Falafel Friday

in All Posts

Not an exciting Friday night.  But at least the sink is emptied.  Right?

It’s all about me, Maggie, and the couch tonight.  Maybe staying in on a Friday night isn’t so bad after all.

In my defense, the Husband and I did make it out of the house a bite to eat.  We were torn between a snazzy Italian place – very sleek and modern – and a hole-in-the-wall Middle Eastern and Mediterranean joint called Kabob Grill.

Guess which one won out?

Falafels for everyone!

I ordered two appetizers – the falafel app, made from chickpeas, fava beans, cilantro, spices and tahini sauce.

And the yalanji, stuffed grape leaves with rice, garlic, onion, tomato, spices, lemon juice, and olive oil.

I managed to eat nearly every single one.  So good.  I’m turning into a grape leaf.  For dessert? A snowflake-shaped York peppermint patty.  And a bowl of cereal.  Pregnancy hunger has official kicked in.

So – what are you guys doing tonight? Anything wild and crazy or more like my Friday night?  Holler for returns of Grey’s Anatomy!

Tony is working and I’m keeping him company. I have to work tomorrow so nothing crazy here. I’ve been craving falafel lately. I need to get my butt in the kitchen since I seem to be craving more now that I don’t have as much time to cook! Studying, developing recipes, working outside of the house and working with Tony is really starting to kick my butt! I hope you have a great weekend!

Nothing wild and crazy here. Spent the evening at Whole Foods and now catching up on the last SNL!

Now I really want a snowflake-shaped peppermint patty.

We’re on mission: clean up the house this weekend too! Our sink looked much like (worse than) yours. I really wish I was the kind of person that was good at keeping the house clean, but I’m just not.

The most wild and crazy we get these days is if we decide to make grocery shopping a family trip instead of a solo one, lol.

Enjoy your chill Friday night. Watch all the tv you want, read books, paint your nails, organize your closets…do it all now. Oh, and sleep while the sleeping’s still good 🙂

When I was pregnant it was interesting to notice how your hunger changes from week to week. Enjoy it now! Oh, and when I watched last night’s episode of Grey’s, I teared up. Just like I have at some point at almost every episode ever since having my son! Those darn hormones!! lol

    • Shari November 11, 2011, 10:10 pm

Last night’s episode of Grey’s was definitely a tear-jerker. I was so completely caught off-guard by parts of it that my mouth literally fell open. So not happy with Shonda right about now!

I love relaxing Friday nights in. Tonigh I did laundry, caught up on The Good Wife and ate cupcakes :). Hope you have a great night!

  • Shrinking mommy of 2 November 11, 2011, 9:58 pm

Many of your fridays will probably stay in once baby is born. We stayed in and watched a movie, then early bed…so mommy can have tv/computer time. haha

  • Tanya November 11, 2011, 9:59 pm

    That’s pregnancy hunger.

Maybe its just me (because I’m a horrible binger 7 nights a week and have no self-control, I just can’t end the battle)…but man I eat so much more than that.

I wonder if I will ever reach your level of contentment with food. Its an overeating monster battle for me.

  • colleen November 11, 2011, 10:17 pm

Oh yes, it is a wild and crazy night here. Floors are vacuumed, dishes done, laundry started, and one child in bed.

  • Rebecca November 11, 2011, 10:31 pm

I got a new stove so I spent the night making home-made sauce and now I have brownies in the oven. Woohoo wild and crazy. I should mention that I’m in college so this is particularly sad (but in an okay way because I love quiet nights).

  • emily November 11, 2011, 11:09 pm

    Holler!

  • Lauren November 11, 2011, 11:10 pm

Your night is just about my speed! I made some baked southwestern egg rolls, mixed up some cocktails, and cleared off the counter 🙂 I’m just glad it’s friiiday!

  • Priyanka November 11, 2011, 11:12 pm

My friday night is like yours! I jinxed myself and have some wicked N&V going on..blah! Although Friday has the capability of making anything better, just not waking up to rush for work tomorrow is so nice.

  • Khushboo November 11, 2011, 11:33 pm

I could eat tahini sauce by the bowl- so yum!

  • Rebecca November 12, 2011, 12:26 am

I did laundry and dishes after class this morning. That was pretty good.
My roommates both went out to dinner with their boyfriends, and I hung out on the internet. Then we all watched the second Transformers movie. I’m thinking about staying up later than usual and sleeping most of tomorrow (all I have to do is work at 7pm), but that probably won’t happen, haha. This is a typical Friday for me, actually. I’m a boring college kid.

  • Rachel November 12, 2011, 1:32 am

My husband and I helped my parents move tonight…that’s it!!

  • Yolie @ Practising Wellness November 12, 2011, 2:12 am

Sounds like an awesome night to me! The Kiwi was just saying to me that we’ve become very homey – and that he likes it. We just have heaps of fun hanging out together, it’s fun even doing nothing and just chillin’ on a (not so freaky) Friday! 😉 Especially after a busy work week..it’s winding down time!
We were actually visting my Mum and Dad’s on Friday becuase it’s her 56th birthday (YAY!) so we sat around the table laughing and talking and eating and opening presents until midnight Friday night, all of us – SO much fun <3 <3 <3 xyx

  • Katie @ Peace Love and Oats November 12, 2011, 6:27 am

LOVE falafels! We have a new place by my school called I Dream of Falafel!

  • Sarah@The Flying ONION November 12, 2011, 7:20 am

Falafel is one of those foods that I love the sound of and yet have never tried (sad, but true!) This needs to change. 😉

  • Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin November 12, 2011, 8:04 am

There’s nothing wrong with a tame Friday night – I find it’s the best way to unwind after the week! I just stayed in and watched an Everwood marathon with my friend.

  • Hillary November 12, 2011, 8:05 am

You think that’s bad? I graded essays for three hours last night. I didn’t even have the TV on in the background. It was really crazy over here.

At least when I finished, my boyfriend and I watched a movie. That kind of redeemed me from total dull-dom!

  • Kristyn November 12, 2011, 8:14 am

Yay for pregnancy hunger! 🙂 live it up. Big time. 🙂 We are all about relaxing Friday nights 🙂 warm meal in the belly, the couch, and cuddling with the big dog. Hope you all enjoyed your night!

  • Maren November 12, 2011, 8:17 am

We watched tv..Well Nate watched tv and I sat on pinterest. And we were in bed at 9:45…which meant I was wide awake at 6 this morning! Happy Weekend!

  • Amanda November 12, 2011, 8:25 am

Friday nights are for relaxing and catching up on tv shows at my house. 🙂

I’m going to attempt to make homemade vegan peppermint patties this week. I’ll post about it assuming they aren’t a total disaster!

  • Karlee @olivewineandfood November 12, 2011, 9:08 am

  • Steph November 12, 2011, 9:49 am

  • J @ Ess and Jae V2.0 November 12, 2011, 12:11 pm

Oh, I love relaxing Friday nights with no obligations after a long and busy week. Aaahhhhhh……!

  • Amber K November 12, 2011, 1:14 pm

I definitely felt like getting out of the house last night. Played some pool, got my drink with a cherry and everything. But a nice relaxing night is all I’m looking forward to tonight.

  • Julia H. @ The Petite Spiel November 12, 2011, 3:42 pm

My Friday night consisted of eating cookies & playing Taboo with a bunch of people in my suite. Good times!

  • Fran@ Broken Cookies Don't Count November 12, 2011, 5:52 pm

Both of those dishes look wonderful, especially the falafal. There aren’t any middle eastern restaurants around here. Wis there were. Yum.

  • Heather November 15, 2011, 3:33 pm
