Heat Wave

in All Posts

Good evening.

IMG_8680

Would you like to eat something yummy for dinner?  Something tasty and crunchy?

IMG_8683

How about an appetizer of carrot sticks? Yes. Please!

IMG_8676

CHOMP.

Dinner is served for the human folk.  And oh, obviously, it’s covered in Mmmm Sauce.  Because once the Mmmm Sauce starts, it just doesn’t stop.

IMG_8672

Mmmm Sauce eggy sandwich with melon and carrots.  The only thing I could stand to cook and eat for dinner beyond a bowl of cold cereal.  The AC still is on the fritz.  We’re working on the repairs, but in the meantime, it’s 81 degrees in my house, and I’m sweltering.   How come 81 seems so lovely outside but so terrible inside?!

IMG_8670

Smoothies help cool it down.

This So Delicious almond milk is a new fine – it has rice and pea protein in it to pump up the protein, and it’s yummy.  In the blender:

So Delicious Almond Plus

Frozen raspberries

Frozen banana

Sunflower butter

More cold stuff – a post-dinner bit of sorbet.  In front of the freezer is the best place in the entire house right now.

Pray for a cold front.  Please.  In the meantime, that bowl of cereal sounds mighty good right now…

I will try to send some of our cool Iowa weather your way! No heat wave here.

  • Catalina @ Cake with Love April 17, 2012, 9:39 pm

That picture of Maggie eating a carrot is hilarious!! LOL! Do you prefer the So Delicious almond milk? I like their coconut milk, but for almond milk I prefer Almond Breeze Vanilla.

  • Katie @ Peace Love & Oats April 17, 2012, 9:43 pm

oh neat, almond milk with added protein!? That’s awesome, I’ll have to try that!

  • Vikki April 17, 2012, 9:47 pm

I’m in Columbia. It is beautiful out. Open some windows and turn on your fans. Get that cross-breeze going. You’ll feel great in no time.

I’ve been looking for that milk, but it has not shown up yet! I want it so badly! It is hot and muggy here in Atlanta…UGH!

  • Amanda April 17, 2012, 9:57 pm

Cereal for dinner is the dinner of champions!!! That or an egg sandwich. Apparently I’m fixated on breakfast foods.

  • Elisabeth April 17, 2012, 9:58 pm

Yi’re right about 81 inside vs outside. I have to keep it on 67 with the heat or 70 with the AC. Weird.

    • Elisabeth April 17, 2012, 9:59 pm

      Ummmm…. you’re!

  • M April 17, 2012, 10:19 pm

Ha! I got sorbet last night when it was 88 here and finished the whole container… Trying to blame pregnancy but that was all me! Whoops! You should try Sharon’s sorbet if they have it in your area…so good,

  • Rachel Starr April 17, 2012, 10:27 pm

I’ll trade you my 46 & rain here in Seattle, for your 81 degrees! We don’t have AC out here (it’s never too hot & the nights are always cool) so I’m used to being toasty 🙂

  • Jodi @ Jodi, Fat or Not April 17, 2012, 10:29 pm

I’ve never seen that Almond Plus milk…will have to hunt for it and give it a try. I don’t have air condition at all, so I can sympathize..hopefully it gets fixed soon!

  • Sana April 17, 2012, 10:44 pm

You are a FL girl, you got this!

  • Katie @ Soulshine and Sassafras April 17, 2012, 11:05 pm

Ugh, I feel you. It’s not much cooler in DC, and my apartment building still hasn’t turned the AC on yet.

I was wondering if you had any advice/ideas on swimsuits for those with bigger busts. I found my favorite sports bra after your post on those and now want to get into triathlons but I’m struggling to find a swimsuit that is supportive and isn’t cut so low on the sides I have side-boobage going on!

    • Caitlin April 18, 2012, 10:32 am

Hmmm. I would recommend going to sports authority or a similar store and just trying a bunch on. mine is made by TYR and although it is definitely not supportive in the slightest, there is no side boob issues. Fitness swimsuits are supposed to be TIGHT AS ALL HELL so that is where some of the support comes from.

  • Laura @ She Eats Well April 18, 2012, 1:19 am

I will have to try that brand of Almond Milk. I am convinced that sunflower butter makes the best most delicious smoothies! I grew to love it for that use, and cannot stop adding it to my smoothies…so yummy!

  • Jen April 18, 2012, 4:49 am

Oh, wow…I am completely mesmerized by the hypnotic doggie stares. Please feed me a carrot stick…immediately.

Hahahaha…must be the heat! 🙂 I totally know what you mean about indoor vs. outdoor temps! Hope you get the AC fixed (or a cold front) very soon!

I was wondering when the Mmmmm sauce was going to make it’s reappearance…now I’m just waiting for Panda Puffs. 🙂

    • Caitlin April 18, 2012, 10:29 am

Oh god I don’t think I can ever eat another Panda Puff.

  • Linz @ Itz Linz April 18, 2012, 7:40 am

hilarious doggie pix!! and i’m lovin’ this warm weather we’re having in st. louis! it’s been like 70’s for the past few days!

  • Jamie @ Don't Forget the Cinnamon April 18, 2012, 7:47 am

I’m having some serious melon jealousy over here!
I hope your AC is fixed soon!

  • Carolina John April 18, 2012, 8:10 am

I know. I think it’s going to break soon. This stupid summer heat is driving me crazy.

  • Jen April 18, 2012, 9:09 am

Um, it is presently 33 degrees in Buffalo. Please send 25 degrees of that North Carolina heat this way!

  • Sarah April 18, 2012, 10:20 am

Come on, 81 degrees? There are many people out there that don’t have AC in the heat of summer. Open some doors, turn the fans up or get a single room ac unit until the air is fixed.

  • Rebecca April 18, 2012, 11:19 am

It’s currently in the 50s and rainy here. I would appreciate a little more heat, or at least sunshine.
Inside, however, is yuck. Our thermostat is broken, so it’s always hovering between 70 and 80. It would get to 80 in our living room in the winter and we would open windows. And that’s after having only about three extra people in the room. Ugh.

I’m pretty sure it feels different because inside all the air really has nowhere to go, and outside it can be anywhere… Plus there can be a breeze or something outside that makes it not feel quite so hot.
Unless of curse your question was redundant, in which case, ignore me. Hah. 🙂

  • Brenda April 18, 2012, 12:17 pm

So Delicious Almond Plus is my favorite milk but it is hard to find. It really is sooo delicious!

  • Amber K April 18, 2012, 1:24 pm

I still have to have the heat cranked so I can’t even imagine sweltering in 80+ degree temps. With a broken A/C to boot! I can’t even stand 80 outside, let alone inside. Hope you’re staying cool!

  • Tami Merritt April 18, 2012, 2:27 pm

LOL! This made me laugh out loud because during the summer I keep my thermostat at 81! BTW…I live in Arizona.
