Happy Five Months, Henry!

IMG_2541

A comparison to when he was just five days old…

IMG_0184

Time flies when you’re having fun… and buried in poopy diapers… and sleep deprived… and your house is covered in plastic toys… and you’re busy blowing raspberries on a squishy belly.  <3  Really and truly – where does the time go?!

Breakfast:

IMG_2819

Lately, I’ve been mixing a few scoops of vanilla protein powder into my oatmeal.  It tastes a little bit funny, but not too bad, and I get an extra 20 grams of protein with breakfast.

Banana oats with pan-fried green apple on top.

To make the apple, I just chopped it up into small pieces and cooked it on the stovetop with a little oil, maple syrup, and cinnamon.  Perfection.

Yum! I have yet to try making pan-fried apples, but I’ve been seeing them around blogs quite a bit lately. I also still want to try to make your pan-fried banana.

Aww – Happy five months!! I can’t believe how fast babies change!

  • Rachel November 12, 2012, 9:06 am

It’s crazy how much Henry looks like you, with your husband’s colouring. He’s so cute!

  • Sam @ Better With Sprinkles November 12, 2012, 9:28 am

    Henry’s gotten so big!

And I love that spatula. I have a weird love of interesting spatulas…my favourite one is shaped like a cupcake. :-p

  • Ashley @ My Food 'N' Fitness Diaries November 12, 2012, 9:34 am

Wow! Time does fly! He’s so darn cute, and I can’t believe how big he’s gotten and changed within the matter of five months. Happy 5 months Henry!

  • Nicole@ livingthesweetlifestl.wordpress.com November 12, 2012, 9:50 am

Now I have to go to the store on the way home from work tonight and pick up some apples because those look so good! Perfect fall treat.

  • Natalie @ Free Range Human November 12, 2012, 9:53 am

Happy 5 months, Henry! Love the quote of the day-Winnie the Pooh, I believe!

  • Katie @ Soulshine and Sassafras November 12, 2012, 9:54 am

I see so much of both of you in Henry! What a cute little dude 🙂

  • Leah @ Chocolate and Wild Air November 12, 2012, 10:00 am

Henry, you’re getting so big – and so cute!! Happy five months 🙂

And those fried apples sound amazing! Yum. I’m always too lazy to cook in the mornings though…

  • Emma November 12, 2012, 10:03 am

I put vanilla protein powder in my oatmeal too! I love it, especially when I make the oatmeal with 1/2 milk 1/2 water

  • Katie @ Peace Love and Oats November 12, 2012, 10:05 am

Oh my gosh, I can’t believe it’s been five months! Time really does fly! And I need to take the time to cook my apples that way, I always just microwave them

  • Reenie November 12, 2012, 10:35 am

    Happy 5 Months Henry!!

I put my Body by VI protein powder in my oatmeal =)

  • Kendra @ My Full-Thyme Life November 12, 2012, 11:28 am

Happy 5 Months, Henry!! He is such a cuite pie!

How has his sleep been going? I’m curious to know if the sleep training is done.

    • Caitlin November 12, 2012, 11:44 am

Its like, 50% where I want it to me, so it’s going okay. I have not gotten really firm about staying in bed at night, but I am about to this week. He goes down for naps relatively easy (minimal fussy) and bedtime is great, but there is still a lot of up and down in the middle of the night.

      • Kendra @ My Full-Thyme Life November 12, 2012, 12:13 pm

That is tough. Is there up and down because he needs something or do you think he is just making sure you are there? There are so many ways to handle this stuff and myself, other mamas, the so-called “experts” can all weigh in… I hope you get to 100% of where you want to be doing what works best for you and Henry, very soon!

        • Caitlin November 12, 2012, 12:15 pm

naw I just think he wants cuddles. he only ever drinks 2 ounces or so at these middle of the night feedings so he’s clearly not hungry.

          • Kendra @ My Full-Thyme Life November 12, 2012, 12:27 pm

I hate to say it… but sounds like he may be “sleep training” you… Don’t hate me!! I don’t know your baby better than you and I am clearly NOT an expert. I’ve just been there myself and especially as a mom who works outside the home full-time, I couldn’t keep getting up multiple times a night. I had to seriously bite my lip and let him cry it out a few times and with the help from his pacifier, he stopped those “are you there mom?” awakenings pretty quickly. But that’s just what worked for us and believe me, crying it out is NOT for the faint of heart.

          • Caitlin November 12, 2012, 12:29 pm

Haha he has totally trained me.

  • Teresa November 12, 2012, 11:29 am

I really appreciate that you don’t sugar coat things like I feel some other blogs do. Obviously parenting isn’t all smiles, cute outfits, and a late night here and there. I think you do such a good job of telling it how it is

  • natalie @ will jog for food November 12, 2012, 11:33 am

    Henry is so cute!

    Love the apple idea 🙂

  • Carrie @ The Cook's Palette November 12, 2012, 11:42 am

It’s been so much fun watching Henry grow, change, and develop over the last 5 months! Before you know it, he’ll be sitting in the high chair! Thanks for sharing a bit of his life with us.

  • Sarah @ Yogi in Action November 12, 2012, 11:44 am

Wow- Henry has grown SO much!

Will you be doing another body/mind update?

    That oatmeal looks delicious

  • Molly November 12, 2012, 1:04 pm

I totally needed that Operation Beautiful quote today. Even though I have heard it before (framed in my kitchen actually!) I just needed a reminder. I defend my thesis today and I am FREAKING out. That just put my mind more at ease. Thank you!

  • Julia H. @ Live Young & Prosper November 12, 2012, 2:28 pm

WHOAH absolutely trying that pan-fried apple idea tomorrow. I have a bunch of apples that I’m trying to use up, and I keep wanting to incorporate them into my oatmeal but couldn’t come up with a way to do it. THIS sounds perfect!!
And Happy 5 Months to Henry…who never ceases to amaze me with how different he already looks from when he was born.

  • Julianna @ Julianna Bananna November 12, 2012, 2:43 pm

i’ve tried putting protein powder in oatmeal and just can’t handle it.. maybe i’m using the wrong powder but it always turns out so chalky!

& that pan fried apple looks so good!

  • Stephanie @ Food and Fitness 4 Real November 12, 2012, 5:35 pm

Yay! Happy five months to Henry and Happy 5 months of Motherhood to you! I forget how scrawny my babies were right after they were born and how big they get so quickly! Henry is beautiful and perfect right now! Wishing you lots of luck with your sleep training. We are struggling with getting my 3 1/2 year old to STAY in his big boy bed. He goes to bed fine but gets out of bed 10-15 times. His reasons are: to give us a hug, to hug the dog, to say he loves us, just because, he’s not tired… the excuses go on for a few hours sometimes!

  • Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin November 12, 2012, 6:39 pm

Aww happy 5 months to Henry! I can’t believe how much he’s grown!

  • Kris November 12, 2012, 7:48 pm

Happy five months to Henry! Don’t forget to thank a veteran today, and to keep those who serve, who have served, and military families everywhere in your thoughts today.

    • Caitlin November 12, 2012, 9:00 pm

      Happy Veteran’s Day!

  • Katie @ Talk Less, Say More November 12, 2012, 7:52 pm

  • Dana November 12, 2012, 7:58 pm

How is he 5 months already?! He’s a cutie.

  • Amber K November 12, 2012, 8:40 pm
