Our fridge is bare (and there’s no point in restocking because we’re going out of town for the rest of the week) so we hit up a nearby deli for lunch.

IMG_7575

This is no regular deli – oh no!  Not just sliced meat and cheese; there’s actually five or six vegetarian sandwiches offered, and the menu rotates.

IMG_7577

IMG_7578

I opted for the Lulu wrap, a hummus and tabouli wrap with cucumber, tomato, and sprouts.

Isn’t it amazing looking?  So flavorful!

IMG_7587

IMG_7581

On the side, I made a spinach and Athenos feta salad.  Today kicks off the beginning of the CHANGE FOR THE FETA month!

IMG_7583

Full disclosure as always:  I’m working with Athenos to do a promotion of their feta products on the blog for the entire month of July.  Since I try to limit my dairy to 1 serving a day (although I sometimes creep up to 2) for health reasons, I prefer more flavorful cheeses such as feta and gorgonzola.  You get so much more flavor BANG than plain old Swiss or cheddar.

IMG_7580

The Change for the Feta month will feature lots of fun feta recipes made by yours truly (let’s see if I can top the Savory Pancakes recipe, which is my personal favorite).  And I’ll be doing an amazing giveaway each week.  Get your feta on!

On that note… I’m packing up my suitcase for a cross-the-East-coast driving extravaganza.  First stop:  Altoona, PA for my BFF Sarah’s wedding!

I’m a bridesmaid and here’s my dress!

IMG_7590

Isn’t it pretty?  I’d definitely wear it again!

So many potential discussion topics, so take your pick! Have you been in a bridal party before?  Was your outfit nice or hideous?  Do you love feta, too?  What’s your favorite cheese?

    Feta makes everything betta!!!!
Love this new challenge you’re tackling.
And I’ve been in 6 weddings so I’ve rocked 6 different bridesmaid dresses. I’m going to be honest – I’ve loved a few and a couple haven’t been my cup of tea. And being even more honest, I’ve never reworn a bridesmaid dress. But I do think I could wear the dress I have from my sister’s wedding in which I was the maid of honor (she actually let me give a lot of opinion when it came to picking the dress) – it was black, strapless, knee length with pockets and it was totally flattering on everyone. When I get married (one day) I will totally keep my experiences in mind when it comes to picking out bridesmaid dresses.

  • M June 30, 2010, 1:42 pm

i’m actually the maid of honor for a wedding this september – we still havent found our dresses yet! we’ve found some pretty cute ones but haven’t actually picked one yet! question – does the bride usually buy the dress or do the bridesmaids?? there seem to be differing opinions on this!

    • Shellybean June 30, 2010, 1:59 pm

The times I’ve been a Bridesmaid, I’ve purchased my dress.

    • caitlin June 30, 2010, 2:43 pm

      The bridesmaids pay!

      • MLT June 30, 2010, 2:46 pm

I’ve heard of both. I’ve also both paid and had the bride pay. But when asked, I always assume I’m paying unless I hear otherwise.

  • Freya @ Brit Chick Runs June 30, 2010, 1:43 pm

I’ve never been in a bridal party before 🙁 but then I’m 20 – I wouldn’t want to be married/my friends be married JSUT yet!
Goat’s cheese was always my favourite 🙂 I hate feta!
    GREAT looking wrap 🙂

  • Amanda June 30, 2010, 1:45 pm

I love Feta so this sounds like fun to me! How does your husband feel about this challenge now that he is doing away with dairy? Will you be preparing 2 seperate meals or just adding cheese to your servings?

    • caitlin June 30, 2010, 2:43 pm

It’s only two meals a week and will probably be lunches I eat without him. 🙂

  • Sarah for Real June 30, 2010, 1:50 pm

The only bridal party I was in was when I was very young, maybe 12? I was a “junior” bridesmaid, haha.

I let my bridesmaids choose their own dresses, as long as it was in dark brown. They all ended up choosing similar styles and it worked out really perfect! I think it’s best when you are working with so many different body types. Highly recommended 😉

  • Jenna June 30, 2010, 1:52 pm

Yayy FETA! I am feta obsessed. I could eat it by the spoonfuls. Gross, maybe. But true. I can’t wait to see what you cook up!

  • Erin June 30, 2010, 1:52 pm

I’ve been a bridesmaid in four weddings since graduating college. I got to wear the same dress for two of them though (yay for brides choosing the same colors). Of the other two, I only really disliked one. None were something I could wear outside of a wedding situation, though. Your friend made an excellent choice!

  • Beth @ Beth's Journey to Thin June 30, 2010, 1:52 pm

I looove feta cheese and am eating some on my arugula salad with blueberries as we speak!

Love the dress! I’m in a wedding in August and my dress is a similar color – very pretty!

  • Heather (Heather's Dish) June 30, 2010, 1:54 pm

i’ve never been in a bridal party before, but i’ve definitely seen some that were HORRIBLE! i love feta, always and forever 🙂

  • Kaitlin W. June 30, 2010, 1:54 pm

Caitlin! Love the blog (still). I’ve become a faithful reader/follower since last summer… And anyway, I’m originally from Altoona (actually Hollidaysburg, just south of Altoona)… It’s an “interesting” part of Pennsylvania. I’m sure you won’t be too shocked having lived in Pittsburgh for a few years. Have fun!!

    • caitlin June 30, 2010, 2:44 pm

Hahaha Altoona is “interesting” for sure! But I love it for some reason!

    • Katie @ Healthy Heddleston June 30, 2010, 3:12 pm

Kaitlin W. I know who you are!!

Caitlin, I grew up in Hollidaysburg/Altoona too and my sister graduated with Kaitlin W. Annnywayyyy, I haven’t been a BM or a MOH in any wedding yet since I was one of the first of my friends to get married and got married before my older sister… I’m super excited for the experience though and am also very curious as to who your bff Sarah is—we might know her! lol

      • Kaitlin W. June 30, 2010, 3:17 pm

HI KATIE!!! Hahaha… CaitlinHTP and I had a few classes together at Pitt, and then I heard about Operation Beautiful on the radio last year and now I’m hooked… Do you read Abby’s blog, too?

        • Katie @ Healthy Heddleston June 30, 2010, 3:21 pm

I’m so jealous you two actually KNOW eachother!! YES, I love abby’s blog and she’s got a real fan base going for her! I’m trying to get some loyal readers to mine as well… but LOVE reading HTP and abby (they are my favs!)

  • Jess June 30, 2010, 1:55 pm

Love the dress! So much so that I picked the same one to wear for my sister’s wedding last month:) We were all allowed to choose our own dresses in her color… watermelon. One word of warning: it wrinkled really easily, so try not to sit down too much before the ceremony if you can help it. We actually got dressed at the church and I was glad because after sitting in the limo to drive to the reception the dress was a wrinkled mess in the back. Hope you have a fun trip!

  • ActiveEggplant June 30, 2010, 1:55 pm

I’m in a wedding this weekend as well! I absolutely love my dress even though it’s not the original one we picked (long story – the “origianl” got stuck in a warehouse in CHINA so I had to pick a new dress 2 weeks before the wedding.) It’s a cocktail length dress so I’ll definitely be able to use it again.

As for cheeses – Feta is ridiculously awesome. But I think Havarti just might be my favorite!

  • Estela @ Weekly Bite June 30, 2010, 1:55 pm

I LOVE feta!! I put it on just about everything 🙂

Have a great time at the wedding!

  • Cynthia (It All Changes) June 30, 2010, 1:55 pm

I have never been a BM but I did try to pick pretty dresses like that so my BM could rewear them (and they all have 🙂 ).

I love strong cheeses because my dairy intake has to be very low due to a severe sensitivity and I can’t give it up. So I love FETA.

  • Julie @SavvyEats June 30, 2010, 1:56 pm

I haven’t been in a wedding party myself yet (I’m the first of my friends to get married!), but I hope the girls all liked their dresses… they all got to pick out their own dresses! My only requirement was that they be blue and knee-length.

  • Jolene (www.everydayfoodie.ca) June 30, 2010, 1:58 pm

I love feta, but goat cheese is my very favourite!

  • Shellybean June 30, 2010, 1:58 pm

Love the dress! Where did your bride find it? I’m currently on the search for wear-again-able dresses for my bridesmaids. 🙂

    • caitlin June 30, 2010, 2:44 pm

      David’s Bridal!

  • Katy T June 30, 2010, 1:58 pm

I’ve been pretty lucky in the bridesmaid department…the dresses were nice, although I’ve never been able to wear any of them a second time. C’est la vie. I love strong cheeses!

Question – Do you know who made the bridesmaid dress? I’m getting married next year and on the hunt for one my ‘maids will like. Thanks!

    • caitlin June 30, 2010, 2:45 pm

      David’s Bridal 🙂

  • sweetersalt June 30, 2010, 1:59 pm

I’m going to be in a wedding this summer and the bride plans on using a non-bridesmaid dress for the bridesmaids. I love this idea because it makes buying it easier (I can buy it online) and it is something we could all wear again without looking silly.

  • Ashley (whole-ier) June 30, 2010, 2:00 pm

the last wedding I was in the bride let us pick our dresses as long as they were black. It was wonderful. I have worn it 2 times since.

  • Jessica @ How Sweet June 30, 2010, 2:07 pm

    That dress is pretty!

My favorite cheese is gouda. Or gruyere. Or gorgonzola. Apparently I like the cheese that begins with ‘g.’

  • Lindsey June 30, 2010, 2:07 pm

I wore the EXACT same bridesmaid dress last weekend in a wedding except ours were dark purple! It’s super comfy (especially since you have to wear it all day) and it’s cute enough to wear again! Have fun!

PS: I could inhale feta. 🙂

  • Katheryn June 30, 2010, 2:11 pm

I’ve been in three weddings. My mom’s when I was 3. Cute dress – didn’t wear it again. My mom’s best friend wedding I was her flower girl. Beautiful dress – I never wore it again. My sister’s wedding. Another beautiful dress that I have worn a couple other times.

I love feta cheese. It is by far my favorite.

  • Kelly June 30, 2010, 2:14 pm

MMM I love feta!! Looking forward to all your posts about it 🙂

I’ve been a bridesmaid 3 times, and was lucky enough to wear the same dress to two of them (saving money!). It was a cute red tea-length dress from David’s. I have never worn it or the other dress again though.. They just scream “bridesmaid” to me!

  • Kaz June 30, 2010, 2:15 pm

I love cheese! My favorites are the pungent ones, but I also have a soft spot for cream cheese. Too bad I can’t eat dairy. 😀

I’ve never been in a bridal party, but your dress is gorgeous!

  • Anne @ the doctor takes a wife June 30, 2010, 2:19 pm

I love feta, but I go in spurts with it… I can’t take too much for too long.

I”ve been in 3 weddings, and I’m in 4 just this summer!! with 2 more on the books for July…

  • Jess June 30, 2010, 2:22 pm

I’ve been in a few weddings, but for the most recent I had a bright red dress. It was cute for the wedding but I have don’t really have ocassions to wear it. It’s been collecting dust in my closet for the past few years.

I love feta but my favorite cheese is brie. I could eat it every day. MMMMM.

  • Laura @ Backstage Pass to Health & Happiness June 30, 2010, 2:22 pm

I haven’t had feta cheese in forever, I should pick some up 🙂 We are a very low-cheese household and I’m the only one who consumes it. I only have a few servings per week, so a small package of feta would be great (no waste!).
Love the bridesmaid gown! I was in two weddings this year and was pleased by the versatility of the dresses I had to buy. One is purple and one is black, but both are cocktail length and cute 🙂

  • Jackie June 30, 2010, 2:23 pm

I’m wearing the same dress in my sister’s wedding this August. What a coincidence! It’s a great dress.

  • Krystina June 30, 2010, 2:31 pm

Mm, the lulu wrap is what I’d order, too! I like the dress a lot.

  • Maria June 30, 2010, 2:34 pm

I am so so jealous of your bridesmaid dress! Short dresses are so much easier to wear again and in addition, yours is in a pretty cut and color. What a good BFF you have 🙂

I’ve had to wear a floor length Lilac colored dress (read: Easter Egg) and its been sitting in my closet for over a year now, waiting to be donated.

Now that I’m a bride, I’m giving my bridesmaids free range of what they want. I’ll let them choose the color (I’m sure the Bridezillas would gasp at that one) and the cut, shoes, jewelry, etc. They all chose gray though to stick with my theme and its a color you can easily wear again.

  • Gavi @ GaviGetsGoing! June 30, 2010, 2:39 pm

I LOVE the dress-it’s so beautiful, and such a lovely color! I am going to a wedding next weekend and I’m so excited! Oh, and I really like fat free cheese, especially feta and mozzarella. Your new deli looks fabulous! I can’t wait to read your reviews of Athenos cheese!

  • Stephanie June 30, 2010, 2:40 pm

I’ve been a bridesmaid 4 times. All hideous dresses. I would never wear them again, so I donated most of them thrift stores/consignment shops. One I actually threw away at the airport because it was too big for my suit case and I really didn’t like it enough to pay the money to have an extra carry on. Being a bridesmaid is so much fun, but when am I ever going to have a use for a floor length turquoise gown with a giant bow? (I seriously had to wear that).

    • caitlin June 30, 2010, 2:45 pm

      Hahah love the airport story!

  • MLT June 30, 2010, 2:45 pm

Love that dress, it’s so cute! And it looks like “you”. I’ve never worn a bridesmaid dress again, but I’ve also never had to wear sonething I thought was hideous (just not my style, or too bridesmaidy looking). So, all-in-all, that’s not too bad. 🙂

  • Miriam June 30, 2010, 2:46 pm

My favorite cheese is gorgonzola. I actually like that you only need a little bit for an avalanche of flavor!! I like feta, boconccini, labneh, Halloumi (I like foreign cheeses!), goat cheese… Imagine I use to hate blue and goat cheese!!

I never been a bridesmaids… None of my friend got married yet (and i am a little older than you) am I not married either… I guess it will all begins at the same time!

  • Joey June 30, 2010, 2:47 pm

I love feta… I love most cheese, though! 🙂 That dress is so pretty… I have been in a few weddings and the dresses were ok – even pretty – but nothing I could really wear again.

  • Franziska (justalittlechocolate.com) June 30, 2010, 2:48 pm

First, I have only been a bridesmaid once for my now sister in law – and I have worn the dress again – score! I love feta and full flavored and savory cheeses – I tell my nutrition clients all the time that a full flavored cheese goes a long way flavor wise so you often eat less. Blue cheese, gorgenzola are 2 of my other faves.

  • allison @ livingoneday June 30, 2010, 2:48 pm

i’ve been a flower girl (when i was little), and a bridesmaid in 2 different weddings. my cousin had us wear olive green floor length gowns which were actually very pretty, but totally impractical. my sister has us were purple jcrew dresses which i would LOVE to wear again, but unfortunately they are still a little “bridal” (they are jcrew bridal). yours looks lovely!

i LOVE FETA. after spending a summer in greece and literally eating nothing but feta, i absolutely adore it!

  • Bethanie June 30, 2010, 2:51 pm

I’ve been a flower girl once, a bridesmaid twice, and a maid of honor once. I never wore either of my bridesmaid dresses again (both different pink and shiny shiny satin, plus one was a floor length ball-gown) but my maid of honor dress was just a simple sundress that I got to pick out (it was a very small garden wedding) and I’ve worn that since.

I must know – since I will be a bride myself soon and need to pick bridesmaid dresses – what designer/style is that? I need to check it out!

  • Jen June 30, 2010, 2:53 pm

I love feta! I buy it in Athenos in bulk!

I’ve been in four wedding and liked most of the dresses- although I’ve never found a reason to wear them again. And now I’m many sizes smaller so I donated them instead to a charity that give them away from students to wear to prom.

When I got married I gave my girls the choice- all the same dress or all different dresses. The only requirements were that the dress should be black and floor length. They chose to pick their own styles and everyone loved their dress and everyone had something on that looked good for their figure.

    Have a great time!

  • Rachel June 30, 2010, 2:55 pm

Never been in a bridal party before. I’m pretty sure the first bridal party I will be will be when I’m the bride!! I’m the only one of my close friends who is even in a relationship right now.

I love love love feta (and the name of this post)

  • Kristin June 30, 2010, 2:55 pm

have fun at the wedding. that dress actually looks like a nice dress for a bridesmaid! i like that its short! i love feta cheese! i prefer the presidente fat free variety, but i am still interested in your athenos recipes!

  • Amanda June 30, 2010, 2:57 pm

I love feta, I’m excited to see your recipes!

  • Amanda June 30, 2010, 3:00 pm

Love that dress! I’ve never been in a bridal party BUT my best friend got engaged last night so I will be!!! 🙂 I’m hoping the dress is knee length so that it will be more re-wearable. But more than anything, I’m just excited to be part of her day!!

Here’s an awesome feta recipe that I make quite often (actually sub in barley for the cous cous .. or you could use quinoa/rice). You could obviously sub out the chicken for chickpeas/white beans/tofu too!

You must check out Common Market in South End…it’s a really cute little area and they used to sell my Ota.bars there last summer when I was making them. If you like Laurel, you’ll definitely like CM! The original CM is in Plaza Midwood..tons of character at that location!

  • Emily @ For Sweets Sake June 30, 2010, 3:02 pm

I’m going to Altoona PA this weekend! and I’m going up for my friend’s wedding next weekend! This will be the 6th wedding I’ve been a maid of honor or bridesmaid in. I’m excited I finally get to have my own wedding though 🙂 and my bridesmaids are wearing the same style dress as yours!

  • Whitney dargle June 30, 2010, 3:04 pm

I JUST walked in the door from a quick shopping trip and read your post– I just bought the Athenos tomato and basil feta! I could put feta on anything! Feta stuffed chicken=yum! Maybe you could do feta stuffed tofu! Eeeee it’s still a good recipe!

  • Kelly June 30, 2010, 3:10 pm

That is a very pretty bridesmaid dress!

  • Mama Pea June 30, 2010, 3:13 pm

The LULU! You thought of us, right? The funny thing is, she’d LOVE that sandwich.

You will be gorgeous in that blue!

  • Erin June 30, 2010, 3:14 pm

mmm…I LOVE feta!!! I’m really excited to see your recipes!
I’ve been a bridesmaid in a couple of weddings, and I recently decided to donate my old bridesmaid dresses to the Cinderella project, which provides cheap or no-cost prom dresses to area high school girls. I’m certainly not going to wear them again (although I agree that you could wear yours again!) and it is such a good cause. I did ask my friends’ (the brides) permission first, though 😉

  • kirsten June 30, 2010, 3:17 pm

That is a really cute Bridesmaids dress! I love Feta, I eat it almost daily! I can’t wait to see your recipes this month! (and the giveaways!!) Have a fun and safe road trip 🙂

  • Heather June 30, 2010, 3:24 pm

I love that dress, it’s so pretty, and the color is awesome!

I’ve been in 3 weddings before and all of the dresses were pretty good, minus one that was a funky color.

And I love Feta! My cheese tastes have evolved so much more over the years…when I was little, if it smelled I wouldn’t go near it! Now I love different cheeses, although I still can’t really get on board with Bleu Cheese.

  • Tracey @ TropicalHappiness June 30, 2010, 3:27 pm

    That’s a pretty dress… you’ll look great in it. I’ve been a bridesmaid a couple of times.

In a recent wedding, we had fire-engine-slightly-flourescent-red colored dresses. The bride thought they would be a deeper red, but when they arrived, she was a bit shocked to see how bright they were. They were a shade away from orange, rather than the deep, gorgeous red she pictured. However, she had 7 bridesmaids and we all received our dresses by this time so there wasn’t much she could do. It took her about a day to get used to the color, and then she just went with the flow of things! We were BRIGHT, to say the least, but it all turned out just fine. The worst part was we had to get matching shoes and we had to dye them the exact color of the dress. So now I have a dress AND matching shoes that I’ll never wear again!

For my wedding, I picked out a long black dress for my bridesmaids. It was very elegant, complimented my dress and they will all DEFINITELY wear it again! My bridesmaids were calling me to ask about whether they had to wear matching shoes (ummm, no… their dresses were long, and I figured they didn’t want to buy a pair of black shoes when they probably already had perfectly good ones in their closets). I told them to wear what they wanted, and that if someone was looking at their feet instead of me in my gown, then I did something wrong! LOL! They even called me to ask about what color they should get their toenails painted. I had to tell them that no matter how much they pushed and prodded, I wasn’t going to be a bridezilla! LOL!!!!

    • caitlin June 30, 2010, 10:26 pm

Sarah is the best non-bridezilla ever. 🙂 You are a good friend!

  • Morgan @ Healthy Happy Place June 30, 2010, 3:29 pm

I’m in a wedding this weekend, too, and we have the same bridesmaid dresses!! only ours are strapless and green.

  • Marisa June 30, 2010, 3:34 pm

That dress is from David’s- isn’t it?…and is that the color pool?? Just wore that dress to my SIL wedding last September and that was her color along with Truffle (dk Brown). We just had them long….so comfy and so flattering, the neckline is my favorite.

BTW- this is my first time commenting. Been reading SBR/HTP FOREVER….I just saw that dress and I loved it so much I had to say something 🙂 I think you’re great and can’t wait to read Operation Beautiful!!

    • caitlin June 30, 2010, 10:27 pm

Hahah yes and yes! Thank you so much for being such a long term reader!

  • Tracey @ I'm Not Superhuman June 30, 2010, 3:35 pm

I love feta. It’s hands-down my favorite cheese for salads. I also love how long it lasts in the fridge.

  • Shanna June 30, 2010, 3:38 pm

I’m obsessed with Feta! Can’t wait to see all the creations you come up with this month! Also, have the best time in Altoona this weekend! I went to Penn State and have driven through there a million times, it’s adorable 🙂

  • Lauren (Clean Eats in the Dirty South) June 30, 2010, 3:39 pm

i was a flower girl in my aunt’s wedding ten years ago. the only thing i remember was running to the bathroom as soon as my makeup had been professionally done….and wiping off all of my eyeshadow and lipstick.

  • Erica June 30, 2010, 3:45 pm

    Hi Caitlin!
I am a huge fan of your blog and from Altoona as well! Also a Pitt alumni- maybe I had a class or two with you and didn’t even know it! Is your friend’s wedding this weekend or next? I’m actually getting married next Saturday, July 10. Maybe I will see you out and about in lovely atown this week haha! Just wanted to let you know that your blog is so inspirational to me and has really encouraged me to adopt more healthy habits. So thank you!

    • caitlin June 30, 2010, 10:27 pm

YAY altoona! Maybe we’ll run into each other!

  • Leah @ L4L June 30, 2010, 3:45 pm

I’ve been a bridesmaid once. I didn’t care for the dress really.
I was set to be an MOH once too but the bride was being a b!tch and having hissy fits and I hated the dress and was broke and couldn’t fly to TX to that didn’t happen, thank god.
I didn’t have any bridesmaids at my wedding and that was a relief.

I don’t care for feta really. I love pepperjack and sharp cheddars.

  • Amber K @ sparkpeople June 30, 2010, 3:46 pm

I try and stay away from cheese as it upsets my stomach.

I have never gotten to be a bridal party.

But more importantly, that wrap looks SOOO good! I’m drooling….

  • Katherine June 30, 2010, 3:51 pm

I love cheese so much and I love all kinds although I like to try and use mostly Goat and other ‘healthier’ cheese. I love feta on pasta instead of parm. Brie is my all time favorite though.

I am going to be in a wedding for the first time (as an adult) next year. My best friend from college is getting married. She already announced that there will be no matching dresses. She is from Bangladesh and he is from Brazil so we can wear any type of dress we want OR a sari! I’m super excited that we can pick whatever we want. I’m either going to wear a bright color (since the bride is wearing orange) or a sari… I haven’t decided yet.

We won’t be a super formal bridal party but we are going to be throwing the bachloette party, giving toasts, and helping her out the day of. I can’t wait!

  • Lindsay June 30, 2010, 3:58 pm

I have only been to one wedding, but the funny thing is I am going to a wedding next week and I just found the most beautiful dress to wear and it looks a bit like your dress(shape wise), but the colors are different and I am so excited as it is for the wedding on my best friends older brother, who was like my brother when we were all growin up!! I cant believe I am old enough to have friends getting married!! 🙂

Have Fun traveling the east coast!! 🙂

I’m not a huge feta fan, but I certainly love me some gorgonzola!

I am in a wedding for the first time this September. The bride did NOT pick out dresses even remotely as nice as the one you will be wearing. They are hot pink and awful. It also doesn’t help I will be almost 6 months pregnant when wearing the dress. LOL

  • Liz June 30, 2010, 4:18 pm

I LOVE feta! I like to make a frittata with that and grated zucchini. It is so, so good and also good for you!

And that bridesmaid dress is adorable. For once, one that can be used again! lol

  • Rachel June 30, 2010, 4:22 pm

Feta is awesome! I think super strong cheeses like blue or gorgonzola are my favourite, though.

I was a flower girl when I was 5. I got to pick the colour of the bridesmaids’ dresses (and mine). Therefore, obviously, we were all in pale pink. 😛

  • Heather @ Side of Sneakers June 30, 2010, 4:24 pm

I’ve been a bridesmaid 5 times. While I can’t say any of the dresses were very attractive, I got lucky and was able to avoid complete hideous-ness- no ruffles or poofs 😉

  • Megan @ Healthy Hoggin June 30, 2010, 4:28 pm

I prefer more flavorful cheeses, too! I’m definitely a feta and goat cheese kinda girl. 😉

I was in a wedding party a few years ago, where I wore a bridesmaid dress I would NEVER wear again! But this year, I’m in TWO weddings, and both of the brides have good taste! Whew!

  • Lindsey June 30, 2010, 4:30 pm

My friend told me that feta tastes like body odor smells, and that’s kept me from trying it, lol. But to be fair, I just recently tried hummus (it had pine nuts in it, yum!) so maybe I need to give this a shot.

  • Alexis June 30, 2010, 4:35 pm

I love feta – looking forward to the posts 🙂

I’m a bridesmaid in a wedding in August and we’re wearing the same dress, just in purple! I love it, it’s so comfy and definitely rewearable!

  • Miranda @ MirandasJeans June 30, 2010, 4:35 pm

I love feta in small amounts. I used to love cheese to an unhealthy point. However now I don’t eat much cheese. When I do I love feta and goat cheese the most. Perferably plan au natural flavor.

  • M June 30, 2010, 4:37 pm

I love feta, but to be honest tried Athenos and HATE the stuff!I have actually found some delish locally made stuff at farmer’s market (so one doesn’t have to buy the trucked all over America feta-ugh!)

  • M June 30, 2010, 4:49 pm

When bloggers say “they are working with” a company, does that mean they are being paid money or do they just get free products? Is Athenos paying you?
Thanks for the full disclosure-I always enjoy your frank honesty on this blog(so refreshing!)

    • caitlin June 30, 2010, 10:29 pm

Thanks 🙂 This is a compensated promotion but companies also just do samples sometimes.

      • M June 30, 2010, 10:51 pm

        Thanks Caitlin!

Appreciate the info and have a great wedding “tour”!

        Cheers!!

  • Mary @ What's Cookin' with Mary June 30, 2010, 4:55 pm

You’re right! That wrap looks SO good!!

I’ve never been in a wedding party and I hope I never have to be ;P Party pooper, I know… hahaha What can I say, just not my thing.

  • Catherine June 30, 2010, 4:57 pm

I’m so glad you got the Lulu wrap, when I saw it on the menu in that picture I was like “ooooh that sounds good!” It looked delicious!

I love cheese, almost any kind of cheese, but I’m relatively newer to feta. I can’t wait to see your recipes!

  • Amanda @ Eat to Live, Live to Run June 30, 2010, 5:00 pm

The wrap looks divine. The dress is so cute. 🙂

  • Stacey @ Tipping the (Kitchen!) Scales June 30, 2010, 5:12 pm

All cheese is amazing and Feta rocks! When I was looking at the menu of the sandwich sandwich shop I was thinking that I would have ordered the Lulu and that’s what you got! It mosst certainly does look delicious.

  • Mindy June 30, 2010, 5:16 pm

Have fun at the wedding!!! That dress is adorable! The last wedding party I was in was in 2006 and it was one of my friends I’ve known since were about 4. It was a blast! The dress was definitely not my style, but it was pretty.

I am definitely a cheese fan – probably the main reason I can’t commit to going vegan (I know there are subs, but it’s just not the same!). I definitely agree with you, I like the flavorful kinds. I’m on a blue cheese kick right now.

  • Kimberley June 30, 2010, 5:20 pm

Oooh, I’m so excited to hear about a place with veg options! Charlotte is seriously lacking in that department, as you might have already figured out. 🙂

  • Monique@She's Going The Distance June 30, 2010, 5:28 pm

THAT is an amazing dress 🙂 what good taste your friends have!!!

  • Rebecca June 30, 2010, 5:41 pm

That wrap looks awesome! I love feta cheese. I’ve been in three weddings and I only wanted to keep the dress for one of them!

  • Julia @ www.britbride.com June 30, 2010, 5:43 pm

    Ha. Adore that title!

I think you now my answer to your wedding question, although I have actually been a bridesmaid 10 times!!

Altoona, PA!!! I grew up about 20 miles from there!

  • Kellie June 30, 2010, 5:45 pm

I was in a wedding when I was 6mos pregnant and the dress was pink. I looked like a giant piece of bubble gum.

  • lisa June 30, 2010, 5:46 pm

I love feta too! My other fave is goat cheese. Or Havarti….mmmm…

  • Hillary [Nutrition Nut on the Run] June 30, 2010, 5:51 pm

    Wow, that dress looks gorgeous!!

    Favorite cheese? CHEVRE!

  • Lisa (bakebikeblog) June 30, 2010, 6:00 pm

Wow – what great veggie options! Just goes to show that you can still have interesting combos on the menu without meat…..cafes and restaurants take note!!!

  • Jenny June 30, 2010, 6:39 pm

That is a pretty dress! I want to be in a bridal party, but with beautiful dressses… I hear that’s hard to do!

  • Samantha @ Health, Happiness & Skinny Jeans June 30, 2010, 6:41 pm

    That wrap looked so yummy!

I am going to be a bridesmaid for the first time in a few weeks and I can’t wait!

  • Allison K June 30, 2010, 6:47 pm

MY college roomate is from Altoona PA!!

  • Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin June 30, 2010, 7:18 pm

That’s such a cute bridesmaid dress! It’ll be so easy to get a lot of wear out of it.

My favourite cheese is goat cheese. But I love feta too. I can’t wait to see all the recipes you post!

  • Jessica @ The Process of Healing June 30, 2010, 7:22 pm

My favorite cheese is sharp white cheddar… more bang for your buck!

  • Camille June 30, 2010, 7:41 pm

    Pretty dress!
My sister and I were both the maids of honor when my Mom got married 2 years ago. So much fun! Plus I have been a flower girl like, 5 times 🙂

  • Heather June 30, 2010, 7:53 pm

when I got married my BM’s wore the exact same color dress except it was long and strapless!love it! my colors were brown and that blue.

  • Katie @ peacebeme June 30, 2010, 7:56 pm

My favorite cheese is Havarti! so creamy. I am not eating dairy anymore so I am going to miss it, even though I didnt have it that often because it is pricey.

  • Kaye June 30, 2010, 9:16 pm

Mmm…goat cheese is my go to cheese right now, SO flavorful!
I was in my friend Teresa’s wedding, I wasn’t the maid of honor, BUT she let me pick the dresses! They were beautiful!

  • Kelly June 30, 2010, 9:49 pm

haha, what a clever name for a challenge. My favorite cheese IS feta so I am excited to see all the great things you do with it. Glad to see you’re settling in well to your new place. What an exciting time in your life!

  • Jess @ NZ Girl Runs June 30, 2010, 9:55 pm

Since I am loctose intolerant, goats milk feta is my only option (although because it is expensive I sometimes risk it and have cows milk). Feta is just soooo delish and I like it in a salad, but maybe your recipes will inspire me to try it other ways…

  • Annie@stronghealthyfit June 30, 2010, 10:18 pm

I love feta, and most cheeses for that matter! I’m excited to see what recipes you’ll come up with for this promo. I have been in two weddings- one I got to pick my dress, the other’s dress wasn’t bad, but I didn’t wear it again.

  • Faith @ LovelyAsCharged June 30, 2010, 10:28 pm

I do the same thing – I actually don’t eat dairy every day, but when I do, I try to keep it to one serving, and I’d rather have something with BOLD flavor, like feta or a smoked cheese (my absolute favorite!). That is a gorgeous dress, btw – great taste!

  • BroccoliHut June 30, 2010, 10:29 pm

Lovely dress! I was in both of my sisters’ weddings, and both dresses were pretty–but I *might* have had a say in which ones were chosen 🙂

  • Diana June 30, 2010, 11:24 pm

omg! i think i wore that exact same bridesmaids dress at my friend’s key west wedding earlier this year! same color and everything! Here’s a photo: http://thechiclife.com/2010/03/clean-food-tuscan-bean-soup.html – is it the same?! I think mine may have been a bit more green-ish? lol

    • caitlin July 1, 2010, 8:34 am

awww its close. mine doesnt have that cool neckline!

  • Mrs. Muffins July 1, 2010, 1:05 am

I read this post earlier and I’ve been thinking about this wrap all day, I’m going to have to make an at-home version… or come to Charlotte, hee hee!
    xx

  • Wei-Wei July 1, 2010, 1:37 am

Feta is awesome! I definitely agree with you on eating more flavourful cheeses – that way you can actually use less and save calories (and money!) 😉 I don’t know what my favourite cheese is, actually… I haven’t tried many! 😛

  • Mish@EatingJourney July 1, 2010, 8:44 am

Been in three weddings. First was awful and homemade with hot glue gunned on ‘roses’. Second was good, but I lost 100lbs. Third I wore again.

  • Annie July 1, 2010, 9:39 am

I’ve been a bridesmaid once. The dress was ok, not amazing, but looked alright. However, I’d just returned from 6 months studying abroad in the UK and had put on a few pounds. The dress fit, but was bordering on tight. 12 hours in it and I was ready to get out of it. I was sharing a room with the groom’s sister. At the end of the evening (late), we returned to the room ready to crash. Except, I couldn’t get the zipper to move more than one inch. Eventually, the groom’s mother had to be called in; she had to cut me out of the dress. Awesome/mortifying.

  • Marissa July 1, 2010, 9:53 am

I just bought Athenos feta cheese at the grocery store for the first time this week! I love it! I’m addicted. :]

  • Krista July 1, 2010, 9:54 am

Holy coincidence! I just bought that *exact* cheese last night for the first time! I had a coupon and figured “why not?” I’ll be trying it later on when I eat lunch!

  • Sami July 1, 2010, 11:24 am

HEY! You’re going to be in Altoona?!? For how long? 🙂 That’s not too far from me! Maybe we could do a blogger meet up with the other girls who know each other from Hollidaysburg?? That would be a blast. I’ve always wanted to meet you!

I was the MOH in my best friend’s wedding last May and she actually chose some really cute dresses! Her colors were bright pink & orange! Very tropical and summery!

That cheese looks yummy! I’m definitely a cheese fan. I loveeee Sonoma Jack’s light pepperjack & light swiss cheeses! I like STRONG flavors in my cheese 🙂

    • Caitlin July 2, 2010, 9:42 am

Aww I wish I could but I’ll be super busy with wedding stuff 🙁

  • Stephanie July 1, 2010, 12:31 pm

Haha!! I’m in my sister’s wedding this coming October…wearing that EXACT same dress, same color! For real!! I love that dress. I think it’s so pretty and I will definitely wear it again!!

I also am OBSESSED with feta cheese. I actually just picked up that Tomato & Basil feta yesterday. I’m excited to try it.

  • Lacey @ Lake Life July 1, 2010, 6:30 pm

I’m soo excited about your “Change for the Feta” month. I like Feta but prefer goat cheese and (as a guilty pleasure) brie.

  • Kristin July 1, 2010, 9:19 pm

Wow! A friend of mine got married two weeks ago and they had the EXACT same bridesmaid dresses! Small world!

  • Joyce July 16, 2010, 1:09 pm

I always keep feta in the fridge. It’s an easy and way to add lots of flavor without a lot of fat and calories. Uh, is it too late for the Athenos giveaway?

Athenos is the ONLY feta cheese I eat – love all their flavors. YUM, YUM!
