A New York Minute

in All Posts

Since I have some new readers after The Today Show segment aired, I thought I’d properly introduce myself!  🙂

My name is Caitlin, I’m 26 years old, and this is my personal food and fitness blog.  Healthy Tipping Point’s tag line is “when everyday decisions add up to something amazing” and it’s the embodiment of the Operation Beautiful lifestyle.  I really believe health and happiness is about balance and moderation

I take pictures of what I eat and create healthy recipes to prove that you don’t have to restrict or “diet” and that healthy foods can actually taste good (like French Toast sundae).  I’m not perfect nor would I ever want/claim to be.  I’m just a regular girl!  Oh, and I love to run!  I’m not super fast, but I love to race and have completed 28 races, including shorter distances, a marathon, triathlons, and bike races (here are my recaps).  I’m all about having FUN with food and fitness.  Healthy doesn’t equal boring – trust me!  Here’s a selection of my most informative posts.

I used to work as an urban planner, but now I’m a full-time blogger, freelance writer, and author.  You can read about the transition on this post and this post.

I’m just a small part of a larger healthy living blog community of women and men bloggers.  We are supportive of different choices (healthy means different things to different people!), friendly, and engaging.  If you want to find other bloggers like me, just check out the comments section!  And welcome to my blog!

So… about last night.  🙂

I took a nap around 6 PM and woke up feeling very refreshed.  Which was great because I had a late-night television spot to do for a local Philadelphia show (it was filmed in NYC, I was just beamed in via satellite).

Before leaving, I ordered some room service.

IMG_9761

The dinner menu for room service looked pretty sparse in terms of healthy vegetarian options, so I politely asked the chef to create something for me.  He happily agreed!  He made me a pasta with red sauce and mushrooms.

IMG_9765

And a big green salad.

IMG_9764

I got in a car and headed to the FOX studios.  Unfortunately, my “babysitters” (publicists) weren’t with me so I got a little lost.  :)  I would!

IMG_9768

Eventually I found the studios and navigated my way to the Green Room.  And then I waited and tweeted to keep my mind occupied!

IMG_9766

I went on around 10:45.  After doing The Today Show, I don’t think I’ll ever be nervous to do live television again!

Said thank you to everyone and then I got my boo-tay back to the hotel.  I positively collapsed in bed!

I woke up 7 hours later with my mind SPINNING.  I have so much to do – so many ideas swirling around in my head!  I indulged my workaholic side for a while, and then I ordered more room service (I know, I know… NYC has so much good food, but I’m pressed for time on this trip).

IMG_9769

I ordered oatmeal with fresh fruit.  Not as great as homemade,  but it was a perfect breakfast considering it was hand-delivered to my door.  🙂

IMG_9773

With a little brown sugar:

IMG_9778

I’ve got to run, but I’ll see you for lunch!  I have a meeting and then I’m going back to North Carolina.

In the meantime…

Thanks for sharing my link today. In return, I wanted to share this comment I received from the post from one of my male readers:

“love this idea. I write my wife notes everyday for when she is at work. I’m going to start finding places and ways to leave notes for others though. So simple never thought of it tho.”

    Adorable, right?!

  • Sarah for Real August 6, 2010, 10:30 am

Room service is a favorite of mine, I’m ashamed to say. It can be overwhelming to find good food quickly in a strange place. You did great on that second interview!

Love that note on the scale. I might write one if those myself!

  • Priscilla August 6, 2010, 10:35 am

Hi Caitlin! I have been reading your blog for about a year now, but this is the first time I have commented. I just wanted to say congratulations to you and tell you what a fabulous job you did on the Today show (echoing everyone else)! I love your blog–it’s helped me out of a rut more than once. Just when I need it, you always seem to have a post that makes the world seem a little better. I was so happy for you yesterday, I felt like a real friend had done good…it even made me cry a little. My husband thought I had lost it, but he also thinks Operation Beautiful is a terrific inspiration. Thanks for all you do. Keep it up!

    • Caitlin August 6, 2010, 12:10 pm

thank you so much!! i appreciate it.

  • Camille August 6, 2010, 10:38 am

  • Jasmine @ Eat Move Write August 6, 2010, 10:41 am

I bet you are so tired after all that! I had people over for dinner and the Op Beautiful book was passed around and discussed. EVERYONE loves the idea. 🙂

  • Cynthia (It All Changes) August 6, 2010, 10:41 am

You looked so serene during both interviews. While waiting outside to see you on TODAY I was shaking with nerves for you. So happy to be a small part of your Operation Beautiful experience and support you.

  • Rachel August 6, 2010, 10:42 am

Love your intro! Room service is the best, even with a ton of yummy restaurants around.

  • Mac August 6, 2010, 10:46 am

Enjoy the moment! How long have you been blogging for?

    • Caitlin August 6, 2010, 12:10 pm

      Just over two years 🙂

  • Liz @ Tip Top Shape August 6, 2010, 10:47 am

I love the sign on the scale! People can get so obsessed with the scale and it really does not show you everything. I’ve stopped weighing myself. I prefer to see how my clothes fit and how I feel.

  • Clare August 6, 2010, 10:53 am

I don’t comment often but I always, always read. It’s so awesome to see you on two television spots spreading a beautiful message. So many strangers are proud of you!

  • Chelsey August 6, 2010, 10:57 am

i just watched the segment this morning!!! how exciting – you did great! i had to google it though because the husband didn’t get DVR!! what an exciting week for you – i couldn’t be happier for you!!

  • Kelly August 6, 2010, 10:57 am

My sis got so mad at my because I changed the channel during Bethenny Getting Married to watch you on Fox. Did they call you Caitlin Doyle though? Or was the brodcaster just a mumbler?

    • caitlin August 6, 2010, 4:50 pm

Hahah yes. But she could’ve called me Peter Rabbit for all I cared! LOL

  • Sarah jayne August 6, 2010, 11:15 am

What an absolutely unforgettable day! Eerything about today moved me sooo deeply- your interview(s), the tweets, the blog posts. I’ve always supported and promoted OB to my friends but after yesterday I am so so motivated to spread the word to all the strangers in my town! EVERYONE deserves to find a note and leave a not for another. Its such a powerful experience!!

  • Hallie August 6, 2010, 11:16 am

Aw, this post was awesome! You’re really good at the “elevator speech” of your blog and what you do. Yesterday, I watched your Today interview on my DVR and had a really interesting conversation with my fiancé about his thoughts on it. He was a little critical of your use of the word “beautiful” to describe something other than physical beauty, and while I disagree with him, it was fascinating to hear his point of view. I also had to describe why I felt like I “knew” you since I’ve been reading from the See Bride Run days, and that was a little funny. (I never buy books…I’m a library girl…but I’m going to buy yours!)

    • Caitlin August 6, 2010, 12:11 pm

I love to hear differing thoughts about it… it great you and your man were able to debate!

  • Michelle @ Give Me the Almond Butter August 6, 2010, 11:26 am

You are doing so much and you’re only 26 years old. You are absolutely amazing and are sharing a great message.

  • Erika @ Food, Fitness, & Fun August 6, 2010, 11:32 am

Haha! The scale disclaimer is so funny!

  • Erika @ Food, Fitness, & Fun August 6, 2010, 11:32 am

    …yet true!

  • amanda August 6, 2010, 11:39 am

Wow! You’re so cool, calm, and collected on these interviews! I’d be a wreck! I was put on live local television once for an event when I worked at a shelter and I barely remembered it, I was in such an anxious haze!

You’re a real bona fide celebrity now, Miss Caitlin. People will be stopping you in the streets in no time! What a wonderful thing to famous for; you rock!

  • Wei-Wei August 6, 2010, 11:45 am

I love that scale disclaimer! You go out there and have fun. 🙂 Oh and BTW: am I still allowed to submit something?

    Wei-Wei

Can you BELIEVE she’s only 26??” Also, it was such a trip to see you and your husband with the pups on camera. Loved it.
