Delicious All Day

in All Posts

Today’s eats have been amazing and delicious!  It was truly an exceptional day of home-cooked eats.  Remember the ULTIME Grilled Banana Sandwich for breakfast?  It was like a good omen.

And then I snacked on a really great, crunchy apple.

Mom and I decided to go back to IKEA today.  It was insanely busy, and Mom kept rubbernecking for every. single. cute. thing.  Which is everything in the store.   But we made it out alive.  🙂

Lunch was a fun Mexican meal.

I topped grilled red pepper and mushroom with vegetarian refried beans.   Not the prettiest bean, but probably the tastiest!

Leftover salad and chips on the side:

Afternoon snack (Greek yogurt) was consumed while we hung up our IKEA and Target prizes – one new painting and curtains – I have never REALLY bought curtains before, and it was so hard.  Almost as hard as choosing a rug.

And last, but certainly not least, I made good on that basil plant and made fresh bruschetta on whole wheat flax bread, but I subbed in Athenos tomato and basil feta.  Nothing taste like bruschetta in the summertime!

With basmati rice from Trader Joe’s.

Do you waver when making decisions about home decorating? I hem and haw over curtains and rugs (they seem so permanent), but I bought my car after two hours of online shopping.  :)  Go figure.

    LOVE bruschetta!

  • Kaz July 10, 2010, 10:17 pm

Yes. It’s so bad that my house has absolutely *no* decoration because I’m afraid to commit to something I might hate. xD

    • Lizz @ Leading the Good Life July 10, 2010, 10:22 pm

I’m the same way!! I have tons of placemats and cloth napkins because they’re easy to swap out….but everything else in my house is still un-styled!

      • Kaz July 11, 2010, 2:02 am

Same here. Except…no placemats. Or napkins, either. Hah. 😀

  • Deva (Voracious Vorilee) July 10, 2010, 10:18 pm

I take my time making decorating decisions. It took us right up until a week before we moved into our first apartment to have bedding picked out!

  • Anya @ Fitness & Sunshine July 10, 2010, 10:21 pm

You’ve def. had a delicious day! 🙂 For home decorating, hmm… I like cute & cheap stuff! haha

I have a question: what kind of wrap do you use? Usually wraps have this funky taste that I just can’t stand… do you have suggestions for any good ones?

  • Erin July 10, 2010, 10:23 pm

Hahahah, I’m the same way about home decorating. Especially curtains, lamps, and art.

  • Liz @ Tip Top Shape July 10, 2010, 10:27 pm

Was that poppyseed dressing I spied on your salad?? If so I heartily approve. That stuff is beyond good 😀

  • Carolyn @ lovinlosing July 10, 2010, 10:29 pm

Ikea is my reward tomorrow after my triathlon! 🙂

  • jen July 10, 2010, 10:34 pm

when i lived by myself my walls were bare because i couldn’t bring myself to spend money on house decorations (i’d much spend extra money on clothes!) but as soon as i got married that all changed. my husband is responsible for a good 90% of our decorated home.

  • ari July 10, 2010, 10:43 pm

i’ve never had to shop for home decor before, but i imagine i would be exactly the same. they’re such big decisions that could possibly impact your whole demeanor!

  • Samantha Angela @ Bikini Birthday July 10, 2010, 11:04 pm

I went to IKEA today too! I picked up a chair for my new custom California Closets desk and a couple of desk lamps. I’m so excited to get it looking just the way I want it to. My new desk is enormous! enough room for 3 computers and workspace.

  • Jessica @ How Sweet It Is July 10, 2010, 11:14 pm

I can never make up my mind when it comes to decorating – I want everything!

  • Wei-Wei July 10, 2010, 11:28 pm

Good eats INDEED! I think I’ll be making that grilled banana sandwich for lunch. 😀

We actually went to IKEA today too! Got some great kitchen organizer stuff…..which somehow took HOURS!

  • Angel July 10, 2010, 11:50 pm

I’ve lived at my apt.for 2 years now and still haven’t fully decorated. What’s wrong with me? LOL

  • Amber K @ sparkpeople July 10, 2010, 11:53 pm

All of the “style” at my house came in stuff we’ve inherited or found at second-hand stores, so it’s all very random!

  • Christie July 11, 2010, 12:08 am

The curtains and rugs aren’t too bad because I figure they aren’t too hard to replace but the furniture! We spend weeks (months?) picking out a living room set. We only spent a few days online shopping picking out cars though…

  • Lori Lynn July 11, 2010, 12:12 am

The banana sandwich looks really good. I might have to try it. Thanks for sharing.

  • Chelsey July 11, 2010, 12:13 am

I can’t overthink the home decorations – I have to pick one thing and just not look back so I don’t second guess my decisions!

  • Katheryn July 11, 2010, 12:17 am

Me too. Stuff like a car, I don’t care. But any decorating decision for my house takes me forever. I need major help making those decisions.

  • MLT July 11, 2010, 12:22 am

I’m so excited to see your new curtains!

  • MLT July 11, 2010, 12:24 am

Oh, and I don’t know what your style is exactly, but if you’re ever looking for original art, my hus is an oil painter. We’re really into modern furnishings but the oil paintings looks surprisingly good with that kind of thing…they kind of “class it up” 🙂

    • caitlin July 11, 2010, 11:26 am

Your hubby is a great painter!

  • Rachel July 11, 2010, 12:58 am

I have never been to an IKEA. I’m very afraid to allow myself in.

  • Maria @ Oh Healthy Day (Formally A La Mode) July 11, 2010, 1:09 am

I can never make decorating decisions! But bringing your Mom along certainly had to help – these things need more than one opinion!

  • Camille July 11, 2010, 1:11 am

I feel like your Mom and I have very similar Ikea styles… I must have everything even vaguely cute 🙂

  • Freya @ Brit Chick Runs July 11, 2010, 2:27 am

Gah I could drop so much money in Ikea if I had the choice!! I think I’m pretty decisive though – it didn’t take me long to pick wallpaper for my room 🙂

  • Michelle @ Give Me the Almond Butter July 11, 2010, 3:09 am

What a great question. Rugs I take a bunch of time, big furniture not so much.

  • Sarah (Running to Slow Things Down) July 11, 2010, 7:28 am

    Mmm…the bruschetta looks amazing! 😀

It takes me forever to decide on colors for walls. I feel that once I paint it, it’s going to be there for a long time. So I take my time imagining what the walls will look like in a specific color. But when it comes to pillows and accents, I kind of just go with whatever I’m feeling at the moment. 😉

  • Rebecca July 11, 2010, 7:54 am

I think I’m going to have to make a grilled banana sandwich this morning. It seems perfect for a Sunday.

As far as home decorating goes– I am wayyy to indecisive. I want everything in Ikea and it’s hard for me to make a choice.

  • Amy July 11, 2010, 8:18 am

Oy my gosh! I’ve been reading your blog for over a year now and I’ve never commented, but I was in Ikea today in Charlotte. Your mom came up to me and complimented me on my hair color! I didn’t see you, but what a coincidence!!!

    • caitlin July 11, 2010, 11:26 am

NO WAY. I was standing right behind you!!! Where you the girl in the frame section?

My mom is so friendly to strangers LOL

      • Amy July 11, 2010, 3:05 pm

That was me!! I wish I had seen you! I actually live in Raleigh, so it’s even crazier!

  • Heather @ Side of Sneakers July 11, 2010, 8:28 am

Oh I agonize over every decision in decorating- even after I’ve made a decision I can’t decide if I really like it. I’m like that with everything though 😉

  • Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin July 11, 2010, 8:44 am

I LOVE Ikea! I have such a hard time making decisions when it comes to decorating though. I can’t even choose what style to go with, let alone pick out the little things.

I totally agree on the bruschetta. Such a great summer food!

  • Morgan @ Life After Bagels July 11, 2010, 8:48 am

Oh I was not so fortunate yesterday. I started out be being hungry an hour after breakfast and then realized I had packed a mushy pear when I only like crunchy pears.

  • Deb July 11, 2010, 9:34 am

Thank goodness for Ikea! It’s easier to make decorating decisions there because the prices are so good, you know you can afford to change things out rather than feel as if you’re committing for life!

  • Stacey @ Tipping the (Kitchen!) Scales July 11, 2010, 10:56 am

I’m just a really indecisive person generally so any decision can take a rediculous amount of time! Glad you’re enjoying IKEA and that you enjoyed your eats!

  • Tiffany July 11, 2010, 12:30 pm

The BF just bought a 1970’s townhouse, so it’s safe to say it had a lot of … character. We just spent a lot of time (and money) renovating the place (gutted the bathrooms and kitchen and started from scratch) and it took FOREVER to choose cabinets, countertops, etc. Once we finished, we thought finishing touches such as rugs, curtains, paint, etc. would be a piece of cake. Never been more wrong in my entire life! haha, i’m so indecisive and I know what you mean about it seeming permanent, although in our case, it’s the least permanent decision we’ve had to make.

  • Theodora July 11, 2010, 1:27 pm

YES! I am so indecisive with home decorating. I have wanted new pillows for my couch for two years, and FINALLY just decided on them!

  • Jolene (www.everydayfoodie.ca) July 11, 2010, 6:30 pm

Your mom is so pretty!! She looks lovely in that picture 🙂

  • Joolzy July 19, 2010, 2:23 am

OMG just made the grilled banana sandwich and it is HEAVENLY! I spread cashew nut butter on one slice of the bread too, which knocked it out of this world!

Hard to believe this is a healthy breakfast cos it’s so tasty and super indulgent, but I guess it must be since everything is grilled…? 😀

    • caitlin July 19, 2010, 11:49 am

yup! it’s just whole wheat bread, eggs, banana and nut butter! all healthy ingredients in a fun way!
