Have I mentioned the Husband has been on an alcohol detox for the last three weeks?

I, however, am not on any sort of cr-azy alcohol detox and enjoyed a big pint of Sweetwater 420 after a busy, busy day.

Hollar for the side braid!

After writing all day, volunteering with Girls on the Run, and seeing a sick child at the clinic in the evening, we were more than willing to go out to eat.  Sometimes, it’s just worth it to dine out (I seem to be saying that more and more).

A lovely salad with:

  • Napa cabbage
  • Carrots
  • Onions
  • Corn
  • Cucumbers
  • Feta
  • Blueberries
  • Pecans
  • Balsamic
  • And a big black bean burger

Yes… two veggie burgers, one day.

Tomorrow is official declared ‘Eat In Day.’  I need some home cookin’!

Now you have me craving a beer! I’m still getting over a cold, so I’ll have to do without. Enjoy your evening!

  • Erin (Travel, Eat, Repeat) February 8, 2011, 8:34 pm

Tonight was one of the first nights in a while I’ve been home for dinner and it’s amazing how great a home-cooked meal tastes, even something totally simple.

  • Kelly February 8, 2011, 8:35 pm

Three weeks?! That’s impressive, I could never. I do however now want a nice drink, but I’ll refrain until at least tomorrow.

  • Jessica @ The Virtual Scrapbook February 8, 2011, 8:35 pm

Haha, I need an eat in day too…I love going out to eat. That salad looks sooooo tasty too! Nothing like the salads I make!

  • Holly @ Couch Potato Athlete February 8, 2011, 8:36 pm

I just love that salad you show — it looks delicious.

Why was your hubby on an alcohol detox? (Sorry if this is too personal, I’m just curious!)

    • Caitlin February 8, 2011, 8:38 pm

He was also doing a gallbladder cleanse – more info is on yuppieyogini.com!

  • Baking 'n' Books February 8, 2011, 8:36 pm

That bar place looks so cozy. Why the detox?

  • Katie @ peacebeme February 8, 2011, 8:37 pm

I agree its sometimes worth it just to eat out, but after too much of that, I just crave eating at home. Another example of your body telling you what it needs I guess. 😉

  • Gabriela @ Une Vie Saine February 8, 2011, 8:37 pm

I’m the weirdest girl because while I could give up wine in a heartbeat, I love beer way to much to ever go long without it. Good choice 🙂

  • Evan Thomas February 8, 2011, 8:38 pm

Awww he looks like a puppy staring at a bone being trained to sit. Can’t he have a sip?

    • Caitlin February 8, 2011, 8:39 pm

He did 😉 But don’t tell! Shh.

  • Megan February 8, 2011, 8:38 pm

hey, I remember a few weeks ago, you posted about books to read. I wanted to share that I write about the books I read on my blog and I just reviewed a few more. You might check it out 🙂

    • Caitlin February 8, 2011, 8:39 pm

      Ooo coming over now!

  • hippierunner February 8, 2011, 8:39 pm

Aww you were teasing your poor hubby!

  • Mary (What's Cookin' with Mary) February 8, 2011, 8:41 pm

Yummy looking salad! I know what you mean about when you eat a few meals in a row that aren’t homemade… My MIL and I joke that we just ‘love our food’ and prefer staying in whenever possible. I guess we like to toot toot our own horns ;P

    • JenATX February 8, 2011, 11:19 pm

haha my MIL is the opposite.. whenever the kids come to visit its out to eat every night. My body cant take it!

And the hubby cracks me up in those photos! I went for drinks with some friends last night & asked them to just pour me half a beer from the pitcher since I was trying to give my body a rest after the weekend.. the guy pouring it said “ok, but that’s just a waste of beer!” 🙁 i strongly disagree, sometimes a few sips is just enough

  • Gina February 8, 2011, 8:42 pm

Looks like you were enjoying Big Daddy’s–I LOVE their salads (and I must confess, the beer too!).

  • Charlie February 8, 2011, 8:44 pm

    That salad looks amazing!!!

  • Katy (The Singing Runner) February 8, 2011, 8:45 pm

That black bean burger looks amazing!

Awww your hubby looks so forlorn in the first picture. 🙁

  • Kiran February 8, 2011, 8:50 pm

Yummy! The salad looks so delish!

  • Tricia February 8, 2011, 8:58 pm

hollar for the side braid!!!! I rocked one last week. I meant to take a pick too

  • Sarena (The Non Dairy Queen) February 8, 2011, 8:58 pm

Dang that salad looks good! Totally work the two bean burger day! Besides, they are good! Have a great night Caitlin!

  • Zo February 8, 2011, 9:05 pm

You definitely deserve a drink and a break from food preparation. I’ve had those “same meal twice” days. And I’ll often go in to the second meal saying “whatever, I do, I’m not getting the same thing twice!” But if that’s what you want, why not?

  • Kim @ Kim Lives Healthy February 8, 2011, 9:06 pm

Cute side braid! You two make Charlotte look a lot more fun than I remember it being 😛

  • Marie-JourneytoBodyZen February 8, 2011, 9:07 pm

That beer looks good! I miss Sweetwater and Terrapin but am enjoying some great New England beers like Longtrail and Harpoon 🙂

  • Lizzy February 8, 2011, 9:07 pm

every time you have this salad i always say to myself that it looks amazing! plus that bean burger looks sooooo good!

  • Ali G February 8, 2011, 9:09 pm

I’m looking for a good black bean burger recipe, that looks so good!! Do you or anyone on here have a good one to share?

  • Amanda (Eating Up) February 8, 2011, 9:12 pm

    I love that photo montage.

    • Ellie@fitforthesoul February 9, 2011, 2:32 am

Haha I know huh! I’m wondering if the Husband actually posed for it! 😛 It’s so perfect and appropriate.

  • Carin February 8, 2011, 9:19 pm

If he’s really bored whilst etoxing, perhaps the Hubby could do his accent vlog? REALLY interested to hear the accent (especially now we know that it’s such a hit with the GOTR!).

  • Kristina February 8, 2011, 9:20 pm

Love you chuggin that beer, haha! That salad always looks so delish-love the big fatty on top!

  • Parita@myinnershakti February 8, 2011, 9:20 pm

You are totally rockin’ the side braid! I was actually thinking about braiding my hair today too!

And every time I see a picture of that salad posted, it makes me want to make a special trip to Charlotte!!! Yum!

  • Ali @ Ali Runs February 8, 2011, 9:24 pm

My mom loves Sweet Water 420! Whenever we go down south she makes sure to bring some back with her.

  • Lindsey February 8, 2011, 9:42 pm

Those black bean burgers always look sooo good!

  • Emily February 8, 2011, 9:44 pm

Go girl, rockin the side braid and frosty beverage 🙂

  • Sana February 8, 2011, 9:44 pm

Eating out can be healthy!!! Nothing wrong with it, but a home cooked meal does the body gooood!

  • Alex @ Healing Beauty February 8, 2011, 9:46 pm

For eat in day you should try my homemade blueberry salad dressing recipe: take about 1/2 cup to 3/4 cup blueberries (depending on the amount of dressing you want to make), add a splash of evoo, some fresh squeezed lemon juice and agave nectar to taste. If you like blueberries, it’s delicious

  • Lacey @ Lake Life February 8, 2011, 9:53 pm

    Holla!!!!!

I think I read somewhere that February has been dubbed “Sober February.” Of course it would be the shortest month of the year. Looks like your hub got a head start.

  • Jen @ keepitsimplefoods February 8, 2011, 9:53 pm

Yummy salad! Alcohol detox? No thanks! haha.

  • Alexia @ Dimple Snatcher February 8, 2011, 10:27 pm

HOLLA!!!! hahahahah. don’t feel too bad. i love eating out :))))

  • Maren February 8, 2011, 10:30 pm

I’m totally the same way!! I eat out waaaaay too much. I enjoyed some sushi tonight with the girlfriends!

  • Ellie @ The Mommyist February 8, 2011, 10:47 pm

You inspired me to open a beer!

  • Allison @ Happy Tales February 8, 2011, 10:48 pm

Big Daddy’s outings are always okay. Always. Those make-your-own salads are just too good to pass up!

  • Leah @ Why Deprive? February 8, 2011, 11:11 pm

haha I love the pictures of your husband with the beer! Alcohol detox would be no fun at all.

  • Julie (A Case of the Runs) February 8, 2011, 11:18 pm

I guess you can say I’m on that same detox. I quit drinking of pretty much all kind starting Jan 1 because of my March 20 marathon. Not sure if alcohol affects training at all, but I figured it couldn’t hurt. Now people won’t invite me to happy hour, even though I said there’d be options for me. Blah.

  • Runeatrepeat February 8, 2011, 11:29 pm

I really love how you do your own thing with eats no matter what your other half does 🙂 It’s so easy to be influenced by someone so close that lives with us!

  • Amanda February 8, 2011, 11:56 pm

You have been eating out a lot….. but you’re also super busy! When things calm down you’ll be back in the kitchen.

  • Camille February 9, 2011, 12:10 am

Haha, poor hubs! I love the sequence of shots of him. Hilarious!

  • Kate (What Kate is Cooking) February 9, 2011, 12:20 am

I love the side braid! I don’t think my hair is quite long enough, but it’s getting there 🙂

  • Alicia February 9, 2011, 3:51 am

Hey Caitlin! It’s the first time I’m commenting, but I’ve been reading you for years already and LOVE your blog. But girl, if you really want to commit to a budget you need to stop eating out! If you’re busy cook in bulk! or buy frozen veggies! or something! Even if you’re busy and/or stressed…

  • Katie (Sweet Tater) February 9, 2011, 6:17 am

haha, poor guy. those pictures of him coveting the beer are hilarious.

  • chelsey @ clean eating chelsey February 9, 2011, 7:26 am

I thought I saw a tweet about that detox a few days ago – what else are they doing for it?

  • Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin February 9, 2011, 7:45 am

Haha how much longer does he have to go? He doesn’t look like he’s going to last much longer! 😛

  • Allie February 9, 2011, 8:05 am

    Mmmm veggie burger!!!

  • Amanda February 9, 2011, 8:06 am

Wow, that is one yummy looking salad.

I have been thinking about volunteering with Girls on the Run in NYC. What exactly do you do? Are you coach? Which is what I would really like to do since I used to be a swim coach. Any resources on it would be great.

I just found your blog very recently, so if you talked about this before I might have missed it.

  • Kara February 9, 2011, 8:18 am

If the baby didn’t go to bed at 6:45 on the dot every night, we’d totally go out to eat all the time.

I’m jealous of your rocking side braid 🙂

  • Laura February 9, 2011, 8:19 am

On your “Eat in Day” note at the end– on a personal finance blog I recently read about people/couples having “no spend” days once or twice a week (like “no spend Tuesday”… not randomly picking different days each week). Maybe it could be helpful in your quest to save for a house and a bambino? Just an idea!

    • Caitlin February 9, 2011, 9:08 am

      1) Love the phrase bambino

      2) No spend days sound… hard.

  • Maddie (Healthy Maddie) February 9, 2011, 8:24 am

I want that salad and veggie burger!

  • LindseyAnn February 9, 2011, 8:48 am

Good for him! I’m on a no-alcohol detail, too, but mine is for training reasons and not a detox. I have a feeling I’m going to be making the same set of faces this weekend when we return to Michigan and my favorite brewery. Stay strong, HolisticDoc!

  • Lizzy @ runbakerace February 9, 2011, 8:56 am

Sometimes if I eat out too much it makes me insides feel like garbage, but your salad looks so fresh and good 🙂 Hubby is awesome to be doing an alcohol detox, I commend him

  • ashleigh February 9, 2011, 9:18 am

So sometimes I want to lay off the alcohol for a month, but I can never commit, I mean it’s already Feb, March is my birthday, there are reasons to drink in April, I like to think of May-Sept as summer drinking months… the list goes on.
Also, I think if your eating reasonably priced healthy foods out, why not? It’s better than having food in the fridge that goes bad!

  • Lauren @ Neeps and Taters February 9, 2011, 11:34 am

That salad and veggie burger look HUUUUGE. Yum!! You have got me craving a big salad now!

I work at a bar, so sometimes after I am finished work I have to resist the urge to have a nice big beer (or 3). So good for him!

  • Kirsten February 9, 2011, 11:55 am

In case you need ideas, my husband and I both work long hours and we love our slow cooker! We make tons of veggie soups, lentil soups, ect. We cut everything the night before, throw it in the pot before work, and have dinner when we walk in the door. It’s definitely worth a try!

  • Ashley @ Thefitacademic February 9, 2011, 12:07 pm

this salad looks AMAZING! Yum! Worth every penny!

  • Heather February 9, 2011, 12:15 pm

those people in the background of the photos of K ….

I was just looking at them
    and thinking
that i really hope they are on their first date
[because what single person isn’t trying to find a date the week before valentine’s day in order to lock down the possible valentine’s date – seriously]
    and that it went splendidly
and that they go on a second date
    and then a third
and eventually, i hope they go “steady”
    and he will like it
and will put a ring on it
and then they will get married
    and live happily ever after
    and SOMEWHERE
    along the way
they will come across these photos
    on your blog
    of their first date.
    perfection, right?

[they are probably brother and sister or something.]

    • Heather February 9, 2011, 12:16 pm

P.S. Their wedding shall be in the fall, and she will wear a flower in her hair.

      • Caitlin February 9, 2011, 12:43 pm

She was pregnant with a baby so maybe they will be having a little kiddie soon!

        • Heather February 9, 2011, 1:17 pm

i hope that the name of the place you were eating is called McGuilicuddy’s.
and that they have a girl.
and that they name said baby “McGuili” to pay homage.

Also – I love that you say “She was pregnant WITH A BABY”….just incase i was confused and thought she may be pregant with someone else. haha. love.

        • Heather February 9, 2011, 1:17 pm

and by SOMEONE i clearly mean SOMETHING.

  • Katie @ The Content Life February 9, 2011, 12:47 pm

I LOVE BLACK BEAN BURGER! That whole thing just looks incredibly delious and is giving me some inspiration for dinner tonight 🙂
