Four Random Things

#1:  Yes, I would like some oatmeal with my blueberries.

#2: My friend Courtney is hosting a birthday brunch party. Party starts at 10 AM.  I hear mimosas are going to be involved (for some of us), so I think it’s that kind of brunch.  Fun idea for a party, right?  There’s going to be more than enough food so I’m bringing flowers.

#3: Why do crumbs always collect in silverware drawers?  This has confounded me for years.  The only forks, knives, and spoons that go into the drawer are clean and crumb-free, and it’s not like you slice bread over an open drawer.  Discuss.

#4: I have finally figured out a way to keep all my hair fubbies (AKA hair ties) in one spot – hook them around a carabineer!  I used to loop them around a bottle of perfume but it was too hard to get one off if I wanted the fubby in the middle.  Problem solved.

All wonderful questions/discoveries/comments! That’s such a great idea for the hair ties – I think I’m going to do the same! And crumbs in the cutlery drawer is something that always baffles me too. Whenever the drawer is open, we’re either taking out a piece of cutlery, or emptying the CLEAN cutlery from the dishwasher. The crumbs are a mystery to me! Happy Saturday Caitlin, and have fun at brunch!

i think crumbs get in my drawer because whenever i’m cooking i open and close the silverware drawer a million times, and sometimes don’t close it all the way so they fall in?

I just put all my hair elastics in a container in my drawer…easy! And I think crumbs get into drawers because when you wipe the counter off, perhaps if the drawer is open a little bit, the crumbs fall into the drawer! At least that’s my guess anyways…

Enjoy your weekend!!

Just the other day, I was putting silverware away and thought of you, “Caitlin would be done already bc she just throws it in there!” But then I thought, who am I to judge? I have crumbs in my silverware drawer! Guess I’m not alone on that one – really hilarious you bring it up!

I never thought about how crumbs get in the silverware drawer but now I’m curious on that one! And I love the hairtie idea.

Have a great Saturday!

Your hair thing solution is genius! It seems no matter how hard I try to remember to bring a hair thing with me for the gym after work I always forget… If I had one of those attached to my bag I’d have no problemo :)

P.S. Your eats and flowers are beautiful!

I am also very confused why crumbs end up in the silverware drawer. I really have no explanation but it is one of those things that drives me crazy!

HAHA! I thought the same thing about the bread crumbs last week when I cleaned out my silverware drawer! How does it happen? Crumbs get everywhere! It is amazing!

The carabineer is a great idea for keeping my hair ties in one spot! Thanks so much for that tip, I have never thought about it and I have some carabiners somewhere :)

I put hair ties around my door handles in my bedroom and the adjoining bathroom! Not too much of an eyesore since only my hubby and I see them :)

#3 is definitely perplexing. Great question…no idea on the answer though! Although, if you ever get on eye level with your counter top you’ll notice a crap ton more crumbs than you can see from standing above it (at least on mine since the granite is a neutral kind of color) so it’s possible they fall in somehow when the drawer is open? It’s a stretch but it’s all I’ve got!

I still have a Caboodle (remember those?)from when I was 15 (I’m 32 now) and I put my hair ties in there. I use my Caboodle every single day. I’d be devastated if it ever broke. Do they still sell those things?

I’ve always wondered about the crumbs, too! Great idea about the hair ties! I always put them on doorknobs around the house. If I need one I look at the bedrooom or bathroom door knob and there’s bound to be one somewhere! : )

My hair ties are hung around the neck of a lotion bottle. They are all black, so I don’t have to worry about wanting a particular one. Although I love your idea! I just checked my silverware drawer and we don’t have any crumbs in there, so I can’t help you there.

Deanna February 18, 2012 at 2:42 pm

I have used a shower curtain hook for my hair ties for years. Just a slight variation of your idea here, but something people might already have laying around their house.

Heather Montgomery February 18, 2012 at 2:44 pm

We get crumbs bc sometimes the drawer isn’t closed all the way as I am cooking.

ha!! totally!

what the heck with the crumbs in the drawer. :) Good advice from all!

Margaret February 18, 2012 at 2:54 pm

The hairtie thing is genius! I keep them in a container in a drawer, but that’s still annoying to sort through to find the one I want. Flipping through them on a carabineer sounds much easier!

My first thought about the crumbs is that we reach in to grab silverware while preparing food, so perhaps crumbs fall off our hands while getting silverware out?

Reply

JessicaE February 18, 2012 at 3:04 pm

They actually make things like that specifically for hair ties :)

But your idea is resourceful and free since it was already around you house so I love it.

I always put my KEYS on a caribener and hook ‘em to a spot in my purse—-so easy to find!

No idea about the crumbs….. ??

omg – crumbs in the silverware drawer! What the hell? I’ve lived in my apartment for about a year and the other day noticed that. Where did they come from??

Also, no idea about the cutlery drawer, but now that’s really going to annoy me….!
