Moving Counts as Cardio

in All Posts

Whoop, whoop!  After 7+ hours of packing and cleaning, we’re finally resting happily at my in-laws’ (1.5 hours north of Orlando).

IMG_7395

It was truly a long, long day!  Let’s get this recap started…

Woke up early with a bit of a hangover from our going away party.  When will I ever learn that 1 Glasses of Wine = Happy Caitlin and 2 = Slightly Hungover Caitlin?!  Nothing that a bowl of oatmeal can’t cure (with a banana + coconut).  Eaten on my mattress in the middle of my living room!

IMG_7375

After breakfast, we headed out to pick up my car (it needed repairs before traveling 500+ miles) and then we picked up the trailer.  Can you believe we packed our entire two-bedroom house in an SUV, a Civic, and a 5 by 8 trailer?  Well, we did sell ALL of our furniture except two chairs!

IMG_0471

And then we went to Dandelion CommuniTea, a vegetarian cafe.  This is the Husband’s #1 favorite restaurant in all of Orlando, and he insisted we stop by “one last time.”

He was very sad face while we waited for our order.

IMG_0472

We both got the Bean There, Done That wrap (but he got vegan cheese and I ordered feta).   It came with a side of hummus + chips.

IMG_0478

With that full in our bellies, we started to load up the cars and the trailer.  It was BLAZING hot outside and definitely counted as a workout!

IMG_7376

IMG_7377

In fact, I went up and down our stairs FIFTY SIX times (yes, I counted).   That means I walked down (with heavy boxes) and walked back up 1,568 stairs.

IMG_7381

All I can say is… Thank goodness we are moving to a first-floor duplex!

At some point during the move, I drank a beer and it was everything I hoped it would be!

After cleaning the apartment from top to bottom (it’s amazing how dirty stuff gets even when you’re a very clean person!), I snacked on a banana.

IMG_7386

Once everything was loaded and cleaned, we took showers and got behind the wheels drive to my in-laws’.  My driving buddy was James (by the way, the dogs were totally freaking out about the move!).  We snacked on Goldfish and a lollipop as we drove.

IMG_0479

Annnnnd once we arrived, I made Split Pea Soup (Amy’s brand) and an English muffin.

IMG_7397

WHEW!  What a day, huh?  I’m exhausted, but the hard part is over – we’re driving to North Carolina and unloading on Monday.  Unloading is a LOT easier than loading + cleaning!  We were pretty determined to get back out $965 security deposit so it was all worth it!

If you could  move anywhere, where would you go?  I want to move to Hawaii!

I would move to the mountains of OR or CO. Good job on moving. My apartment is currently on the fourth floor…eight flights of stairs. I am dreading it. Enjoy the new chapter in your lives 🙂

  • Cynthia (It All Changes) June 26, 2010, 10:26 pm

Moving totally counts as cardio. And James looks like he wants to steal your gold fish.

  • Help Meghan Run June 26, 2010, 10:27 pm

Congrats! Enjoy the very well-deserved rest. 🙂

  • Jessica June 26, 2010, 10:29 pm

Oh wow girl!! You’re a moving machine!!
Goldfish… the BEST road trip snack ever. Just sayin.

    • Jessica June 26, 2010, 10:30 pm

And if I could move anywhere, it would be Ireland. No question.

  • Lauren (Clean Eats in the Dirty South) June 26, 2010, 10:30 pm

moving is DEFINITELY cardio for me too!! i have to move a super heavy mini fridge, fifty zillion pounds of clothes, storage boxes, AND a microwave, printer, and TV up 2 flights of stairs because my dorm doesnt have an elevator. :s
hope the rest of the move goes smoothly! 🙂

  • Bridget June 26, 2010, 10:30 pm

Whew, what a day you had! That’s a lot of stairs and cardio! Rest up well 🙂

  • Becka @Musings June 26, 2010, 10:32 pm

UGH! Nate and I are mid move right now so I totally feel your pain. I was tired for 3 days after we packed, loaded, and unloaded our moving truck in one day. SUCKS.

  • Julie @Pickley Pear June 26, 2010, 10:34 pm

The wrap looks delicious! I would love to move to Chicago, such a fun city for young single people!

  • Marianne June 26, 2010, 10:36 pm

We just moved on Thursday, and it DEFINITELY counts as a workout! We had movers helping us and it still whooped my butt.

  • Brittany June 26, 2010, 10:42 pm

Reading this post is like reliving my Saturday last weekend! Glad to hear you all are done with the packing and cleaning. Unpacking and decorating is way more fun.

And, I totally counted packing and loading as a workout as well. 🙂

  • Jo June 26, 2010, 10:44 pm

that burrito looks so good! i have to make burritos this week

  • Laura Smith June 26, 2010, 10:45 pm

I would move to florida or california in a heartbeat. Nebraska just isn’t enough..I need the ocean..and a city 🙂

  • Wei-Wei June 26, 2010, 10:47 pm

I do agree – moving is definitely cardio, considering all those stairs you climbed! Congrats on the successful packing/loading – I hope the rest of the move goes as smoothly! 🙂

  • Brynne June 26, 2010, 10:48 pm

Moving DEFINITELY counts as cardio! And I’ve only moved in and out of college!

Right now, if I could live anywhere in the world, it would be Boston. Or California. Or Florence. I can’t choose!

  • Lisa June 26, 2010, 10:51 pm

I think it would be fun to love in New York City, which is pretty much the opposite of the rural woods I live in now.

  • Catherine June 26, 2010, 10:52 pm

I just saw the season finale of Sarah’s House on HGTV. I don’t even know where the farm house she renovated is, but I want to move there!

  • Sarah for Real June 26, 2010, 11:09 pm

I would move to the Cook Islands! Aitutaki to be specific 😀

You are right, the hard part is over and now comes the FUN part! I love getting settled into a new place.

  • Juli @ blessmyheart June 26, 2010, 11:20 pm

We are planning to move to Atlanta within the next year, on to bigger and (hopefully) better things. Between reading you and Kath’s moving adventures this week, I am ready to go RIGHT NOW! I love a fresh start!

  • Emily Eats and Exercises June 26, 2010, 11:25 pm

That is an exhausting number of stairs! I’m impressed with your day – there is very little I hate more than moving. 😛
    Good luck!

  • jassy June 26, 2010, 11:27 pm

i want to move to canada 🙂

  • Amber K @ sparkpeople June 26, 2010, 11:49 pm

I don’t mind traveling, but I LOVE living near Portland. I love my town, love the area, and I wouldn’t want to move!

  • Kiersten June 27, 2010, 12:06 am

    Italy

  • Samantha @ Health, Happiness & Skinny Jeans June 27, 2010, 12:20 am

I don’t know if I would move anywhere right now. Toronto is driving me bananas right now (G20 ugh!!) but its home. I like to travel but for the time being this is where I belong.

  • maria @ Chasing the Now June 27, 2010, 12:22 am

Good luck in the upcoming days! Half the works is over now!

  • mm June 27, 2010, 1:19 am

If you had asked the question a year ago, I would have said Alaska – and now we live here and I LOVE IT!!! If I could pick anywhere after this, I would probably choose Germany or Ireland. 🙂
Our dogs were very nervous during the packing process, but they did really well in the car and settled in to the new house really quickly!

  • Amanda June 27, 2010, 1:34 am

Dear god that is a lot of stairs…..

  • Katherine @ Left Coast Contessa June 27, 2010, 1:53 am

If I could move anywhere I would move to Paris!

  • Candice June 27, 2010, 2:14 am

Congrats on getting through the move! You’re definitely through the hardest part…now the fun part of buying new furniture, moving in and decorating!

I’m not sure I would move anywhere! I once moved overseas to live for a year, and while it was a great experience I missed home like a crazy person!! Maybe I should try moving a shorter distance next time. Hmmm….I’ve always thought the east coast looks nice:)

  • Freya @ Brit Chick Runs June 27, 2010, 2:18 am

That must have been an amazing workout – stairs are HARD!
If I could move anywhere, it would be the USA. It’s my ultimate dream to get there, I just don’t know how to :'(
    I hope today goes well!

  • Samantha June 27, 2010, 3:08 am

Between you and Kath there’s been a lot of moving related working out this week! 😉 I bet you’re glad to be on your way.

Hawaii is great, there’s a good chance DH’s next tour will be there. But top of our list is Germany, 2nd to that is anywhere stateside.

  • Emily June 27, 2010, 3:26 am

I always find moving so exhausting, but moving to another state must be quite exciting too.
I missed your texts last night for the US game! I had to come in off my balcony and watch it for myself 😉

  • Little Bookworm June 27, 2010, 4:01 am

Glad the moving went well. 🙂

  • Rachel @ Suburban Yogini June 27, 2010, 4:47 am

    Back to Australia for me!

And hope the next leg of the move goes well!

  • Katherine June 27, 2010, 6:21 am

moving is synonymous with cardio right? way to make it look easy; there’s no way it was

  • Annie@stronghealthyfit June 27, 2010, 7:18 am

So exciting! The hard part is over 🙂
I would move to the San Francisco Bay Area… *sigh.

  • Heather June 27, 2010, 7:21 am

wow sounds exhausting! I have no idea how you fit all your stuff in there! I guess I just have too much crap!

  • Gabriela @ Une Vie Saine June 27, 2010, 7:23 am

Glad the move went so well!! If I could move anywhere, it would be somewhere warm year round- Hawaii sounds like a pretty good option!

  • Marina June 27, 2010, 7:34 am

I’m glad that you’re done with packing, I know how much trouble that all is.
I would move to New Zealand, hopefully, one day, I will 🙂

  • Alison June 27, 2010, 7:55 am

Moving does burn a lot of calories. We live in a 3 level townhouse and while movers brought all of our furniture in (thankfully!), I had to unload all the boxes and put things away. I must have walked up and down our stairs a hundred times. Whew. Serious exercise.
I’ll second your wish to live in Hawaii. We actually lived there over 10 years ago, but three years wasn’t long enough. I’d love to go back.

  • Suzanne June 27, 2010, 8:03 am

We have a Dandelion near us that I’ve been really curious about. Your food looks really good! I may have to stop by, now! We’re moving to a high rise in August, which will actually be harder than when we moved in to our current place! Def not looking forward to it.

If I could move anywhere, I’d move to Jacksonville. I love that city so much, and hopefully I’ll actually get there one day!

  • Marissa June 27, 2010, 8:23 am

Moving totally counts as a workout! Hahah. And its amazing how DIRTY a house can be, even when you clean it multiple times a week! I’m always amazed at all the dirt I can find when I actually start looking for it!

  • eatmovelove June 27, 2010, 8:27 am

Oh Hawaii for sure – relaxed vibe, great seafood and vegetables, the ocean…why not?…course I’ve never been there 😉

I’d LOVE to travel though and see where I would like to be…somewhere beautiful and inspiring with great, relaxed people…

  • Rebecca June 27, 2010, 8:31 am

Love your driving buddy! Good luck with the rest of the move. I’m so excited for you!

  • sarah (the SHU box) June 27, 2010, 9:14 am

    awww congratulations!!

honestly, if i could live anywhere in the world i would STAY HERE (i’m in chapel hill NC). i would upgrade from our little apartment to a beautiful house though 🙂

in ~4 years or so, however, we will be moving to miami beach. i’ve informed my (miami native) husband that if it doesn’t measure up to NC, we’re coming right back.

  • Sarah June 27, 2010, 9:30 am

Moving definitely counts as a workout! Hm…sometimes I think if I could move anywhere, it would be California. I just love the idea of moving there!

  • Heather (heather's dish) June 27, 2010, 9:31 am

that’s so funny you said hawaii! when we were planning on moving out of Dallas we said either Maui or Denver…but when we looked at how much it would cost we went with Denver instead 🙂

if i could move anywhere I’d say Maui (still ;)) or somewhere in the US Virgin Islands!

  • BethT June 27, 2010, 9:47 am

My dog was kinda freaked out by our move to CA a few years ago, but I was more freaked out because I had to put him on a plane! We took a long time to drive across the country and we weren’t sure he’d enjoy the journey. He rode the plane like a champ, though 🙂

  • Camille June 27, 2010, 9:49 am

If I could move anywhere it would be Ireland. It is my dream and I am determined to do it someday when I am done with school and more financially stable.
But for now, I will take moving to another very green place. I am heading to Oregon in August! Wahoo!

  • Kelly @ Healthy Living With Kelly June 27, 2010, 9:52 am

YES! Definitely Hawaii! We went to Maui on our honeymoon and I can not wait to go back!!! I would definitely want to live there but I have heard that island fever is a REAL thing and a lot of people really start to feel claustrophobic after a while!

  • Anne June 27, 2010, 9:56 am

Have a safe trip, you guys!!! Unpacking is definitely easier than packing up and cleaning. At least you can take your time! ha 🙂
I will move to Scotland one day. Hubby and I spent a week in Edinburgh a few summers ago, and I left my heart there.

  • Heather @ Side of Sneakers June 27, 2010, 10:09 am

Aww moving is so bittersweet!! I’m not sure where I’d want to move, I haven’t been to many places! Somewhere with lots of friends & where I could walk everywhere, all year round 🙂

  • Marilou @ Mostly Healthy June 27, 2010, 10:10 am

Your husband as such a pug face hahaha! 🙂 Love the drapes at your in-laws! Very dramatic!

  • Courtney (Pancakes & Postcards) June 27, 2010, 10:14 am

    moving is definitely cardio!!!

i live in california/mozambique now and i think the next place i would like to live is Istanbul, Turkey or Beirut, Lebanon. I also love London and just fell in love with Cape Town so… I think it is safe to say I won’t be back in the States permanently anytime soon 🙂

  • Sarena (The Non Dairy Queen) June 27, 2010, 10:21 am

Wow, that was quite the workout! Glad you got it all done and hopefully you get your deposit back! Definitely get some rest today! Dang, that vegetarian place sounds delicious! What a great way to fuel up! Good luck on the drive! At this point, I am not really sure why, but I kinda want to move to Portland. With two kids, the life of moving around is kind of over for us right now, but later on…we are going to be nomads! Have a great day!

  • Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin June 27, 2010, 11:19 am

Moving definitely counts as a workout! I’m glad all the packing up went well!

I would move to California if I could! Good restaurants, good weather, good shopping, and good wine. What more do you need? 😛

  • Isha June 27, 2010, 12:08 pm

I’m actually moving next month too – to home, to figure out the next part of life (I just graduated with my master’s), but I’m thinking about my ideal place to move too! I’ve decided on Martha’s Vineyard, off the coast of Mass. I’d LOVE to live there.

  • Jolene (www.everydayfoodie.ca) June 27, 2010, 12:58 pm

If I could move anywhere and all my friends and family were moving there too … then I would choose Hawaii or Manhattan!

  • Claire June 27, 2010, 1:40 pm

I’ve started reading your blog lately, as I just started my own, and I have to say I’m really enjoying it. I’m extra excited that you will be moving to Charlotte! That is where I live and I can’t wait to see how you enjoy the city and what great eating spots, grocery store items and fun-tips I can get from your blog!

    • caitlin June 28, 2010, 2:36 pm

Hi! Maybe we can meet someday soon!

      Claire is my favorite name!

  • Christy June 27, 2010, 8:40 pm

My husband and I went to Maui on our 1 yr anniversary. The minute we came home we packed up and moved there for 2 years. It was the most unforgettable experience of our lives and we have never regretted it…even though we came home practically broke! It is very expensive to live in the islands and many locals have 2-3 jobs. Now after some more traveling we decided we could easily live in Australia or New Zealand. The people and their lifestyles are fantastic!

  • Julie June 27, 2010, 9:35 pm

I would just die if I could move to Germany. Actually, I’m going to try to make it happen. I went for about a month a little while ago and now I can’t wait to go back. I hope your move goes well!

  • Katie D June 27, 2010, 9:49 pm

I moved from an apartment that my family had lived in for 4 years to a house. My first time moving I was naive to belive moving the two bedroom apt would be easy, how much stuff could it be? Well I found out the hard way not to leave it for the last moment! We were moving car load by car load for about 24 hours straight to make it in time for the new people to move in the next day and ended up shoving most of our belongings in trash bags but I defiently learned from my experience! Especially when we hopefully move to Hawaii in two years!! With our lil hippie Konner~~ My friend said he will teach him how to surf the pipelines on the north shore!! Miss u guys (and Maggie tooo)!

  • Michelle June 27, 2010, 9:53 pm

Congrats on your move!!! We’re moving soon and between you and Kath, I feel like I”m getting lots of good info 🙂

If I could move somewhere… I think it would be Europe! Not permanantly, though… just for a couple of years.

  • Heather June 28, 2010, 12:21 am

That moving does sound like it was a great workout, congrats on making it to NC!

If I could move anywhere it would definitely be Edinburgh, Scotland. I loved, loved, loved it when I visited Scotland and England 4 years ago and dream of the day I can return1

  • Beth @ DiningAndDishing June 28, 2010, 11:12 am

I think I’d move to CA and work at a winery. Beautiful scenery, amazing food and wine :). What could be better!?

  • Cheryl June 28, 2010, 12:52 pm

Panama or Costa Rica! And, work? Uh, no. Not for awhile at least. :0
