Ghost Night

in All Posts

Another ghost night in the Boyle household.

IMG_6756

You see, Maggie is a very dense doggie.  But I think she can sense ghosts.  And every now and then, she wakes up in the middle of the night, crawls to the top of the bed, sits on my head, and stares into the darkness and at an transparent enemy.

That or she’s just torturing me.

So I was up at 4:00 AM, writing by 5:00 AM, munching on toast and orange juice, and waiting until Maggie stopped pacing the living room floor so I could go back to sleep.  (Yes, this sounds like really good practice for a newborn.)

Hours later – a real rise and shine, and a real breakfast.

Just eggs and buttered toast with fruit.

Stay tuned for another installment of The Naked Face Project!

Oh, and yes – Maggie wears a coat indoors.  She’s always shivering because she’s cold… or maybe she’s shivering because she’s scared of spooks from another dimension.  Whichever.

My dog does something very similar! He tends to face a wall or a window with closed drapes and sit stare into space. My husband thinks the dog thinks he’s been bad and is putting himself in the corner!

What a cute dog! I love that she wears sweaters even indoors! That looks like a very yummy breakfast, great for that early in the morning!

  • CJ @ http://healthy-happy-whole.com February 9, 2012, 11:09 am

My dogs wear coats too! and the one, the teacup yorkie, refuses to go outside in this weather. Thank gosh for puppy pads!!!

  • v February 9, 2012, 11:10 am

It worries me when our dogs start barking their heads off for no apparent reason, it makes me worry they can sense something bad that we can sense or see!

  • Angela @ Eat Spin Run Repeat February 9, 2012, 11:12 am

Lol dogs are crazy! Ours used to pace around in circles for no reason – kind of entertaining to watch for a while but then you begin to wonder if they know something we don’t! Have a great day Caitlin! 🙂

  • Liz @ Tip Top Shape February 9, 2012, 11:16 am

That would creep me out if my (non-existent) dog did that!! I don’t know if I believe in ghosts, but that would still creep me out!

  • Andrea February 9, 2012, 11:23 am

You’re so funny with your dogs, lol.

Also, I’m happy to report that I’ve been sort of joining in on the naked face project…before you unleashed the project I would ALWAYS wear concealer under my eyes to hide dark circles. I would be comfortable with no other makeup on but my concealer, but not comfortable without my concealer. Well I’ve been challenging myself to not wear the concealer (just go completely naked face) and I’ve done it a few days out of each week. Yesterday my mother in law said “you look tired, are you alright?!” but it didn’t even bother me…I just explained that I wasn’t wearing my usual concealer! Have you gotten any comments like that since you started the project?

    • CaitlinHTP February 9, 2012, 11:26 am

yay! So glad you are participating.

I also have naturally dark and deep set eyes (see: 22 week update) and wear concealer every day. It’s strange because I have gotten a BIG variety of comments about my skin tone. I have gotten the “you look sick/tired” thing but other people have told me how nice my skin looks (and trust me, no one ever said that to me when I wore a full face of makeup!). I’m not sure if they are just trying to be nice to me because I’m preggers and am supposed to have that ‘glow’ from extra hormones or blood flow. I have noticed that my skin feels softer and cleaner though after 8 days without makeup. I’m kind of diggin’ it.

    Your breakfast looks so delicious!

  • Jen February 9, 2012, 11:32 am

My husband and I are pretty sure our baby sees ghosts.

  • Jordan@almondjay February 9, 2012, 11:33 am

Your dog is so so so cute! I have always said that my parent’s dog sees ghosts because she is always barking out the window at nothing. Maybe Maggie and her could be friends 🙂

  • Jessica (My Kindness Counts) February 9, 2012, 11:53 am

Love this post, it put such a smile of my face. My dog sits in the back room with me at night, which is surrounded by large windows. She stares out the window and barks like crazy (probably at her reflection, I know), but it ALWAYS freaks me out and convinces me there is an enemy outside the window looking in on me… haha

  • Kim February 9, 2012, 11:57 am

This made me think of your sleeping situation with the dogs. Is it still working for Maggie to be in the bed and James in his “tent”?

    • CaitlinHTP February 9, 2012, 12:02 pm

Yup! James loves his tent 🙂 We let him into around 7 AM and he gets a cuddle before we wake up.

  • Amber @ Busy, Bold, Blessed February 9, 2012, 12:01 pm

That’s definitely creepy! Awwww shivering dogs are so cute, but so sad. Our pitbull shivers like crazy when it’s cold out (which is why she has a coat!) and when it thunderstorms, because she gets so scared!

  • Annette @ EnjoyYourHealthyLife February 9, 2012, 12:11 pm

Yikes–I would die if dogs did that to me. Prob why I prefer no pets, haha.

    Yummy b-fast!

  • Katie @ Peace Love & Oats February 9, 2012, 12:11 pm

I’m generally a rational person, but I wouldn’t be surprised if she can sense ghosts (aka I think there could be ghosts). My brother always claimed that there was a ghost in his room (we grew up in an old house) and he still talks about it with such conviction that I totally believe him.

  • Sneakers2Sandals February 9, 2012, 12:19 pm

I always think that dogs have a 6th sense!! Freaks me out!

  • kathleen @ the daily crumb February 9, 2012, 12:24 pm

haha sometimes i think my dogs know full well what they are doing and intentionally torture me.

maggie is so cute in her jacket!!

  • jill February 9, 2012, 1:01 pm

    I love your breakfasts.

  • Ellie@Fit for the Soul February 9, 2012, 1:05 pm

awww I love maggie lil coat!! It’s too adorable 😀 And I think animals can def. sense things!! In some ways, they can be more sensitive than humans–not to sound creepy or anything 😛

  • Katie February 9, 2012, 1:21 pm

Maggie’s so cute in her coat! I have a friend who says (in humor) that her daughter was very similar to her dog…until she began to talk. That was one thing they couldn’t teach the dog to do! 🙂

  • Jessica @ The Process of Healing February 9, 2012, 1:26 pm

Poor little Maggie! It’s one of those things where all you can say is bless her heart!

  • Laurie February 9, 2012, 1:59 pm

Sweet little Maggie!!! I love her coat! My doxie gets cold too, always under a blanket on our sofa! It’s funny how animals can sense things like that!

  • Laura @ She Eats Well February 9, 2012, 2:08 pm

Maggie’s coat is too cute. And your breakfast looks yummy! Sometimes simple is best. Nothing beats eggs on buttered toast. If you still eat Gluten Free bread, I highly recommend trying Glutino’s flaxseed gluten free bread. It’s delicious! You could probably be able to buy it at a local health food store.

  • Amber K February 9, 2012, 2:28 pm

Aw, you have some of the cutest doggies ever. Although I prefer ones that don’t scare me thinking they’re seeing ghosts 😉

  • Angela @ Happy Fit Mama February 9, 2012, 2:31 pm

I’m drooling over the berries in your breakfast! Yum!

  • Emilie February 9, 2012, 2:54 pm

That is one good lookin’ breakfast

  • Kristen@Change of Pace February 9, 2012, 3:32 pm

My dalmatian wears a sweater inside. It can be 65 degrees outside and she shivers. She’s a wimp! Breakfast looks perfect!

  • Heidi - Apples Under My Bed February 9, 2012, 5:04 pm

hahaha maggie rocks. You’ve totally made me want eggs for breakfast. but I just ate breakfast. dang. tomorrow!
    Heidi xo

  • Katie February 9, 2012, 10:03 pm

Awww poor puppy…but at least you’re getting used to those early morning sudden wake-up calls. 😉

  • Maggie February 9, 2012, 10:22 pm

Maggie (my name is also Maggie, but I’m referring to YOUR Maggie) reminds me a lot of my dog. He is half Dachshund (and half Yorkie) and he shivers randomly/whenever/all the time…I can only conclude that he’s just an anxious little guy

  • Bizzle February 10, 2012, 12:29 am

Maggie looks totally freaked out in this pic. Poor thang!

  • Jesse (OutToLunchCreations) February 10, 2012, 9:48 am

This may sounds weird but have you ever politely asked the ghost to go away? Maybe if there is something there and it obliges Maggie would calm down and you could get some sleep.

  • Lexi @ Cura Personalis Foodie February 10, 2012, 11:06 pm

    Mmmm toast + eggs…classic!
