ones other than Bob that are good, but I’d recommend the higher end types, you won’t be disappointed and at least for me, I don’t need an excuse NOT to run. You might as well make it as easy as possible.

I don’t have anything to compare it to but I love my Bumbleride jogging stroller. It rides super smooth and turns great. The front wheel can either lock or swivel. It has enough room/pouches to hold my stuff and extra stuff for baby. It does have an adaptor bar for the car seat (though not for running with it). Now that my son is in the seat part he seems to like. It is shaded but also doesn’t block his view. The straps are padded for him and he has plenty of leg room. The seat has great reclining options and the foot part can also either be straight or down for when he is older. Personally I think some people just go to Bob because that’s a well-known brand but there are so many others out there to look at.

I can’t wait to hear what you decide. I’ve been hearing the BOB is the best from many of my friends. I’ll be on the search soon as well!

    Henry is looking very cute.

I love the Baby Jogger brand! I have a 2 year old, an 8.5 month old and am 9 weeks pregnant with #3 and I have a BJ city mini, BJ summit double, and a BJ FIT jogger (http://www.babyjogger.com/fit_dtl.aspx).

The FIT is brilliant for running however the handle bar is fixed so it might not be great for shorter people (my husband is 6’3 and it’s fine for me and him). It’s such a light stroller that the fixed wheel (essential for running safely) is no problem even on walks, you get used to it.

I have two kids – 2 and 3 .. they are 16 months apart. I have both the Single Bob Revolution and the Double – Dualie Bob Revolution. I absolutely love them both. I used the single all the time and walked/ran with my first until I got pregnant again. I think stalled getting the Dualie because of the price but it is fantastic and I have never regretted the decision. I’ve even run a 10K pushing both kids in the Dualie Bob. I have nothing but positive things to say about the Bob. I think you’ll love having a jogging stroller. Even though running is “your time” – which I totally support and respect – you’ll find yourself using the stroller for lots of different activities that are just on uneven ground: pumpkin patch, xmas tree farm, etc. Good luck – can’t wait to hear what you end up with. Also – consider having your Dad look on Craig’s List. My bestie got a fantastic deal on an almost-new Single Bob Revolution.

We do best of both… Kibbles out for kitty in the day and a sachet of wet at night. The kibbles are better for her nutritionally, the wets are the treat and for moisture in her diet. It’s what the SPCA here in New Zealand recommend.

Another vote for the BOB revolution. Got mine on Craigslist– it’s the best money I ever spent. Outside Magazine agrees with me: http://www.outsideonline.com/blog/outdoor-adventure/athletes/the-worlds-best-jogging-stroller-period.html

BOB Revolution SE. LOVE it–we use it every day and I couldn’t imagine baby life without it! Worth the expense. No doubt about it.
