Spring Cleaning

in All Posts

GREAT news – I woke up this morning and my knee felt a lot better.  If it was a 7 after my run (10 is ‘take me to the hospital immediately’) and a 5 after acupuncture and cupping, now it’s just a 2.  Whew! I try not to panic when sometime seems sore post-workout (all these thoughts of “OMG, am I going to have to drop out of my upcoming half marathon?!” start to whirl through my brain) because, more often than not, it’s okay… as long as I rest!

I’m still planning to play it safe in the next two weeks; I’ll probably drastically reduce my planned mileage.  I’d rather run two non-PR (personal record) Half Marathons than none at all!

Breakfast was eaten in a mad dash as the Husband and I tried to get out of the house for a 9 AM meeting:

Two scrambled eggs, spinach, and Italian herbs in a tube (which are really, really good – they are in the produce section) on rosemary and oil olive bread.

With a banana, too:

Post-meeting, we came home and made lunch.

Leftover pizza rules.

Two slices of artichoke pizza with a spinach salad.

So, my Husband’s sister, Sophie, is moving back from England to America tomorrow!  She’s been doing contract work in London for the last eight months or so but will be moving back permanently.  I’m so excited!  We have to drive to Atlanta tomorrow to pick her up from the airport, but we’re going to spend today cleaning the house for her arrival.

This includes gardening:

The British are coming – that cracked me up, hehe!

  • Natalia - a side of simple March 12, 2011, 11:50 am

Leftover pizza is SO good. Seriously, I’ve made pizza before and just saved it for the next day because I love it so much. I may/may not even eat in cold in the morning when I’m feeling extra special…

    • Orla March 12, 2011, 2:12 pm

Ha! I have also been known to eat cold pizza in the morning!! yum yum!

    • Amber K March 13, 2011, 12:22 pm

Leftover pizza should always be eaten cold in my house! 😉

  • Lizz @ Leading the Good Life March 12, 2011, 11:52 am

    Bahahahaha!! 🙂

  • Katie @ Nourishing Flourishing March 12, 2011, 11:54 am

So glad to read that you’re feeling better! Leftover pizza is definitely my favorite leftover — but I prefer it cold and for breakfast. 🙂 LOL to “The British are coming”!

  • AJ @ Flowing to Fifty March 12, 2011, 12:06 pm

Ha! Great comment, Paul Revere! I’m with you on the pizza. Best ever.

  • Katie @ peacebeme March 12, 2011, 12:07 pm

Glad your knee is feeling better! Awesome that some natural remedies are working. 🙂

  • Sam (the neurotic yogini) March 12, 2011, 12:17 pm

That food looks so good! I really should have eaten before my shift… it’s gonna be a long 4 hours. I wish I could be gardening today! I’m totally jealous! 🙂

  • Gabriela @ Une Vie Saine March 12, 2011, 12:23 pm

Wooo for no knee pain!! Glad you’re taking it easy. I was supposed to run both the halves you’re doing but had to back out bc of knee problems. I want to be active my whole life, not be sidelined in ten years because I pushed it in my twenties. Good luck with the rest of training!

  • jen @ taste life March 12, 2011, 12:31 pm

    Enjoy your sister-in-law!

  • Freya March 12, 2011, 12:32 pm

Hooray for a fixed knee! *fingers crossed*
Darn the husband’s sister is so lucky…maybe if I hang at the airport, I can befriend her and come to the USA too :p

  • Sarah @ The Strength of Faith March 12, 2011, 12:32 pm

Hahahahaha. I was in a meeting the other day with a brit and having such a hard time concentrating because I was so enamored by her accent.

Maybe the British will do an accent vlog?! 🙂

  • Holly @ Couch Potato Athlete March 12, 2011, 12:36 pm

I’m glad your knee is feeling better — I do that too, I start to feel some pain and I drive myself crasy trying to decide if it is PAIN or nerves + soreness. Rest always helps!

Good luck with the gardening. We are still covered in snow, so we have a few more weeks before even thinking about gardening!

  • Sarena (The Non Dairy Queen) March 12, 2011, 12:36 pm

So beer and pizza do help with knee pain! That’s exciting news about your sister in law! Have a safe trip to and from Atlanta! Have a great afternoon Caitlin!

  • Katy (The Singing Runner) March 12, 2011, 12:38 pm

Glad your knee is feeling better! You are definitely a LOT smarter than me! I had to drop out of two half marathons due to my leg. Ugh! If I had just rested it a week or two instead of running through the pain, i probably would have been able to at least run two of them! Oh well! You live and you learn!

  • Stacey March 12, 2011, 12:43 pm

Glad your knee is feeling better and it seems smart to scale back the mileage and make sure you will be able to run both races. Have fun cleaning!

  • Kathleen @ KatsHealthCorner March 12, 2011, 12:52 pm

Hehe, you crack me up! 😉

    Your pizza looks divine! 😀

    xoxo

I am so glad your knee feels better! I had IT band trouble while training for 1st 1/2 marathon and know how frustrating it can be. Hurray to healing!

You made me laugh with your “The British are coming” comment 🙂

  • Ashley @ Feeding Ashley March 12, 2011, 1:12 pm

Haha that so exciting. I cracked up at “the british are coming” goo luck with the cleaning!

  • Baking 'n' Books March 12, 2011, 1:26 pm

So you are still kind of working on a Saturday?;)

    Happy news about the knee!

  • Kristina March 12, 2011, 1:39 pm

So glad your’e feeling better-knee pain stinks! I had to jump off the treadmill (can’t run outside-damn hail pellets coming at me!) after 4 miles bc of my knee, yuck.

    Have a great weekend!

  • Tami March 12, 2011, 3:08 pm

living in new england you see the hoyts (I was just reading your twitter) all the time at races. my 2nd sprint tri they were there and watching them get in the water nearly made me cry, then i past them on the bike and it was unreal. dick hoyt is getting up there in age and i hope they can come to terms that they won’t be able to do these super long tri’s and marathons much longer.

  • Emma (Namaste Everyday) March 12, 2011, 3:09 pm

    Enjoy mulching 🙂

  • Carol March 12, 2011, 4:41 pm

So glad to read your knee is feeling better. Also I love your attitude toward the whole situation…better to rest and be able to run at all. Hope you have a great rest of the weekend!

  • Kris @ tryingtotri March 12, 2011, 5:27 pm

All your outdoor photos make me so jealous – we still have 4 feet of snow outside, and had a blizzard last night! Good luck with the gardening, and I’m glad your knee feels better.

  • Mary March 12, 2011, 5:34 pm

I like your attitude about your half marys coming up 🙂 it really is better to run two quality races minding your body than it is to go balls to the wall to PR and hurt yourself.

  • maria @ Chasing the Now March 12, 2011, 6:21 pm

Glad to hear about your knee. I’m still battling through some iliopsoas tendinitis and I know what you mean. Every tweak feels like the end of the world.

  • Shallin March 12, 2011, 7:38 pm

  • Clare @ Fitting It All In March 12, 2011, 8:40 pm

I had a calf injury last week and FREAKED because i thought I was going to have to drop out of my upcoming marathon. You’re right though – usually rest is all it needs. It’s fine now!

  • chelsea March 12, 2011, 9:04 pm

I love a good spring cleaning! Also, your leftover pizza changed my menu plans for dinner….um, pizza always seems to rock my socks 🙂

  • lauren March 12, 2011, 9:39 pm

Hm, I should be mulching too! You other bloggers are always making me feel guilty, haha!

  • LauraJayne March 12, 2011, 10:18 pm

If you haven’t before, you HAVE to go to Cafe Sunflower when you are in Atlanta! It is my all-time favorite place to eat! Everytime I go to Atlanta I eat there at least twice!

  • Anne @ Office Cleaning London March 22, 2011, 12:17 pm

I thought I was the only one….left over pizzas will do me anytime!
