Wise words for the start of the week (thanks, Carin!):

IMG_8825

(Well, I hear Sunday is actually the first day of the week, but I still feel like Sunday is the last day, making Monday day #1!)

Good morning and happy Monday.  I don’t know how the weather is where you are, but we’re blessed with Carolina blue skies and a chill in the air.  A perfect end-of-April morning.

Running, A Cool Grand, and Pets

It’s that time again… FAQ Monday.  And I’m giving away two more copies of the upcoming Healthy Tipping Point book (which, by the way, comes out next Tuesday!).

IMG_8827

James read it and says it’s pretty good. Winking smile

Would you rather have the ability to run impressively fast for short distances or moderately paced for very long distances and never get sore?  I would rather be able to run long distances and never get sore. When I sign up for a race, I do this weird calculation in my head for cost per mile or minute of race time.  Paying $30 for a 5K always fries me because that’s like, $10 a mile!  But $75 for a marathon?  A mere $2.85 or so.  So, although running impressively fast would be pretty cool, I’d get my money’s worth at longer races.  Hah!  Also – it’s easier to find running buddies when you’re a moderately paced runner.

If you had an extra $1,000 but you had to give it away to someone else, who would you give it to and why?  I would probably break it up and distribute the money out as ridiculous tips to nice waiters or waitresses.  I worked as a bartender in college and it was a tough job – nice, helpful people working in food service deserve our love.

What pets have you owned over your lifetime?  The pets that I can remember, in order:  I’ve owned a bird named Baby, a cat named Kitty, a fish named Rad Dude, hamsters named Salt and Pepper (it was the 1990s…), a cat named Fred, another fish named Clifford, and dogs named Bejui, Louie, and – of course – Maggie and James.  I also had four other cats growing up, but they were more my mom’s cats than mine (I’m not really a cat person save for Kitty and Fred).  Their names were Matilda, Baby Billie Blue Jean Blue, Thomasina Daughter of Tom Cat, and Mini Me.  I’m not joking regarding those ridiculous names.

Your turn – answer one (or all) of the FAQ Monday questions, and I’ll pick two random winners to receive a copy of the the upcoming Healthy Tipping Point book.

If I had an extra $1,000 I would give it to my mom. She is such an amazing woman who has done nothing but give her entire life. She raised 4 daughters, went back to school, and now went back to work as well. She deserves to have some extra money to go on a nice trip or do whatever she pleases with!

  • emily April 23, 2012, 10:38 am

My answers to 1 and 2 are practically identical to yours. Though my extreme slowness means I do get a little more bang for my buck in a 5k!

  • Steph @ A Life without Ice Cream April 23, 2012, 10:38 am

That morning sky looks lovely! Here in Ottawa we’re having some unseasonable snow this am (ick!)

    The questions:
    1) Totally long distances!
    2) For a $1000 I think I would probably give it to a couple charities.
    3) As for pets, have had cat’s, dogs, rabbits, but the best was my turtle. When I was super little (like 4, 5, 6) I used to get a mud turtle from the pond ever spring, keep him over the summer and put him back in the fall so he could hibernate. I named him ralph. Every summer. Ralph. Legitimately thought it was the same turtle 😛

    Happy Monday!!

  • Jamie @ Don't Forget the Cinnamon April 23, 2012, 10:39 am

I’d rather be a super speedy runner!
I’m not much of a long distance runner–5k and 10ks are more my scene–and I’d love to be even faster at those.

I love your calculation of race cost per mile! I’d never though of it that way.

  • HTPDad April 23, 2012, 10:39 am

Sunday IS the last day of the week, to give you one more shot at your training goals for the week.

  • julie @ peanut butter fingers April 23, 2012, 10:39 am

i have owned a ridiculous number of animals over the course of my life. a bunny (snuggles), guinea pig (cinnamon – “cinny”), hamster (harold), gerbils (we had so many that they were named after the entire chicago bulls basketball team), great dane (missy), cats (tiger and smokey), fish (arthur) and my current pet is my beloved crazy sadie (a vizsla).

  • Kellie April 23, 2012, 10:40 am

If I had an extra $1000 I would put it in the mailbox of a family I know who is struggling. It would be fun to have extra money and be able to secretly leave it for people.

  • Sara April 23, 2012, 10:41 am

I like your idea for the extra $1,000! We always try to tip 20 percent to waiters and waitresses. Pets I’ve owned: a cat named Kallie, a hermit crab named Hermin, another cat named Opie, a goldfish named Jaws and our currents pets–Buffy and Jasper (dogs), and our cats Medlin, George and Zelda.

  • Kathy K April 23, 2012, 10:44 am

If I had an extra $1000, I would give it to my family so they could fly up to see my daughter get married this Saturday.

    • Caitlin April 23, 2012, 10:45 am

If I had an $1000, I would give it to your family, too 🙁

  • AML April 23, 2012, 10:44 am

I have a totally unrelated question, I hope you don’t mind! I’m planning a natural birth (at home actually) and was wondering if you have found the Bradley classes to be worth the cost. My insurance will pay for a hospital course, but it is a one day course geared to those delivering in hospital. The Bradley classes are 12 weeks long and $350 out of pocket. My biggest concern is feeling prepared, but the Bradley classes are a huge money and time commitment. I’m willing to do this if they are worth it, but I was wondering your opinion as you are actively enrolled in them. Thanks!

    • Caitlin April 23, 2012, 10:52 am

This is a good question, and I’m definitely going to write about this when I do my Bradley final post (I might do one before and after birth). Anywho, I think the classes have been nice, as it keeps me on track with the homework and it’s something that the husband and I get to do together. Also, I think it’s good for the Husband who is more of an auditory learner than a reader. However, that being said, I don’t think the actual classes are 100% necessary. Nice, but not necessary. The following books ARE necessary:

      The Womanly Art of Breastfeeding
Natural Childbirth the Bradley Way (amazing) <-- especially if you follow all the homework in the book and maybe read it straight through once and then go chapter-by-chapter with your husband or birth partner. Husband-Coached Childbirth So I don't think attending the classes can hurt, but if it's a financial strain or a huge time issue, I don't think you can't train yourself to go Bradley. I do think that having access to blogs and being able to talk to other mommas helps, too. If you ever have any questions about Bradley, feel free to ask me.

  • Kelly April 23, 2012, 10:44 am

I would definitely rather run at a moderate pace for long distances and never get sore. Slow and steady wins the race!

  • Michelle April 23, 2012, 10:48 am

I totally had a cat named Thomasina too!

On that note, I’ve had cats named: Tom and Jerry, Thomasina, Diamond (and her kittens, for a bit) and then Socks…We were cat people for awhile! We had a dog named Brandy for about a week– she was just too big for my baby sister at the time, so we had to take her back to the Humane Society. And then came our shih tzu, Buster, our cat Cinderella and then Bentley, our other shih tzu…The only animal I’VE ever “owned” personally is my dog Oliver Ross. (After Ross on Friends!)

  • Liz April 23, 2012, 10:52 am

    1. Moderate, for sure.
    2. Love your idea of leaving good tips!
    3. This will be fun…
Cats: Tiger, Daffy, Jasmine, Baby, Dinah, Chris, Pumpkin, Viggo.
Dogs: Cozy, Sunset, Ivy, Ginger, Panda, Birch, Haven, Gypsy, Susie, Miles.
Buns: Babs, Oliver, Persephone, Asher, Noah.

  • MichelleC April 23, 2012, 10:54 am

I would give the money to the doggy day care where we take our dog (Maggie). Maggie has fear aggresion after being attacked about 2 years ago. Luckily she can still go to day care (it has remained okay, even though outside of day care she doesn’t interact with dogs). The owners and staff are wonderful and deal so wonderfully with Maggie even with all of her issues. They do an amazing job, I would want to them to have a staff party and then buy something that they need.

  • Shannon April 23, 2012, 10:55 am

Those skies look gorgeous! Warm but rainy in Boston last two days!

I would definitely rather be moderate pace and long distance. I run for enjoyment and never have or never will care about how fast I am. It is nice to beat PR but I always go out with the just for fun mentality. Plus I agree it is SO much easier to find moderate pace friends than fast ones.

I would find a family locally (all about helping locally) that needs it and anonymously put it in their mailbox with a unsigned note.

  • Lili April 23, 2012, 11:01 am

I would run for very long distances, so I could see more along the way : )

  • Lindsey April 23, 2012, 11:01 am

I would rather be able to run long distances and not get sore. I enjoy running for longer periods of time but being able to enjoy the actual run and not speeding through it.

  • Hillary April 23, 2012, 11:02 am

I would probably give the money to my brother—he has an obscene amount of money to pay back in law school loans and can take all the help he can get!

  • Michelle M April 23, 2012, 11:03 am

Toby the dog, Wild Thing the goldfish (he lived for 7+ years!), numerous other goldfish that did NOT live for 7+ years, Buffy the dog, Sandy the hermit crab, Cinnamon the hamster, Smokey the hamster, Magic the cat, Peaches the cat, Oreo the cat, and Bruce, Salty, and Electra the goldfish (which I saved from my biology class). Whew…

  • Emily H. April 23, 2012, 11:03 am

I have had a bunch of pets in my lifetime. I’ve had rabbits named Cocoa, Bubblegum (first pet!), Hoppy and a few others I can’t remember. My dogs were/ are named Moose, Alice, and Strand. My cats that still live with my parents are Louie and Pinky. I’ve had goats named Almond, Pappy, Tucker, and Beavis and sheep named Twiglet, Sally, Bonnie, Clyde, Starsky, Hutch, Fern, Melvin, Lambchop, and Shorty. my hermit crabs were Sebastian and Houdini. My guinea pigs were Zippity, Rosey, Snickers, and Alfred. I’ve also had a gerbil named Cinnamon and a hamster whose name I can’t remember. There was also Klondike the mouse who lived in our house for a few hour before Louie found him :(. The only pet I have now that lives with me is my dachshund Gunther. Holy cow, I’ve had a lot of pets!

  • Catalina @ Cake with Love April 23, 2012, 11:03 am

For me Monday is also the first day of the week! now to the answers: 1. I would prefer to run super fast short distances, I don’t like anything more than 5 miles, and when I run I try to be really fast so this will help!
    2. I would give the money to cancer patients in Moldova, I even started a blog to be able to help them, also I asked my hudband not to by me a birthday gift but to donate the money to the
    hospital!!
    3. I had a lot of pets, several dogs and cats a parrot and a big aquarium with different types of fish!

  • Elizabeth @ reads recipes runs April 23, 2012, 11:05 am

My very first pet I had was a parakeet names Fluffy who I was secretly terrified of. We had a family dog, Carmen, who was a golden retreiver, I had a dog named April for a while in high school, and now I have a puppy named Aurora and she is amazing!

  • Claire April 23, 2012, 11:06 am

So…. I am going to pick up on this being that I am currently a student at “the U”….

Apple and Orange ==== Green and Orange??? haha
    =)

    • Caitlin April 23, 2012, 11:09 am

      YES!

  • Amye April 23, 2012, 11:07 am

I would rather be able to run long distances. I would probably give the money to local charities. Thanks for the chance to win your book!

  • Ashlyn April 23, 2012, 11:10 am

    Pets I have owned:

Dogs named Zekie, Sprinkles, Lady, Dude, Papoo, & Gibson; cats named Wilbur, Moseley, & Itty Kitty. Nothing outside the cats/dogs norm, although my dad had several horses that I didn’t really do anything to help with…

  • Elizabeth April 23, 2012, 11:11 am

We’re such a cat family! My parents had two when I was a baby, Nellie and Choppy (short for Tchoupitoulas, a street in New Orleans, where we live). Then came Heidi, and when Heidi died a few years back we got Charlie, who we still have. Along the way we got our first dog Toby, although sadly she just died recently 🙁 and we’ve also had some turtles along the way, who escape and now are probably still living in the yard somewhere.

  • Hayley April 23, 2012, 11:12 am

I would give the $1000 to my friend who has cancer and is currently on chemo. She’s really struggling with money right now and I really want to help her.

  • Alyssa @ Don't Look Down April 23, 2012, 11:13 am

Now I understand where you get your pet naming habits. If I had an extra $1000 I think I would give it to my friend who is battling cancer right now!

  • Jenn (Be YOU at Be Me) April 23, 2012, 11:13 am

My first pet were fishes, Mathew, Mark, Luke and John. My second pet is a 3 year old rescue dog. Poor guy didn’t have a name but he does now…Plato! Love pets!

  • Nikki T April 23, 2012, 11:13 am

Pets…I had a couple gold fish when I was really young- I named them Nikki (after myself) and Janice (after my best friend at the time)…I know, very original and clever names 😉
We had 2 love birds that were the family pets, they were named Ricky and Lucy after the Wierd Al version of the song “Mickey”.
My husband and I now have a chocolate lab named Bella, who is by far my favorite pet!

  • Jill Will Run April 23, 2012, 11:14 am

Definitely the moderately-paced long distance running. I feel so much more accomplished after doing long runs!

Do I have to give the $1000 to an individual, or can it go to a charity? If it’s the charity, I would probably donate it to the American Cancer Society. If it’s an individual, I’d find a way to sneak it to a gal I know through ED recovery who is a single mom to 3 girls.

Pets: We had two labs when I was little and through my childhood: Sammi and Cocoa. Then we had a mutt named Dusty, then a beagle/basset hound named PJ and I have a boxer now named Jade. We also had a white cat named Lucky, but after she had kittens and we kept one of the kittens, she became Mama Cat and the other one was Baby Cat. My brother and I also got kittens when we were kids and named them Fred and Barney.

  • Joy April 23, 2012, 11:15 am

I would love to be able to run for long distances without getting sore. Oh how I would love that.

I would divide up the $1,000 and give the money to no-kill animal shelters.

I’ve had many pets while growing up..dogs, cats, and a rabbit. My husband and I now have two cats (brothers we found abandoned when they were just 6 weeks old) and they are my loves!

Thanks for the chance to win!

  • Carly April 23, 2012, 11:16 am

Over my lifetime I have owned 6 dogs (well, 4 were my family’s growing up). My first 2 were schnauzers – Alex and then Cody. Then our family got a welsh terrier named Maggie, then an irish terrier named Riley. Now I have my own two dogs Molly and Sawyer, both the CUTEST westies ever!!!

  • Maija April 23, 2012, 11:19 am

omg we had so many pets growing up our friends knew our house as ‘the zoo’ when I was little! We’ve had 8 dogs, 7 cats, a rat named Minnie, 2 birds, 2 horses, and lots o’ fish scattered throughout. We lived on a farm so my dad came home with stray dogs all the time and stray cats were always showing up too. It was wild but I wouldn’t have wanted my childhood any other way!

  • Ashley April 23, 2012, 11:22 am

Oh, I loved your idea about tipping waitstaff! I also waited tables (for 8 years!!!) so I know how helpful those surprisingly large tips could be!!!
But for me, my immediate thought of where to give the money was to a charity (does that count??) I’m passionate about animal charities, in particular, and would probably find a charity that works to rehabilitate “problem dogs” into society (a la Mike Vick dogs, etc.) I’ve always had big dogs branded as “scary breeds” (pitt bulls, rottweilers, and german shephards), so I feel pretty passionately that these animals are truly a product of how they are raised and are NOT inherently “bad.” I’d want my $$ to support an organization with similar beliefs!

  • Ginger April 23, 2012, 11:22 am

What pets have you owned over your lifetime? 1 cat named Muffin Stuffin, black Lab named Princess, another black lab named Boone, and a yellow lab named Buffy, and newest member is Basset Hound Bella 🙂

  • Maura April 23, 2012, 11:26 am

if I had a spare $1000 I’d give it to my brother. He’s in college and always is in need of new clothes and shoes (his always seem to be threadbare and worn), food (pretty sure he just eats ramen noodles) and money for rent. Plus he’s very frugal so I know he could make $1000 go a long way!

  • Amanda April 23, 2012, 11:26 am

I would much rather be able to run longer distances. I really want to run a half marathon someday!

  • Jessica April 23, 2012, 11:26 am

I’ve owned one or more of the following: cat, dog, rabbit, hamster, rat, mouse, turtle, newt, fish, snail, frog, toad… I was a little animal-obsessed growing up. 🙂 I hope to add a chicken and a cow to that list some day!

  • Ashley April 23, 2012, 11:28 am

Oh I would looove to run long distances and never get sore, that would be a very useful skill. If I had an extra $1,000 I would break it up between my 5 little siblings (I am almost 30 and they are all under the age of 12). They could have a lot of fun with it and I would be the super cool older sis.

In my lifetime I have had a cat named Kit Kat, several goldfish, a yellow lab named Ryan, an English Springer Spaniel named Luke (who was an awesome hunting dog and made it to age 16 last year! RIP), Maxamillian & Otto, 2 short haired doxies, the best of friends, and my current pup Lem, who was supposed to max out at 40lbs, and is currently hovering around 70…I think he’s part St. Bernard, he’s the best mutt ever!

  • Krissy April 23, 2012, 11:29 am

I have had the pleasure of sharing my life with a lot of pets. It took me awhile to come up with a list, dogs: Beau, Katie, Apache, Sonny, Rosie, Cherry, Maggie, Tucker and 100 or so fosters that hung out for brief (or longer periods of time) I’m lucky to have gotten to know many breeds from chihuahuas to Rottweilers! I also had two cats growing up, Missy and Danny, two bunnies and assorted fish and a hermit crab names Arnold. I also just adopted a cat around thanksgiving time and his name is Augustus Cesare (Gus). I hope I didn’t forget anyone! I loved them all!

Can’t wait for the new book!

  • Allison K April 23, 2012, 11:29 am

    Pets I have owned:
    Cats: sparkle and orange cat
Sheep: tootsie roll pop and bo peep
Dogs: Suzy, angel, princess, taz, Zoe, duke, Lucy, and vandal
    Rat: moon
And my parents own chickens. They are purely pets and my parents sell the eggs, an never butcher for meat. They would be terrible for eAting. We have only named 3 of the chickens over the years: lemon, crooky, and fog horn leg horn!

  • christina April 23, 2012, 11:30 am

I have never had a pet but I want a kitten!

  • Beki @ MissWheezy April 23, 2012, 11:30 am

I’ve only had two pets in my life- two kittens who were brothers and totally adorable. My Mum however named them Mercury and Jupiter!! Crazy…

  • Marisa April 23, 2012, 11:31 am

What pets have you owned over your lifetime?
Growing up I had a Shetland sheepdog names Brodie, but he was older than I was! Once I was in university I bought a red fish and named him Rooney (after the football start of course – which I think fits well with today’s wise words ;). Just over a year ago, I got the sweetest, most amazing dog! He is a Samoyed (yes the kind that looks like a smiling white teddy bear!) named Pullo and I could not have asked for a better dog. I am always amazed at home much joy and laugher he has brought into our home!

  • Tina April 23, 2012, 11:32 am

If I had $1000 to give away, I’d use it to buy a bunch of ice cream cones…and then I’d stand on the sidewalk and give them away to passers-by!

  • Cat April 23, 2012, 11:32 am

I would definitely give the $1000 to my mom. My stepdad passed away in February so she now is taking care of their business all by herself & having to learn the aspect that my stepdad did, plus she is the sole caretaker for my older brother who has Muscular Dystrophy. She does much more yet rarely complains so to just help her out a little bit I would give $1000 to her.

  • Katie @ Peace Love & Oats April 23, 2012, 11:33 am

I definitely would choose longer distances! Haha I LOVE getting that medal at the end!

  • Allison April 23, 2012, 11:33 am

If I could give away 1000 dollars it would be to my mom. She has supported me and helped me more then anyone. She is amazing and is the only one working since my dad was diagnosed with ALS.
I would also pick run long distance and not get sore!
I’ve had lots of animals usually dogs – rocky, Oscar, and Apollo. Cat’s – mittens, grumpy, shadow, baloo, max, Malcolm, Abby, and many more:)

  • Lissa April 23, 2012, 11:34 am

If I had $1000, I would split it up and give it to my younger siblings (5 of them!). One is getting married, 2 are in college and 2 are in high school…I’m sure they could use it well! 🙂

  • Sarah @ The Strength of Faith April 23, 2012, 11:34 am

I think I would rather run long distances – sort of goes with my “slow and steady wins the race” philosophy of life!

  • Coco April 23, 2012, 11:35 am

If I had an extra $1,000, I’d give it to my niece (6 months old) to put towards her future…so technically I’d give it to her parents? haha

  • Jess April 23, 2012, 11:36 am

If I had $1000 but had to give it away I’d definitely give it away to http://www.campsunshine.org/about_camp/ they do such amazing things for kids with terminal illnesses and their families….$1000 is 1/2 way to sponsoring a family!!!!!!

  • Robyn April 23, 2012, 11:36 am

If I had $1000 I would give it to Arijit, a friend of a friend who is dealing with colon cancer and has maxed out his health insurance: http://poopstrong.org/

It is so tragic to see someone so young and otherwise healthy have to raise money for his own cancer treatment. I’ve been pinching pennies and trying to come up with a more substantial donation for him.

  • Kristin April 23, 2012, 11:38 am

I would rather run long distances at a moderate pace. I think my legs agree! Nothing makes me feel more awesome than being able to run a little longer than I have been 🙂

  • Ley April 23, 2012, 11:39 am

I would definitely want to run long distances and never get sore. Running is such a mental escape for me and being able to do it for hours a day would be the best kind of therapy!

  • Sarah R April 23, 2012, 11:41 am

I would definitely pick running long distances!! I have my first half marathon this weekend, and my first half ironman in August!

  • Sarah April 23, 2012, 11:42 am

I’d rather run fast, short distances because my dog LOVES going on short, fast runs.

The $1000 would go to the MS Society. I’m doing a 5 mile MS Walk this weekend so it’s on my mind right now. I’ve raised over $600!

I had one dog and 4 cats at different times growing up. I adopted a hamster in college. And now I have a Jack Russel Terrier.

  • Rebecca April 23, 2012, 11:42 am

My first goldfish’s name was Fred. Or Barney. We named them something else, but my dad kept calling them Fred and Barney after The Flintstones. The names kind of stuck. My beta’s name was Buddy because I’m creative that way. We also had a puppy named Cooper, and now my sister has three or four fish (Leonard, Sheldon [Big Bang Theory], Steak [weird], and possibly a fourth.) and is taking care of a chinchilla. Whose name is Vlad. Short for Valdimir. Her betas had random names like Rainbow. I think one was named after a baseball player.

  • shanna April 23, 2012, 11:44 am

Moderately paced for long distances. Jealous of all the ultra runners out there!

  • Rachel C. April 23, 2012, 11:47 am

Moderate pace for long distances because I prefer long distances over short distances

  • Sarah Ford April 23, 2012, 11:50 am

    Yay another give away!

I would way rather be able to run long distances and not get sore- as I had to give up running due to knee issues and I definitely miss it!

If I had $1,000 to give away I’d give half to my sister and half to my boyfriend, as they are both in the process of starting their own businesses!

  • Eve April 23, 2012, 11:51 am

Definitely faster over short distances because I am the slowest runner ever (no lies) and it would be fun to see what being FAST feels like! Plus, I could still run longer distances at my usual plod, right? 🙂

  • Stefanie D. April 23, 2012, 11:52 am

First dog named Rags…then lots of cats named dummy, raisin, cheerio, wayne…now my current animals – Snuf – the wonder pup, 2 kitties – shaky and stormy.

  • Courtney April 23, 2012, 11:52 am

I’d much prefer to run at a moderate pace for long distances.

And if I had $1000 to give away, I’d give it to Make a Wish Foundation, or another similar charity.

  • cathy April 23, 2012, 11:53 am

If I had $1000 I had to give away I would find a single parent and pay for them to have a full day of being pampered followed by a meal of their choice.

  • Megan @ Striving for strides April 23, 2012, 11:56 am

What pets have you owned over your lifetime? I’ve had the following pets in my lifetime – Maggie (A west highland white terrier), Zoe (A german shepherd – we asked the in-laws to keep her after we received our military orders), Recon (a miniature dachshund who is now 6 years old), and Reagan (a miniature dachshund who is now 2). We still have our doxies – i love them to death!

  • Shannon April 23, 2012, 11:57 am

If I had a $1000 to give away, I would totally give it to my mom since she never takes the time or money to do nice things for herself, like go to movies, spas, out to dinner, etc. She deserves it!

  • Carly April 23, 2012, 11:58 am

I have only ever had 3 pets: a dog named Sampson, a cat named baby, and my cat now named Scot!

  • Stephanie April 23, 2012, 11:59 am

I’d rather be able to run faster for short distances, at least for now. I’m still relatively new to running; I’ve only run 5K-5M so far.

  • Laurel April 23, 2012, 12:00 pm

    1. Definitely long and slow, no question. I want to get more bang for my buck too!
    2. I love your idea of splitting it up into little bits! I’d probably give that money to my mom’s best friend. She works so hard and still struggles everyday to support her children, giving her a second of relief would be so worth it.
    3. Just too dogs! Dolly and Albus (can you tell I went from loving dolls to loving Harry Potter?)

  • Stephanie April 23, 2012, 12:01 pm

I would not want to give up getting sore. I sort of like the feeling of being sore the next day after running (or working out some other way) really hard. It makes me feel proud of myself for really pushing myself. And it would be cool to run really fast.

And pets, I had a dog growing up and now a cat. We also had a whole bunch of tropical fish but only the one really big sucker fish got a name. The whale.

  • abbi April 23, 2012, 12:01 pm

I’m with you on wanting to be able to run long distances. I’ve had multiple pets growing up my whole life. I have three dogs right now and then as a kid had 1 dog and 6 cats over the years plus lots of fish, hermit crabs, gerbils, etc.

  • katrina v April 23, 2012, 12:03 pm

If I had an extra $1000 to give, I’d give it to my mom. She’s so unconditionally generous and caring; she deserves every penny!

  • Meg April 23, 2012, 12:08 pm

    1. Definitely long distances at a moderate pace.

    2. I would give the money to my boyfriend who is just finishing grad school and will need to start repaying school loans.

    3. A dog when I was younger named Autumn, some fish as a kid, one hermit crab that was very creatively named Hermie, and I now have one very loved pup named Tuffy.

  • Kerry April 23, 2012, 12:09 pm

I would choose to be able to run long distances without getting sore. I’ve always been a distance swimmer, and I think that translates into my running style. Rather than pump out some fast intervals (in the pool or on land) I much prefer to just stay steady for as long as I can go. My body was built for endurance, not for speed 🙂

  • Rachel April 23, 2012, 12:10 pm

I would rather run a long time without getting sore. I love long runs because I love being able to tune out the ‘real world’ and think–I pose so many stupid ‘would you rathers’ in my head.

If I had 1,000 I would probably do what you did, and spread it to a bunch of people–the people who deserve tips but don’t always get them. Or it could be fun to go to a book store and leave dollars in books. There’s always something nice about a surprise.

  • Jessica April 23, 2012, 12:10 pm

Pets-A miniature schnauzer named Vatu, a parakeet named Sunny, a guinea pig named ricky and our current dog, Nori (basenji/dachsund mix)

  • Drake April 23, 2012, 12:11 pm

If I had 1000 dollars to give away, I would give it to a struggling grad student. Being one myself, I know how difficult it is to support myself while going to school full time and preparing for my insanely expensive student loans to kick in. It’s a tough feat, let me tell you.

  • Kate April 23, 2012, 12:11 pm

    1. Long distances and never be sore, cause I’m already exceptionally fast at short distances *brush your shoulders off*

    2. I would stop by the animal hospital that took such good care of our little girl and pick up as many vet bills as I could.

    3. Speaking of pets. Oberon the cat, Max the cat, Buner Joe the dog, Teddy the Hamster, Pickle the Hamster, Pete the cat, Gus the dog, and most special of all – Tasha, she’s cooler than your cat.

  • Allie April 23, 2012, 12:11 pm

I would definitely love to be able to run long distances with no pain – that would be so nice!!

  • Gina G April 23, 2012, 12:14 pm

I would give $1000 to my parents for all they have blessed me with in life, even though I know it would not even come close to all they have provided me with. (crazy fun fact I learned in sociology this semester of college…. one child on average costs their parents $250,000, not including college. Pretty unreal!)

  • lina April 23, 2012, 12:15 pm

Def long distance w/ no pain!

  • Allie April 23, 2012, 12:16 pm

    Okay, here goes…

Question 1: I would definitely rather be able to run slowly for long distances, than run fast for a short distance. Running is so calming and I am a pretty slow runner, but I don’t mind, because I am lost in my own thoughts the whole time;)

Question 2: Um,I think I would hold on to the $$ for a while (because I am a reluctant decision maker:) and split it lots of different ways and give it to people I deemed worthy for any number of reasons.

Question 3: My mom and I have asthma and we are allergic to pretty much every animal on the planet. Seriously. My siblings would love a dog, though.

I can’t wait for your book to come out, Caitlin! I have been reading your blog for a while and you are so inspiring. Thank you!!! By the way, I’m so excited for BabyHTP to come!

  • Caitlin @ This Bride's Joyride April 23, 2012, 12:17 pm

I love that you calculate the $ per mile!

As for pets I have only had cats: my first cat was Laticia and now my current cat is Meatball. He’s acts more like a dog than a cat though!

  • Steph Garcia April 23, 2012, 12:18 pm

If you had an extra $1,000 but you had to give it away to someone else, who would you give it to and why?

  • Steph Garcia April 23, 2012, 12:18 pm

If you had an extra $1,000 but you had to give it away to someone else, who would you give it to and why?

  • Amanda April 23, 2012, 12:20 pm

    Hi Caitlin,

I’m excited to see your book! Here are my answers.

Would you rather have the ability to run impressively fast for short distances or moderately paced for very long distances and never get sore?

I would rather run fast, short distances and never get sore. I enjoy sprints rather than long distance running.

If you had an extra $1,000 but you had to give it away to someone else, who would you give it to and why?

I would give my extra 1,000 to my local animal shelter. They work so hard on behalf of homeless pets. They also helped pair my husband and me with our beloved terrier mix.

What pets have you owned over your lifetime?

My parents would never let me have a dog growing up, but we had cats named Buckwheat and Socks until my parents found out that I was very allergic. Then we had a guinea pig named Squeakers and several gerbils. Now I own my border terrier, “Kyoto.”

  • Steph Garcia April 23, 2012, 12:20 pm

Ok, obviously I’m having posting issues!
I would use the $1000 on my students buying them supplies to restock or start the new school year!

  • Amanda April 23, 2012, 12:21 pm

If had to choose between running short distances ridiculously fast or running long-distance, I would definitely go with long-distance! I love distance running. I like running 5ks too, but I just can’t do them fast yet!

  • Daisy April 23, 2012, 12:25 pm

I think I’d rather run for long distances and never get sore. Then I would get to take my dog on a lovely, long distance run so that I fit in a intense workout whilst get the dog out the house too!

  • Rebecca April 23, 2012, 12:26 pm

For the first question I think I’d have to save I’d rather be able to run short distances really fast because then I’d be able to win some age division prizes, right?? 🙂

  • Kristin April 23, 2012, 12:29 pm

I would love to run long distances and do something crazy but awesome like explore the world by running. I’d give the $1,000 to my mom who spoils everyone but herself. And in my lifetime, I’ve had two turtles and three dogs.

  • Megan April 23, 2012, 12:30 pm

I’d want to run moderately forever!

  • Melissa Q April 23, 2012, 12:30 pm

Gotta love the animals – and yours have sure had some awesome names! Mine pale in comparison….

Aloysius (dog), Erasmus (dog), Evil (black cat), Joey (cat), Max (dog), Zachary (dog), Goober (dog), Mazie (cat), Toby (cat), Walter (dog), Ziggy (my current doggy-love, who is much like your Maggie!)

    Have a great week!

  • Nicole April 23, 2012, 12:32 pm

If I had an extra $1000, I’d use it to try and perform as many random acts of kindness as possible! I’d go to a grocery store and pay for food for people who look like they need it, I’d buy toys/books to donate, I’d pay for people in line at a coffee shop, etc. This is actually one of my dreams for something fun to do on my birthday one year!

  • Hannah April 23, 2012, 12:33 pm

Like Caitlin, I would give the $ 1000, to people in the customer service/food industry. I worked at Tim Hortons for about 2 years and I know how much a toll it can take.

My pets, I have had my cat Tigger since I was a year old, making her 17 yikes! And the love of my life Bella, my dog who is 6 years old.

  • Colleen April 23, 2012, 12:35 pm

    1. I would definitely say long distance.

    2. I would also break the $1,000 down and give as tips and to the local humane society.

    3. We are just talking about our beloved pets last night. We’ve had (our family): Lady Guinevere the VII, “Lady” (yellow lab and our first ‘child’ we losted to kidney failure 4 yrs ago); Lizzy (our first cat and second ‘child’ we losted to multiple illnesses 3.5 years ago); Joey (our pitbull mix and third ‘child’ we saved 9 years ago); Maggie (a beagle hound mix we saved 5 yrs ago, but losted 3 yrs ago to poor hips and knees)), Roxy (our second cat and fourth ‘child’ we saved 4.5 years ago), and Molly (our fifth ‘child’ we saved 3.5 years ago).

  • Ali April 23, 2012, 12:35 pm

If I had an extra $1000 I would give it to some of the single moms that come through my workplace. I work in childcare and there are some moms that are on there own, going to school, working, and just trying to make ends meet. I’d help them out if I could!

  • Laura April 23, 2012, 12:39 pm

    Hi Caitlin,
As a fellow animal lover I will answer the last question:
My family always had animals growing up. I had a succession of very naughty ponies, a cat called Mouse, two goldfish that were later eaten by Mouse, a dog called Fred and then a dog called Hugh, and 27 guinea pigs. Yes, 27. We originally had one ginger female guinea pig called Ginger. Ginger seemed lonely so we bought her Snowdrop. Ginger then turned out to actually be male and Snowdrop had several babies, who we failed to gender properly, who then had several more babies. Trust me, guinea pigs can mate!!! I now just have one cat called Coco. And no guinea pigs.

  • Liz April 23, 2012, 12:39 pm

A1: Moderately paced for very long distances. There’s just something super satisfying about running for a long time, even if it’s not fast.

A2: I would donate it to my CSA farmers – they work so hard and do some great education programs.

A3: Growing up we had 4 cats, Curiosity, Spookers, Princess, and Friskie, plus a dog, Patches. I also had a turtle and goldfish, whose names I can’t remember. Then we got another dog, Cinnamon. I had a rabbit for a short amount of time before he chewed threw every wire in the house and we donated him to a local mental health care facility where the residents loved taking care of him. And now I have two wonderful cats, Hippo and Runty!

  • Kim April 23, 2012, 12:40 pm

I would choose to run at a moderate pace, but for a really long time.

  • Tammy Root April 23, 2012, 12:44 pm

I have a cat named Baby Kitty! (who incidentally loves to catch, kill, and eat birds. He’s a Bad Kitty).

  • Jasmine April 23, 2012, 12:45 pm

I’ve owned plenty of gold fish, 4 parakeets, and 2 dogs. the goldfish were the easiest and quietest…

  • stacy April 23, 2012, 12:45 pm

If I had an extra 1,000 dollars, I’d give it to my boyfriend and tell him to take us on vacation! If that is cheating, then I would pick a charity. I should probably pick the charity anyway, right? Damn. Okay, I’d find a charity that helps feed hungry kids in the U.S. ( I read this applies to 1 in 4 kids in the U.S.-disturbing and sad).

  • Katie Starr April 23, 2012, 12:49 pm

I would give the $1,000 to an ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease) charity because that was the disease my great-grandfather died from. Watching him slowly fade away was the most devastating, heartbreaking thing.

  • Catherine April 23, 2012, 12:51 pm

Would you rather have the ability to run impressively fast for short distances or moderately paced for very long distances and never get sore?

I would much rather have the ability to run moderately paced for very long distances and never get sore. Pain-free > pain, no matter what distance it is you are running. Also, endurance and stamina makes me feel like I’m on top of the world!

  • Howdy from NYC April 23, 2012, 12:52 pm

I’ve had hundreds of birds growing up including a Blue and Gold Macaw, Parakeets, Cockatiels, and a Double Yellow Head Amazon.

    And pigs. 🙂

  • Cellabella April 23, 2012, 12:53 pm

I would choose long distances too! And I’ve owned fish but never a mammal until we got our dog three years ago – I adore her and can’t imagine how I survived without my naughty little booger-butt precious sweetpea. Can you tell that she’s spoiled? 😉

Oh, and I’d probably divide the money and donate it to Second Harvest, the shelter where we got our dog, and the HHDL foundation!

  • Cait Martin April 23, 2012, 12:56 pm

    1. I would definitely rather be able to run long distances with no soreness! I was a gymnast for 14 years and had to retire because I blew out my ankle. Ever since then, my runs, especially the long ones, have been limited to run/walks. It’s still exhilarating to finish long races, but I wish I could push my feet as far as my heart is willing to go!

    3. Growing up, I’ve only had three dogs. One, Spencer, was my buddy when I was a baby. We also had a Jack Russell terrier named Dixie, who lived for 17 years! We recently inherited my grandmother’s Jack Russell named Zoe when she passed away in November, and she is an amazing reminder of how crazy and loving my grandma was 🙂

  • Katie April 23, 2012, 12:56 pm

I’ve owned 2 goldfish, though I can’t remember their names ..(goldfish memory hahaa), a budgie named Peter, 3 guinea pigs whose names were Nini, Nanni and Ninni (don’t ask me why), 2 more budgies called Suzy and Marky (for Marky Mark..the 90’s) and my beloved cats Balu and Mickey. Balu was run over by a car :(( and Mickey “moved” to the neighbours as they were secrectly feeding her only the finest cat food (aka Whiskas).

  • KarrieWE April 23, 2012, 12:58 pm

I would like to be able to run long distances at a moderate pace and never get sore.

  • Erin @ Big Girl Feats April 23, 2012, 1:02 pm

We had one dog growing up, Maxine Magnolia (our German Shepard doggy) and when we all started leaving for college, my parents started adopting Corgi’s by the masses from this woman who bred them that my mom worked with. No kidding, it was like a corgi retiring home because they would take older dogs (between 10-15) and let them spend their golden years hanging out – so we had LeeLee, Junior, Joey and Taz. We also had cats, BC (for Big Cat), Midnight, Freckles and Radar (he had giant ears). Currently my fiance and I have a mastiff/lab mix, Sadie Lady Bird Johnson.

  • Alex @ therunwithin April 23, 2012, 1:05 pm

I would so much rather run long distance and never get sore. it is more of a mental get away that I would get from it.

  • Nadia April 23, 2012, 1:05 pm

    1. Long distances, moderate pace and not get sore.
    2. I’d use the money right now to fly out to see my sister graduate (PhD).
    3. Growing up we had 2 dogs (German Shepherd, Boxer mix), 2 talking African gray parrots, a bunch of pigeons that kept on multiplying 🙁 and 2 guinea fowl!

  • Liz April 23, 2012, 1:06 pm

My parents have a rat terrier and a yorkie. I’m just waiting until the day I have a big enough house and yard for a great dane (or two 😉 ).

  • Lisa @ Fit in the Midwest April 23, 2012, 1:07 pm

I’d rather run impressively fast short distances. I was a hurdler and sprinter in high school and I get more of a thrill from running short distances than I do long.

  • Amber April 23, 2012, 1:07 pm

If I had an extra $1,000 I would give it to a good friend of mine who just got divorced and has two little girls. She is struggling right now and I really wish I had the money to give her.

  • Bonnie April 23, 2012, 1:09 pm

I’ve had a bunch of pets over the years. My first cat was named Buster and she lived for 22 years- we got her when I was a baby! She used to sneak into my room to cuddle. 🙂 Then when she died, we got a psycho cat named Binx, and a rescue GSD named Charlie Brown. We also adopted my stepmother’s dogs Aussie and Oliver and her kitty Isabella. Oh and my brother had a fish (I don’t remember the name) and I had a lizard I named Izze, but she didn’t survive (I’m no good with reptiles apparently!).

  • Janelle April 23, 2012, 1:12 pm

    1) Long distances!
    2) I’d give the money to my sister who is graduating from college, or to my grandma (or both). 🙂
    3) I’ve had 4 rabbits – Brownie, Honey, Fluffy, and Fuzzy (Hah! I was little), and 4 dogs – Tony, Sam, Nikita, and Tucker.

  • Ashley @ The North Carolina Cowgirl April 23, 2012, 1:12 pm

The pets I’ve owned, lets see: 1 bird, 2 or 4 hamsters, 1 snake, 1 duck, 6 horses, and countless dogs & cats. 😀 I had awesome parents that let me own practically anything I wanted.

    • Ashley @ The North Carolina Cowgirl April 23, 2012, 1:15 pm

Oh yea..I forgot I also had 2 rabbits, some goldfish and fighting fish, mice, and lizards. That should cover it now. LOL

  • Lindsey April 23, 2012, 1:16 pm

Long distance at a moderate pace for sure!

  • lauren April 23, 2012, 1:19 pm

If I had an extra $1000, I think I’d split it up and surprise tip at coffee shops. I worked at one in college and we all lived off our tips 🙂
Pets…Cat named Minu (cat in French) that my mom “found” in college that lived to be 16+. Dog, Licorice, in Elementary / Middle School. Rodents in High School…Hamster, Bella Ann. Guinea Pig, Anderson (Andy for short). Fish in college, Billy, Little Fishy, Big Fishy, No name fishy. Cat with my hubs, Tigger (Tiggy for short), he’s 4. We got him when he was only 3 weeks old & abandoned. He’s our baby for now 🙂

  • Jessica April 23, 2012, 1:24 pm

    1. Neither I want to be able to do yoga for a loong time 🙂
    2. I would give it to my stepdaughter to start her college fund.
    3. I have had one pet…got her in November…shes a shitzu 🙂

  • Jen April 23, 2012, 1:25 pm

I’ve had so many pets. Growing up, I had a cat named Mitzi, along with goldfish (Farfignugen, Spot, and Martin), parakeets (Floyd and Schiskabob, who had children – 5 of them and I can’t remember their names), Cockatiels (Ren and Stimpy), and finches (Romeo and Juliet, who also had children – Moe, Larry, and Curly). We also had a lovebird named Petey. When I got my own place my first cat was Mango (I adopted him out to an older couple that lived in the woods because he insisted on being an outdoor cat and I was in the city). Now I have the same pets that I’ve had since letting go of Mango – 2 cats (Frankenstein and Caillou), a leopard gecko named Sandy, and 4 huge red eared slider turtles name Myrtle, Spaz, Billy Idol, and Hollywood. I love animals, can you tell? 😉

  • Johanna B April 23, 2012, 1:29 pm

I’d rather be able to run for long distances and not be sore. I’m not that impressed by speed. I love endurance events.

I’ve had too many pets to mention but I currently have an old cat named Smokey who sleeps with me every night. He’s a big ball of lovable black fur.

  • Jamie April 23, 2012, 1:29 pm

I think I would rather be able to run impressively fast for short distances. It would be cool to experience actually winning a race, even if it was a 5K.

  • Shrinking mommy of 2 April 23, 2012, 1:31 pm

If I had $1000 I would too distribute it to several places. I would give some to my sister as she is need of paying a few “unforseen” bills. I would give some to an adoption agency that we have worked closely with and the rest would be given to our church designated for the students minsitry for the children in Haiti. (“Quarters for Haiti” is what my children are helping feed the children of Haiti)

  • MB April 23, 2012, 1:37 pm

I’m with you on the running question!

  • Robyne April 23, 2012, 1:37 pm

    1. I love running longer distances. Short distances just go by too fast and you dont get to enjoy the experience.
    2. If I had a 100O dollars to give away I would watch for one of those moments when a need comes up and you meet it, but I would definitely do it anomalously, because I would not want anyone to feel obligated.

    3. Pets that I have had: dog named Coco (he was my favorite and first) rabbit named Baby, cat named Sniffles, and a dog named Lucky (we still have Lucky and he is the best black lab ever)

  • Pam April 23, 2012, 1:38 pm

Would you rather have the ability to run impressively fast for short distances or moderately paced for very long distances and never get sore?

Speedster. I’d love that, esp. since I could apply it to sports to be super awesome (for the short distance part 🙂 )

If you had an extra $1,000 but you had to give it away to someone else, who would you give it to and why?

I’d give it to a friend’s sister to help pay for college. She’s the youngest, and their family hit hard times … during her junior year of HS. Kind of worries me that she may not be college-bound.

What pets have you owned over your lifetime?
Bubba the gerbil, Luther the cat fish, other gerbils, J.B. the hamster (Jabba the Butt), Yoda the cat, and now Luna the cat.

  • Jayhawk Jen April 23, 2012, 1:42 pm

run long distances, please 🙂 I’d give my $1000 to my youngest daughter who is still in college, enough said… and too many pets to mention! 🙂 current dog is Mr. Utley, a pug 🙂

  • Sunny April 23, 2012, 1:43 pm

I’d take slow and steady runs. My bro and I run together 4x/week and train for distance events. He’s never going to be fast and if I became a fast runner, I wouldn’t get to spend time with him.

  • Kiera April 23, 2012, 1:44 pm

If I had $1,000 dollars I would give it to my Dad. I am about 1000% sure I owe him something closer to 1.6 million dollars at this point in my life, but that would be a good start!

  • Adriana April 23, 2012, 1:46 pm

I’d rather be able to run moderately paced for very long distances..mostly because of your last reason about running buddies. Running with someone just makes it so much more fun and makes the time pass so much faster!

If I had $1000 I’d give it to my best friend. She’s been through an extremely stressful time lately and could definitely use the money for a much needed vacation away from it all 🙂

  • Pam April 23, 2012, 1:46 pm

If I was given 1000$ I would honestly say I would divide into 3 parts and put one part toward my student loan debt, another into savings, and the last part I would use to pay for my expenses so I could run the Big Sur marathon. 🙂

  • Liz April 23, 2012, 1:47 pm

My pets names (that I can remember) in order were: Garbage (my dad found this cat in a dumpster…hence the name), Ashley, Kitty Cat and Max (more my grandparent’s…but I did live with them for a while too), Blackie, Buddy, Mama Kitty, Floyd, Jingles and Crosby. Of all of those, everyone except for Jingles was a cat. There were also a few fish thrown in there, but I can only remember Fred and Ethel.

  • Laura April 23, 2012, 1:52 pm

Without a doubt, I would rather be able to run long distances and never get sore. There are so many awesome things to see out and about on my runs that I wouldn’t want to miss them by speeding by.

  • Anu April 23, 2012, 1:52 pm

I’d prefer to run short distances fast because I know how effective HIIT workouts are for me

  • Peach April 23, 2012, 2:03 pm

If I had an extra thousand dollars I would actually love to give it to my mom and dad. While they aren’t struggling that hard anymore, I would love for them to have some extra cash to do something fun for themselves. They are constantly giving and I would love to do something nice for them.

  • Amber K April 23, 2012, 2:08 pm

I like your answer to the $1,000 question, especially because that’s the first thing I thought of. I tip incredibly too high by some people’s standards (especially because I live in a state where waiters make minimum wage plus tips) but I still couldn’t handle that kind of job and admire anyone who can!

  • Ranya April 23, 2012, 2:14 pm

    1. I would most definitely rather run longer. I have no reason to want to run fast lol.
    2. I would give the $1000 to my sister who is about to start college in the fall and could probably use the extra money.
    3. My pets that I can remember: dogs: Penny, Max, Bono, Dash. Also, a cat named Simba, a rabbit named Hunny Bunny, and some hermit crabs that didn’t last very long…

  • Angie C. April 23, 2012, 2:14 pm

$1,000 to give away, probably to half to our local animal shelter and half to Wounded Warriors. Pets through my life: More fish than I recall, a couple hamsters named Spinner (grade school creativity), dogs Molly and Kaela, and a cat named Sydney.

  • Danielle April 23, 2012, 2:16 pm

If I had $1,000 to give away to someone I would probably give it to my mom. She has always worked so hard raising me and my four brothers that I would encourage her to go out and spoil herself for once!

  • L April 23, 2012, 2:16 pm

We had several family pets over the years, but the only one that was really mine was Julie the cat. Plus a lot of goldfish, whose names I don’t remember. They didn’t tend to make it long.

  • Elle April 23, 2012, 2:18 pm

I love that idea for the money! As a (very newly) ex-barista, I can vouch for how much a good tip means. I’d probably give a portion to charity and then the rest as tips as well 🙂

  • Anne Weber-Falk April 23, 2012, 2:19 pm

We’ve had so many cats and dogs over the years it’s hard to count. My mom and dad both worked for the police dept. and had a soft spot for animals that people would bring in. If nobody claimed the animals after a week many of them would come home with them. One cat was found in a giant box in the middle of a highway. A trucker brought it in but was afraid to open it. So were the officers as the last box contained a snake. Mom was the brave one as she slowly opened the box out popped a kitten. We called her Muffin.

  • Amy April 23, 2012, 2:21 pm

Long distances, definitely! I’m so not competitive, so going fast is not a priority, but I would love to run a marathon and not feel it the next day!

  • Laurence Coursol April 23, 2012, 2:31 pm

I’ve had three birds named Citron, Cocoti and Lime when I was 10. I currently have a cat named Luna.

  • liz April 23, 2012, 2:31 pm

    Definitely long distances.
My parents, in-laws and siblings cuz I owe them the world for their live and support.
Dogs, cats, fish and a hampster!

  • Brianna April 23, 2012, 2:40 pm

I would choose to run long at a moderate pace. I don’t hit my runners high until about 10 miles in. I’d hate to miss that!

Pets: Only 2 dogs. A beagle named Bailey that we got when I was 5. She passed when I was 21. And a husky mix named Tanner. He’s a 7 year old bundle of love!

  • Savitri April 23, 2012, 2:40 pm

I had a little pug for most of my childhood (from age 1 to 15). Her name was Bella and I always thought of her as a sister – she ran around and ate and slept just like I did! haha I really just enjoyed her warm, furry company and I liked to think she could understand what I was thinking if I just stared at her and “intended” long enough. She was a really great companion, a little girl’s best friend 🙂

    • Savitri April 23, 2012, 2:45 pm

and I would put that $1000 towards reestablishing a clean and available water supply towards a community whose water has been monopolized. I live off water but I never waste a drop – it’s not something that should ever be taken for granted.

  • Kelly April 23, 2012, 2:43 pm

    Love the book giveaways!

    1) $1000 for my parents for sure. 2) I’d take the longer runs. 3) I had about 4 dogs (2 at a time) growing up, hamsters (man those things have babies QUICK), rabbit, gerbil, rooster (yes, really!), birds. I’m sure there were others…

  • Laura @ She Eats Well April 23, 2012, 2:43 pm

I’d definitely want to be able to run longer and not be sore. I could care less about how fast I go. Ever since I got injured a few years ago, I’ve been much more aware of my body and if going slower or taking a day off is what my body needs, I do it!

  • Ashley @ My Food 'N' Fitness Diaries April 23, 2012, 2:45 pm

i’d rather run long distances at a moderate pace and never get sore. i just think running longer distances are more enjoyable!

  • Laura April 23, 2012, 2:45 pm

I’d love to be able to run long distances and never get sore! I’m training for my first half marathon and the physical challenge is more than I expected. I’m loving each run and increasing my mileage, but often feel the pain as a result.

  • Christie April 23, 2012, 2:48 pm

If I could run far and NEVER get sore, ever again, Lord knows I would!

I like your idea to put $1000 towards tips for good service- love it! I’d probably give it to a hard working college student, or a struggling family.

I’ve only ever really had one pet- a cat named Mindy that I had to get rid of when I went to college because my family couldn’t give her the attention she needed. Sad, but she went to a family friend that already knew and loved her.

  • AlisonJ April 23, 2012, 2:50 pm

I would give the money to my neice & nephew who don’t have a lot. I would want them to take dance lessons & have the sports equipment they want.

  • TiffanyS April 23, 2012, 2:57 pm

I’d prefer to run moderately and never get sore. I’m fairly slow now, but my body doesn’t always appreciate me running longer distances. So, that would be a plus to run longer.

I’d give the money to my town to build a bike/running trail.

Way to many pets to list since I grew up on a farm with a mom who raised dogs/horses. Ufda!

  • Abby April 23, 2012, 2:58 pm

I would also want to run at a moderate pace over long distances. I always seem to get more satisfaction out of long distances.

1,000= $500 to the MS society, $400 to an elementary teacher who works her butt off for classroom supplies, $100 to Russ Feingold’s organization.

Pets. I grew up on a farm so surrounded my lots of animals! Dog Bowser was the best, a show calf named Billy Jean, show pigs named bacon, pork chop, hamala, and many more! My first dog as an adult was Sully, chocolate lab who got ran over by accident by my brother at 4 mo. old. Now I have Rudy 6 years old, the best chocolate lab ever!!

  • Beth April 23, 2012, 2:59 pm

I would rather be able to run long distances without getting sore. I think those people who can run ultramarathons are so cool, they make it look so easy!

  • Lora @ Crazy Running Girl April 23, 2012, 3:10 pm

    1) Long distance for sure!
    2) I would find someone that is working extremely hard and just can’t seem to get ahead… to hopefully give them that cushion that they need…
    3) I’ve had numerous fish, but other than that I had Chester the hamster, Buddy the hamster, Sugar the cat, Abby the dog, Sabrina the cat and now Apollo the cat and Jax the cat.

  • Sarah April 23, 2012, 3:44 pm

    1. I have shin issues which make it difficult to build significant mileage, so I’d definitely have to go with the long distance option!
    3. Marshmallow (bunny), Buffy (bunny), Winnie (mini-poodle), Nicho (toy poodle) and tons of miscellaneous fish!

  • Vanessa April 23, 2012, 4:45 pm

I’d give the 1000 dollars to my parents. They’re reaching retirement and deserve a nice relaxing vacation together.

  • Erin April 23, 2012, 4:46 pm

If I had $1000 to give away, I’d probably split it between a couple of friends who have family members going through some pretty major illnesses. Insurance helps but it certainly doesn’t cover it all!

Q1 — longer distances, not even a question. I enjoy that feeling of finishing a long run when your body is tired but ‘happy.’

  • K @ Finding a skinnier me April 23, 2012, 4:52 pm

    1) I would love to be able to run long distants without getting sore. Since I am just starting out as a runner, I am very excited for the day when I will be able to run for longer than a minute at a time!
    2) SSPCA, I have a really soft heart for animals and rescue programs for them.
    3) Lots of dogs, a few cats, a bunny, a few rats, a few hamsters, fish and guinea pigs. Currently though it is just the big dog, puppy and cat!

  • laura April 23, 2012, 5:01 pm

I would prefer to run for short distances really, really fast. Pretty much because I hate running, so it would be over really quickly 😉

  • Sonia the Mexigarian April 23, 2012, 5:03 pm

Would you rather have the ability to run impressively fast for short distances or moderately paced for very long distances and never get sore? Long distance for sure. I would love to be able to run a marathon, but my body gets waaaay to sore easily. 10ks are all I have been doing as of late. Got the Big Sur 9miler (walking it) this Sunday 🙂 If you get the chance, check out the Big Sur Marathon. Beautiful course!

If you had an extra $1,000 but you had to give it away to someone else, who would you give it to and why? My parents. They have helped us soooooo much with many things and that $1k would be great to start repaying them with.

What pets have you owned over your lifetime? Let’s see… 3 Guinea Pigs, 3 rabbits, 3 hamsters, 4 birds. 4 Dogs: Kormey 1, Kormey 2, Cappachino, Eclipse (last dog of the family, passed away 2009). 9 Cats: (those that have passed) Winki, Shadow, One-Eye, Shady, Patches. (Alive and well at parents:) Milo, Target, Meeklo and Tigerlily. Currently, Hubby and I have 3 cats: Gambit, Chloe, Lobot and 1 Dog: Lando our 1 yr old Aussie. I love all animals. Hubby is more of a dog person but tolerates (secretly loves 2 of them) the cats 🙂

  • Rebecca April 23, 2012, 5:06 pm

I’ve had two cats named Princess and Zippy! They are patched calicos and have quite the personalities.

  • Kendra April 23, 2012, 5:07 pm

    I’ve owned the following:
    1. cat named Sarah
    2. cat named Miss Kitty
    3. frog named Mr Ribbit
    4. dog named Kooder
    5. cat named Hannah
    6. dog named Ginger
Those were all growing up and I currently own:
    1. cat named Buster
    2. cat named Stanley
    3. dog named Dalyla
    4. cat named Oscar
    5. and a partridge in a pair tree!

  • Jessica Gordon April 23, 2012, 5:11 pm

    1. I would rather take the mileage, I definitely prefer long running to quickness. 2. I think I would give the money to one of my sisters. Both have kids and I would probably make them put it in a savings account for them. 3. I have had fish, bunnies, dogs, a cat, and even a duck!

  • Freya April 23, 2012, 5:23 pm

Haha,I love your animal names!! I have a cat called Rabbit, and I think slightly quirky names are the best 🙂

  • Lauren April 23, 2012, 5:27 pm

The pets I’ve owned were a ton of goldfish in 1st grade and my two sweet dogs now!

  • Stefanie K. April 23, 2012, 5:34 pm

Growing up I had a dog called Lassie. I also had two horses Centella and Samba (still have my old girl). Currently I have two cats, Gato and Chase.

Over the last couple of years I have had some cats that I fostered for my local shelter. I had the Lord of the rings litter (rose, sam, eowyn arwen and mom was Galadriel), Harry Potter litter (ginny, arnold, fred and george and mom was Mrs Weasley), greek good kittens (Apollo, Artemis, Athena and Aletheia), 3 musketeers (artos, artemis and portos) and my last two were remy and Chase (which I kept).

  • dana April 23, 2012, 5:57 pm

If I were given $1,000 to give away, I’d give it to Charm City Animal Rescue. It’s a small, Baltimore based animal rescue that’s run by only one person. She’s always so thankful for donations! My husband and I donated to her as our ‘wedding favor’.

  • Kate April 23, 2012, 5:57 pm

If I had a $1000 dollars I would give it to my mom because she’s the best and she is constantly putting others ahead of herself and she deserves to be treated!

  • Gwen April 23, 2012, 6:05 pm

If I had $1000 and I had to give it to someone else I would split it between the local humane society (where I adopted my cats), the therapeutic horseback riding organization I volunteer with, and a bunch of microloans on Kiva, because I always wish I had more money to put into those three things.

  • Abby April 23, 2012, 6:08 pm

I would rather be able to run long because I would love to run an ultramarathon someday.

  • Amanda April 23, 2012, 6:10 pm

If I had an extra 1000 dollars, I would give it to my friend, jen’s, boyfriend. He has been wanting to buy her an engagementring for quite some time, but can’t save up enough money. He is redoing a house and things keep popping up to be fixed!

  • Calla April 23, 2012, 6:19 pm

If you had an extra $1,000 but you had to give it away to someone else, who would you give it to and why?

I think I’d divvy it up among a few animal shelters. There are so many that need support, and the animals can’t explain their situations to you themselves (in English, anyway).

  • Kristin April 23, 2012, 6:24 pm

What pets have you owned over your lifetime? Well let’s see- horses, dogs, cows, pigs, goats, rabbits, chickens, hermit crabs, fish and turtles :)i LOVE animals!!!

  • nicole April 23, 2012, 6:38 pm

I would rather be able to run a far distance..my goal after this baby is to run a 5K and eventually run a half marathon!

If I had $1000 I would put it into a savings account for my children’s post secondary education. I was fortunate enough that my parents helped me, and I would love to help my children too!

I have had three dogs, a few cows and cats…Grew up on a farm!

  • Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin April 23, 2012, 6:50 pm

If I had an extra $1000 I would give it to my Nutrition professor who runs programs in the community to promote physical activity in children!

  • Michele April 23, 2012, 6:57 pm

What pets have you owned over your lifetime? Hot dog named Ginger, beagle names Molly (both from when I was a baby), cat named Frisky, another cat named Frisky (we were 5…we weren’t very imaginative with names), fish named Randolph Hubert Fish III, cat named Simon, cat named Twizzler, cat named Abby, and now we have inherited my brother’s cat Sox (after the Red Sox). Can you tell I’m a cat person? LOL

  • Kelly April 23, 2012, 7:01 pm

    1. I’d definitely rather be able to run long distances! Imagine running a marathon without even getting sore? Amazing.

    2. I would either give it to one of my struggling students to start a “college fund” (they are in kindergarten though)- just to show them and their parents that I have faith they will make it there 🙂 Either way or I would give to Ewing Sarcoma research because my cousin passed away from this rare cancer and it needs more research to prevent that from happening to someone else.

    3. I have only REALLY had one pet and that was a hermit crab named Crabby- actually there was Crabby 1 and Crabby 2 🙂 I pretend my mother in laws dog is mine though.

  • SammyCakes April 23, 2012, 7:06 pm

    1. I’d settle for being able to run at all lol. I’ve had surgery on both knees and just feel like I’m risking my life when I try to run. But I would love to be able to run long distances and never get sore. I mean if exercise didn’t make you sore wouldn’t be all be thin? lol

    2. I would give it to my parents because they do soooo much for me.

    3. A few dogs, a few cats, some sort lived fish… I think I would love to have a goat though! They just seem awesome to me!

  • Dynamics April 23, 2012, 7:20 pm

A boxer, a Heinz 57 dog shared with my brother, a welsh pony, an appaloosa horse, a half quarter, half Arabian (the head was the Arabian half), dogs, dogs and more dogs, fish galore and a few turtles. Visiting animals are raccoon, Great Egret, opossum and birds I have never seen before. An occasional cricket and spider (who do not stay very long). I cannot forget my lizard who appears each and every year. One outside cat and one half cat, she disappears for days and then comes back. (I pay to get her spayed and the person on the other end only has to remove the stitches. Geez) That about sums it up.

Kudos to you for being so honest and helpful to so many people. Sometimes planning is not necessary. Sometimes you just do what feels right at the moment. I think it will all work out in the end. You are hubby are strong people and you will be amazing!!!! Plus you have James and Maggie to help. Doggie hugs are the BEST!!!

  • Lyn @ Life Lyn Style April 23, 2012, 7:22 pm

Definitely moderate pace for long distance. Not to be sore would be an added bonus.

If I had $1000 I’d donate it to a good cause… like local fruits and veggies to kids.

  • Rebecca April 23, 2012, 7:24 pm

In my life, (I’m only 16 years old) I have had an english pointer/britney mix dog named Sam, which my family adopted when I was only a few months old. Our birthdays were only a month different from each other! But sadly, the old fella got a tumor in his stomach and had to be put down in October 2010. The last few years of his life, we had adopted another english pointer/britney + hound mixed dog named Lilly (or Delilah) and she was there when we put him down. Now, she is our only pet, but it won’t be that way for long 🙂

  • Shelley April 23, 2012, 7:25 pm

I would much prefer to be able to run long distances and never get sore! I have only started running and i get sore after just running a couple of miles, so running longer and not getting sore sounds pretty darn good to me!

  • cristina April 23, 2012, 7:25 pm

I have owned a bird name mr. Birdy, a beagle named snoopi, a chihuahua named Oliver and a chihuahua named Lucy 🙂

  • Jen W. April 23, 2012, 7:30 pm

PETS you ask….. quite a few. A couple I’d like to forget – namingly “Hampy” the hamster who was a finger biter and “The Dutchess of Duke” who shredded my beautiful rabbit fur coat in the late 70’s. My favorite was “Flip 2 My Lou” toy poodle. Ahh the memories……

  • Kristen (inspiredbydooce) April 23, 2012, 7:33 pm

I would like to be able to run fOrever at a moderate pace and never get sore. I’d become an ultra runner…

  • Heidi Nicole April 23, 2012, 7:36 pm

We’ve had…LOTS of pets. One of the pleasures of growing up on a farm! There was always the farm animals but every once in a while a calf/duck/other farm critter would become more of a pet than a farm animal. And of course there were always cats, dogs, hamsters, fish, rabbits, lizards, frogs, etc that were legitimately pets.

Right now we have a cat and 4 fish…thats plenty in our little apartment!

  • Karly April 23, 2012, 7:37 pm

I’d rather run long and never get sore. Running long distances is so relaxing!

I’d give an extra $1,000 to my dad. I’ve been working on my degree for the past 4 years and my Dad has been helping me out whenever my student loans couldn’t cover the things I need. I would love to give him some money back! (Although he probably wouldn’t let me!)

I’ve owned lots of pets since I grew up on a farm! I’ve owned cats, dogs, turtles and a rabbit!

  • Kimmy April 23, 2012, 7:51 pm

My first pet was a hamster who I named Madeline Albright- I was eight and she was my baby and I wanted only the best for her, which included the name of the most smartest, most important person I knew of at the time. She lived to the ripe old age of 4 (ancient for a hamster).
And now I have Yasha, my half siberian mountain cat who is a total curmudgeon and thinks he’s a dog, and only eats raw beef and can jump four feet in the air to claw at your face if he feels like it. But he’s also kind of adorable.

  • Sharon April 23, 2012, 7:57 pm

Since my husband and I have been married we’ve owned 2 goldfish named Sid & Nancy (didn’t live very long), a cat named Jack Black who loved to climb and sit up on my shoulder like a parrot, and we currently own 3 indoor kitties – Owen, Scout & Steve.

  • jen April 23, 2012, 7:57 pm

1- I’d rather run long. I’m currenty working on my first 5k (the color run, yay! sounds so fun!), and as a first time runner, its so mentally hard for me! im so proud to be able to run 2 miles before needing to stop.

2- I’d give an extra 1,000 to my sister, who bailed me out of some credit card messiness when i was in college. i didnt ask, she offered, and it meant the world to me (and my credit score)

3- Here are my pets in order: 2 dogs, Mandi and christy 1 cat scooter, 1 horse Flame, 1 pony Sunshine, 2 cats, Bambi and Dusty, 1 dog Tawny, 2 cats, Punkin(who was in my senior hs pics) and Lucky, 2 rabbits Lily and Thumper (who we were told were both girls, and when we discovered 7 bloody dead baby bunnies we realized the farm was WRONG)1 dog Katie, 3 cats Chloe, Simba and Sirius Black (my personal fave of the last 3). i sure love me some pets!!

  • Mary April 23, 2012, 7:59 pm

If I had an extra 1000 dollars it would most definitely go to my lifelong best friend Emily who is supporting herself through college. Not only is she the hardest worker I know, she is incredibly selfless often spending her small salary on the kids she works with (she is a 1 on 1 in an after school program). With 1000 dollars she put a (small) dent in those loans for sure!

  • Julianna @ Julianna Bananna April 23, 2012, 8:10 pm

if i had 1,000 dollars to give to someone else, i’d probably just give out a few really awesome tips to people. i work part-time in a food service job and tips mean spending money for me, so now i try to tip other people as much as i can!

  • Emily @ Relishments April 23, 2012, 8:20 pm

I had a $1000 dollars that I had to give to someone else I’d give it to my sister to help her pay for her upcoming wedding!

  • Sara April 23, 2012, 8:20 pm

If I had $1,000 I’d probably give it to the non-profit my mother runs, which focuses on bringing awareness to and preventing bullying. She (and her amazing student volunteers) would definitely be able to put it to good use to benefit the organization.

  • Heather April 23, 2012, 8:23 pm

I have only had three fish during my lifetime!! No other pets 🙁

  • JenRD April 23, 2012, 8:23 pm

I’d rather run long distance than fast any day! I am in awe of marathon runners!

Since becoming a mom, I have the utmost respect for single mammas out there–and there are two wonderful single moms at work, so if I had to give away $1000, I would split it amongst the two of them.

  • Shannon April 23, 2012, 8:43 pm

If I had an extra $1,000, I would give it to my parents! They are paying for me to go to college and someday I hope to repay them. I will really appreciate finishing my degree debt free!

  • Katie R April 23, 2012, 8:49 pm

I’d definitely love the ability to run loooooong distances. I love to run, but I hate getting tired or sore after an hour-ish of running or fearing injury if I run too much. So it would be incredible to me if I could just go as long as time permitted…or until I ran out of road to run. That would be awesome. 🙂

  • Carolyn April 23, 2012, 9:09 pm

If I had an extra $1000 laying around, I would give it to my parents…for the time they paid my speeding ticket, for the time I crashed their car, and for all the times they helped me out financially!

  • Katie April 23, 2012, 9:20 pm

I’ve had only two pets in my life … a guniea pig named Buddy and my current puppy Reggie (who I am in love with by the way!)

  • Katie April 23, 2012, 9:35 pm

    1) I prefer longer distances, so definitely the second option.

2)I would give the money to Turpentine Creek Wildlife Refuge where I intern. We rescue big cats and our goal is to get a habitat built for every one of our cats and this would help.

    3) I had Topaz, the best kitty ever, Honey the guinea pig and currently my family has Spike and Daisy, two beagles.

  • Shannon April 23, 2012, 9:42 pm

If I had an extra $1000, I’d give it to my mom. She lost her job a few years back and she struggles and I wish she didn’t have to because she’s the most wonderful person in the world.

  • Christie M. April 23, 2012, 9:46 pm

I would choose to run moderately fast for long distances because then I would literally run my errands and maybe even run to and from work in the morning! I’d save money on bus fares!

  • Joy April 23, 2012, 9:51 pm

    Id rather the distances!!!

  • kelsey April 23, 2012, 10:08 pm

Def run long distances! Saying “I ran a marathon” sounds way more impressive than “I ran a 19 minute 5k” (at least to me!)

  • MaryBeth April 23, 2012, 10:08 pm

I completely agree… would love to run long distance slow and never get sore. I also love your math for races! Never thought about it that way!

  • Colette April 23, 2012, 10:20 pm

Definitely long distances because it’s something that I really struggle with now. As for pets, just a hamster named Christy (because we got her on Christmas) and a fish named Ike after a hurricane that struck right after we got him.

  • Mikella April 23, 2012, 10:35 pm

I would definitely rather be able to run long distances slowly. I like the therapeutic aspect of taking my time with a run and enjoying the scenery but I sort of stop being able to do that when I get to the point of wheezing and cramping and cursing life. Pretty much, after a couple of miles running is just a chore to me. I am hoping I will improve and I will enjoy it more, but right now I wish I could just strap on my shoes and go on an epic mind clearing Forrest Gump run with no pain or serious fatigue.

  • Carin April 23, 2012, 10:43 pm

Haha – the plaque makes an appearance! Happy fakin’!

To me, Monday is definitely the start of the week – I hae to try hard every year to get a calendar which agrees, because they all seem to start on Sunday. Grrrrr.

Anyway, in case anyone’s wondering (!), my answers are:

    1) Very long distances, without getting sore (my bum’s too big for speed…. it’d be wobbling wayyyyy after the sprint was finished! I rather like the soreness, ‘cos like the race bling, it’s a reminder of what I’ve achieved. (Marathon #4 this Sunday – wish me luck!)

    2) An extra $1000 would go to my mum, so that she could come out here and meet her grandchildren.

    3) OK – pets. First cat Fluffy (to provide a suitable pornstar name – always good for a laugh), followed by edibly monikered rabbit/ guinea-pig combo Waffles and Peanuts. Since then, I’ve had a succession of cats called Bonzo Magonzo, Boo Radley, Scaredycat, Hoppity Bunster (had a limp), Max (the ill-fated kitten), Scrumpington Scrumpster (aka Scrumpy) and the only survivor, NZ immigrant and current incumbent Blackcat. (No, I am not a witch.)

What made the fish a Rad Dude?

If I had an extra $1000 I would buy all of the residents at my job (I work at a nursing home) something that they really love and something that they really need.

I’d choose the fast over a short distance, because it requires all sorts of training to get to that one focused quick spurt. In cycling, a race often comes down to having an extra kick at the end of a long race. How I’ve wished for that “fast over a short distance”!

What pets have you owned over your lifetime?

I don’t think I could remember them all if you count all the fish… I’ve owned 2 hamsters, a guinea pig named Mel, a golden Retriever (Baron von Maximillian, Max for short), a St. Bernard (Lady Tina Sunshine, or just Lady – I DID NOT pick this name…), many fish, a couple of albino frogs and 3 cats at different times named Kitty, Katty Shack, and Cat (Ha!). I don’t have any pets now – I’ve always been allergic to most pet dander, but never had a problem with dogs as a kid. However, now the dogs bother me, too, and the other allergies have gotten worse. I’m thinking of starting a fish aquarium again – haven’t had one for probably 10 years.

I would be a speedy runner and I would give $1000 to my local animal shelter.

  • Heather April 24, 2012, 12:10 am

max, the cat who was around from the time i was born til age 5

nala, who immediately replaced max because my parents thought i would be devastated over max’s death…ironically i was more devastated when this cat left…she “went to the farm” because turned out to be a witch of a cat to everyone except me and occasionally my dad

sandy licker, the cocker spaniel/my first dog

kaida, the sweetest kitten ever who disappeared (she was an outdoor cat)

(fat) pete, my current cat that lives at home with my dad… i adopted him in high school for my dad when my parents got divorced

lexi, my current dog (australian cattle) that lives at home with my dad

i am researching getting a dog of my own very soon! very excited

In response to #1, I think I’d like to run long distances and not get sore. I have trouble with endurance running and I’d love to go on a really long run and just spend time thinking without getting exhausted and having to train for it!

  • marie April 24, 2012, 7:01 am

I’d give the entire $1000 to my good friend to start a college fund for the son she’s due to have in June.

  • Karlee April 24, 2012, 7:19 am

if i had $1000 i’d give it to my mom, but she wouldn’t take it from me so i’d have to give it to her sneakily.

What pets have you owned over your lifetime?
    Lets see
    -4 goats
    -2 horses
    -4 dogs
    – too many goldfish/tadpoles/frogs to count
    – and 1 turtle!

  • Marion April 24, 2012, 7:41 am

I would love to be able to run moderate distance without being sore! Though, now that I think about it, being sore the day after is kind of like a constant reminder/trophy of what you accomplished the day before! Plus I think my husband would miss poking my sore hamstrings. Ha!

  • Tamicka April 24, 2012, 8:19 am

Ok what pets have you owned? Multiple cats and dogs, birds, a turtle, a frog, two rabbits, two newts, a snake, two pot bellied pigs, a hamster, tons of fish, rats, mice and the best kne is a baby alligator. And no I don’t not have I ever lives on a farm 🙂

  • jen April 24, 2012, 8:57 am

if i had $1000 to give away maybe i would walk around new york on a sunny day and hand it out to homeless people. that sounds nice.

  • Jenn April 24, 2012, 9:32 am

I would rather be able to run long distances and never be sore! I would give the $$ to my students. Where I teach, there are so many at risk kids that need help.

  • Yin April 24, 2012, 9:44 am

If I had $1000, I would give it to my coworker’s child’s trust fund. Anything to help her!

  • Lindsey Gail April 24, 2012, 10:22 am

Pets! I had a streak of fish, Swimmy 1-7, when I was in early elementary school. There was Schooch, the cat, who was responsible for my parents meeting; she wasn’t keen on me until I hit puberty but lived to a ripe 22 years old. I had two turtles, Spiky and Roady, one of whom died, and the other we released into the wild. And finally, I had my own cat, Lottie, who unfortunately contracted kitty leukemia and died after undergrad. My partner and I are currently waiting to move into a pet-friendly apartment in order to have our first pet, most likely a cat.

  • Ashley April 24, 2012, 10:29 am

I love how you said you’d give your money away! The first thing that came to mind for me was giving it to an animal charity – specifically one that helps rehabilitate “problem” dogs. I’ve always had large “dangerous-breed” dogs so I’m really passionate about thinking that a dogs’ personality is totally shaped by how its raised and I’d love to support an organization dedicated to trying to help and rehabilitate dogs who have been mistreated by owners in the past!

  • Krystal April 24, 2012, 11:06 am

If I had a $1000 to give away, I would give half each to two of my favorite charities – St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and March of Dimes(I was a preemie). I really appreciate the work both of these organizations do on behalf of infants and children.

  • Buck Rogers April 24, 2012, 3:07 pm

I would choose moderately paced long distance because I enjoy long runs and feel like I get a workout.

If I had a $1000, I would give it all to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital

  • Mac April 24, 2012, 8:16 pm

I’d rather be able to run the long distances…slow and steady wins the rave 😉

  • Bobbie April 25, 2012, 4:32 pm

I have had one hamster (don’t even remember it’s name) and then dogs, pierre, ginger, mindy, TJ, Elliot and Troubles. Not all at the same time…ha ha! Then as an adult I’ve had two cats, the girl and the boy (very original, huh?) and now I have a dog…duffy! Lots of pets but not much variety.
