Another lovely Fall run!

IMG_4480

This time with Nicole.  We did an excellent 5.0 miles and I didn’t have any leg cramping at all.  It was fabulous!  I came home and foam rolled just to be sure.  It hurt, but in a really good way.

Statistics:

  • Distance: 5.0 miles
  • Duration: 51:59
  • Mile 1: 10:47
  • Mile 2: 10:31
  • Mile 3: 10:02
  • Mile 4: 10:35
  • Mile 5: 10:02

Before leaving, I had buttahed toast.

And then Nicole back over for a breakfast date.

She brought over oatmeal toppings galore!

It is so nice having new-to-you toppings to use! I am traveling for work and got to go to a salad bar yesterday that had the best toppings that I am not used to, and it was awesome. I love using pomegranate seeds and pumpkin granola on my oats.

  • Sarah @ Sarah's Shaping Up November 19, 2010, 10:18 am

I’ll take any kind of chocolate on my oatmeal. 🙂 And of course peanut butter. 😀

  • Holly @ couchpotatoathlete November 19, 2010, 10:20 am

Banana — simple, sure, but it makes oatmeal taste so good. Other than that, choc chips 🙂

  • Katy (The Singing Runner) November 19, 2010, 10:21 am

I’m starting to eat more oatmeal and I love warm fruit on top of my oatmeal. It makes my belly happy. 🙂

  • Camille November 19, 2010, 10:22 am

Coconut butter is the best oat topping ever! Too bad it is so darn expensive :/

  • Laura November 19, 2010, 10:22 am

At first I thought the spoonful of sunflower butter was a spoonful of carmel sauce! Mmmm….

    • Laura November 19, 2010, 10:23 am

      …and by carmel I mean caramel. 🙂

      • Caitlin November 19, 2010, 6:06 pm

        Mmm caramel!

  • Gabrielle @ Weightless November 19, 2010, 10:23 am

I’m just getting into oatmeal and just wrote a post about it on my blog. My fave topping is my homemade sunflower butter!

  • Tab - Just Weighing In November 19, 2010, 10:27 am

  • Sarah November 19, 2010, 10:38 am

I added peanut butter M&Ms the other day and it was delicious, ha!

  • Kelly November 19, 2010, 10:40 am

  • Rachel November 19, 2010, 10:45 am

    peanut butter for sure.

  • Jen November 19, 2010, 10:48 am

I like oatmeal a lot! I usually make mine with bananas, cinnamon, and either dried cranberries or blueberries. But I love baked apples and cinnamon when I have extra time in the morning to oven-bake oatmeal rather than microwave it. Yogurt and almonds are always good too.

  • Angela @ Eat Spin Run Repeat November 19, 2010, 10:52 am

I like to roll with the berries too, but occasionally I’ll bake apples with cinnamon and use them instead. Yumm!

  • Tracey @ I'm Not Superhuman November 19, 2010, 11:02 am

    Definitely fresh berries. Or chocolate.

  • grocery goddess jen November 19, 2010, 11:02 am

Favorite toppings: Almond butter and coconut butter!

  • Bronwyn Coyne November 19, 2010, 11:03 am

Classic PB on oats all the way.

  • sarah k @ the pajama chef November 19, 2010, 11:04 am

    pumpkin!

  • Lisa Fine - lisasfoods November 19, 2010, 11:07 am

I go through phases, but no matter what, I like to keep my oatmeal toppings simple. Right now I top mine with sliced banana, (my own) homemade blackberry jam, and cashew butter.

  • Joanna November 19, 2010, 11:20 am

Fall runs are truly one of the greatest things in life 🙂

  • Jenny November 19, 2010, 11:21 am

    Banana or pumpkin butter!

    • Caitlin November 19, 2010, 6:06 pm

      Pumpkin buttah rules.

  • Anna @ Newlywed, Newly Veg November 19, 2010, 11:24 am

Ahhhh, don’t you love running in the fall?!? I’m so sad to see fall ending in our area!

  • Sarena (The Non Dairy Queen) November 19, 2010, 11:32 am

Sweet diced apples with granola. I love the fresh apple with the warm oatmeal and the crunchy granola!

  • Leah @ Why Deprive? November 19, 2010, 11:42 am

I love coconut butter on my oatmeal. I also like to crumble up whatever baked goods I have on hand. Right now Im using blondies. Pretty amazing.

  • Gavi @ GaviGetsGoing! November 19, 2010, 11:44 am

I love topping oatmeal with frozen berries. It sounds odd, but the berries melt and give the oatmeal a wonderful consistency and color. I also douse my oatmeal with copious amounts of cinnamon. Yummy!

  • Jennifer@ knackfornutrition November 19, 2010, 11:45 am

Almond butter! Sticks to your ribs better. 🙂

  • Natalia - a side of simple November 19, 2010, 11:55 am

I just bought some puffins cereal and used it as a yogurt topping, YUM 🙂 Glad you’re doing alright with the runs! Have a great Friday, Caitlin!

  • Rachel November 19, 2010, 11:55 am

Salt. Period. I’m an oatmeal weirdo.

  • kathleen November 19, 2010, 11:57 am

Cinnamon. It’s a requirement on my oats.

  • Rachel @ EatMoreMeatLess November 19, 2010, 11:59 am

    Brown sugar! A must have…

  • Lauren November 19, 2010, 12:05 pm

Blueberries and strawberries from the farmer’s market in the summer…and chocolate!

  • Charlie November 19, 2010, 12:06 pm

My favorite oatmeal toppings are raisins, almonds, brown sugar & berries! I also love to add a little earth balance on top :).

  • Jasmine @ Eat Move Write November 19, 2010, 12:10 pm

Oooooh. Puffins on oatmeal. I don’t know what flavor you had but Peanut Butter Puffins are pretty much like cereal crack. So good.

  • Amber K November 19, 2010, 12:20 pm

    Greek yogurt and cinnamon. LOVE!

  • chelsey @ clean eating chelsey November 19, 2010, 12:25 pm

  • Lizz (leadingthegoodlife) November 19, 2010, 12:45 pm

Totally read “buttahed toast” as “butthead toast”. 🙂

    • Caitlin November 19, 2010, 6:06 pm

ew butthead toast doesn’t sound very good!

  • Alexa @ The Girl In Chucks November 19, 2010, 1:00 pm

Lately I can’t get enough of Trader Joe’s Cranberry Apple Butter on my oatmeal (and everything else).

Otherwise, it’s a tie between Sunflower Seed Butter and Nutella….I love them both this (holds arms out really wide) much! 😀

  • Kelsey @ Snacking Squirrel November 19, 2010, 1:04 pm

you have such wonderfully creative oatmeal toppings!! i cant really think of my favorite, but i think the more the merrier. kinda like a christmas tree- it needs lots of ornaments to make it look and feel really special…therefore oatmeal needs lots of toppings too <3

  • Ericka November 19, 2010, 1:18 pm

Blueberries, toasted pecans, brown sugar, and maple syrup – it’s like blueberry pie for breakfast. 🙂

  • Jessica M November 19, 2010, 1:40 pm

I like maple syrup, cinnamon and sunflower seeds! Yum. I actually ate that for dinner last night!

I should be more creative with my toppings. I am kind of picky about my oatmeal, though. Another topping I love is tahini. mmm.

I love coconut oil and coconut meat, but I kind of cringe when I eat/smell coconut butter. I have the artisana brand. I just don’t like it much. I think maybe because its unsweetened? Or maybe mine is bad? Haha

  • Little Bookworm November 19, 2010, 1:40 pm

Favourite topping – bananas, cocoa powder (cooked in), cinnamon and almond butter. 🙂

  • Lisa November 19, 2010, 1:46 pm

I’m pretty simple with my oatmeal…I just want brown sugar!

  • Tracey November 19, 2010, 2:10 pm

I hate to be boring but my favorite oatmeal topping is Peanut Butter. Simple but, oh so good!

My second choice is equaly as boring, granola.

  • Ellie November 19, 2010, 2:20 pm

So glad you’re feeling better Caitlin! I’ll be praying for your knee to be completely healed~ as for toppings…dang so many I like…fresh berries, sunflower butter, carobs, g.yogurt w/maple syrup or something mixed in. :))

    • Caitlin November 19, 2010, 6:05 pm

      Thanks for the prayers!

  • Maddie November 19, 2010, 2:20 pm

My favorite toppings are peanut butter, Greek yogurt, pumpkin butter, and granola!

  • Ellie November 19, 2010, 2:20 pm

oh and of course, pecans, walnuts, etc. Sorry I can’t choose hah!

  • Jessica @ The Process of Healing November 19, 2010, 2:33 pm

YUM! Barney Butter and real maple syrup are probably my favorite all time toppings. OR a Whole Foods vegan blueberry muffin crumbled on top… it is INCREDIBLE. I’m talking life-changing good.

  • Alison (Ali on the Run) November 19, 2010, 2:49 pm

I love putting cinnamon and chocolate chips in my oatmeal, as well as some raisins and, from time to time, almonds as well. Now I’m craving it and I just had lunch! Yummmm…

  • Joanne November 19, 2010, 2:58 pm

Banana and peanut butter hands down.

  • Lily @ Lily's Health Pad November 19, 2010, 3:29 pm

Coconut, banana, and sunflower seed butter are some of my faves.

  • eatmovelove November 19, 2010, 3:32 pm

I love Puffins as a topper! Is your bread from a bakery – just curious because the slices always look like those loaves artisana-style or something – not from WonderBread 😉

  • Allison November 19, 2010, 3:49 pm

coconut, banana, chocolate chips and walnuts are my favorite toppings!

  • Paige (Running Around Normal) November 19, 2010, 4:14 pm

Currently it’s greek yogurt. I don’t go wild with toppings though. Some PB (although lately I’m sick of it!) and maybe a little Greek yogurt.

  • monicanelsonfitness November 19, 2010, 4:57 pm

    Wow- on the fall picture!

I love the idea of a breakfast picnic!!
My favorite toppings are Peanut Butter Puffins, like you and Peanut Butter and chocoloate chippies.

    🙂

  • Shellie November 19, 2010, 5:11 pm

Caitlin, I love your blog! =) Glad you got to run with no pain!!! I can’t wait to have energy to run again. Favorite oatmeal topping would have to be ALMOND BUTTERRR!! or wait.. any peanut butter too!

    • Caitlin November 19, 2010, 6:05 pm

I hope you feel better soon!

  • Melissa November 19, 2010, 5:29 pm

Two of my favorite oatmeal combos are apples and cinnamon, and honey and peanut butter. One of the great things about oatmeal is that you can dress it up in so many different ways!

    • Caitlin November 19, 2010, 6:04 pm

      Me too! Savory or sweet!

  • Sarah (Running to Slow Things Down) November 19, 2010, 5:35 pm

I’ve been into simple toppings lately. Two big scoops of peanut butter, a sprinkle of coconut and that’s it. I go through my phases, but this is what I always go back to. 😀

  • Dee November 19, 2010, 5:39 pm

    Pumpkin butter!

  • Jazz November 19, 2010, 6:00 pm

Definitly pumpkin, coffee and spices! Pumpkin spice oatmeal latte!

  • Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin November 19, 2010, 7:08 pm

Yay, I’m glad you had a pain-free run!

Favourite oatmeal topping? That’s tough! Well, banana is a given, so other than that I’ll say soy nut butter and blueberries!

  • Jessica November 19, 2010, 9:48 pm

My favorite is chocolate banana pudding! Simply take a super ripe banana and mash it really well, then add a tbsp of unsweetened cocoa powder and stir till smooth. Spoon it ontop of hot oatmeal and I’m in heaven 😉 Oh, and if you really want some chocolate for breakfast add a few cocoa nibs too

  • Melissa November 20, 2010, 9:35 am

Adding peanut butter and banana has turned me from an oatmeal hater to an oatmeal lover!! 🙂
