I’m Baaaaack!

in All Posts

My first big post-marathon run!  I was a little nervous.

IMG_5366

But a little excited, too!

I did 6.0 miles after work today!  I was nervous about my foot because I injured a tendon during my marathon a few weeks ago.  But my “angry tendon” felt fine!  Wahoo!

And guess what? I felt like I’ve lost almost no endurance!  6.0 miles was a piece of cake (I did take a few walking breaks though!  Wasn’t running for time, but for fun!).

My statistics:

  • Duration: 59:49
  • Distance: 6.0 miles
  • Mile 1: 9:34
  • Mile 2: 9:40
  • Mile 3: 10:07
  • Mile 4: 10:11
  • Mile 5: 10:06
  • Mile 6: 9:49

Felt great!  And it makes me very confident I’ll be ready to do the 5.6 mile run in my Olympic Triathlon in March.  🙂

Afternoon snack:

IMG_6273

Chobani pineapple yogurt and 1 serving of granola.  Yes, I ventured beyond my pumpkin yogurt!

And dinner:

IMG_6276

An everything bagel with melted cheese, vegetarian sausages (Morningstar brand), and an egg.  Protein power!

IMG_6277

And broccoli and a banana (kind of a weird mix, yes).

I am hitting the hay at 9:30 PM!  Something came up tonight, and I suddenly have a lot to do tomorrow.  And I was planning to bike and swim, but I think I’m just going to swim.  Tri training is fun, but it feels very time consuming, even if it’s not!

Oh, and the Pets in Bed post sure hit a nerve!  Guess we all love our furbabies.  I liked reading your cute stories. 🙂

What kind of bagels are those? We’ve been getting Costco, but they’re not whole grain…

    • caitlin January 28, 2010, 9:37 pm

they are just arnold bagels… not whole grain. sometimes i need soft, squishy white bread bagels in my life. LOL

      • Runeatrepeat January 28, 2010, 9:40 pm

Well, if you are up for a white bagel every now and then… the Costco ones let you mix and match with a two pack. I get everything and cinnamon raisin and freeze half of them.

  • caronae January 28, 2010, 9:34 pm

I LOVE chobani pineapple flavor. And I love breakfast for dinner! I had a salad and a bowl of cereal tonight 🙂
    Have a great swim tomorrow.

  • Estela @ Weekly Bite January 28, 2010, 9:37 pm

I’m DYING to try pineapple chobani!!!

I LOVE morning star veggie sausages!

  • Erin (Travel, Eat, Repeat) January 28, 2010, 9:39 pm

I love the random dinner combo! As long as it all tastes good, that’s all that matters. 🙂

  • Evan Thomas January 28, 2010, 9:40 pm

Awesome job! Nothing can slow you down, apparently! I feel like I’m starting all over again after my running break, but I just need to stick to it. If it was there once, it can be there again.

  • Jenna @ EatingGreen, StayingLean January 28, 2010, 9:41 pm

Hey there, dinner looks great! The bagel looked DELICIOUS. How can you go wrong with bagels (besides the crazy carbs)? 🙂

Good luck with your swim tomorrrow! I tried Spirulina today and blogged about it…not so bad, so far 🙂

    • caitlin January 28, 2010, 9:41 pm

me and carbs are BFF, forever ever.

  • Karla January 28, 2010, 10:11 pm

I love Morningstar Sausage patties! So good!
I have a question: I know you’ve had some knee problems in the past. I was looking for your post about it but couldn’t find it. Recently my knees haven’t been doing too well. Tonight my knee was pretty swollen so I iced it. Do you have any tips for running pain free?

  • Lindsay January 28, 2010, 10:20 pm

What kind of cheese did you use on your Dinner “Breakfast” Sandwich?? I looks good and I really think I want to make that for Lunch tomorrow!!

    • caitlin January 29, 2010, 7:33 am

      it’s Calbot’s 3 Year Aged Cheddar 🙂

  • alexe @ soyaetchocolat January 28, 2010, 10:21 pm

Congratulations on the run! I wish winter would end already so I could run outside again. I still have at least two more months of treadmill ahead of me. Do you think it’s bad to run inside? Will I get use to it and find it difficult to go back outside?

    • caitlin January 29, 2010, 7:35 am

I wouldn’t run in ice or snow, but lots of people run in cold weather (hell, I did the Disney Marathon in 19 degrees!). Just make sure you have the right gear on (ie hat, gloves, running tights… you can do some research on runnersworld.com). and you still need to drink water!

you should slowly transition from 100% treadmilling to running outside – its a change of pace and surface, which can wreck havoc on your joints. I would recommend replacing 1 run per week with an outdoor run until you’ve slowly transitioned.

      • alexe @ soyaetchocolat January 29, 2010, 8:57 am

Thank you for your advices! I’ll try them as soon as the snow and ice melt!

  • Kathleen January 28, 2010, 10:21 pm

Congrats on a great first long run back!!! I’m so glad that it was so successful (although I never had any doubts) and that you feel confident about the running portion of the tri! You’re gonna rock that tri, girl!

  • Mary @ Fit this girl January 28, 2010, 10:25 pm

Yay for the great run and YAY for morningstar sausages!! Great post!

  • Melissa S. January 28, 2010, 10:26 pm

glad to hear the run went well! too bad you got hurt…or you’d be down here in miami w/ me this weekend running a race. 😀

  • Danielle (Coffee Run) January 28, 2010, 10:46 pm

    Congrats on the run! 🙂
It’s weird…I don’t think I’ve ever had just plain banana. It always needs some nut butter or oatmeal or something

  • Jenna January 28, 2010, 11:00 pm

    Good job on the run!

  • Hillary @ Nutrition Nut on the Run January 28, 2010, 11:14 pm

What is ‘1 serving’ of granola?

    • caitlin January 29, 2010, 7:35 am

1/2 cup = 240 calories (for this brand of granola)

  • Jolene (www.everydayfoodie.ca) January 28, 2010, 11:27 pm

I can’t buy Chobani in my city – who can I blame for this sin!!??

  • Katharine January 28, 2010, 11:32 pm

LOVE the pineapple flavor but can’t find it ANYwhere near me 🙁 One day. (Also, no Blogging Pants yet, so I just wanted to give you a heads up and let you know I’m keeping my eye out for them!) Congrats on your successful run!

  • Mary (Food Fit & Fun) January 28, 2010, 11:41 pm

awesome run! I love how you can bang out 6 miles, no biggie! haha. I wish I was in bed by 9:30, but at that time I was sitting down to dinner with my familia!! Early morning tomorrow too.

  • Amber K January 28, 2010, 11:57 pm

I LOVE chobani. Although I stick with the plain and sweeten it myself. I don’t know what some of those chemicals are in them! I did try the peach and it was yummy! But I like my yogurt without chunks!

Congrats on getting back into running after the marathon. I’m glad your foot is feeling better! My hip is finally feeling better, so I feel okay enough to work out again. I’ve still been heating it at night though! I don’t want it to get worse.

  • *Andrea* January 29, 2010, 1:32 am

great run! you’re superwoman 🙂 loveeeeee making egg and vegetarian sausage sandwiches with cheese! way better than the egg mcmuffin and healthier!

  • Jenn (www.j3nn.net) January 29, 2010, 1:36 am

I looooooove Chobani pineapple yogurt, it’s so delish, almost like a dessert!

Your dinner looks great, too. I <3 egg sandwiches.

    Jenn

  • Jessica @ WHY DONTCHA RUN January 29, 2010, 5:38 am

Wow! I really hope to be able to run like you one day. 🙂 I sure am workin’ my little heart out to get there! 😉 You’re quite the inspiration.

P.S. I looooove me some breakfast for dinner. YUM-O!

    • caitlin January 29, 2010, 7:36 am

  • Freya @ foodfitnessandfreya.wordpress.com January 29, 2010, 6:50 am

YAY go you on your run, you must feel fab!
Haha bananas and broccoli together!? Well I never 😛 love the randomness of that combo!
    Have a good sleep 🙂

Congratulations! It must have felt good to be able to run again.

  • Tina January 29, 2010, 7:51 am

  • Diana (Mymarblerye) January 29, 2010, 7:58 am

wowza…what a thick protein filled dinnah. i want

  • Emily Eats and Exercises January 29, 2010, 7:59 am

That sandwich looks so good. I adore bagels and I haven’t had them in forever. I’m kind of a snob about real bakery bagels though… Boston’s don’t quite rival New Yorks’ but there are some great shops.

  • Anna @ Newlywed, Newly Veg January 29, 2010, 8:05 am

Yay!!! SO glad your foot didn’t bother you!

I just saw that you’re going to fit bloggin’– I’ll be there too! I’m excited!!

  • Paige (Running Around Normal) January 29, 2010, 8:14 am

Hehe that picture of you is hilarious/adorable – but so glad your run went well 😀 I’m sure that’s such a confidence booster.

  • Allyson January 29, 2010, 8:14 am

Up here in Ohio we usually have canned pumpkin in stores all year long (as you said). But last time I went to the store to stock up the entire self was empty with a sign of apology. Apparently the massive snow storms are getting in the way of pumpkin transportation!

  • Morgan @ Healthy Happy Place January 29, 2010, 8:38 am

glad to hear your foot is doing better! Must not have been a stress fracture after all.

That bagel looks awesome. breakfast for dinner is one of my favorite treats!

  • Jessica @ The Process of Healing January 29, 2010, 8:56 am

So so SO glad you had a great run and your foot is better!! I know how exciting that must be.. and so relieving!!

  • Nicole January 29, 2010, 9:03 am

Awesome first run back! I’ll bet that’s exciting! As a fellow runner and marathoner, I totally get it : )

  • Heather @ Side of Sneakers January 29, 2010, 9:41 am

Congrats on your run! Yay!! That bagel sammie looks gooood!

  • Heather (Heather's Dish) January 29, 2010, 11:16 am

hurray for a pain-free run! that’s so awesome that you were able to do that and not lose any endurance 🙂

  • alli January 29, 2010, 5:10 pm

i have a sort of technical question. maybe the answer is more of an opinion. anyhow, i have been wondering what the difference is between jogging and running; here’s what i found:
    http://www.fitsugar.com/162638
“Technically, if it takes you less than 9 minutes to complete 1 mile, you are running. If it takes you more than 9 minutes to complete 1 mile, you are jogging.”

that makes me want to cry! it’s not often that i can hold a pace under 9 minutes for longer than maybe 3 miles.
anyways, maybe sometime you can bring this up and see what all your readers have to say! 🙂
    thanks!

    • Caitlin January 29, 2010, 5:16 pm

bah. in my opinion, that is bullshit. for example, i was totally RUNNING the last mile of my mile but i think it was like 13:00. LOL

technically speaking, you are running if both feet are off the ground at any given time. but i think running is more of an attitude than anything else. run like you mean it, and you’re running no matter how fast you are going!

      • alli January 29, 2010, 5:26 pm

lol. thanks 🙂 i like your response!

  • a January 30, 2010, 8:28 pm

I can’t decide what looks better, that bagel or the broccoli.
    Yum
And you can be assured that I too, require white bread products namely bagels and crumpets in my life also 🙂
