Mashed potatoes, baby carrots, and a packet of veggie burgers?!  FOR FREE?  Um, yes please.

And dessert involved some hard work in the kitchen (okay, I just had to let the food processor whirl forever).  I made Oh She Glow’s Detox Blonde Macaroons, which were AMAZING and I highly suggest you make them right now.

I ate four while drinking some peppermint tea.  So delicious.

Let’s see –

Lunch was brown rice and stir-fried cabbage, parsnips, broccoli, and tofu in BBQ sauce.

After digesting, the Husband and I went on that long run.  He biked alongside me while I did 5.5 miles, bringing my weekly total up to 23.5 miles

It was HOT!  In fact, it was 81 degrees!

IMG_0430

I haven’t run 23.5 miles in a single week since… the week of October 25, actually (oh, one of the many reasons why I love being meticulous about tracking my workouts – I can pull up random facts like that!).

I’m going to max out at 25 or 26 miles in the next few weeks in preparation for my Half Marathon – I know other people run more but I’ve found that I just can’t do it.  It exhausts me to go over 30, and all the training starts to have a negative impact rather than a positive one.  One of the many reasons that I prefer 13.1 miles over the full marathon!

Alright kids… HGTV is calling my name.

A really fun FAQ post coming tomorrow!

I love when Ben rides on the bike with me while I run! It’s like a running partner partner 🙂

  • Liz February 27, 2011, 8:07 pm

Hey Caitlin! Just wanted to say that I appreciate and admire how you know your limits with your running! That’s great and a real testament to how everyone needs to listen to their own bodies. I love to see more women thinking that way instead of just pushing for the numbers.

    • alli February 27, 2011, 9:32 pm

      my thoughts *exactly*!

    • Caitlin February 28, 2011, 9:26 am

      Thanks girls!

  • jen @ taste life February 27, 2011, 8:07 pm

Which of the Earth Fare burgers did you guys get? We got a box of each (I hope you guys got two coupons, too!) and I wasn’t crazy about the almond grain one. Still haven’t had the mushroom one.

    • Caitlin February 28, 2011, 9:28 am

We got the almond grain and I was also not a huge fan.

  • chelsey @ clean eating chelsey February 27, 2011, 8:10 pm

81 DEGREEEES?!?! Ugh you just made me so sad. Good job on that long run, and I agree – I wouldn’t turn down free food!!!

  • Holly @ Couch Potato Athlete February 27, 2011, 8:20 pm

    That free dinner sounds great!

I also get exhausted from too much running — rest usually helps me much more. I can’t believe it was 81 degrees though – I can’t stand running in the heat.

  • courtney @ the granola chronicles February 27, 2011, 8:22 pm

I need to try those macaroons! They look delectable!

  • sarah k. @ the pajama chef February 27, 2011, 8:29 pm

wow! i wish we had an earth fare. that’s a great deal 🙂

  • Lee February 27, 2011, 8:29 pm

I am the same way with my mileage. Any more than about 25 and I get totally burned out.

  • Maryann (The Balanced Bean) February 27, 2011, 8:31 pm

Totally want to make those macaroons!! I wish we had earth fare in California 🙁

  • Alex @ Healing Beauty February 27, 2011, 8:33 pm

Congrats on the mileage! Have a great Sunday evening!

  • Angela @ Eat Spin Run Repeat February 27, 2011, 8:38 pm

SCORE for the free dinner! And awesome job on the mileage – sounds like you’re more than ready for your race! 🙂

  • Maryea @ Happy Healthy Mama February 27, 2011, 8:52 pm

    Wow 81 degrees? It’s February!!

  • Katy (The Singing Runner) February 27, 2011, 8:55 pm

I love how you know what mileage is good for you and when to max out. I’ve definitely learned my limits when training and have faced numerous injuries. I only logged 3 miles total last week, verses 25.6 (I track like you do too!) a month ago. Working my way back from this injury, slowly but surely!

  • Amanda (Eating Up) February 27, 2011, 8:58 pm

    Wow! That’s a great deal!

  • christine February 27, 2011, 9:03 pm

Your under 30 stat makes me feel better!

  • valerie @ lots of dishes February 27, 2011, 9:04 pm

I love drinking/eating anything out of a mason jar. And I’m wishing there was a EarthFare around here to sign up for a newsletter!

  • Christina February 27, 2011, 9:06 pm

Since you’re discussing mileage (and rightly listening to your body), if you ever ran another marathon have you considered the Hanson Brothers marathon training program? It maxes out with the longest run of 16miles. Maybe something to consider? There was a great article about the program in Runners World : http://www.runnersworld.com/article/0,7120,s6-238-244-255-13791-0,00.html

    • Caitlin February 28, 2011, 9:30 am

I saw that! I seriously do NOT know if I could do a marathon with maxing out at 16. The last 6 miles of a marathon are so miserable to me. I don’t think I could do it without a 20 miler. Have you tried the Hanson plan?

      • Christina March 1, 2011, 10:36 am

I haven’t tried it personally but a friend of mine, who has done numerous marathons, is currently doing it. I’ll let you know how it goes!

  • Carly February 27, 2011, 9:10 pm

  • Camille February 27, 2011, 9:12 pm

What a deal! Enjoy your free dinner!

  • Maren February 27, 2011, 9:16 pm

I am soooo envious of 81 degree weather….. I’m freezing my tush off!!

  • Kacy February 27, 2011, 9:33 pm

It was hot during my run today too. I couldn’t do it! I’m a wuss!

I haven’t been anywhere close to 25 this whole season. I run less, cross train more and it’s much easier on my body. At least I like to think so!

  • Allison @ Happy Tales February 27, 2011, 9:35 pm

Love that you listen to your body and don’t push yourself when you know it’ll be detrimental… you are such a great role model! PS… yay for that EarthFare deal, we got it too!

  • Baking 'n' Books February 27, 2011, 9:42 pm

    FAQ?!

Score on the free food! It’s like take-out 🙂 Not watching the Oscars? 🙂

  • Caitlyn (A Spoonful of Life) February 27, 2011, 9:44 pm

    That smoothies sounds GOOD!

  • maria @ Chasing the Now February 27, 2011, 9:48 pm

Way to go on the run and the free dinner. Wahooo!

  • Kierstan @ Life {and running} in Iowa February 27, 2011, 9:48 pm

I just made those coconut macaroons today as well! I don’t know why the original poster shared the recipe…she could have made millions selling them! I was omg-ing for minutes after I forced myself to QUIT eating them!!

  • Kate (What Kate is Cooking) February 27, 2011, 9:54 pm

    I think that’s a good weekly mileage. That’s why I prefer training for a half too 🙂

  • Averie (LoveVeggiesAndYoga) February 27, 2011, 9:55 pm

the brown rice and stir-fried cabbage, parsnips, broccoli, and tofu in BBQ sauce = soooo tasty looking!

  • Deva (Voracious Vorilee) February 27, 2011, 9:59 pm

I love that you can track your workouts like that. I used to be meticulous like that and miss having those numbers readily available! I need to start tracking -esp with my weight lifting!

  • Laura H. February 27, 2011, 10:07 pm

Nice to see a runner that doesn’t push herself until she gets injured. That always seems to work for me, too. The trick is to stick to what your body knows – even though that can be hard sometimes!

    • Caitlin February 28, 2011, 9:31 am

Yea, it’s hard to figure out your limits (plus, they are constantly changing!). But listening to your body is always a good idea!

  • Paige @Running Around Normal February 27, 2011, 10:10 pm

Wow, that is a pretty awesome deal!
Hey, you run more than I do and I’m training for a half too.

  • Julie (A Case of the Runs) February 27, 2011, 10:21 pm

FREE veggie dinner?! Those are my favorites!

    Gotta try those macaroons!

I’m keeping my mileage pretty low for marathon training, too. I always try to remember that running is but a hobby and shouldn’t tar my sanity or my life.

  • Annette @ EnjoyYourHealthyLife February 27, 2011, 10:22 pm

That is a great idea to stay around or below 30 miles/week- you don’t want to ruin a good thing. Ps.. those macaroons look divine 🙂

  • Michelle February 27, 2011, 10:30 pm

I hope you actually talk about how long Maggie’s legs are! 🙂

    • Caitlin February 28, 2011, 9:33 am

Hahaha they are 3.5 inches long.

  • Kristina February 27, 2011, 11:04 pm

  • Jess@atasteofconfidence February 27, 2011, 11:11 pm

wow it sure is toasty there!

  • Kira February 27, 2011, 11:43 pm

it was such a gorgeous day out today! I can’t believe 81 where you are though. wow! only 50 here 🙁

  • Marina February 28, 2011, 12:57 am

I wish it was so hot here 🙁
Your meals today look really delicious, and I think it’s awesome that you good that free dinner 🙂

  • Sarah February 28, 2011, 5:12 am

Sort of random, but your brown rice always looks so light and fluffy…how do you prepare it? (Mine always comes out chewy and heavy)

    • Caitlin February 28, 2011, 9:34 am

I fill the pot with water, boil until it becomes light and fluffy, and then I drain the water and put it back over heat to remove any extra water. I find that when I try to follow the water measurements, it always ends up sticky and heavy!

      • Sarah February 28, 2011, 12:33 pm

        Great, thanks!
(So awesome that you respond to comments – and so quickly too!)

  • Erika @ FoodFitnessFun February 28, 2011, 7:24 am

Congrats on the full week of running! I think it is SO neat that you keep track of your milage/runs/workouts – I might start doing that! 😀

  • Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin February 28, 2011, 7:43 am

Free food?! What a great deal! I wish I could score that through my grocery store!

  • Kara February 28, 2011, 8:35 am

I have grand plans of training the baby from a young age to ride her bike next to me while I run so she grows up thinking that it’s normal to carry Mommy’s water and Gu.

    • Caitlin February 28, 2011, 9:35 am

      hahah YES.

  • Stacie February 28, 2011, 8:38 am

I was at Earthfare yesterday and they had a flyer advertising the free meal. Guess who just signed up for their newsletter?

  • Amber K February 28, 2011, 12:33 pm

What an awesome coupon! Man, I wish it was that warm here. Okay, not really. But it would get above freezing that’d be awesome. Especially since our heater is broken.
