The nursery tour!

16 weeks pregnant IMG_9499 - Copy

I must have pregnancy brain because yesterday, I spent the entire day telling people I was three weeks from my due date.  40 weeks minus 36 weeks is 4 weeks, not 3.  Meh.  Well, regardless, Happy 36 Weeks, BabyHTP!

I’m feeling pretty good this week.  I have really bad carpal tunnel in both of my hands, but it seems that BabyHTP is dropping, so my heartburn has disappeared.  I’ll take it.  I’m sleeping well and exercising regularly.

IMG_9500

Okay – onto the good stuff. Winking smile  The nursery tour!  I have been dying to show you guys the nursery.

IMG_9512

I am married to a man that really cares about design and decorating.  He is not the type of man to say, “Oh, honey, I don’t care what the rug in the living room looks like… You can choose whatever.”  Fun fact: he actually chose our wedding colors and the bridesmaid dresses. Anyway, I really care about design and decorating, too, which means that neither one of us have ever decorated a room entirely by ourselves as adults.  When we moved into the new house, we decided that we’d each get free reign over one room:  he did the man cave, and I did the nursery.

Of course, we don’t know if BabyHTP is a boy or a girl, so when browsing for nursery ideas, I had to wade through a lot designs that seemed boy- or girl-specific (i.e. pretty, pretty princess).  I finally found an inspiration nursery that I loved – this nursery from Modg.  I loved concept of gray paint (we used this color by Sherwin Williams) and the white trees and ran with it from there.

Let’s start with my favorite part of the room, though – the dresser/changing table.

IMG_9504

One of the great things about our nursery is how our friends and family really pitched in to make it special and unique.  My mom, for example, painted this dresser, which actually is the dresser that I grew up with – I got it when I was 7 or 8 years old and used it until I left for college.  She painted it a lovely white and got a plastic sheet cut to fit the top.  We’re both a little concerned about the safety factor of the star handles (they are pointy), which are the original handles to the dresser, so I may swap them out before BabyHTP becomes mobile.

IMG_9545 IMG_9546

I ordered a changing pad for the top of the table – it should be here any day now – and in one of the drawers are all the diaper supplies.

IMG_9547

Baby clothes are so tiny.  It kills me.

Above the dresser are two prints that I found on Etsy (here and here).  My friend Kath bought them for me as a gift and framed them herself.

IMG_9506

And above the prints is an awesome mobile.  I contacted a shopkeeper on Etsy who specialized in paper lantern mobiles and asked if she could create a custom one.  I have to say – Janie Girl Crafts is incredible.  I am pretty bad at describing concepts aloud to others (“Um, I want a horizontal mobile… with blue… and it should be big… and pretty…”) but she seemed to know exactly what I meant.  There are about twenty lanterns in the mobile.

IMG_9516

I hope BabyHTP likes to look up at all the colors and shapes while I’m wrestling a dirty diaper off his or her butt.

Swinging to the left, I’ve got the window and my seating area.  My mom generously gave me a glider for my shower – I selected this one from Stork Craft.

IMG_9526

Choosing a glider really stressed me out – this concept seems laughable if you’ve never shopped for a glider, but they range from cheap (with mixed reviews) to outrageously expensive (with mixed reviews).  Not everyone uses a glider, but I know I will, and it was hard to select one.  All in all, I am thrilled with the glider and would highly recommend it – I think people just get really picky in their reviews.  It’s comfy, glides nicely, and the back is tall enough so I can rest my head back.  Win, win, win.

IMG_9527

Maggie likes to sit in it. Smile

Next to the glider, my dachshund night lightNicole gave me this for my shower – she remarked on the card that it was the weirdest gift she’d ever given.  But I love it.  First of all, it’s exactly the same size as Maggie.  It gives off a really nice glow, which will be perfect for middle-of-the-night feedings.  Plus, it’s totally silly.

IMG_9524

(I’ll move to the dresser when the baby becomes mobile to get the cords out of his or her reach.)

Swinging to the left again – the pièce de résistance!  The mural.

IMG_9530

My mother-in-law is an incredible artist and has been painting the baby’s mural on-and-off for a few weeks.  She did it completely freehand, and it’s absolutely wonderful.  She still has a bit to go – some shadowing and details – but I’m not sure when she’s going to be able to finish it up because of work travel.  Hopefully, it will be complete before the baby arrives, but if not – no big deal.

IMG_9533

The neatest part is that the trees kind of glow when you turn off the lights at night.

Crib was a gift from my best friend Lauren (see what I mean? Everywhere I look in the nursery, I am reminded of our sweet family and friends – it’s wonderful).  Believe it or not, but the crib is actually from Wal-Mart.  It’s really beautiful and sturdy.

IMG_9528

I bought these sheets and this skirt.  And the blanket is a hand-knitted one that I bought from Etsy.

IMG_9535

I splurged on that blanket because it perfectly matched the boxes that I bought from Land of Nod.  I’m keeping toys and breastfeeding supplies in these.

IMG_9543

Speaking of toys and things for BabyHTP to do…

Love the non-traditional bookcase!

IMG_9538

I bought three photo frame shelves from IKEA and used them to prop up the books – I thought it was more fun that having the pretty covers hidden in a normal bookshelf.

IMG_9539 IMG_9541

We have SO many great books for BabyHTP because everyone who came to my shower brought their favorite kids book – each book is inscribed with a message from the guest, too.  I’m looking forward to torturing BabyHTP with the saddest but best story ever, The Velveteen Rabbit.

Book overflow:

IMG_9537

So – that’s the nursery!  I hope BabyHTP has loads of fun sleeping, playing, and eating in the room – so much love went into it from so many people.

And if you’re wondering what the closet looks like… well, it’s a disaster.  I need to put in some shelving and do some organizing, but I still have three four weeks left, right?  I sure hope so!

    Beautiful!

  • Megan May 16, 2012, 2:26 pm

Your nursery is beautiful. I’m really curious how you decided on the aquaish blue color? If we’re being stereotypical that is a “boy” color (no disrespect). Personally, I dislike pink and as a girl I would lovee a room that color blue, its gorgeous.

    • Caitlin May 16, 2012, 2:32 pm

Thanks 🙂 I just really like turquoise. I guess it’s in the blue family, but I’m not really down with the whole pink is for girls, blue is for boys thing anyway. We have pink and blue onesies that I plan to cram baby in no matter what sex they are. 😉 I also got a few overt ‘boy onesies’ (I hate to even say that because who says that it’s a boy thing just because it has a truck on it) for my shower because some family members are convinced the baby is a boy, but I’ll still put baby in it if she’s a girl. Dunno, just rambling. Basically, I don’t care too much about pink v. blue in terms of sex.

      • Vikki May 16, 2012, 5:03 pm

Just be prepared for the “What a cute little boy” comments if she is a girl. You should probably be prepared for those anyway.

      • Megan May 16, 2012, 9:04 pm

I figured you wouldn’t be much for associating color with sex and I think that’s really awesome. You’re such an inspiration and you’re gonna be a great mommy :]

    • Emmalinda May 17, 2012, 10:15 pm

I got to choose the color my bedroom when I was maybe in junior high, and I totally chose turquoise! One of my favorite colors.

  • Caroline @ chocolate & carrots May 16, 2012, 2:27 pm

It’s gorgeous! I just did a post on our nursery today too! 😀 It’s here if you want to check it out! http://chocolateandcarrots.com/crackersandcarrots/2012/05/the-nursery

  • Rebecca May 16, 2012, 2:28 pm

I love this nursery!! By far my favorite I have ever seen!! The mural and colors are amazing.

  • Sara May 16, 2012, 2:29 pm

Ah I love it! Now I want to show you mine! I think my favorite part is the lantern mobile thing. Do you think that something like that would be safe above the crib? Right now I have the picture frames above the dresser and nothing around the crib. I may just leave the crib as is for safety reasons, but something like this would be so neat.

    • Caitlin May 16, 2012, 2:33 pm

I guess it depends on how high you hang it – as long as they can’t grab it, it’s fine.

i want to see your nursery! do a post.

  • Haley May 16, 2012, 2:34 pm

The nursery is AWESOME!! Your mother-in-law is beyond talented….that mural is amazing.

You make me want to go decorate a room!!!!!!

  • Stephanie @ Live Cook Love May 16, 2012, 2:36 pm

I love this nursery! The mural is beautiful and everything is so personalized. It really clicked with me while reading this that you really are having a baby! You read about it on blogs and I see my friends having babies, but when you look at the nursery and the little diapers, it all becomes real! Congrats 🙂

  • Steph May 16, 2012, 2:36 pm

Ahhh the nursery is absolutely beautiful!! I love the color combinations and the mural is stunning.

  • Johanna B May 16, 2012, 2:36 pm

Would you believe I’d never heard of the Velveteen Rabbit until I took a children’s lit course in college? It’s sad but true. I fell in love with it and read it many many times to my daughter as she was growing up. I hope now that she will read it to her son.

  • Brianna May 16, 2012, 2:37 pm

  • Angela @ Eat Spin Run Repeat May 16, 2012, 2:54 pm

Oh my goodness, SO cute!! Everything about the nursery is beautiful. I love the daschund night light and I want one! 🙂 I’m a big turquoise/teal fan, and all the lanterns make me want to decorate a room in my house in these colours. Want to come re-do my bedroom for me? 😉

  • Emily May 16, 2012, 2:56 pm

It is beautiful. When I saw the first picture I was like “no way is that their place!”. But it is! I actually teared up reading and looking through this post. So beautiful. You are going to have so many happy times in that room.

The painting your mum has done reminds me that my Granny painted in my first room too. Only she went with seriously scary clowns in primary colours. Yours is much more tasteful and lasting!

  • Samantha May 16, 2012, 2:57 pm

Your nursery is so beautiful, and your mother-in-law did an amazing job on that mural! I’ve seen that inspiration room before and actually want to craft my nursery after that room, too….someday.

  • Krista May 16, 2012, 3:00 pm

  • Laura @ My Pink Thumb May 16, 2012, 3:02 pm

OMG I absolutely LOVE this nursery Caitlin!! ..although I may be a tad partial because turquoise is my wedding colour and favourite colour! I actually even have the same nursery inspiration bookmarked for when I get pregnant! This room will now be added to my inspiration list. 😉

  • Jayhawk Jen May 16, 2012, 3:03 pm

Your nursey is one of the most darling rooms for a new baby that I have ever seen, and I’ve been around awhile! 😉 Congratulations and all the best wishes…

  • Abby May 16, 2012, 3:03 pm

I love this whole nursery, but hot dang that mural is AMAZING!! You have one talented MIL. I could never do something like that, but my SIL is actually pretty good at painting. Something to keep in mind for one day…. 🙂

  • Heather May 16, 2012, 3:05 pm

Love x 1000! We did the exact same thing for our bookshelves- velveteen rabbit included. 😉

  • Megan - NewlyWife May 16, 2012, 3:05 pm

First, you look STUNNING! Really, you’re just glowing, I love it!

Second, I love your nursery, you did such an amazing job. The trees your MIL did are amazing – so wish I knew of someone who could do that.

  • Nikki @ only25hoursinaday May 16, 2012, 3:08 pm

So beautiful – I absolutely love that turquoise color, and the mural is amazing.

I have to disagree with you though – Love you Forever is the most heartbreaking! It breaks my heart {in a good way} everytime I read it!!!! I have a 4YO son, so it reminds me of us 🙂

    • Caitlin May 18, 2012, 9:57 am

omg i read I love you forever to myself the other night and cried hysterically.

  • Kelley May 16, 2012, 3:09 pm

The nursery is beautiful! I love how you hung those lanterns from the ceiling. What a great idea! I realized that I have nothing above my changing table for baby to look at! I have to get on that. =) Nice job, decorating!!!

  • Earthy Nicole May 16, 2012, 3:10 pm

I love the room, Caitlin! It’s just really peaceful looking. I think my favorite parts of the room are the mural and the mobile… so custom and creative! Oh and I love the blanket — it reminds me of one my mom crocheted a long time ago.

I’m sure you already have plans to put plugs in the outlets before the baby is mobile but it’s so funny how my eye was drawn to it… guess that’s the mommy in me. “Oooh pretty room, pretty mobile, OMG look at that outlet!” Haha…

    Great job, Caitlin!
    xx

  • Kate K May 16, 2012, 3:10 pm

So, I’m 29 but would it be possible to move into your nursery? 😀 I love what you’ve done with it and I’m sure Baby HTP will be happy as a little clam there!

  • Ashley May 16, 2012, 3:12 pm

Your nursery looks amazing! I love the mural. I was due two days after you and my daughter is now 8 days old! She is doing great but needless to say she will be coming home to a half finished nursery… 🙂

  • Erin May 16, 2012, 3:17 pm

I want a mobile like that for myself! Haha. Does your mother-in-law do a lot of room painting? I recently moved to Charlotte after grad school and am loving her work!

    • Caitlin May 18, 2012, 10:00 am

That was actually her first wall painting/mural!

  • Ingunn May 16, 2012, 3:20 pm

You’re looking great!! And that nursery is wonderful, especially the mural. I’ve seen a lot of similar designs on Pinterest, but with vinyl decals – having your mother-in-law paint it makes it so much more special.

  • Amanda @ Veggies n Dogs May 16, 2012, 3:21 pm

That is one of the most beautiful nurseries ever! That Daschund nite light totally rocks!

  • Cheryl May 16, 2012, 3:21 pm

  • Rachel May 16, 2012, 3:22 pm

It looks so great! I am due in October and my mind is just starting to think bout nurseries. I love so many of the personal elements you included!

  • Kamaile May 16, 2012, 3:24 pm

  • Jessica May 16, 2012, 3:25 pm

I love the nursery! It really does look fantastic! The mobile is seriously SO cool — I’ve never seen anything like it.

  • Ashley May 16, 2012, 3:26 pm

Oh my gosh, what a BEAUTIFUL nursery! All of the love and care really shows throughout the room. The mural is gorgeous and I love the colors throughout. What an amazing room.

  • Kendra @ My Full-Thyme Life May 16, 2012, 3:28 pm

Oh, Caitlin! It is positively lovely! You did a wonderful job and so did your mother-in-law and other family and friends! I remember after my shower how simply overwhelming (I mean that in a good way) it felt to have so many people that loved my baby as much as I did and he wasn’t even here yet!!! The power of love from family and friends is the best thing in the whole world. BabyHTP is very lucky!

  • Brie May 16, 2012, 3:28 pm

Gorgeous! We’re still putting our nursery together and it’s such a fun project.

  • Amber @ Busy, Bold, Blessed May 16, 2012, 3:35 pm

  • Erin May 16, 2012, 3:42 pm

    you nursery is beautiful!

  • Claire Zulkey May 16, 2012, 3:48 pm

ugh I hate you!! (Said with loving envy.) We just finished decorating our guest bedroom about a year ago and are basically too lazy to redo it for our dumb baby (it’s currently a light green color and has a lot of framed illustrations of birds everywhere, which we think seems pretty good-enough for a nursery.) But your cute, modern, gorgeous nursery is making me think we should be more ambitious. Damn you!! 😉

    • Caitlin May 18, 2012, 10:01 am

      dumb babies 😉

  • Jess May 16, 2012, 3:50 pm

Oh my goodness…love, love, LOVE the nursery!!! Also, this makes me feel a little better about getting everything together for our nursery–I’m almost 23 weeks and we haven’t been able to do much yet. I know you guys had some delays due to timing on the purchase of your home. Thanks for the inspiration! 🙂

  • Corrie Anne May 16, 2012, 3:56 pm

So exciting! So beautiful. my favorite parts are the bookshelf and the daschund night light!!

  • Laura is Undeterrable May 16, 2012, 3:57 pm

I think it might be a sign that you kept saying “3 weeks…”

Love #1- the bookcase. So cute and it’s storage that doubles as decor!

Love #2 – The color scheme. Very calm! Hopefully BabyHTP will be extra calm in there for you guys.

Love #3 – Your mom’s painting ability. Wow!

What does the husband think of the room?

  • Jamie May 16, 2012, 3:57 pm

OH MY GOSH that’s incredible Caitlin! Just beautiful! I love gender-neutral nurseries – I think I might still do grey or pale green even if I have a girl someday – and this one is amazing! Great job!!!

  • Ashley O. @ The Vegetable Life May 16, 2012, 4:09 pm

the mural may just be the most beautiful thing I have EVER seen!!!! I love love love it all! The color scheme is gorgeous!

  • Kelli May 16, 2012, 4:17 pm

The nursery is adorable, but you are even more so!
I think you look amazing & also you look well rested. 🙂 I’m in a pregnancy phase of not much sleeping so I’m a little jealous of the latter.
Ha! Hopefully I look as fab as you in 10 weeks!

  • Emily May 16, 2012, 4:19 pm

Wow, that looks amazing! I’m really impressed! That’s a hidden skill you have right there. 🙂

  • emily May 16, 2012, 4:27 pm

Holy frick, Caitlin, that is awesome! I love every single detail. I want the lantern and dog light in MY room. My future (far far future) nursey is probably going to use gray for the base color as well.

  • Julie May 16, 2012, 4:29 pm

LOVE the nursery! It’s just awesome! I hope you really enjoy your glider, but it reminded me of kind of a funny story. My daughter is now 12, but I got a baby swing from husband’s sisters at one of my showers. It was one of those manual wind up ones (they probably don’t even make them anymore). Well, I exchanged it & spent a lot of $$ to upgrade to the automatic, musical Lexus of baby swings ‘cuz I just knew that was one of the items we were really gonna use a lot. As you’ve probably guessed, she hated it. I think she sat in it maybe twice! 🙂

  • whitney May 16, 2012, 4:37 pm

When i saw the pic of the nursery, I thought that was the picture you based your nursery off of – not of the actual nursery. That is a catalog quality nursery. Kudos to your mom!

  • Mo May 16, 2012, 4:37 pm

Wow, i’m jealous of your creativity and decorating skills. The nursery is gorgeous!

I’m 32 weeks along and in the not sleeping and constant heartburn stage. I’m getting acupuncture tomorrow, so Im hoping that will help ;-).

  • Britton May 16, 2012, 4:40 pm

I LOVE your nursery!!! It is absolutely adorable!!!

  • Erica May 16, 2012, 4:47 pm

Such a beautiful room, and it kind of reminds me of our nursery! We have grey walls + white furniture, and our accents colors are teal and green (we have a boy, so there is also a light robot theme). I also have those SAME two prints, just in different colors! Haha 🙂 You are glowing!

  • Clare @ Fitting It All In May 16, 2012, 4:47 pm

CUTEST NURSERY EVER. Seriously – looks professionally designed. I adore the mural and the ceiling hanging is so creative!

  • Ley May 16, 2012, 4:48 pm

LOVE the nursery! Replace the crib with a bed and I’ll take it as my own room 🙂

  • Tricia May 16, 2012, 4:52 pm

  • Leslie May 16, 2012, 5:03 pm

Absolutely beautiful! Every little detail is just beautiful. It is so sweet that the grandmothers were able to both contribute in such a lovely way. So glad you guys were able to get into a home of your own. The pride of ownership shows in every room.

  • Michelle May 16, 2012, 5:07 pm

Love the nightlight! I did a double take when I glimpsed it out of the corner of my eye, but sure enough, it’s a sweet daschund! Congrats

  • Crystal May 16, 2012, 5:12 pm

I love it! It’s definitely a room that can grow with the kid too. My 3 year old would love it.

  • Leah May 16, 2012, 5:14 pm

I love your nursery!! I was leaning towards a yellow/gray scheme, but I am torn now. I think the mobile is a great idea too, I bet your baby will love to stare at it!

  • Carrie H May 16, 2012, 5:17 pm

Hi Caitlin! I haven’t commented in awhile but I’m still reading, of course. 🙂

Aaaaaand … I’m eight weeks pregnant myself now. We had some bumps in the road, but I’m so excited! And, after reading this (okay, not just this, but after reading EVERYTHING), I am also TOTALLY TERRIFIED. We were trying, of course, but the reality of it all feels so overwhelming right now, ha.

Seriously, though, this is beautiful, and your little one will be even more beautiful than his or her nursery.

    Sending love.

    • Caitlin May 18, 2012, 10:02 am

Congrats Carrie! It will be great.

  • Vanessa (@IsleStyleLiving) May 16, 2012, 5:24 pm

A gorgeous nursery! I’d choose many of the same colors and furnishings myself. Love the dachschund light, how unique and cool.

  • Lauren May 16, 2012, 6:37 pm

  • Jen May 16, 2012, 7:26 pm

I absolutely love everything about the nursery! Your MIL has done an incredible job with the mural – I can’t imagine there being much more to finish on it. What a fabulous room!

    Your nursery is beautiful.

  • Sooze May 16, 2012, 7:45 pm

aww, i love your nursery. i love the mural, and i also saw and loved the prints you got on etsy. I really wanted to buy them for my best friend when she and her hubs were creating their nursery, but i didn’t pull the trigger. at any rate, you guys did a fab job — I might have to use this post as inspiration at some future date 🙂

  • Angélica May 16, 2012, 8:04 pm

    Wow…what a beautiful nursery…your mother-in-law is a wonderful artist!!!!!

  • Rebecca May 16, 2012, 8:19 pm

You really need to put that on pinterest. It’s amazing. I bookmarked it in my phone as “best nursery ever”

  • Alaina May 16, 2012, 8:31 pm

The nursery is gorgeous!! I love the book idea where everyone gave you on of their childhood favorites. I want my kids to grow up reading classic books. 🙂

  • Carin May 16, 2012, 8:38 pm

You did say that maths isn’t your strong point! Love the “40 minus 36 is 4, not 3” 🙂 Or maybe it’s motherly intuition and you do only have 3 weeks to go! I wouldn’t be surprised… the nursey’s so beautiful that the baby’s bound to want to start enjoying it asap x

  • Dee @ Diary of Dee May 16, 2012, 8:45 pm

your baby has a more stylish bedroom than i have, i really need to step up my game!

  • allison May 16, 2012, 8:46 pm

so exciting!! A friend of mine came over the other day and we were talking about you and your pregnancy. Is that weird? haha. It was like we were talking about a close friend. I’ve really been enjoying following your baby journey!!

    • Caitlin May 18, 2012, 10:03 am

Aw thanks Allison 🙂 I appreciate it a lot!

  • Kelly May 16, 2012, 9:42 pm

It’s gorgeous! You guys did a phenomenal job, and all the little details are just as amazing. The baby is going to LOVE it <3

  • Michelle May 16, 2012, 11:44 pm

Okay, not reading through some 114 previous comments, but first of all the nursery is FAB! Love the colours! As for the carpal tunnel, I had it terribly with my first pregnancy and used phytolacca (a homeopathic) – maybe your hubby already has you on this but it seemed to help me. I later found an amazing massage therapist who worked on my neck/shoulders and CURED me of carpal tunnel forevermore. Hope you find some relief, I remember the agony I used to endure from about 8 p.m. onward everynight, ouch.

  • Leila @ Spinach and Skittles May 17, 2012, 12:17 am

I love the nursery! I have the same color palate for mine, but with yellow too.
That is so awesome that your mother-in-law painted the trees and the birds.

  • Colette May 17, 2012, 12:39 am

The room looks fantastic!! Congratulations and enjoy these next few weeks!

  • steph May 17, 2012, 1:39 am

    just lovely!

  • Katya May 17, 2012, 2:46 am

you are looking fantastic and the nursery is gorgeous! I don’t have any artistic or creative talents personally….my baby’s room is certainly not as ‘put together’…I am a little jealous! 🙂 but seriously, it’s gorgeous and I like that it isn’t too ‘baby-ish’ so you won’t need to redecorate right away once baby isn’t a baby anymore!
    also love the bookshelf idea!

  • Charity May 17, 2012, 5:48 am

I love the trees in your nursery! We rent so we weren’t allowed to paint but winnie the pooh removeable stickers found their way in the room.
I hear you on the baby clothes. I washed and folded my frist load last week and folding them felt like I was folding doll clothes. It seems like there is no possible way a human can fit into something so tiny!

  • Ali @ Super Mario Twins May 17, 2012, 8:06 am

I love your nursery and it is perfectly gender neutral! You may have already thought of this but you’re going to want a small side table next to your glider. I was never without my phone and big water cup when I was nursing my twins. Just sitting there for hours at a time can get a little boring, so I watched four seasons of Mad Men on my phone!

  • Laura May 17, 2012, 8:58 am

I LOVE the bookshelf idea! Stealing this idea from you- THANK YOU! Question- what are the lengths of the shelves you have?

    • Caitlin May 18, 2012, 10:03 am

They are the shorter ones. The long ones wouldn’t fit into that space.

  • Sara May 17, 2012, 9:18 am

Love the nursery. Come decorate mine when the time comes, OK? 🙂

  • Katie May 17, 2012, 9:24 am

Gorgeous! Your mother-in-law did an amazing job! Wow!

I completely understand the glider obsession. I researched, obsessed, and sat in different gliders for a month before I finally made a decision. SO glad to be done with that!

  • K May 17, 2012, 10:08 am

    VERY cute nursery!

  • Mary Carol Reddick May 17, 2012, 10:14 am

Wow! Beyond amazing… I love everything about your nursery!! I love it all “comes together”….
looks like it all belongs in there! The mural is sooo wonderful… i totally want one… :)…. Pooh looks so at home amongst the trees… and I love how like you said, so much love from family and friends went into it…. so happy/excited for you, hubs & da bebe!!! 🙂

  • Elizabeth @ reads recipes runs May 17, 2012, 10:19 am

I am going to crack up if you DO have the baby in three weeks 🙂

You’re lucky you have a husband who likes design stuff, mine doesn’t care nor does he think it is worth spending money on. Boo!

  • Laura May 17, 2012, 10:42 am

What a beautiful space! Best wishes for the arrival of Baby Boyle!

  • healthy ashley May 17, 2012, 12:07 pm

    Caitlin, it looks SO GOOD!!!!

  • Stephanie May 17, 2012, 12:09 pm

Oh it turned out SO CUTE!! We are also not going to find out the sex beforehand and trying to figure out decor is hard…you don’t see too many gender neutral nursery ideas out there these days. Love the dark gray walls and the chevron details! Oh and the lantern mobile is awesome!

  • Maura @ My Healthy 'Ohana May 17, 2012, 12:33 pm

I love the blue and grey combo, so unique for a nursery! I actually think the darkness of the grey makes the room feel really cozy. We’re looking for a new crib for baby #2 and I’m so glad you mentioned you got yours at Wal-mart, what a great deal!

  • Jen @ The Well Read Fish May 17, 2012, 1:34 pm

    1. I love that lantern mobile and I’ve just bookmarked it for when I have a kid. . . no, I’m not even pregnant.

    2. I can’t believe your M-I-L painted that. It’s perfect. I thought it was a wall decal.
    Lovely lovely lovely.

  • Jess @ Truly.Into.Fitness May 17, 2012, 1:53 pm

Oh my gosh Caitlin!!! That nursery is just BEAUTIFUL!!! Good work!!!

  • AmandaonMaui May 17, 2012, 2:50 pm

That’s a really nice nursery. Gliders actually freak me out for little babies because they seem like they’d pinch fingers more than a rocker.

The Velveteen Rabbit was one of my favorite movies as a child. I never actually read the book. But, I had a VHS at my grandma’s house (and she had one of those old VCRs that was top loading). I’d rush to put it in whenever I was there. I’d watch it while eating a bowl of grits or Cookie Crisp. Thanks grandma!

  • Amber K May 17, 2012, 3:07 pm

Wow, now that takes some decorating talent! I have zero ability to make stuff that looks that awesome. While I want to find out the sex of any baby I’ll have as soon as it’s possible to do so, I still love the idea of a gender neutral room.

  • Alison (Fueling for Fitness) May 17, 2012, 4:55 pm

What a gorgeous, beautiful room!!!! 🙂 I’m so excited for you!

  • Kerry May 17, 2012, 5:48 pm

Beautiful! I’ve been waiting for this.

I just realized looking through your post that another added benefit of not knowing your child’s sex before birth is that they aren’t born into a world that is already designed for their supposed gender identity. Maybe your baby boy will love pink 🙂 Or maybe your baby girl wants monster trucks for her birthday! Either way, I really support the idea of breaking down gender stereotypes and teaching your child that even if she does love pink, other kids are allowed to love whatever they love!

    Good luck and congratulations!

  • Mai May 17, 2012, 9:17 pm

Wow, it’s absolutely beautiful! And the mural is AMAZING.

  • Jolene (www.everydayfoodie.ca) May 17, 2012, 9:39 pm

That nursery is incredible!!! I am so impressed 🙂 You two did a FABULOUS job!

  • Maren May 17, 2012, 10:08 pm

So did you end up not getting a floor rug then? I didn’t see one… It looks amazing without one though! Wow, your MIL is amazing!! The mural is incredible.

    • Caitlin May 18, 2012, 10:04 am

Yeah – I skipped the rug. The carpet is so soft anyway!

  • Leslie May 25, 2012, 5:23 am

Beautiful nursery. I am not a girly girl, and my husband was all ready to dress our daughter, Frances, in black and skulls & crossbones (he pretends to be bad arse:). Then out popped this girl with a complete mind of her own. She squeals at all things pink and girly. So, we thought, “What the hey. We’ll just let her personality shine through.” And even though Frances is the total opposite of her loving mom and dad, we wouldn’t have her any other way. I do draw the line at the “princess” items and that mentality in general. My point–you never know what you’re going to get, and you’re going to love him/her more than you EVER thought possible. Congratulations–you’re going to love it!

  • Ashley June 2, 2012, 11:24 pm

One of the most perfectly done nurseries I’ve seen. I’m in love with the colors. You have just the right amount of things going on in the room. Love every bit of it!

  • Maggie June 28, 2012, 9:28 pm

I love your nursery!!! These are my colors that I’m wanting with maybe a tiny touch of olive too. I’m seriously considering trying to paint a mural in like this for ours. Does your mom have any tips? I completely understand being overwhelmed by picking out a rocker glider! I wanted to ask how yours has held up since actually having your baby. Do you still like it? Is it comfy enough, does it squeak or anything? Do you use it as much as you thought you would? I’m still trying to decide how much we really want to spend on one.

    • Caitlin June 29, 2012, 1:24 pm

I haven’t used it too much bc Henry is still in our room at night but I do really love it. I think it’s awesome for the cost. No squeaks and very comfy.

  • Dana October 7, 2012, 8:55 pm

While looking for crib sheets today, I cam across these: http://www.babybedding.com/gray-zoology-crib-sheet
There expensive, but I couldn’t resist sharing! They’re so Henry’s nursery!

    • Caitlin October 7, 2012, 9:24 pm

      Those are super cute.

  • Heidi June 21, 2013, 4:50 pm

Did you find much relief for the carpal tunnel? I am 35 wks and numb hands just started to get really bad….driving me crazy!

    • Caitlin June 21, 2013, 7:05 pm

Acupuncture and wrist supports at night really helped!

  • Yiching January 9, 2015, 11:00 pm

I’m so happy that you also choose a darker grey colour for the nursery! I was a bit concerned after my husband painted our baby girl’s nursery. It seemed a lot lighter, but once it dried, it was darker than I expected. But I like I you brighten it up with decor! It gives me some inspirations. =)

Beautiful! Congrats on your soon to be baby! I’m at 23 weeks now!
