The Final Countdown

Catching up on the weekend?

I am officially entering the final countdown for the first draft of the Operation Beautiful 2 book.2011-01-31_0854

Only 15 days left of writing.  15 days sounds like a lot, but trust me – it’s really not. 😉 I know the next two weeks will slip away so quickly, and suddenly, I’ll be e-mailing the draft to my editor.  Finishing my first book was a rollercoaster of emotions because I wasn’t sure of what I was doing or what the publisher was really expecting, but I feel much more confident this time.  Now… all I have to do is write!  Getting done BEFORE deadline wouldn’t be so bad, either.

Breakfast was quick and easy – leftovers from last night’s dinner, in fact!

I ate one of the spinach, cheese, and mushroom crepes from dinner + added an over-easy egg.  Perfect combo!

With half an apple for crunch.

Race Recaps

Anyone run a race this weekend?  I am so jealous! 🙂 My in-real-life friends Megan, Meghann, and Kelly ran the Miami Half Marathon yesterday.  I loved reading the recaps because it made me homesick for my hometown… which pretty much never happens, ever.

I am getting excited for my upcoming races… I’ve got a half marathon in March, April, and May.  Wish I had something planned sooner, though!

I was jealous of all the Miami runners too. It looked like such a perfect day and an awesome course. But I’m running a half in March, too, so it’s fun to have that to look forward to.

    Happy writing today!

  • Beth @ Beth's Journey to Thin January 31, 2011, 9:15 am

I’m running that half in March too, and trying to find a few races to run in the interim so it’s not the first race I run in 2011!

  • Eliz@The Sweet Life January 31, 2011, 9:19 am

Good luck–you’re in the home stretch! Loved your accent post. “It’s car-a-mel–not car-mel!” 🙂

    • Caitlin January 31, 2011, 9:29 pm

Did you do an accent post yet?

  • Camille January 31, 2011, 9:20 am

I totally get race envy too 🙂 The week after my marathon was the SF Nike Women’s Marathon and I was so incredibly jealous of everyone running it. Of course, this was completely silly since I was injured and could barely walk, but I really contemplated driving to SF to run the dang race. lol

  • Amalfi Girl (EatRunHaveFun.blogspot) January 31, 2011, 9:21 am

I took the train to NYC this weekend, and on the way in I saw graffiti that said:

    YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL!

And I couldn’t get my camera out fast enough to get a shot of it. I thought, Caitlin would LOVE this!

    • Caitlin January 31, 2011, 9:30 pm

Oh I love it – I wonder if it was you-are-beautiful.com! They promote positive graffiti!

  • Stacy @ Every Little Thing January 31, 2011, 9:22 am

Good luck with the final 15! 🙂 You’ll get those words out in no time, I’m sure of it.

  • Ann @ Day by Day January 31, 2011, 9:27 am

Spinach, cheese and mushroom sound like three things that are meant to go together. Leftovers are the best! That’s so great that you’re so close to finishing. I’m so impressed- Book #2 is almost ready! I loved reading all the race recaps too. I’m trying to read them for advice mainly for my first half marathon coming up in March.

  • jen @ taste life January 31, 2011, 9:29 am

Those crepes look so good! I drooled over them in last night’s post AND this morning’s post!

No races coming up, but going on vaca to Florida in two and a half weeks! CANNOT WAIT.

    • Caitlin January 31, 2011, 9:32 pm

I am jealous of your upcoming vacation! It’s going to be awesome!

  • Samantha @ Health, Happiness & Skinny Jeans January 31, 2011, 9:30 am

That crepe looks really yummy. It kind of looks like the spinach, egg and feta wrap from Starbucks which is absolutely to die for!

  • Marina January 31, 2011, 9:37 am

Crepes look amazing, I had something similar for lunch, without the spinach 🙂 Really delicious.
Good luck on your last 15 days of writing!

  • Alex @ Healing Beauty January 31, 2011, 9:39 am

Good luck with finishing the draft!

  • Shell January 31, 2011, 9:40 am

I loved your accent video it was so quite! I would love to hear ther hubs accent, hopefully you can get him to do one:)

    • Caitlin January 31, 2011, 9:34 pm

I’m trying to talk him into it!

  • Emily January 31, 2011, 9:43 am

I’m also getting excited about my upcoming races and reading everyone’s recaps from the weekend is definitely not helping! I loved the accent video- can’t wait for your husbands! Good luck on the final countdown!

  • Jennifer (keepitsimplefoods) January 31, 2011, 9:49 am

Good luck in the final days of editing! It seems like you really could edit forever, but at some point you have to find satisfaction with what you’ve done, send it off and let it go.

  • Sarena (The Non Dairy Queen) January 31, 2011, 9:50 am

No, 15 days is not a lot of time when you are finishing up a huge project. I get overwhelmed when I know the end is coming! I am sure you will get it done. I hope you have a great day and good luck getting through your to do list today!

  • Tina @ Faith Fitness Fun January 31, 2011, 9:52 am

I’m sure you will finish it up just fine! Although 2 weeks does pass too fast, I know.

  • Kathie @ Frugal Fit and Fabulous January 31, 2011, 9:54 am

yayayaya you’re at the homestretch now..good luck!

  • Ashley January 31, 2011, 9:57 am

Good luck! I’m sure the book is fantastic.

  • Red Head, Yellow Dog January 31, 2011, 9:59 am

good luck on the rest of your book!! you’re going to rock it 🙂

and I totally know what you mean about Miami..people always ask me if I’m going to go back there when I’m done with law school and the answer is a definite NO! NC is the place to be 🙂

    • Caitlin January 31, 2011, 9:35 pm

Ugh Miami is the WORST. Hahah, truly!

But I do miss the beach.

      • Red Head, Yellow Dog February 1, 2011, 10:24 am

me too! NC beaches just aren’t the same. and the Cuban food and coffee..can’t find that up here! But I’ll just get my fix for those through short visits 🙂

  • Anna @ Newlywed, Newly Veg January 31, 2011, 10:01 am

Now I’m going to have that song stuck in my head for the rest of the day 🙂

    Good luck in the homestretch!

  • Kelly January 31, 2011, 10:02 am

It’s too cold for races around here right now! haha. I have a 10 miler in April that I’m excited for though.

  • Allie January 31, 2011, 10:05 am

I ran my first half marathon yesterday! I’ve done a lot of shorter races, but I was SO proud to have done this one finally. I keep working it into all of my conversations (note to self: stop bragging about… after this post….). Seriously, all someone has to do is say something like, “Oh what a cute dog” and I’ll be like, “Yeah that dog is cute. I saw lots of cute dogs when I was RUNNING A HALF MARATHON this morning.” Hahahaha

    • Caitlin January 31, 2011, 9:36 pm

Yay!!! You can keep bragging to me if you want. Good job!

  • Sarah @ The Strength of Faith January 31, 2011, 10:08 am

Yay! Excited that K is going to do a video. You’re in the final stretch – you can do this! xo

  • Angela @ Eat Spin Run Repeat January 31, 2011, 10:08 am

The weather looked perfect in Meghann’s race! I can’t believe the deadline for your book is here.. that was fast!! I know it will be just as good as the first though, because you’re awesome!

  • Jess@atasteofconfidence January 31, 2011, 10:16 am

Good luck with the last two weeks!

  • Caitlyn (A Spoonful of Life) January 31, 2011, 10:29 am

I don’t have any races planned right now, unfortunately. I need to sign up for one so I have something to run for (towards?)!

Good luck with your last tow weeks writing! That’s exciting!

  • skinnyrunner January 31, 2011, 10:31 am

i didnt run a race and i completely get race envy. it could be the absolute crappiest race ever and id still want to run it!

    • Caitlin January 31, 2011, 9:37 pm

      me too – i agree 100%!

  • Kiran January 31, 2011, 10:34 am

Good luck with your draft, I know you would rock it! 🙂

  • michelle January 31, 2011, 10:40 am

I also ran the Miami 1/2, and the Tropical 5K the day before- it was our GOTR race. The kids LOVED it! It was perfect Miami running weather. 🙂
    Good Luck with writing!

  • Kara January 31, 2011, 10:46 am

I was bummed to have to back out of a trail half marathon because it had 6 inches of snow and ice on the trail. I was impressed at how many people still ran! I was afraid to get hurt because then I wouldn’t be able to run my 1st fun marathon in March, let alone take care of my baby (can’t carry her upstairs on crutches!). I did my own private half marathon instead 🙂

  • salah@myhealthiestlifestyle January 31, 2011, 10:48 am

    those crepes look soooo amazing!!!

  • Jennifer (Mother of All Students) January 31, 2011, 10:49 am

I was planning on doing a Mardi Gras race at the beginning of March. I had my training plan all ready to go, and then could not find the motivation to actually start using it. I have been on a 6 month hiatus from running, and just don’t feel like I will be prepared. 🙁

However, I AM doing on in May for Mother’s Day. I ran it last year as my very first-ever race! And I did it with my daughter! 🙂 I want to make it a tradition to run it with her every year! Fun!

  • bakingnbooks January 31, 2011, 10:51 am

Do you find you spend a lot of time doing editing and re-writing after the first draft?…is it easier to go through that process though because at least you have the “basis” done?

Sorry – I find it all intriguing and like to dream 😉

    • Caitlin January 31, 2011, 9:38 pm

After my first book, I spent about one week doing editing but it really varies I guess!

  • Katy (The Singing Runner) January 31, 2011, 11:09 am

I get race envy too. We all do, but sounds like you have some races in the future to look forward to!

  • Annette January 31, 2011, 11:55 am

Oooh fun! I love races also 🙂

  • rebecca lustig January 31, 2011, 12:00 pm

the races will creep up on you before you know it!

  • Mary @ Bites and Bliss January 31, 2011, 12:06 pm

Congrats to them running a half! And good luck over the next two weeks getting the draft written. You can do it! 🙂

  • Kathleen @ Kat's Health Corner January 31, 2011, 12:09 pm

Congratulations on your book!!! You are such a great writer! I can’t wait to get my hands on the final copy! 🙂

  • Kari @ Human, MD January 31, 2011, 12:11 pm

Now I have Europe’s “The Final Countdown” stuck in my head! What a song… I love racing too! Unfortunately, there aren’t many races around here until March, and by then I’ll be racing my bike and won’t have as much time to run 🙁

  • Kacy January 31, 2011, 12:21 pm

That race did look fun! I’d love to do one in Miami, it’s one of my favorite cities actually!

Good luck with your writing! So exciting!

  • Melissa @ Be Not Simply Good January 31, 2011, 12:44 pm

I have never done a race in the winter! Well, unless you count November. It’s wintery, but not officially winter.

I’m off to click over to your quiche recipe. I had in mind to make a quiche this week, so why not try a new recipe? 🙂

    • Caitlin January 31, 2011, 9:40 pm

I hope you like it! I really love using cornbread in quiches.

  • Julie (A Case of the Runs) January 31, 2011, 12:52 pm

I also miss racing. I did a full in November and my next planned race is a full in March (and another in May!). My boyfriend is running a half this weekend, and I’m a bit jealous. 😉 I opted out since I’ve done that half 3 times already.

I know what you mean about 15 days of writing not being a lot. I’m currently gunning it trying to finish my dissertation in April.

  • chelsey @ clean eating chelsey January 31, 2011, 1:02 pm

Good luck on the next few weeks! You’ll do great!

  • Sara January 31, 2011, 1:08 pm

My weekends are so packed with weddings etc. I haven’t been able to schedule ANY halfs 🙁 Hoping for an NYC one in may…Keep on writin’!!

Can i ask why a HALF apple? Did you share the rest with your hubby? 😀

    • Caitlin January 31, 2011, 1:33 pm

It was a pretty filling breakfast and I didn’t have room for an entire apple.

  • Liz @ Tip Top Shape January 31, 2011, 1:40 pm

I didn’t run anything this weekend, but I am thinking about signing up for April’s Shamrock Shuffle!! I’m a little nervous because it would be my first, but I might just do it!

  • sirenjess January 31, 2011, 1:56 pm

Good luck on your book. I ran the Houston marathon yesterday. It wasn’t pretty. It was my worst race yet.

  • carlee January 31, 2011, 2:53 pm

    That breakfast looks BOMBBB!
