Breakfast at the Hamilton House

in All Posts

How about a little romance with breakfast?

IMG_7340

I usually get stuck at run-of-the-mill highway chain hotels during speaking events, but last night, the University of Wisconsin put me up at a lovely eight-room bed and breakfast in Whitewater called the Hamilton House.

I felt like I was staying at a friend’s house – I slept so well!

The best part, of course, was breakfast, which was prepared by the innkeeper.

She made me herbed eggs, cucumbers and spinach with dill, a mushroom, and a raspberry and blackberry soufflé.  Ridiculously good.  I want to stay at this B&B for the rest of my life.  Or bring the innkeeper home with me!

Too bad I was dining alone!  It would’ve been fun to have my sweetie with me.

Oh well.  At least I had my iPhone to keep me company… Smile

Speaking of romance – have you seen this video?  I watched it last night before bed and bawled my eyes out.  What a sweet proposal.

Too bad he didn’t work in the honey badger.

Wow what a lavish breakfast- so much more impressive than even hotel buffets!

  • Katy @ HaveYouHurd February 29, 2012, 9:23 am

Wow, the Hamilton Inn looks really beautiful! I really want to take my Mom to a nice B&B…I get Groupon’s for them all the time. Would that be weird?

    • Abby February 29, 2012, 12:30 pm

No, we gave my parents a Christmas gift using a coupon like that for another B&B in Wisconsin.

    • CaitlinHTP February 29, 2012, 5:21 pm

  • Stephanie @ Legally Blinde February 29, 2012, 11:06 am

I’ve never stayed at a B&B, but that looks really nice! Your breakfast looks delicious – especially the herbed eggs and mushroom. Glad you got a more fun experience than a regular highway hotel!

  • Amber @ Busy, Bold, Blessed February 29, 2012, 11:11 am

Looks awesome… the only time I’ve stayed at a B&B, the room was tiny and not that great… and the breakfast was tasty but it was such a tiny portion we were left wondering “where’s the rest?” I probably could’ve eaten 3 of the servings they gave out. I know you don’t eat meat, but seriously who eats only 1 slice of bacon at a time?

  • Joanne February 29, 2012, 11:19 am

We love B&B’s. They are so much more rewarding than staying in a hotel.

  • Stellina @ My Yogurt Addiction February 29, 2012, 11:21 am

Wow that breakfast looks amazing! I have never stayed at a B+B before because I have always been kind of skeptic about staying at someones house who I don’t know. Although I bet it’s more homey than staying at a hotel, which I may actually prefer!

  • Moni'sMeals February 29, 2012, 11:21 am

This looks like the cooziest B and B ever. I love the decor and Glad you slept well!

I had not seen that video…so sweet!

  • Kristen@Change of Pace February 29, 2012, 11:26 am

I’m give or take with B&B’s. I’m kind of an introvert so sitting and eating breakfast with people isn’t my thing but I love the decor and atmosphere. I love the savory breakfast!

  • Alex @ Raw Recovery February 29, 2012, 11:27 am

That looks like such an adorable B&B. I love places like that. Was that raspberry soufflé pure raspberries? It looks delicious.

    • CaitlinHTP February 29, 2012, 5:23 pm

I’m not sure! It was icy.

  • Jayce February 29, 2012, 11:32 am

Just wanted you to know I saw you on the morning news here in Tampa today (channel 10 – CBS)! It was interesting, though. They showed clips of the interviews with you and Molly, then contrasted with interviews of the beauty queens from the upcoming Strawberry Festival in Plant City. They also talked to some random older lady that calls herself a “makeup minimalist.” Um, where are the average everyday women?? I am currently 26 weeks preggo (only 9 days ahead of you!) and would totally do the project too if not for my zitty/splotchy preggo face and having to work in an office. Great job on the interview! They played the story weird, but you and Molly both sounded great :).

    • CaitlinHTP February 29, 2012, 5:23 pm

Awesome that they featured TNFP!!! LOLing about the other interviews, though.

  • Chelsea February 29, 2012, 11:47 am

Oh my gosh that video was precious <3!!! I would be bawling my eyes out haha I'm such a baby.

  • Annette @ EnjoyYourHealthyLife February 29, 2012, 12:04 pm

  • juli February 29, 2012, 12:56 pm

I’ve been married for 23 years and I too cried!! WOW!

  • Kelli February 29, 2012, 1:02 pm

I am so bummed I missed your talk last night! I work on campus and had to run a Girl Scouts meeting last night, otherwise I would have been there 🙂 I heard everything was great, and there are Operation Beautiful notes all over campus! So glad you enjoyed the B&B and our unseasonably warm weather. Hope your trip back brings no delays.

    • CaitlinHTP February 29, 2012, 5:28 pm

Aw I would’ve loved to meet you too!

      • Kelli February 29, 2012, 10:48 pm

Had to share with you…I ran into one of the profs on UW-Whitewater’s campus who was at your presentation last night. He said it was the most well attended event he has been at on campus in recent history! He actually asked me if I attended because he knows I am into “ab crunching”. Anyway, just wanted to send along the positive feedback…he said he really enjoyed the presentation and that his students in Applied Health Communication learned a lot 🙂

        • Caitlin March 1, 2012, 6:33 am

Aw thank makes me so happy!!

  • Brigid February 29, 2012, 1:33 pm

I love a good B&B, and that one looks charming and cozy without being cheesy. We’re spending our honeymoon in one in a couple of weeks.

Oh, and I totally can’t watch the video. I got married on Saturday, and for the past three weeks, everything related to love and weddings has me crying like a baby. Ha.

  • dee February 29, 2012, 1:37 pm

oh dear, that proposal! :’) I’m bawling at work!

ps. that looks like a really nice B&B.

  • Rebecca February 29, 2012, 1:45 pm

Aww, the romance of this post! That proposal was a.m.a.z.i.n.g — so sweet! That guy just set the bar really high 🙂

  • Emily February 29, 2012, 1:47 pm

Dessert at breakfast. I like this concept. I like it a lot.

  • JenRD February 29, 2012, 2:14 pm

I’m not even pregnant and that video made me cry! So sweet!

  • Amber K February 29, 2012, 2:28 pm

What a cute place! I prefer hotel chains because I like keeping to myself, but what a great breakfast spread.

  • Lisa (bakebikeblog) February 29, 2012, 3:29 pm

such an elegant breakfast – and an adorable guest house!

  • Dana @ the Big Fat Skinny February 29, 2012, 5:54 pm

I adore B&B’s! They are my favorite place to stay in small towns (or any town that has them!) My friends just had the most ADORABLE proposal on live TV, if you want to see something else very sweet: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nfQ9iwJPpoM

  • Joanne February 29, 2012, 6:35 pm

    The b &b looks awesome!

Nice temporary digs! How much was it a night? Did you pay for it? I’d like to stay there sometime!

If you didn’t pay for it, the FTC requires disclosure of the payer, see here:

    http://www.ftc.gov/opa/2009/10/endortest.shtm

The revised Guides also add new examples to illustrate the long standing principle that “material connections” (sometimes payments or free products) between advertisers and endorsers – connections that consumers would not expect – must be disclosed. e revised Guides specify that while decisions will be reached on a case-by-case basis, the post of a blogger who receives cash or in-kind payment to review a product is considered an endorsement. Thus, bloggers who make an endorsement must disclose the material connections they share with the seller of the product or service.

Likewise, if a company refers in an advertisement to the findings of a research organization that conducted research sponsored by the company, the advertisement must disclose the connection between the advertiser and the research organization. And a paid endorsement – like any other advertisement – is deceptive if it makes false or misleading claims.

    • CaitlinHTP February 29, 2012, 8:36 pm

Thanks for sending me the FTC guidelines and reminding me to disclose stuff. I always disclose freebies sent to me as a blogger, of course, but I guess this is kind of a tricky area because travel costs are included in my fees as a motivational speaker for Operation Beautiful. I guess I never thought about how this part of my business – which, of course, is tied to blogs – counts under the FTC rules. Again, thanks for the friendly reminder 🙂 I’ll revise the post to say that Wisconsin put me up at the hotel!

  • Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin February 29, 2012, 10:10 pm

That place is so cute! And what a great meal. Definitely way better than the continental breakfasts served at hotels! 😛

  • Coco March 1, 2012, 8:04 am

Cute video! I’m glad she said yes, because that would have been a real disappointment!
