A Little Something Extra

in All Posts

Nicole and I talk about a lot of things on our runs.  Work.  The menfolk.  Decorating.  Etsy obsession.  But today, we just talked about how much we appreciate having a running buddy.

We covered 8.0 miles in 1 hour and 30 minutes.  We started to take regular walking breaks after 6.0 miles.  It nice out, too.  Not too hot, just shady enough.  All in all – a perfect run.

Updated the training plan!

Have I mentioned that Nicole is doing the half, too?  I hope we can do all of our long runs together…

When I got home, I noticed that the Husband had been nice enough to prep a little dinner for me.

But that meal was no match for my 8.0-mile appetite.  So I boiled some quinoa, added some BBQ sauce and silvered almonds for extra protein, and made it into a yummy mess.

In the mix:

Roasted potatoes

Roasted carrots

Roasted green bean

Roasted potatoes

Baked tofu

Quinoa

Almonds

BBQ Sauce

Very tasty.

And a big bowl of cereal.  Panda Puffs return.  Two boxes are stashed in my pantry.

We’re watching:

win win

Win Win.  So far, so good!

I love a good run, especially when it happens with a person whom I admire! glad you had a great one tonight 🙂

I am usually not that hungry after a long run–just really thirsty. But after weight training (I teach BodyPUMP) I am in the mood for anything and everything that has protein in it. So weird how my body JUST knows. Heh.

  • kathleen @ the daily crumb September 12, 2011, 10:08 pm

running buddies are of utmost importance, especially for distance training!!

what i would do for a husband who has dinner waiting when i come home from a run…. 🙂

I love love love the flavor of Panda Puffs but they cut up my mouth sooo bad. The roof of my mouth ends up being SUPER sensitive the rest of the day. How weird is that!?

    • Caitlin September 13, 2011, 10:37 am

That… is… terrible. I am so sad for you 🙁

  • Katie @ Peace Love and Oats September 12, 2011, 10:17 pm

I keep meaning to try panda puffs – but every time i’m in the store I rethink it and decide not too because I’m afraid I’ll eat the whole box at once! I wish I had a running buddy! No I know runs as far as I like… or runs at all. haha

Congrats on accomplishing another training run! What a good husband you have, such a delicious looking end of the day meal 🙂 I’m glad I’m not the only one who has a cereal snacking obsessions…Puffin’s are my weakness 🙂

Great job on your run! I did 8 miles on Sunday and my appetite was crazy the whole day. I love long runs.

  • Shaya (Eye Girl Eats) September 12, 2011, 10:34 pm

Great job on your run today!!

Sometimes the best dinners are the messiest-looking 🙂

  • katie @ KatieDid September 12, 2011, 10:44 pm

Nice run! I always felt like anything over 6 was really getting up there in mileage (for me). I’m referring back to your easy tofu recipe tomorrow as I’m cooking it for the first time!

  • Gina @ Running to the Kitchen September 12, 2011, 10:55 pm

Nice job on the long run! I ran a horrible 5 miles today ( it was hot, long and hard for some reason) and my appetite was raging the rest of the day! It’s weird to have that happen after only 5 miles but, I happily obliged my stomach 🙂

  • Averie @ Love Veggies and Yoga September 12, 2011, 10:55 pm

Coming home to dinner on the table, even if you had to doctor it up a bit…wow, what a treat! And to have a running buddy for 90 mins..another treat! 🙂

  • Joey September 13, 2011, 12:13 am

Jealous of the running buddy! Being a new runner in a new city = no running buddies for me 🙁 Have fun on all your runs together! 🙂

  • Khushboo September 13, 2011, 12:16 am

I want a running buddy! I bet those 8 miles zoomed by- well done 🙂

  • Kate (What Kate is Cooking) September 13, 2011, 12:42 am

I need a running buddy! The only person I’ve ever run with is my cousin, which is fun, but she doesn’t live close for it to be a regular thing.

  • Brooke (Tea & Tofu) September 13, 2011, 12:56 am

Your hubby is so sweet for whipping up dinner to you – much more thoughtful than most men, I’m sure!

I too wish I had an exercise buddy. Must be handy having someone to meet with when the motivation is waning…

  • Keri @ Blue-Eyed Runner September 13, 2011, 6:36 am

Funny story about that movie- the director or writer (I forget) grew up in my hometown, a realllllllly small town in NJ. The high school setting- the colors, the mascot (Pioneers) everything was based on/set in our town! I haven’t seen the movie yet but a few years ago we saw them filming and it created a big buzz in our little town! Hope it turns out to be a good movie 🙂

  • Hillary September 13, 2011, 7:09 am

Is it weird that I’ve never had a real running buddy? It’s definitely something I need—a little conversation goes a long way on a long run!

    • Caitlin September 13, 2011, 10:36 am

Yes! You need a bud. Start talking to random women you run into on your runs and try to pick one up!

  • Cait @ Beyond Bananas September 13, 2011, 7:24 am

Let us know how the rest of the movie was

  • Cait @ Beyond Bananas September 13, 2011, 7:25 am

Let us know how the rest of the movie was!!

Yay for running buddies. I had one.. for my first half, but she is now injured, so we really only had one buddy run 🙁

    • Caitlin September 13, 2011, 10:35 am

Wahhhh. I hope your buddy feels better soon!

  • Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin September 13, 2011, 7:45 am

Nice job on the run! I wish I had a running buddy – I think having one would definitely motivate me to increase my mileage!

  • Molly @ RDexposed September 13, 2011, 7:49 am

That’s a nice spread of vegetables!!

    • Caitlin September 13, 2011, 10:33 am

      TWSS!

  • Kelly September 13, 2011, 8:18 am

Running buddies are essential to me…glad you and Nicole have one another!!

  • Erin @ The Grass Skirt September 13, 2011, 8:18 am

I watched Win Win last weekend and really liked it! I wasn’t sure what to make of it at first, but I was pleasantly surprised. 🙂

  • Carolina John September 13, 2011, 8:25 am

It can be really nice to have a running buddy. Good job knocking down the 8!

  • Amanda- The Nutritionist Reviews September 13, 2011, 9:21 am

That’s so sweet that he made dinner. It looks awesome.

  • Amber K September 13, 2011, 12:59 pm

I’m such a solo exerciser. I love spending that time alone, just with the thoughts in my head or sometimes lost in a magazine at the gym. I don’t mind going for a walk with a friend, but if I’m doing anything more than that I just want to be left alone. I almost feel like an only child because I love being alone! I think my brother and I were just a little too far apart in age to connect fully and we always did our own thing.

  • Mary September 13, 2011, 5:15 pm

I finished my first 11 mile run ever today training for my first half marathon on Sept. 24. It took me 2 hours, but I finished! My running buddy is out with an injury, though, so I had to go it alone :(. My sister will be racing with me so I am looking forward to that so much!
