Deal of the Day

in All Posts

Deal of the day!  Check out Callie’s blog for a Bondi Band fundraiser!  If you need a better headband to hold your hair and catch your sweat during workouts (or hangouts), Bondi Bands can’t be beat!  Funds go to her Aunt’s radiation treatment.

I got the pink and black FIGHT one.  🙂

In other news… a wonderful mid-afternoon snack of toast, almond butter, and banana.  With a drizzle of honey, of course.

IMG_9935

And dinner was a wonderful quinoa salad.  And lookie – I brought my basil plant back to life!  I had to trim off some leaves, but it survived the lack of water for a few days.

In the mix:

  • Quinoa
  • Broccoli
  • Corn
  • Tomato
  • Kidney Beans
  • Salad dressing
  • Basil

Side note: the Husband and I love to order things in bulk (Costco is the best place in the planet – 48 rolls of toilet paper?! Awesome).  So when it came time to order more golf tees, he scored a deal of 500 for $4.95.

Nothing feels quite like a good deal… whether it’s Bondi Bands or golf tees.  🙂

That salad looks fantastic. Guess what I might have tomorrow night for dinner 🙂

  • Janelle August 9, 2010, 9:48 pm

I totally get sucked in by the bulk “good deals.” Nevermind that it may take me several years to work through 5 tubes of toothpaste or two gigantic bottles of mouthwash…
I’ll be entertained to know how long those golf tees last 🙂

  • eatmovelove August 9, 2010, 9:50 pm

Oh my – what kind of bread do you have? I’ve a “Bread-a-vore” and that looks delish.

    • caitlin August 9, 2010, 9:51 pm

some local bakery from trader joes!

  • Estela @ Weekly Bite August 9, 2010, 9:54 pm

I wanna Bondi Band! I’m off to check it out 🙂

  • Bethany @ More Fruit Please August 9, 2010, 9:55 pm

500 golf tees! Hopefully that lasts a while! That quinoa salad looks perfect for summer!

  • Danielle August 9, 2010, 9:55 pm

HAHAHA! I laughed out loud at your husband with the golf tees 🙂

I’m also a sucker for all things in bulk. In fact, my favorite time of the year was the back to school time at Sam’s Club (we didn’t have a Costco) when I was in middle school. A pack of 200+ assorted Bic pens that I’ll never be able to go through but want because of the variety? Yes please! My mom always said she knew I’d be a teacher because of my love for school supplies 🙂

  • Gabriela @ Une Vie Saine August 9, 2010, 9:56 pm

Mmm, I’ve been obsessed with basil recently. It adds so much flavor!! 500 golf tees? Looks like it’ll be awhile before you run out!!

  • Shannon August 9, 2010, 9:57 pm

Hey Caitlyn, I saw an article about operation beautiful in the new glamour!!! Congrats again on the great success of OB!

  • Michelle @ Give Me the Almond Butter August 9, 2010, 10:01 pm

I love Costco too! Its a great place to get loads of snacks for late nights at the architecture studio.

  • Tracey @ I'm Not Superhuman August 9, 2010, 10:02 pm

We’re bulk shoppers, too. So what if I have 12 bottles of dish-washing liquid. I saved $8!

  • Heather (Heather's Dish) August 9, 2010, 10:08 pm

i love costco…we have to be REALLY careful when we go because the bulk just gets to us sometimes!

  • Deva (Voracious Vorilee) August 9, 2010, 10:10 pm

haha! I love buying things in bulk – contact lens solution from sam’s club? Sign. Me. Up. Unfortunately, we don’t have the storage space for 48 rolls of toilet paper *sigh*.

  • Callie August 9, 2010, 10:10 pm

THANK YOU for linking to the BondiBand fundraiser! Your support means so much to me and my Aunt Kathy! Thank you for spreading the word!

  • Wei-Wei August 9, 2010, 10:27 pm

Do you guys play golf often? 500 golf tees are gonna take a while to use up! 😛

haha my oh my that IS a lot of golf tees!!!!

  • Angela (The Lady Loves to Eat) August 9, 2010, 10:31 pm

That’s a lot of golf tees! I don’t think you will ever run out!

  • Jessica (Fit and Clean) August 9, 2010, 10:45 pm

You just reminded me that I need to join Costco. We’ve been talking about it for months, and just haven’t had the chance. I hear they have a great deal on organic blueberries!

  • Chelsey August 9, 2010, 10:48 pm

I agree – I love a good deal. I also love the ridiculously good hummus I buy at Costco. Absolutely nothing compares to it. 32 oz for $5? Heck. Yes.

  • Darcy August 9, 2010, 10:56 pm

Thanks for some quinoa inspiration! I am mildly obsessed with quinoa lately and will take all the ideas I can get. P.S. I have been reading for awhile, but never commented…so…hello 🙂 Thanks for your fab blog and congrats on the book!

  • Michele August 9, 2010, 11:14 pm

Bargains are the best!!!! Thanks for giving the link to Callie’s fundraiser. I got two of them 🙂

    • Caitlin August 10, 2010, 10:24 am

Yay! Thank you for supporting Callie.

  • Marie August 9, 2010, 11:21 pm

Ah the fundraiser is a great idea, how awesome of you to link to it! I got one also, thanks for giving us the info 🙂

  • Amber K August 9, 2010, 11:55 pm

Your food always looks so good!

I chuckled at the golf tees, buying in bulk is sure fun!

  • Candice August 10, 2010, 12:28 am

Yay! So glad you were able to bring your basil back to life!

I must go check out the fundraiser…I love bondi bands. Unfortunately, they fit kind of goofy on my head now that my hair is so short. I discovered them during the expo of my first marathon – bought it that night and wore it during my race the next day and was so thankful I did!

  • janna @ janna's keeping it real August 10, 2010, 12:29 am

500 golf tees, no big deal. not going to lie, i don’t even golf and i thought “hmmm, wonder where?” ;0) i love a good deal!

  • Heather @ Alis Grave Nil August 10, 2010, 12:43 am

I have had to revive our basil several times too. Ours is in the garden, and the puppy keeps getting in there and chewing everything in sight. It seems like it’s pretty resilient–once it got going, it has done beautifully. 🙂

  • Chelsea (Chelsea's Chew and Run Fun) August 10, 2010, 1:00 am

That quinoa salad looks beautiful and delicious! Glad to hear basil plants can come back to life, I just bought one and given my track history with house plants…well, I need all the hope and luck I can get!

  • Jenn August 10, 2010, 1:01 am

Have you ever tried the Master Cleanse? Just curious what your thoughts on it are, if you’re familiar with the premise.

    • Caitlin August 10, 2010, 10:25 am

I’ve heard about it because I would seriously rather shoot myself in the face then survive on liquids for a week. LOL. It sounds miserable! Just have a clean eating week instead and eat real, natural foods and no processed stuff.

  • Sana August 10, 2010, 1:25 am

Hahaha I love bulk deals! I always buy tampons and paper in bulk- I never run out!

  • Jasmine @ Eat Move Write August 10, 2010, 1:32 am

That’s hilarious. Who needs that many golf tees? lol.

  • Katherine @ Left Coast Contessa August 10, 2010, 1:35 am

Yay! I needed a workout headband. So glad I could help out! Also, I always buy TP and paper towels in bulk too.

  • Camille August 10, 2010, 2:06 am

Holy crap, that’s a lot of golf tees!

  • Nancy @ The Wife of a Dairyman August 10, 2010, 2:11 am

Oh My! How long will all those golf tees last?!

  • Freya @ Brit Chick Runs August 10, 2010, 3:18 am

I’m glad the basil came back from the brinke – I think it stole the life from mine, cos my basil is slowly wilting it’s way to plant heaven…

  • Julia @ Brit Bride August 10, 2010, 4:26 am

  • Sarah (this is it) August 10, 2010, 5:47 am

just curious…how much does 48 rolls of TP cost? I buy 4 at a time for like $2.64.

    • Caitlin August 10, 2010, 10:25 am

      I think it was $15.

  • Tina August 10, 2010, 6:20 am

The quinoa salad looks great. I am craving something like that right now after a weekend of traveling for a wedding. My body is screaming “Need more veggies”!

  • Nicole, RD August 10, 2010, 6:53 am

I’ve been wondering what Bondi Bands look like! I love them! You guys are too cute 🙂

  • Sarena (The Non Dairy Queen) August 10, 2010, 7:21 am

Ya gotta love a good bargain! I think quinoa salads have become one of my favorite meals. Just a great combination and the perfect fuel! I hope you have a great day!

  • Julia @ Brit Bride August 10, 2010, 8:24 am

Caitlin! I just watched your today show segment (at work – with sound through my dictaphone no less!) and wanted to say well done! Its so funny to hear your voice in real life (you sounded different in my mind!) but good different. Keep up the good work, you know I read both here and OB everyday.

Headed over there…I’ve been trying different hats, bands, etc. during my long runs and everything so far irritates me and I rip it off. =)

  • Amy August 10, 2010, 9:44 am

  • RhodeyGirl August 10, 2010, 9:45 am

    • Caitlin August 10, 2010, 10:26 am

      balsamic

  • Marina August 10, 2010, 9:47 am

I just came back from Lindt outlet store, and they have the best deals ever 😀 I got so much chocolate, yummy.
I love how your quinoa dish looks like, I bet it was amazing.

  • momsgottheruns August 10, 2010, 9:54 am

I keep hearing about those bondi bands! I tend to get super sweaty during any workout! Do they stay in place well? Have you used them during long runs?

    • Caitlin August 10, 2010, 10:26 am

I wore them during a 15 mile trail run and it didnt move once. And I can’t wear most headbands!

  • Jennifer August 10, 2010, 10:15 am

I take boxing and kickboxing classes and am always a sweaty mess with headbands just not really holding my hair back throughout the whole class. I ordered the Fight Bondi band … it is significant both for the fight against breast cancer and for the “fighting” in my class! Thanx for the heads-up, Caitlin!!!

  • Cassie @ Back to Her Roots August 10, 2010, 10:25 am

You should make some Operation Beautiful Bondi bands! I would totally buy one.

    • Caitlin August 10, 2010, 10:26 am

      GENIUS.

  • Holly @ Self-love and Running August 10, 2010, 10:39 am

I just tried quinoa for the first time last week! Also, banana, peanut butter and honey is the ultimate combination. So good!

I am going to order one of the Bondi Bands (I think the same one as you.) and I am hoping they are as awesome as they seem and really stay put. Oh and I totally agree that there should be OB Bondi Bands!

  • Kelly August 10, 2010, 10:39 am

I’m always looking for headbands that stay put when running. almost got a lululemon one the other day. Nothing stays on my head!

  • Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin August 10, 2010, 11:32 am

I love Costco! I always buy huge bags of almonds and dried fruit when I go there. But they never last me as long as they should! 😛

  • Stacey August 10, 2010, 12:33 pm

You’ve gotta love a deal!! That snack you had looks amazing – yum.

Hooray for bringing the basil plant back to life!

  • Erika August 10, 2010, 12:44 pm

I’m glad your basil plant has been revived. Awesome snackage.

  • Sami August 10, 2010, 1:28 pm
