Out of Wack

in All Posts

I feel so out of wack.  My house is in shambles, I’m exhausted, and I missed my window to exercise today.  I’d love to get back into a normal routine – perhaps tomorrow?

Before I was a regular exerciser, I never understood people who ‘craved’ exercise.  But once you get into the habit, it just becomes part of your life… like brushing your teeth!  I think it took me 3 months to really feel like exercise was a normal thing.  So if you’re getting into the habit – stick with it!

Anywho, instead of exercising, I drank beer.  :)

Matt (Kath’s Matt) surprised me by stopping by my house on his way home from work!  I was so happy to see a familiar face.

Not only did he bring me a refreshing beer, but he also brought Great Harvest bread!  My favorite kind – Dakota.

I ate two slices, and it was magical.

After showering (for the first time in 36 hours!!!), the Husband and I did some furniture shopping, probably spending wayyyy too much money but ending up with a really nice couch and bed.   Pictures are forthcoming, I promise!

At 9:30 PM, takeaway was definitely required.

IMG_7465

I got Panaag curry with tofu and mixed vegetables.  It was everything I wanted it to be… but it wasn’t AS good as Royal Thai.

I must now vacate the office – my inlaws’ need to go to bed!

Moving to a new place + a new city throws everything out of whack! It sounds like you need a fabulous sleep and a gorgeous bowl of oats + yogurt in the am 🙂

  • Emily Eats and Exercises June 28, 2010, 10:43 pm

I think moving is the most disruptive thing ever. You’ll be back in your routine soon I’m sure. I hear you about the exercise habit. I get grumpy and antsy when I don’t get to exercise. If you had told me that I would love exercise 10 year ago I would have laughed in your face.
Looking forward to seeing all your new furniture!

  • Jessica @ The Process of Healing June 28, 2010, 10:43 pm

Awww so sweet of Matt!!! I hope you like Charlotte!

  • Lauren (Clean Eats in the Dirty South) June 28, 2010, 10:56 pm

i feel the need to find me some of this bread!! it looks so good.
glad you’re settling in 🙂 can’t wait to see more pictures of the place.

  • Jenny June 28, 2010, 11:03 pm

Moving is a big process! I hope when it’s done you’ll get te chance to relax!

  • caronae June 28, 2010, 11:05 pm

Glad you are safe and sound my dear! It’s so cute how you say the British “takeaway” instead of the American “takeout.” 🙂

    • caitlin June 29, 2010, 8:12 am

heheh i love takeway! so much better than takeout!

  • Amber K @ sparkpeople June 28, 2010, 11:07 pm

I can slip into missing exercise for a day or two, but eventually I realize that I need to do it! I don’t know if I’d call it a craving, but I know that I need it to feel right.

    That bread looks soooo yummy!

  • Hillary [Nutrition Nut on the Run] June 28, 2010, 11:12 pm

That was so sweet of Matt to stop by! Can’t wait to see your decorating process, but don’t try to do it all in 48 hrs. – you need rest : )

  • Michelle @ Give Me the Almond Butter June 28, 2010, 11:13 pm

I love Thai! I hope everything gets better in a little bit. It’s funny how you and Kath are both going through the same thing.

  • Marilou @ Mostly Healthy June 28, 2010, 11:15 pm

“They” say that if you do something on a regular basis for 3 months, anything!, it will become part of your comfort zone.

I dare you to try something stupid for 3 months to prove it, like play yukulele every day or take a walk with a hula hup 😉

    • caitlin June 29, 2010, 8:12 am

      hahahah!

  • Jackie (Peaces of Earth) June 28, 2010, 11:24 pm

That was so sweet of Matt!! It’s always hard to get back into your routine after a big change like moving. I’m sure you’ll be back to your old ways in no time!

  • Kalli@fitandfortysomething June 28, 2010, 11:27 pm

What a nice surprise from Matt! You know moving is so tough- the exercise will come when things settle down. Just enjoy the process right now 🙂

  • Rebecca June 28, 2010, 11:39 pm

I love everything about this post. Can’t wait to see the couch! The bread looks awesome- it was so nice of Matt to stop by. Your take out is making me want take out! I feel the same way about exercise!

  • Run Sarah June 28, 2010, 11:41 pm

That bread looks SO good, what a fun surprise! I can’t wait to see your new furniture. I need ideas!

  • Wei-Wei June 28, 2010, 11:54 pm

Hahaha I love how Matt stopped by! What an awesome surprise 😀 I can’t say I understand about the exercise being a habit (yet) but I think it’ll come back to you quite naturally! 🙂

  • Marina June 29, 2010, 12:01 am

    Matt is really nice 🙂
Don’t worry, you’ll soon be back to your routine, before you know it 😉

  • Annie@stronghealthyfit June 29, 2010, 12:13 am

You are hilarious- you totally deserve a beer instead of a workout today 😉 I had a good pint tonight too- first one in a month! Hungary does not know good beer.

  • Sarah for Real June 29, 2010, 12:22 am

So you ARE human Caitlin! I finally believe it, beer instead of exercise 😀

    • caitlin June 29, 2010, 8:13 am

      I’m a real girl!

  • Candice June 29, 2010, 12:22 am

I’m thinking I need to find a way to get my hands on some of that bread!

Try to enjoy the moving process (if you can;). It’s definitely hard to be out of your routine, but you’ll be back in it before you know it!

Also, I don’t know if you’re looking for advice (probably not!), but try not to feel pressure to get all your decorating done asap. We moved a year ago, and it took over six months to get our decorating anywhere near where we wanted it to be. It was much more enjoyable because we weren’t in a hurry. We just did stuff as we felt inspired!

    Can’t wait to see pics:)

    • caitlin June 29, 2010, 8:13 am

this is great advice… thank you!

  • Kaz June 29, 2010, 12:29 am

That was so nice of Matt! 😀

I’m glad you’re getting settled, though. Once things fall into place, it’s bound to be less stressful.

  • Jolene (www.everydayfoodie.ca) June 29, 2010, 12:35 am

You will be into your routine again in no time!! Moving always throws things out of wack for a couple days 🙂

  • Tiffany June 29, 2010, 3:08 am

I love that you referred to takeout food as “takeaway”. Makes me miss the UK so much!

You’ll get back into your routine soon. The first few days after a long move is always hectic and stressful.

  • Freya @ Brit Chick Runs June 29, 2010, 3:26 am

Oh to be friends with a baker…it must come in handy so much!
    Have a good day 🙂

  • Vicky June 29, 2010, 3:29 am

Your new home looks so nice!! And I’m sure you will be exercising again soon! And who said that moving wasn’t exercise!? Good luck settling in!

  • Becky June 29, 2010, 5:00 am

Moving is so so difficult, especially when you are moving to a whole new city/state. Allow yourself a few liberties and luxuries during this really difficult transition. Before you know it, your new home will be all sorted and lovely! How long will your in-laws be staying with you guys?

    • caitlin June 29, 2010, 8:14 am

Well we are leaving on Wednesday to go out of town for a wedding… and then they will leave, too.

  • Cassie @ Tasteful Tales June 29, 2010, 6:25 am

You’ll get back into the swing of things soon no worries. I hate when my routine breaks – but you are definitely being productive in the meantime!

  • Jessica @ How Sweet It Is June 29, 2010, 6:32 am

I would feel totally out of whack! I’m sure it is completely normal. You will be back on track in no time. 🙂

  • Lauren June 29, 2010, 6:50 am

I know what you mean about being out of whack when you are not in any routine. That has to be the worst part about a change in life but don’t worry, life will settle down in no time and you will be back in the swing of things.

    Good luck with the unpacking!

  • Sarah (Running to Slow Things Down) June 29, 2010, 7:24 am

Don’t worry, you’ll feel back to normal with a routine in no time! 😀

  • Courtney @ Three Months June 29, 2010, 7:44 am

That was so nice of Matt – what a great friend! And sometimes just having a beer in place of exercising makes everything better! 😉

  • Samantha @ Health, Happiness & Skinny Jeans June 29, 2010, 8:18 am

You’ll be back on track in no time I’m sure. Enjoy a bit of a break. You’ve definitely earned it!!

  • Heather (Heather's Dish) June 29, 2010, 8:52 am

you’re going through a ton of change right now…you’re allowed to be out of whack for a bit!

  • Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin June 29, 2010, 8:55 am

I know what you mean about craving exercise! My day doesn’t feel complete without it.

That was so thoughtful of Matt! Beer is the cure-all for the stress of moving. 😉

  • Carolyn @ lovinlosing June 29, 2010, 8:58 am

I think all the craziness going on in your life is so exciting! New town, new house, new job for the husband…stressful, but exciting!

  • Beyond The TextBook June 29, 2010, 8:59 am

Your words about exercising are very encouraging! I just started running 6 weeks ago – I feel like I have come a very long way (just did first 5K!) but I stil have that nagging feeling like I am never going to be an “actual runner” or that this is just a phase and I’ll change my mind. Hearing what you said about 3 months and sticking with it really makes me feel a lot better! THANKS! 🙂

    • caitlin June 29, 2010, 9:55 am

You will definitely get there! Never forget that everyone starts somewhere. You can get there!

  • Marissa June 29, 2010, 9:02 am

If I don’t do some kinda exercise everyday, I always feel off and almost kinda… sad? I don’t know, hahah! I might drive up to NC one of these days just to taste Great Harvest Dakota bread.

  • Heather June 29, 2010, 9:13 am

you have a lot going on, it’s ok to be out of whack! I feel like I have been out of whack half the month of June.

  • Kelly June 29, 2010, 9:17 am

Can’t wait to see your furniture purchases!

  • Stephanie June 29, 2010, 9:20 am

we moved into our new house last june and it was definitely tough to have a normal routine for a little while, i totally understand! once you’re settled it will all be back to normal though 🙂

i’ve also never heard takeout be called “takeaway” – so interesting?!

  • Angela @ Eat Spin Run Repeat June 29, 2010, 9:24 am

Oooh your takeaway looks delish! Don’t worry, I’m sure you’ll get back into your routine soon. I’m sure moving is quite a lot of exercise and you don’t even realize it!

  • Lindsay @ The Ketchup Diaries June 29, 2010, 9:24 am

You have your entire life to exercise, girl. I know what you mean about it being part of the routine, but sometimes, life takes over. You’ll be back to normal Caitlin in no time. So jealous you guys bought a bed, btw! We’ve had our house for a year and still have mismatched furniture in our bedroom!!

  • kit June 29, 2010, 9:39 am

I have been reading your posts for quite sometime and just now felt like commenting. I am trying hard to do things in a healthier manner and needed a bit of advice from someone who has done this for some time. My issue is the weekends….I do fantastic all week long, but the weekend comes along and it feels as though I undo all my hard work by eating junk and having too many glasses of wine and not exercising….how can I make this a priority on the weekend? Any tips would be greatly appreciated!

    • caitlin June 29, 2010, 9:58 am

      Hi Kit!

I feel you on the wine thing 🙂 Drinking is definitely my vice too so what I try to do is choose ONE thing I’m going to indulge in – not food AND drink. If I want two or three glasses of wine, I try to eat a great, clean meal before and after. If I want to eat a feast, I get water. That way I don’t really feel like I’m depriving myself totally.

Also, get your workouts done right away if you do choose to exercise on the weekend… Don’t leave it for the afternoon or you’ll never go!

That being said, if you workout 3 times a week during the week and just go on a walk or something during the weekend, it won’t kill you 🙂 Some people really just need to recharge on Saturday and Sunday.

  • Evan Thomas June 29, 2010, 9:42 am

Talk about things out of whack, I saw the first picture and was convinced I was reading KERF. Lol.

  • Amanda @ Cakes and Ale June 29, 2010, 9:44 am

We’ve been decorating our new house too and I feel so guilty with all the money were spending on furniture! I mean, we saved up for it, so this money was specifically set aside for this purpose, but it’s still kind of overwhelming!

  • Miranda @ Mirandasjeans June 29, 2010, 9:47 am

I completely know what you maen about being out of whack. My work schedule and personal life have been up down left and right. I feel like I have 3 windows of opportunity, but only the time for 1 window (1. Clean/general tidying 2. Hubby time 3. Workout) Obviously the working out has been taking the last priority to 1. and 2. More 2 now that the hubby is home after a long and very stressful 10 day work project. If not today or tomorrow Thurday life should be back to ‘normal’. Workouts here I come!

  • Shannon @ Before Sunrise June 29, 2010, 10:00 am

Moving is difficult! It takes a lot out of your mentally and physically – especially mentally if you are leaving a place you love. You’ll fall into a routine before you know it and be out and about enjoying your new city 🙂

  • M June 29, 2010, 10:01 am

Thank you so much for reminding us to stick with are new healthy habits! When I was in college I worked out all the time and your post reminded me how my body used to crave working out too! The past two years I have not been working out much and I am trying to get back into it but I keep getting discouraged. Your blog has definitly been helping a lot! thanks so much! Jenn in CT

  • Jen June 29, 2010, 10:37 am

I’m new to the health blogs, but when I came across yours I thought, ‘oh that’s so funny she’s moving to the same area as KERF. I wonder if they’ll meet sometime’ little did i know that you two already know each other!
