Kale Sludge

Some of us are crawling (almost)…

Some of us are running.  Smile

I had a lovely run this morning.  I did 4.5 miles, about 0.5 mile longer than my goal per my training plan.  This week hasn’t been so great in terms of my training… I really did emotionally re-commit last week, but the past few days have been crazy between the clinic move, my work trip, and everything in between. I’m starting to realize that whenever my week is even slightly weird, it’s gonna throw my workouts for a loop.  That’s okay – as long as I still do it when I can.

Not only did I quite a bit farther than required, I also pushed it really hard.  Wahoo for speed!

Came home and made a light by tasty lunch.  My appetite was crushed by my workout – does that ever happen to you?  I’m sure it will kick back in soon – oh, in approximately an hour or so.

My brother-in-law recently showed me how to make ‘juice’ with my Vitamix blender (which, by the way, is expensive as crap but tooooooootally worth it).  The Vitamix is so powerful that it just eats up everything I drop in, essentially creating juice when you add a little water.

In the blender (this made two drinks):

Loads and loads of raw kale

A whole apple

Juice of half a lemon

Two cups of water

Six drops of Stevia

It’s frothy at the top but pretty tasty.  Like drinking a salad!

How was your training this weekend?  Meh?  Awesome?

I’m looking forward to kickin’ butt over the weekend and doing a really long run.  Gotta get back in the saddle.

I am convinced that I NEED a vitamix of my own! Any suggestions on which model, refurbished vs new, where to buy (direct vs amazon), etc?

After a hard workout I am rarely hungry so I have to force myself to eat something small…but then a few hours later I am starving.

I can’t believe Henry is THATCLOSE to crawling! My baby is a few weeks older, and he’s not on all fours yet……I know I’m not supposed to compare babies, but I hope he’s not behind! Although I did have a friend who’s baby wasnt’ crawling yet at 8 months, then all of a sudden starting crawling every where. I’m so excited for the crawling! :)

I think all bebes are just different :) Maybe yours will skip crawling and go right to walking! (Ahh)

Working out always makes me less hungry for awhile. There are lots of studies that show that to be true.

Henry is just simply a beautiful little boy. His blue eyes are awesome.

Did you throw the entire lemon in there, peel and all? Did that make it taste bitter at all?

My training was…meh. I was sick and worked way too much this week so I missed 3-4 days and the other days were really lackluster. I have a 5-mile race (the first race that I plan to run – I’ve always walked) on Thanksgiving so I’m a little worried I am behind in training as I still have body aches from the flu and can’t push too hard right now. We’ll see! On another note – I asked for $$ towards a Vitamix for Christmas this year! I nearly burnt out the motor on my regular and personal blenders this year and get frustrated when I try to make things like homemade pureed pumpkin and it takes 2 hours to puree it. It’s actually really sad how excited I am.

OMG those photos of Henry are ADORABLE. I’m in love with the last one.

And I really want a Vitamix!

I want a Vitamix so badly! But it’s so low on the list compared to other things that I want that I doubt I’ll ever make the investment for one.

Though I already have a blender, a juicer and a processor, so would the Vitamix do anything that they already couldn’t?

I’m training for my second half marathon and today, I was forced to run on a treadmill. I thought I’d hate it and just do an easy 8 miles but I ended up running a whole half AND blasting my 13.1 PR by 21 minutes!!! Just goes to show how training smart and eating well helps – and I know you experienced that between your two marathons.

My training seems to have reached a bit of a standstill lately. I’m stuck on two miles and don’t seem to be getting much faster or getting any motivation to go further!

Exercise has been worse than meh this week. Baby has a tummy bug so nights have been filled with puking instead of sleeping and days have been filled with laundering everything that was puked on. Hoping next week isa million times better for both of us!

Henry’s face is totally “look ma!!” So cute!
I so desperately want a Vitamix but it’s going to have to wait until there’s money for more than a car payment…ha! ;)

So many of my pictures are iphone pics :) I really like my SD90 point and shoot though. My biggest tip would be to take lots of peoples when you’re trying to catch something cute. I just left my finger on the trigger and took about 20 photos of him in that position to get two good ones.

We have a vitamix too. To cut the frothyness, I think it helps to turn the speed down slowly when it’s all blended and keep it on the lowest speed for a few seconds, it kind of eats up all the bubbly top! Good luck! Also check out YouTube videos of people using their vitamixs for good ideas. I think there’s a “vitamix lady” doing demos in SAMs or Costco, she has some good tips and recipes. Like how to hide veges in things, like ice cream. Might be helpful down the road with Henry.

I’ve heard the viatamix is so much better to use to make juice because it doesn’t discard the pulp which has so many nutrients. It just pulverizes it! Smart thinking, brother in law!
