We finally found a fun outdoor activity for all of us – the Husband, Henry, and I – to enjoy without melting.  Well, the Husband may have slowly melted.  But Henry and I were fine. Winking smile

We went to the driving range bright and early; Kristien hit a bucket of balls while Henry and I sat in the refreshments area and watched.  This would’ve never worked without the ceiling fans!  The whole experience was actually quite nice – a change of scenery, some fresh air.

Baby belly was bared to maximize coolness.

Henry’s first time on a golf course.  Gotta start them early, right?

Despite the shade, when the temps really started to climb, we had to leave.  It is RIDICULOUSLY warm out there. Where are the summer thunderstorms to cool it all down?!

The Husband and I were positively giddy to be out of the house.  Since Henry was doing so well, we decided to extend our adventure and go to our friends’ house to meet their new baby.

First things first:  we stopped off at Laurel Market for some food.  Laurel Market is this cute little deli with the best food.  It’s so inconspicuous; you would totally drive by it and not think twice.  But the food is so delicious.

I got stuffed grape leaves and a very unusual artichoke salad.

IMG_0281

The salad contained a mix of shredded cheese, basil, sundried tomatoes, and artichokes, as well as a few big slices of mozzarella cheese.  Very unique but very tasty.

Plus chips!

Visiting our buddies (in their cool, cool air conditioned house) was fun, too.  Heather had Mirabelle five days after I delivered Henry.  I have high hopes they will grow up, fall in love, and make babies of their own.  Fingers crossed!

Everyone else staying cool?  I think these temps are high all over the country!

YAY for baby best friends!!! 🙂 Glad you had a change of scenery and I am so happy that Henry is such a GOOD baby!

  • Gabby (Quest for Delicious) June 30, 2012, 3:55 pm

    That artichoke salad sounds amazing!

  • Julia June 30, 2012, 4:22 pm

    Too adorable!!!

Love how Henry’s hair is turning more reddish! 🙂

This may sound crazy, but I’d love some record high temps! It’s a cool 68 & cloudy here in Seattle. Hello? Summer? Oddly enough the summer my daughter was born, it was insanely hot (not normal out here). We took refuge at the mall :). You should see if any local movie theaters do a “baby’s day at the movies”. A couple theaters out here do early AM show times, babies are free, the movies aren’t quite as loud & they leave the lights up a bit. It’s awesome!

I know right?! I live 40 minutes out of Seattle… it’s been rainy and humid all day 🙁 but you know what they say… summer in Seattle doesn’t start until after the 4th of July!

      • Ingunn June 30, 2012, 10:12 pm

June has been AWFUL in Seattle!! 🙁

Caitlin, that boy is getting cuter and cuter every day.

    • Amber K July 1, 2012, 2:59 pm

It’s cold down here in Oregon too. The Pacific NW could use some heat!

  • Amanda K. June 30, 2012, 4:47 pm

don’t hope too much for thunderstorms, we had a terrible one here in virginia. everyone lost power, there are trees down everywhere…and it didn’t cool us down at all, we’re in the 100s here today, too!!

    • Lindsay June 30, 2012, 5:07 pm

I was just going to say the same thing! So many people without power due to storms in the northeast and they’re suffering in the 100+ temps 🙁

    • Karen June 30, 2012, 10:10 pm

Yep, here in Ohio we got wicked thunderstorms and a million people around the state lost power, and many are still without power. Just praying that elderly and those in danger from the heat are okay.

  • Shari June 30, 2012, 5:04 pm

I love that the little ones are still newborns and you’re matchmaking already! 🙂 Also – the name Mirabelle is beautiful!

  • Katie @ Peace Love & Oats June 30, 2012, 5:23 pm

hahaha how cute would that be if they did get married!?!?

  • Kath June 30, 2012, 5:35 pm

So fun!! (And I have that same tank 🙂 )

  • Cindy June 30, 2012, 5:46 pm

I wish I could send the cool and rainy Scotland weather your way!

  • Tracy June 30, 2012, 6:34 pm

Caitlin you are such an inspiration! I think I must have some body image issues. I was too worried about going out in public because of my post-baby belly!!! Is this normal? I did not want anyone to think I was pregnant, especially when I went out without the baby. I love that you go out and have fun and seem to not focus on your body. I was in the gym 2 weeks after my baby was born, partly because I missed all my gym friends but also because I wanted my body back!!! 🙁 I wish I could make myself feel differently. Maybe I can figure this out before I have baby #2!!!

    • CaitlinHTP July 1, 2012, 10:59 am

I don’t think it’s ever a good thing if the way you feel about your body prevents you from enjoying life. I’m so sorry you felt that way after baby! I do think it’s normal to struggle a bit emotionally with how you feel about your body and sense of self after baby – after all, it’s a pretty big change. But it should be kept in perspective, right?

My body is definitely looking post-baby. I’ve got an extra 15 pounds on me and a super soft tummy, the black line down the middle. My boobs are huge and saggy and filled with millllk. BUT, when I look at my body, I try to remind myself of two things: 1) this is how it is SUPPOSED to look right now. It’s not about me being lazy or unattractive, it’s about me being post-pregnant. The look of my body right now serves a very important and beautiful purpose. 2) My body will not look like this forever.

I really do try to celebrate the way I look. When I catch myself feeling negative about it, I think instead about how FEMININE and WOMANLY I look.

I don’t know if that will help – I think a lot of is about perspective and attitude.

Wish I could sent the wet weather from the west coast of Canada your way… its 15C in rain n, and its not windy… But I’m wearing a thermal top, long pants and wool socks!

  • Sana June 30, 2012, 7:54 pm

Awww I hope your wish comes true!

  • Sara June 30, 2012, 7:55 pm

It’s that hot in Richmond, Va. and we had terrible storms last night! My inlaws and parents lost their power and my parents’ AC is on the fritz 🙁 So sometimes those storms aren’t helpful at all. SO blessed that we have AC and our power stayed on. Stay cool!

  • Stacie @ Snaps and Bits June 30, 2012, 8:16 pm

I love the driving range! Henry will be cute when he can hit some balls too!

  • Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin June 30, 2012, 8:33 pm

That’s such a great idea for getting out of the house – and it sounds nice and relaxing for you and Henry! 😉

  • honey June 30, 2012, 8:51 pm

That salad is amazing! wow. I felt hungry when I saw it, but surely I would only eat half of it because I easily get full, thanks to my Roca Labs program, I’m now losing weight so I’m controlling what I eat, but seriously, looks very appealing. hmm mm. Hope I could share our cold breeze here.

  • brooke @ sweats & sweets June 30, 2012, 10:11 pm

I want that salad and stuffed grape leaves. Sounds deliciously amazing, so jealous!

Falling in love from birth would be the most romantic love story ever!

  • Meet Me At The Finish Line June 30, 2012, 10:32 pm

I adore summer, but this heat is getting OLD. I am a morning person but having trouble enjoying 4 am wake up calls for long runs! Way to get creative though I like the keeping husband happy, but still getting out in the world. Sometimes with kids you feel like you just need adult conversation! I love to see how active you are even as a new mommy you definitely aren’t housebound!

  • Nicole June 30, 2012, 11:32 pm

I think Mirabelle is going to eat Henry. She’s a whole lotta woman!

  • Amanda July 1, 2012, 12:36 am

    I love Hungry, Hungry Henry.

  • Annette@FitnessPerks July 1, 2012, 12:46 am

Cute pic of the babies and you guys!!

  • Li July 1, 2012, 1:09 am

These temps are crazy – itwas 104 in northwestern Ohio one day this week!

I LOVE Dirty Chips! The salt & vinegar flavor is awesome 🙂

  • Brittnie (A Joy Renewed) July 1, 2012, 7:46 am

It is HOT here in Houston. And when I say hot think heat mixed with like 99% humidity. Ha! No need to dry or attempt to do my hair. Like ever. 🙂 I had my baby 8 weeks ago and if we don’t go out on a walk early, around 8am, its just too hot out there and my baby girl sweats herself out of her stroller/car seat.

  • Julia H. @ Going Gulia July 1, 2012, 10:51 am

Holy cow, those giant mozzarella pieces on your salad look delicious. Wow. Glad you had a good time out with Henry today! Must be nice to get out of the house 🙂

  • Nina A July 1, 2012, 12:16 pm

I love reading your blog. So many great ideas and today, a blast from the past. I lived in Charlotte before moving to Japan and then VA Beach. Laurel Market was my absolute favorite spot for the freshest, most creative sandwiches and salads. I’ll have to remember that the next time I am there visiting family. By the way, Henry is adorable!!
