Come On, Irene

in All Posts

Batten down the hatches!  Hurricane Irene seems pretty intent on raining on Lauren’s bachelorette weekend.

We just decided to move her shower up by a few hours so everyone can safely drive in and get out before the rain comes.  No one wants to cancel because Lauren doesn’t even live in the USA anymore, and so many people came from so far to celebrate!  Plus, we don’t want to miss out on a chocolate fountain.  Obviously.

Irene couldn’t stop us from celebrating last night.  The group that is staying in the hotel got gussied up and headed out for a lovely dinner at Buddakahn.

Since our group was so big, we got to sit at the special communal table in the center of the restaurant.

Lauren drank her wine out of a fancy bedazzled goblet, which her sister crafted.  Anything that draws extra attention to the bride is a good idea!  Free drinks!

Even the boys at the bar we went to afterwards was jealous of her goblet.  I said that her sister should start selling these things on Etsy.    Her sister would make a fortune!

Anyway – the food at Buddakan was amazing.  Impossible to photograph, but it was an amazing blend of Asian fusion eats, served family style.

Another veggie friend and I split tofu Pad Thai, Chinese broccoli, and edamame ravioli.   I would love to recreate the edamame at home.

We came home at 2:00 and tackled Diana’s coconut macaroons.

And, amazingly, everyone was up at 9:00.  We watched the weather station for a while and decided to go grab a free breakfast at the hotel.

It wasn’t very good.  But it was free.  So it was all good! Omelet, fruit, and strange hashbrowns.

To the tune of “Come on, Eileen Irene,” we’re headed out to the bridal shower.  Keep your fingers crossed that Lauren’s day isn’t rained out!

  • Courtney August 27, 2011, 11:45 am

I totally thought of that song when I heard the hurricane was named “Irene!” Eileen would have been much better! 😛

  • Chelsea August 27, 2011, 12:01 pm

Those goblets are super cute! I’m just waiting for the pictures of post Irene and see if it does anything. I’m waaaay used to hurricanes now living in Texas lol. Way to not let it rain on your parade 😉

  • Gina @ Running to the Kitchen August 27, 2011, 12:12 pm

  • Diana August 27, 2011, 12:23 pm

I LOVE that goblet 🙂 so cute! On my bachelorette, I wore a white dress and sash out to dinner, and a nice couple sitting near us bought us two bottles of champagne 🙂

Sending good vibes that you’ll escape the worst of the weather!

Ahhh, I LOVE Buddakhan! It’s the only place I ever want to eat when I’m in Philly.

You ladies are troopers! Don’t let no stinkin’ hurricane come between you and bachelorette fun.

  • Sophie @ threetimesf August 27, 2011, 1:34 pm

Glad you’re still managing to party so far! Take care… 🙂

  • Army Amy* August 27, 2011, 1:36 pm

I second the Etsy idea! The goblet is super cute!*

  • Jen August 27, 2011, 1:36 pm

Swanky! I used to work for the publishing company in the offices above Buddahkan, so we used to get food sent up for meetings with editors all! the! time! One of the best perks of the job. 🙂

Also, one evening back in the day, my ex picked me up from work, and I found $80 in the gutter. So we turned around and walked back to work…I treated him to dinner there.

    • Caitlin August 29, 2011, 11:28 am

  • Nicole (Mrs. Muffins) August 27, 2011, 1:42 pm

So, I showed my husband the goblet and I told him it looked like a pimp cup to me. He said, “Most pimp cups are goblets but not all goblets are pimp cups.” I died. Haha! Glad Irene’s not keeping the bachelorette festivities at bay. xx

    • Deva (Voracious Vorilee) August 27, 2011, 2:28 pm

I want to bust out paint and make a venn diagram of that now, haha!

  • Averie @ Love Veggies and Yoga August 27, 2011, 4:33 pm

  • Mary @ Bites and Bliss August 27, 2011, 5:30 pm

  • Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin August 27, 2011, 6:24 pm

That’s such a good idea to move everything up a few hours. I’m glad you’re not letting a “little rain” ruin your fun! 😉

  • Tt in nyc August 29, 2011, 8:12 pm

Edamame ravioli in about 15min- wonton wrappers from refrigerated section, wet outer edges, add blob of edamamemus from trader joes (or make ur own) seal with another wonton skin, cut extra off edges if you dont want huge ones, boil for about five to seven min. Stupid easy ravioli thats “home made”!
