Sunday Chores

in All Posts

I think there are two types of ‘neat’ people:

  • Neat people who are always neat.  They pick up after themselves, tidy as they go, and do cr-azy things like wash dishes before going to bed (okay, I’m just jealous).

  • Neat people who like the idea of being neat but lack the ability to actually be neat.  They are only neat in theory.  So they clean frantically every Sunday, trash the house throughout the week, bemoan how messy it is, and then re-clean on Sunday.

Yea.  I’m totally the second type of neat person.  This morning involved lots of chores.   But at least now I can walk into my office without tripping over bike shoes, cardboard boxes (stocking up just in case this house thing actually happens), and golf clubs.  Score!

Breakfast:

Have you tried raw oats with yogurt yet?  So much better than cereal or granola.  I promise!   Also in the bowl: chia seeds, Greek vanilla yogurt, and a banana.

Lunch was that amazing sandwich, but with navy beans instead of kidney beans.

And loads and loads of steamed and salted greens (kale, collard greens, mustard).  My liver needs to detox from Friday’s shenanigans.

I spy a sink that could use a scrubbing…

I’m totally the second type of neat person too! Actually, I should be doing chores right now… 🙂

  • Shannon June 26, 2011, 2:41 pm

Well once you get all your chores done you can relax and wont have to worry about them anymore =)

    Have a great Sunday!!

  • Emily June 26, 2011, 2:46 pm

Haha, that’s great. I’m type two also. Usually it gets to Friday evening and I survey the destruction around me and totally freak out and get all uncomfortable with it. Even though the whole week where I’ve been coming home and dumping stuff it hasn’t bothered me.

I think most people have the potential to be type one though. A lot of mothers seem to acquire the necessary skills when they see how much mess kids make.

  • Freya June 26, 2011, 2:54 pm

Haha, I am a Type Two too! My whole family are, and it is somewhat annoying..cos the house looks a mess! Bah, I have better things to do than clean anyway :p

  • The Healthy Engineer June 26, 2011, 3:02 pm

This year I’m gonna live in an apartment for the first time instead of a dorm and I’m not looking forward to cleaning the bathroom. BLEH

  • Annette @ EnjoyYourHealthyLife June 26, 2011, 3:05 pm

I think I am the first kind….I LIKE doing the dishes. Weird, I know.

    Looks like a yummy b-fast!!

  • Christine June 26, 2011, 3:08 pm

I try so hard to be number one, but I have to admit being number two. Better than being unlisted number three (Slobby McSlobberson), right?

  • Susan June 26, 2011, 3:25 pm

I’m a mix of both, but tend to lean towards type 2. I’m pretty good at keeping things neat and tidy after I do the major one day clean up, but after a week or two, things usually start to slide. Currently, it’s been 3 weeks and things still look pretty good, but this is a reminder that I should spend 20 minutes or so and tidy things up.

  • Katherine June 26, 2011, 3:25 pm

    Ya, second one 😀

  • Liz June 26, 2011, 3:31 pm

Shocker, I’m taking a break from being the 2nd type as I type this!! Haha. It doesn’t help that my husband is the same way except he will wait 6 weeks before his next clean binge. I’m trying to get both of us to do more daily things to keep this from happening…

  • Wendy June 26, 2011, 3:43 pm

Have you ever heard of Flylady? She helped me become more Type 1 than Type 2, though going from working part time from home to full time as a teacher really set me back. I’m working on getting back to Type 1 over my summer break. 🙂

    • Caitlin June 27, 2011, 11:43 am

I have heard of FlyLady! She’s awesome.

  • Alison June 26, 2011, 3:48 pm

I’m seriously type 1. Except I HATE washing the floor. Too much time elapses between moppings.

  • Mary @ Bites and Bliss June 26, 2011, 3:50 pm

I’m definitely the second kind of neat! I clean something and tell myself “Ok, I’m going to clean a little every night and that way it’ll never get messy”…but that thought gets shot down the very next day. I’m really good at speed cleaning though! 😉

  • giordin June 26, 2011, 3:50 pm

i think i’m the second type of neat, but i often try to disguise myself as the first type of neat. im trying reeeeaaaally hard to keep my kitchen neat and tidy, but it’s SO hard during a busy week! sometimes i neglect my dishes in order to NOT neglect my puppy. i think that’s nicer for everyone!

  • Laura Ann June 26, 2011, 3:55 pm

Yes, type two to a T! I drive myself crazy wishing and hoping, trying and failing to turn into type 1.

  • erica June 26, 2011, 4:10 pm

i’m TOTALLY the second type of neat. the bf is EXACTLY the first type of neat. he makes me feel like a slob. hahahahha!

  • Jeanelle @ Glocal Girl June 26, 2011, 4:18 pm

I used to be type 2 clean but my neat-freak of a boyfriend has turned me more into #1. How I miss my old ways. I swear, my car used to be a second home, I could find EVERYTHING there… and nothing at the same time, ha!

  • Cait @ Beyond Bananas June 26, 2011, 4:23 pm

I am the second type too! When we first moved into our place.. I was more of a number one. But old habits die hard.. and I am not longer an actual neat person!

  • Angela (Oh She Glows) June 26, 2011, 4:27 pm

I’m def. #2 when it comes to cleaning. Its more fun that way 😉

  • lynne @lgsmash June 26, 2011, 4:29 pm

i’m mostly the second type too! (looks like most of us are!) i loooove how my apartment feels when it’s spic-n-span but the weekdays get too hectic to clean everything up each night. 🙂 part hactic, part lazy.

  • Courtney @ girl in the pink June 26, 2011, 4:32 pm

Thanks for my planning my menu for tomorrow! Breakfast tomorrow will consist of oats and yogurt- love that idea! And that sandwich looks delicious, I’ve never used beans like that on a sandwich!

  • Lindsay Loves Veggies June 26, 2011, 4:36 pm

Haha I am definitely also one of those people who WANTS to be neat! I absolutely love the feeling of a clean house, but there just never seems to be enough hours in a day to clean!

  • Sana June 26, 2011, 4:40 pm

Yeah, only pick up after myself in the way of dishes every days, everything after that is left for the weekend!

  • Sonia (the Mexigarian) June 26, 2011, 4:48 pm

Type 2 as well. My husband is Type 1. I drive him nuts 😀 I go on major cleaning sprees when I can’t take a mess any more. I think it’s more to laziness on my part. I got better things to do than clean. . . like play with the cats.

  • Ashley @ the fit academic June 26, 2011, 4:49 pm

I LOOOVE the raw oats with yogurt thing! Stole it from you and now its one of my breakfast staples!

  • Yolie @ Practising Wellness June 26, 2011, 5:05 pm

Lol! I used to be type 2 but now I live in a shared house with 3 guys, and feel it is necessary to tidy all the time because we have communal areas, and have now completely transitioned to type 1 out of cortesy to my housemates 🙂 but mine and my boyfriend’s room can descend into chaos if i’m not careful, lol! He needs me to tidy up after him a little but I dont mind…we’re a team! :-)xyx

  • Lindsey June 26, 2011, 5:34 pm

I am totally the type of person that has to tackle my to do list before I can do any type of fun activities or rest, if not the “list” lingers and stresses me out. My husband can’t stand it! I am trying to be less like this, after all we need to live a little sometimes and not always a list 😉

  • Angie June 26, 2011, 5:41 pm

Raw oats with yogurt is the best breackfast.
I also add sunflower and pumpkin seeds (yet to try chia) and some honey and banana. Always fills me up until lunchtime!
I’m the second type of neat too.

  • Deva (Voracious Vorilee) June 26, 2011, 6:14 pm

I’m a mix of both, tending toward type one. I do the dishes and wipe the countertops down before bed, and sweep up, too. I try to pick up as I go along, and really only have mail and cat toys get out of hand throughout the week.

I do hate to scrub grout, though.

  • Gina @ Running to the Kitchen June 26, 2011, 6:19 pm

I used to be the 1st type and somehow I’m deteriorating into the 2nd! I don’t know how or why but my house looks like hell come Sunday recently!

  • Jane June 26, 2011, 6:53 pm

I am definitely a combo of both, but option #2 usually wins. I went on a cleaning spree today, which always is a good start to the week. Maybe I’ll keep it up this week… maybe.

  • ashley @ ashley's adventures in alaska June 26, 2011, 7:15 pm

I’m totally a “trash the house and then clean it once a week” kind of person, but I’m working getting better at cleaning up as I go. If only there were more hours in the day for training, work, dogs, a husband, and having a life outside of all of that! 🙂

  • Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin June 26, 2011, 8:05 pm

I’m #1 when it comes to the kitchen, but #2 when it comes to any other room. My bedroom is always a huge mess of clothes and books strewn about. 😛

  • Michelle (The Runner's Plate) June 26, 2011, 8:15 pm

I have to admit, I am the first type. I cannot go to bed without making sure everything is in its place. I sometimes wonder if I have issues.

  • Catherine@happinessafterheartache June 26, 2011, 8:43 pm

I am a combo of both – I do clean up after myself….and my husband…and my twins….and my dogs….as I go most of the time. But big chores like cleaning the bathroom I do less often.

  • chelsey @ clean eating chelsey June 26, 2011, 8:49 pm

I’m totally the first kind of neat. I hate it when the hosue is messy!!!

  • Laura @ Cookies vs. Carrots June 26, 2011, 8:57 pm

I am definitely the second type. Hence the pile of laundry waiting to be folded, the clean plates in the dishwasher waiting to be unloaded, and the boxes from moving (a month ago) still waiting to be unpacked.

  • Sarah June 26, 2011, 9:37 pm

You can start out as Type One, but once you have kids you end up as a Type Two, whether you like it or not!! It’s just not possible to keep up.

    • Caitlin June 27, 2011, 11:42 am

      Better than a Type 3 🙂 which is a ‘I don’t give a crap’ cleaner.

  • katie @ KatieDid June 26, 2011, 11:10 pm

Im totally the first type of person naturally, but I swear I’m not crazy haha! Its just how I function, and I need to clean as I go to lessen stress for myself. I procrastinate just about everything else in my life though, so I can proudly boast my cleaning habits.

  • Jackie @ That Deep Breath June 27, 2011, 12:02 am

I’m definitely the second type of neat person…I like things to be neat but I wait to clean until I can’t stand it anymore!

  • Khushboo June 27, 2011, 12:38 am

Haha at the risk of sounding anal, I am more of the first kinda neat! I just hate having to deal with a piled up mess! Raw oats and yogurt is the best-. When I tell friends about it, they find the idea of eating raw oats very strange – their loss!

  • Amber K June 27, 2011, 11:41 am

I actually had oats with Greek yogurt this morning, although I prefer the texture if I mix them together the night before I eat it. So delish!

  • Crystal June 27, 2011, 1:36 pm

Ok, I totally LOL’d at your two types of neat people. I’m so jealous of those type 1’s….

  • Jo June 27, 2011, 1:57 pm

Yess! Raw oats with yogurt are the bee’s knees! It’s my go-to breakfast when I need something to hold me over for, I dunno, almost HALF a day(it’s happened). I also have them with banana slices, but sometimes I go crazy and throw in berries, apple or raisins. Wish I could get chia seeds (and quinoa and garbanzo beans for that matter) here though, but no dice.
