Impromptu night out!

 IMG_4142

It all started with an innocent shopping trip… My mom gave me some cash for my birthday, and I really wanted to buy some summer clothes with the money.  The Husband accompanied me to Old Navy, and we stopped off at Starbucks for a coffee before we started.  The Husband is really getting turned off to milk all the sudden, so we got soy lattes.  Pretty good – I couldn’t tell a difference!

IMG_4134

After shopping, we decided to grab a beer.  Downtown Orlando has such a great happy-hour scene.  Orlando is so much MORE than Disney and International Drive.  If you ever visit my lovely town, please explore Thornton Park (where we were tonight) and Winter Park (another cool area).

IMG_4140

We explored for a while…

IMG_4141

And then settled on our old favorite, Dexter’s.

IMG_4143

Kids, I wish I had a responsible explanation for what happened next, but I really don’t.  I just love BEER!  I had a wheat beer and two IPAs.

Floor?

(Obviously, I was NOT the driver!)

We had some food to steady us.  The Husband and I split the grilled veggie sandwich to save some cash.  The Husband asked that we skip the cheese (apparently, he’s off of cheese right now, too!), and I obliged.

We have become one of those couples who sit in virtual silence playing on our iPhones.  Hah!  Just kidding.  Well… not really.  ;)  We spent most of the time looking for future homes-for-rent on Craigslist.  We’re moving to Charlotte in 60 days! I am getting so excited for a change.

IMG_4157

After dinner + drinks, we decided to walk off some of our beer by walking Downtown.

IMG_4176

I love the old arts and crafts-style homes!  My singular focus is finding a similar home when we move to Charlotte.  I want to rent a single-family home with a backyard in a walkable neighborhood.  The Husband wants a swanky apartment in happenin’ part of town.  I’m sure we can find a middle ground.  Right?!

Some of my Orlando favorites:

Houses + heel clicks!

Oh my!  (BFF Sarah, that was for you!)

A wild and crazy night in Caitlin + Husband land.   Now we’re going to watch DVR-ed golf and eat peanut butter and banana sandwiches.  Sounds like a good night to me!

Looks like a fun night! I am ready for a change too, just trying to decide where to move!

  • Kelly April 30, 2010, 9:20 pm

Lol you guys crack me up. Next time I’m in Orlando I promise to visit all the cool stuff you always go to. I am always shocked but how many yummy looking restaurants there are there since I have always eaten over priced park food. Obviously I need to rent a car!

  • Jenny April 30, 2010, 9:21 pm

Y’all are too cute! I love the sound of music dancing in the streets!

  • Evan Thomas April 30, 2010, 9:26 pm

Aww, I’d definitely be getting nostalgic if I were moving, too. I’ve never spent more than a week in Florida but it’s always a pleasant place.

  • Stacey April 30, 2010, 9:28 pm

A few of my friends live in a house near where you were (I think, anyway! haha). Right near Lake Lawsona. It’s SO pretty there! I love the houses and the cobblestone streets… and the peacocks roaming around! I was really surprised when I visited for the first time. I live in South Florida, but I was definitely one of those people who had no idea about anything in Orlando besides Disney.

  • Heather (runningwithsass.com) April 30, 2010, 9:31 pm

OMG my husband and I totally do the sitting in silence and playing on the iphones thing lol!

I love unexpected night’s out! There is something about a date or fun night out that is extra special when it isn’t planned!

  • Victoria April 30, 2010, 9:35 pm

Oh man, the husband and I totally do the iPhone thing, especially at restaurants. Also, we just sold our house and we plotting our next move too!

  • Julie @ Peanut Butter Fingers April 30, 2010, 9:39 pm

i walk by those houses ALL the time w/ my dog! i love the third one & think they should let me live there (for free 😉 ).

  • Camille April 30, 2010, 9:40 pm

Looks like you guys had a great time!

  • nancy April 30, 2010, 9:42 pm

I love it when you post pictures of Orlando. I grew up there and you frequently make me a little bit homesick. Thornton Park is right by the middle school I attended and those houses you showed tonight are just blocks away from where my father grew up. My husband proposed to me on Park Avenue in Winter Park. I’m going to miss those pictures when you move. You always bring back good memories for me.

    • Caitlin April 30, 2010, 9:52 pm

      aww how cute 🙂

  • Anna April 30, 2010, 9:42 pm

Will you guys adopt me? I’ll move to Charlotte with you and we can drink beer and go for walks in cute neighborhoods. Sweet, thanks.

    • Caitlin April 30, 2010, 9:52 pm

      yes we will adopt you.

      • Anna April 30, 2010, 9:54 pm

Excellent. I’ll have my lawyer send the papers over.

  • Jessica @ The Process of Healing April 30, 2010, 9:43 pm

    Sounds like an awesome night!!!
I had a similar situation with wine tonight.. oh well. You only live once, right? Right.

  • Kath April 30, 2010, 9:51 pm

I’m surprised that third beer didn’t fall off the railing! Mine would have.

And I LOVE those bungalows!!! We’re having a similar debate about CharlottesVILLE. I want loft. He wants house!

  • Gretchen April 30, 2010, 9:51 pm

Haha, y’all are cute and spontaneity is great. And I like how your shirts were basically the same color 🙂

  • katherine April 30, 2010, 9:51 pm

Sounds pretty much like the perfect night to me too! The Huz and I totally sit in silence on our iphones. It’s mortifying, but far too fun to stop.

  • Lisa @ bakebikeblog April 30, 2010, 9:55 pm

hahaha what fun!! Gotta love those impromptu nights!!

  • Jenna April 30, 2010, 9:56 pm

That’s such a great Idea leaving notes in menus! I’m gonna do thatnext time;)

  • Jenna April 30, 2010, 9:57 pm

That would be even better if you saw the person open the menu with the note in it to see their reaction!!

  • Erin (Travel, Eat, Repeat) April 30, 2010, 10:03 pm

I love when you do something ridiculous in the middle of the street–like heel clicks–and then realize someone is watching you. Story of my life. 😉

  • Amy April 30, 2010, 10:10 pm

I like all the houses, but I LOVE that moss green one! We’ve been living overseas with the military for 5 years now and both my husband and I are anxious to get back to the states and become home owners. Someday… 🙂

  • Marisa (Loser for Life) April 30, 2010, 10:17 pm

Haha! Good for you, Caitlin! Life is meant to be fun!

  • Hillary [Nutrition Nut on the Run] April 30, 2010, 10:18 pm

I love soy lattes – I had an iced one myself today! Sounds like a fun evening. Hope you had some luck shoppin’ : )

  • Lisa April 30, 2010, 10:20 pm

DVR-ed golf??? I wonder if your hubby and my BF are related. 😉

  • Mary April 30, 2010, 10:31 pm

You and the hus are so so sweet 🙂 You’ll Love Charlotte 🙂 I <3 NC. There's a good racing and running scene (and biking) here too. We race just about all year long!

  • Tonyne @ The Unlikely Success Story April 30, 2010, 10:32 pm

Sounds like a fantastic night to me! 🙂

  • Mary April 30, 2010, 10:32 pm

You and the hus are so so sweet 🙂 You’ll love Charlotte! There’s an awesome running / Biking scene here and lots of good races all year long.

  • Julia April 30, 2010, 10:41 pm

I switched from nonfat milk to soy in my lattes a few months ago and discovered that I like the soy version better (not to mention my body seems to handle it better too! It almost seems like it has an extra dimension of flavor! Maybe because they use vanilla soy milk?

  • Amber K @ sparkpeople April 30, 2010, 10:45 pm

Fun night! Minus the beer though, how can people drink this stuff? Must be those same silly people that like coffee. I can’t handle either! Blech… =)

  • Rebecca @ How the Cookie's Crumble April 30, 2010, 10:48 pm

Good for you for having 3 beers! It’s Friday! Cheers!

  • Diana @ frontyardfoodie April 30, 2010, 10:56 pm

I love those sort of evenings. Always a good time!

  • *Andrea* April 30, 2010, 11:02 pm

your so pretty in this first photo!! 🙂 fun evening. brews and fries are needed on weekends hehe

  • Jessica @ How Sweet It Is April 30, 2010, 11:30 pm

Some of my favorite date nights happen like that – we just go shopping and end up at happy hour. 🙂

  • Jessie April 30, 2010, 11:39 pm

Aww, I miss Winter Park (I lived there and Oviedo, which I mean, come on they are basically beside each other). Even though I hate Florida heat (Florida girl from birth till I left for college), I had some really fun times those two years. It was also nice to be the less than two hours away from St. Augustine, and my parents and friends. Now I live in KY, 14 hours away. I’m glad you guys enjoyed your impromptu date night!

  • Angharad April 30, 2010, 11:45 pm

I love impromptu drinking sessions with the husband-so much fun! Sharing food as well is such a win when you actually remember/are sensible enough to do it! Fun times!

  • Kellie@obsessivelyhealthy April 30, 2010, 11:50 pm

First of all Florida looks so green and pretty. I am jealous. We have the beach, but not all the green. As eating in silence, my husband and I do that at restaraunts. I think it is funny because you can tell most of the married couples in there because they are the ones not talking.

  • Susan @ Journey for Health May 1, 2010, 12:21 am

Those Craftsman homes are gorgeous! The third in the pics is my favorite. Glad to see you got to have an evening of fun 🙂 I know you work so hard!

  • Nicci May 1, 2010, 12:38 am

Iphones are addicting sometimes. Boyfriend and I sit in sielnce on couch playing on our phones or sometimes at restaurants. We try to keep them in pockets/purse when dinning out. lol Gotta love Old Navy and the cute/inexpensive clothes.

  • Natalie @ Keep It Sassy May 1, 2010, 12:50 am

That sandwich looks delish! And those houses are SO cute. I seriously can’t wait until I get to have a grown-up house that I can paint and decorate. I guess I should probably finish college first though? haha!

  • Michelle @ Give Me the Almond Butter May 1, 2010, 12:52 am

I love those homes. They are just beautiful and elegant. That is definitely the type of house I would like to live in in a few years.

  • Lorin May 1, 2010, 1:05 am

I really liked that quote you put on the sticky note! I love looking up quotes just for fun, theres a website called thinkexist.com and it has a ton!

  • Christie May 1, 2010, 1:35 am

YAY for another future Charlotte blogger! I’m smelling a July blogger meet-up!

  • Ashley May 1, 2010, 1:50 am

NoDa has that somewhat “swanky” styled lofts that are really fun, which is where we lived for all 3 years. I think like 60% or MORE of the people that live there have dogs. The neighborhood is full of character and is ALL bungalow type homes. I definitely have some suggestions…we need to chat at some point! Sometimes 3 beers just happen..live it up girl. Lookin good!

  • Marina May 1, 2010, 1:53 am

Those unplanned evenings are the best 🙂
    Houses look beautiful!

  • Freya @ Brit Chick Runs May 1, 2010, 3:22 am

That looks like such a fun day!! Especially the PB and banana sandwich 😛
I have to say, I’m with the husband on the house front…swanky apartment all the way!

  • Julia @ British Bride May 1, 2010, 6:07 am

Loving this post – your fun personality really shines through. Loving house number 3 – that is beautiful. I dont know if it is my english-ness shining through, but these houses remind me of Dawson’s Creek…

  • Julia @ British Bride May 1, 2010, 6:08 am

p.s…. you two are such a cute couple in your matching tops!!

  • Tracy May 1, 2010, 7:19 am

You should visit Greenville, SC. It’s about 2 hours from Charlotte. We have an awesome downtown and millions of bungalows (I live in one!!)

  • Shell May 1, 2010, 7:29 am

You guys are too cute! matchng shirts and all :). Glad you had a good time, it looked fun

  • Lisa (lisaathome) May 1, 2010, 7:33 am

Haha I’m glad I’m not the only one that sits in silence with their bf (in your case husband) at dinner sometimes haha.

and you deserve a beer (or 3)haha 🙂

  • Amanda (Amanda "runs") May 1, 2010, 8:33 am

Nice shopping trip- you totally deserve a couple beers. How cute- your shirts match! Hooray for house hunting/wishful house gazing! My mom still likes to do that whereever we go.

  • Katie May 1, 2010, 9:08 am

I love that you love beer. 🙂

  • Claire May 1, 2010, 9:19 am

I love those houses in Orlando…I don’t know Florida much but love bungalows a lot after living in Laguna Beach in middle school I would definitely go for one of those too…

The dinner looks tasty, who doesn’t love fries? Hope you had a great night!

  • Jess May 1, 2010, 9:32 am

I love Dexter’s of Thorton. Downtown Orlando is my love and while you guys are itching to move away, I’m itching to move perimantely (I’ve lived there off and on for a few months at a time and visit ALL THE TIME!).

I know all the houses you posted-the third one is one of my favorites too!

    Enjoy your weekend!

  • gina (fitnessista) May 1, 2010, 9:38 am

that picture of you is so GORG 🙂 glad you had a fun night out with the hub
you may have convinced me to try beer…
    have a great weekend <3

  • Kim May 1, 2010, 9:39 am

I can’t believe you’re moving! I was so psyched to find an Orlando blog – I moved here 2 yrs ago from San Francisco and it’s taken a while for it to feel like home, but reading about someone else celebrating the same places I like is fun! I like WildSide in Thorton, and we live in College Park – tons of great places to eat on this side of downtown!

  • Jenn (from j3nn.net) May 1, 2010, 10:22 am

That sandwich looks sooo good! I’d probably have cheese, though. 😛 hehe Love the pictures of the houses and shops, very charming!

  • Sarah (GF vegan) May 1, 2010, 11:10 am

Sounds like a great night! Me and the hubby had one like that a couple of Saturdays ago. Sounds like your love for beer is akin to my love of wine 🙂 Happy weekend, love your blog x

  • katie May 1, 2010, 11:55 am

Sounds like a fun night! I’m pretty sure I know the area you are talking about! (I lived in Orlando for 2 summers in college. You’re right, orlando has so much to offer!) Did you find some cute clothes?? 🙂

    • Caitlin May 1, 2010, 11:56 am

I got a new dress and a pair of shorts.

  • Sassy Molassy May 1, 2010, 11:55 am

I love random fun nights that weren’t really planned but end up great anyway.

  • Kelly May 1, 2010, 12:41 pm

  • Nicole, RD May 1, 2010, 3:00 pm

3 deep isn’t too bad 🙂 Looks like a fun night!

  • Rachel May 1, 2010, 4:02 pm

I love those style homes as well!! We have alot of those in the downtown KC area. I would love to live in one, but the area is definitely not the best! I hope you find one up in NC!! Where are you gonna stay until you find/close on a home when you get up there?

    • Caitlin May 1, 2010, 8:08 pm

we’re renting, not buying so we’re going to go up the first weekend of june and stay with kath from katheats.com while we find a place 🙂

  • Helen May 1, 2010, 4:07 pm

lol I think me and my bf are becoming the couple that don’t talk but just play on our Blackberry’s!!! It sounds like you had a great evening out, but I’ve just read your future post and it didn’t seem like it turned out that well! Hope you feel ok now!

  • Kelsie May 1, 2010, 6:57 pm

I am so excited for you to move to Charlotte! We will definitely have to get together!! 🙂

  • Anna @ Doing Good & Living Well May 1, 2010, 7:14 pm

I lurveeeeeee beer too! It’s so my downfall. I would have a beer (or two) just about every night if it wouldn’t result in liver issues and clothes three sizes bigger. Oh beer. 🙂

Also, living in Charlotte means you’ll be much closer to DC. Time for more exploring? 🙂

  • Carolyn @ lovinlosing.com May 2, 2010, 7:30 am

Sounds like a fun date night. 🙂 Remember…house = yard work.

  • Shannon May 2, 2010, 8:02 am

Caitlin, you seriously have the MOST BEAUTIFUL hair. I’m jealous.

I love Arts and Crafts style homes too. Sadly, in my area (Minneapolis vicinity), they are way, way too expensive for us (unless they’re total fixer-uppers). Oh well!

    • caitlin May 2, 2010, 10:38 am

      thank you 🙂

  • Sarah @ See Sarah Eat May 3, 2010, 1:05 pm

I love soy lattes! I think they taste like toasted marshmallows 🙂

  • Dani May 4, 2010, 9:39 pm

That veggie sammich looks mighty tasty. Its awesome youre moving to Charlotte! Its such a great place, with plenty of culture, awesome places to eat, greta shopping, and plenty of pretty parks to run in! I live 40 mins away from there, im in Charlotte all of the time. You should sign up for the Susan G. Komen marathon in Oct in Charlotte! I’ll be running it!

  • Jasmine (Sweet and Fit) May 5, 2010, 2:39 pm

its so sad that i know exactly what u mean by being one of those couples that sit in silence on their iphones, lol
