Dinner By The Books

in Book Club!

Dinner was a good one.  This brand of frozen dinners is a bit pricey ($10) but still cheaper than delivery.

While munching, I finished up this awesome book, which I downloaded on Kindle thanks to Gina’s rave reviews.

The Midwife’s Confession was one of those books that leave you gasping, “Oh NO, she didn’t!” aloud as you turn the pages (or press the Kindle buttons).  I read the whole thing in two days and (sleepless) nights because I was so engrossed.

Back to dinner…

When unwrapping the Bibb lettuce, I noticed something funny…

Doesn’t it remind you of a well-known book cover?

In-Defense-of-Food-9780143114963

Yup!  In Defense of Food!

And then, while cutting the pizza into 10 little pieces…

I thought of this book (also a good read – although highly controversial).

And now, I’m thinking of dragging the Husband off the couch and to the ice cream shop.  I need me some Ben and Jerry’s.  I just searched Amazon.com for a book entitled “Pregnant Woman Needs Ice Cream,” but amazingly, such a novel does not exist.

i plan on milking my pregnancy for all it’s worth… including late nite ice cream trips!

I loved In Defense of Food! It definitely had an impact on the way I eat today.

I LOVED Midwife’s Confession – I love Chamberlain. She is an awesome author. I can’t put down anything I read from her!

  • AmandaonMaui December 27, 2011, 9:23 pm

I actually think it is red leaf lettuce on the cover of the book. Look at the leaf colors, shapes, etc. However, they do have a similar shape and no matter what kind of lettuce you’re eating, at least you’re eating real food with real fuel for your body. 🙂

The pizza looks delicious as well. I’ve not seen that brand here.

is Midwife’s Confession a book for pregnant women or mom’s, or is it for anyone? Because I’m intrigued!

    • CaitlinHTP December 28, 2011, 7:32 pm

Its just a chicklit novel. You’ll like it!

  • Sana December 27, 2011, 9:42 pm

I am not pregnant and I always need some ice cream!!

  • Marci December 27, 2011, 9:47 pm

I just finished that book yesterday. I thought it was long and had too many characters. Not my favorite! Good to pass time but not as good as Jodi picoult books which I read it was compared to.

Ooh, I LOVED A Million Little Pieces ~ controversy and all! And I just put The Midwife’s Confession on hold at the library. Thanks for reccommending!

  • Katie of Cabbage Ranch December 27, 2011, 10:32 pm

I liked A Million Little Pieces at first, but as it progressed I liked it less and less (until I put it aside and never finished it!)… and I couldn’t understand why it was ever mistaken for fact. BUT! I maintain that a memoir is not meant to be an absolutely factual account. I keep meaning to read In Defense of Food. Thanks for the reminder!

I loved A Million Little Pieces. I lent it to a friend who never gave it back and I’ve been too chicken to ask for it! Controversy aside, I thought that book was great. Putting The Midwife’s Confession on my reading list!

  • Khushboo December 27, 2011, 11:13 pm

I think pregnancy is as good a reason as tonsillitis for some ice cream- do ittt!

  • Andrea December 27, 2011, 11:25 pm

I recently saw a book titled “Do chocolate lovers have sweeter babies?” I haven’t read it but it sounds interesting!

    • CaitlinHTP December 28, 2011, 11:16 am

hahah that could’ve been ‘my’ book last night!

    • Kristie December 28, 2011, 4:28 pm

It’s fantastic! Almost a “Freakonomics” for pregnancy. I highly recommend it!

  • Lindsay Loves Veggies December 28, 2011, 12:44 am

I read A Million Little Pieces about 5 years ago. I really liked it at the time. Too bad it wasn’t actually true, but oh well! Thanks for the recommendation of The Midwife’s Confession. I’m looking for books to put on my reading list for next year! 🙂

  • gina (fitnessista) December 28, 2011, 12:49 am

  • Ami@dashofcurry.com December 28, 2011, 6:29 am

I’ve seen that pizza brand in the store, and it looks amazing! Hope you got your ice cream fix!

  • Jodi @ Jodeexi Writes December 28, 2011, 8:29 am

I loved “A Million Little Pieces” and all the other books James Frey has written…true or not 😉

  • Chelsea December 28, 2011, 9:17 am

I’m reading like crazy lately! But for me it’s The Black Dagger Brotherhood 😉 Hot & sexy vampires with romance scenes? Yes please!

  • delia December 28, 2011, 9:19 am

James Frey is one of my favorites. Theres a sequel btw – My Friend Leonard.

  • Tabitha December 28, 2011, 9:45 am

Before I Go To Sleep is also a great book and hard to put down.

  • Lauren December 28, 2011, 10:22 am

I’m about 1/3 through The Midwife’s Confession. I agree, it’s a good read! It’s really keeping my interest and I’m getting anxious to see how it turns out. I’m adding A Million Little Pieces to my reading list.

  • Shannon December 28, 2011, 11:58 am

I read a million litle pieces years ago when Oprah first endorsed it…then she took it back because he lied about the whole thing.

Midwives confession looks good that will be next on my list! I like to read a lot over break before I get back to full time pharmacy school and studying.

Current read: Kris Kardashian’s (Jenner) memoir. For some reason I love celebrity memoirs, and this isn’t about her socialite daughters its about her life pre-fame. It’s actually really interesting because of her upbringing and personal relationships with OJ Simpson and Nicole Brown Simpson. Definitely good if you are into memoirs!

  • Sarah December 28, 2011, 12:15 pm

Maybe that could be your novel idea – Pregnant Woman Needs Ice Cream! Right now I’m in between books, and can’t decide what to read next. I keep seeing the Midwife’s Confession all over the blog world, so I’ll add that to the list of contenders!

  • Allison December 28, 2011, 4:12 pm

I started reading “A Million Little Pieces” a couple of years ago but didn’t make it very far- worth the read?! My momma gave me Jodi Pocoult’s “House Rules” for Christmas that I’m eager to dive into!

    • CaitlinHTP December 28, 2011, 7:35 pm

      I really liked it!

  • Jen December 28, 2011, 8:15 pm

Against the Grain pizzas are good – so are their bagels. The BEST GF pizza I’ve had is from a mix – Namaste brand. (at Earthfare) It’s also dairy/nut/potato free. You need a 14″ pizza pan though. Their brownie and cookie mixes are yummy too!

  • Dana @ the Big Fat Skinny December 29, 2011, 8:08 am

Oooo … I loved A Million Little Pieces. I’ve been looking for a good book to get me back in the game (too many toddler books and not enough adult lit as of late). The Midwife’s Confession might be the one! Looks good!

If it doesn’t exist, you should write it!
