Coffee and Cherries

in All Posts

Anyone else have really weird dreams last night?

I dreamt the Husband was divorcing me (and was being really mean about it), and I had to go back to my former job.  My old boss was making me buy him leggings online, but I couldn’t figure out how to send an email from Outlook or print it out.  There were so many new employees and no one would listen to me (I worked there for 3.5 years)!  Oh my.  What do you think that means?

Breakfast:

I tried to create a Coffee and Cherries-flavored oatmeal.  It was good, but it’s missing something (like chocolate?).

IMG_6256

My oatmeal contained:

  • 1/2 cup oatmeal
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/2 cup rice milk
  • 1 sliced banana
  • Cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon instant coffee
  • Toppings:  cherries, flax, and brown sugar

I’m off to get my life together!  I suffered from major writer’s block yesterday, and I’m hoping today is easier.

i love the idea of “coffee & cherries!” sounds so yummy & pretty 🙂

LOL at all your dreams… & really funny, because i had weird dreams last night too! i dreamt there was a huge dalmation dog randomly sitting on the bed and the white parts of its skin were glowing. then i woke up and i must have thought i was still in the dream because i was like “OMG!” and my boyfriend was like, “what??” and then i realized there was no dog….

    anyway! 🙂 happy thursday!

  • Laura Smith January 28, 2010, 9:18 am

how weird! I had a dream my boyfriend dumped me also, and he was super mean about it!

  • Amy January 28, 2010, 9:19 am

Good morning, Caitlin! Lol about the dreams– but I’m right there with you… lots of weirdo dreams lately! …Maybe it’s a “mid-winter thing”? Your oatmeal looks really yummy, and I think chocolate sounds like an awesome addition next time– chocolate + cherry is an all time great combination 🙂

  • Courtney January 28, 2010, 9:19 am

I did not have weird dreams last night but I know what you mean. Whenever I have a dream where I can’t seem to do a normal task I get so frustrated in my sleep!!!
Good luck on your busy day.

I have a dream kind of like that where I’m teaching, and my students are talking over me louder and louder, and I can’t get them to be quiet. I always end the dream just sobbing!!! It’s horrible!

Good luck TCB’ing it today 🙂

  • Babycakes January 28, 2010, 9:28 am

I have weird dreams almost nightly…can’t figure out what they mean for the life of me! Good luck with the writing today! 🙂

  • Julie @ Peanut Butter Fingers January 28, 2010, 9:28 am

what a crazy dream! at least is was only a dream… sometimes dreams like that make me happy for my own reality! 🙂

  • Karla January 28, 2010, 9:33 am

    What a weird dream!!
I think the idea of dreaming and remembering it is so bizarre! Crazy what the brain can do!

  • Jessica @ How Sweet January 28, 2010, 9:33 am

I hate having dreams where my hubby and I split – I always wake up so mad! lol.

  • Diana January 28, 2010, 9:34 am

Eh, sometimes crazy dreams are just that… crazy dreams. I’ve had my share of them, for sure. I’ve died several times in my dreams… What does THAT mean? 😐
    Good looking breakfast there 🙂

  • Samantha January 28, 2010, 9:35 am

I don’t pay much attention to my dreams, just because they can be so bizzare! I’m not saying it was the wine (since you had it so early), but it always gives me crazy dreams!!

  • Heather (Heather's Dish) January 28, 2010, 9:37 am

what a sad and weird dream! good thing it’s not true 🙂

that oatmeal looks amazing, but i’d totally love something like chocolate in it…yum!

  • barbaraq(Blood, Sweat and Heels) January 28, 2010, 9:38 am

I think the dreams just show that you are a little nervous about moving forward into uncharted terrain.Maybe a wee bit of insecurity with the book but who wouldn’t have that?

You are doing so great Caitlin…it’s going to be a great success!

  • Nicole January 28, 2010, 9:38 am

I’ve been having such WEIRD dreams lately! I assume it’s because I’ve been watching a very absurd TV show on DVD every night before bed, haha.

  • Lauren @ Eater not a runner January 28, 2010, 9:39 am

    Wow those cherries look amazing!

  • Sarah @ See Sarah Eat January 28, 2010, 9:40 am

I had a dream the other day that I was letting my best friend drive me home but she was drunk and kept hitting curbs. All things that would never happen in real life but I’m sort of seeing the metaphors now…hmm…

    Good luck writing today!

  • Madeline - Greens and Jeans January 28, 2010, 9:41 am

The leggings really make that dream! Last night I had a dream that I had to move to the apartment next door but nothing was fitting out the door so I had to move everything through the windows (and I live on the 2nd floor)!

  • Kristie January 28, 2010, 9:42 am

Yeah, I had some bizarre-o dreams last night too. I find that I don’t wake up feeling like I slept as deeply when that happens too!

  • Kerry (Running on Faith) January 28, 2010, 9:42 am

Good luck with the writing today!

  • Jessica @ Fit Chick Wannabe January 28, 2010, 9:43 am

I have weird dreams almost every night. I don’t know what it is! And I def have had many a dream about my fiance leaving me or being incredibly cold to me. It’s the worst when you wake up and you still feel really upset. As far as your dream goes, I would just chalk that up to the fact that everything in your life (as far as I know by reading, anyway) is going great for you right now. Maybe subconsciously you are afraid of losing it all or it changing?

  • Gracie January 28, 2010, 9:43 am

Your oatmeal LOOKS gorgeous, no matter how it tastes!

  • Morgan @ Life After Bagels January 28, 2010, 9:43 am

oooh that’s an interesting one . . . since it’s so life like, consult a book I’d say!

  • Lindsay @ cookingforaveganlover.wordpress.com January 28, 2010, 9:51 am

    yum those cherries look delicious

  • Avery January 28, 2010, 9:54 am

I had a dream about my best friend from childhood (who I haven’t spoken to in ten years!). She was really mean to me (in the dream and in real life). It was one of those dreams that seems so real you are surprised when you wake up and find out it was a dream.

  • laura dishes January 28, 2010, 9:57 am

I didn’t sleep well last night, either. Was there a full moon that I didn’t know about?!

Maybe you’re still adjusting to your situation (self-employment, promoting your book, etc), or worried about the success of your current plan? Or, is there some part of yourself that you have been neglecting since you left your job? Your dreams of loss/inability/being ignored make those things come to mind.

    Just some guesses!

    • caitlin January 28, 2010, 10:12 am

these are good guesses. because i am so type a, i think not having a ‘set work schedule’ makes me feel a little lost sometimes. i mean, its girl, but the lack of structure sometimes is a bad thing.

  • Tonyne @ Unlikely Success Story January 28, 2010, 9:57 am

Good luck with the block today! I also had weird dreams last night. Maybe the moon was align with a cow chewing grass in Long Island or something.

  • Sara @ ActiveGal January 28, 2010, 10:01 am

Wow! Those are some crazy dreams! Good luck today! Hopefully you can get over that writers block! 🙂

  • Kelly January 28, 2010, 10:10 am

Sometimes dreams can be so crazy! Do you ever have recurring ones? Those are the worst because they are never good. Usually before running a race I always have some sort of dream that I am trying to run so fast but I am not moving and everyone is passing me up! Now I know that is just my nerves! 🙂

  • Matt January 28, 2010, 10:15 am

Lol hopefully that dream isn’t a prelude for things to come… I doubt it though! I have weird dreams like that all the time!

  • Allie (Live Laugh Eat) January 28, 2010, 10:19 am

I had a dream that I ate a shiz ton of icky food. Not gonna lie, I was relieved when I woke up and found out it was just a dream 🙂 I guess I was hungry??

  • tracy January 28, 2010, 10:22 am

I added instant coffee to my oatmeal over the weekend and loved it! Thanks for the delicious tip!!

  • Pure2raw twins January 28, 2010, 10:24 am

What a dream! I hate when I have dreams and I wake up wondering why in the hell would I dream that?? I sometimes get so confused I will spend time researching how to interpret dreams, but to only find myself getting more confused. The mind and emotions are powerful things, so it is hard not to overlook them.

  • Heather (The Single Dish) January 28, 2010, 10:25 am

Never thought to put cherries in hot cereal, looks awesome!

  • Jessica January 28, 2010, 10:25 am

I had crazy dreams last night too…
I am blaming the FULL MOON

  • Krista January 28, 2010, 10:28 am

I would be seriously disturbed if I had to buy my boss leggings online :). Did you eat anything strange last night before you went to bed? I’ve found that if I eat chocolate before I go to bed I have weird (or more memorable) dreams.

Hope you get a lot done today!

  • Kara M. January 28, 2010, 10:28 am

The shoes are fine…you need cleats added to them!

  • Jenny @ nutmegger January 28, 2010, 10:31 am

That is so wierd – I had a crazy dream last night too! I was driving with my three best friends, and they all do not have 9-5 jobs like me and I was freaking out because I was going to be late to work and I was going to get fired.?? I love using a dream dictionary to figure out what it means. Apparently my dream last night denotes my fear of change and I might be overwhelmed thinking about my future. Hmm this sounds about accurate. Give it a try! http://www.dreammoods.com/dreamdictionary/

    • caitlin January 28, 2010, 10:32 am

      Hmmm

“To dream that you are at your former or past work, suggests that there is an old lesson that you need to learn and apply to your current situation.”

      Hmmmm…..

  • Heather January 28, 2010, 10:40 am

I love crazy dreams. A few weeks ago, my husband had a dream that I wouldn’t let him go to Olive Garden with me – he woke up so pissed at me!

Last night, I had a dream I was at BJs Wholesale club and couldn’t find cheerios – they had also moved everything around and painted the store red. Odd…

  • RunToTheFinish January 28, 2010, 10:45 am

Just wondering whatever happened to the results for the second POTM?

    • caitlin January 28, 2010, 10:52 am

oh yea… LOL Bobbi was the real mastermind behind POTM because I was in London when it finished up. I wonder what happened! I’ll ask her.

  • Haleigh January 28, 2010, 10:46 am

Crazy dream! I usually can’t remember mine.

  • Teacherwoman January 28, 2010, 10:47 am

Now that you ask, I did have a weird dream last night! I dreamt that I was yelling at a friend for trying to plan her wedding when she wasn’t even ingaged yet. It was weird, but I definitely know where it was coming from. (I am trying to be supportive of a friend when I have different feelings on this situation).

I have no idea what to tell you about your dream. Are you overwhelmed? Feel like you are not in control of things? That’s all I can think of. weird!

  • Amber K January 28, 2010, 10:52 am

I hate dreams like that. They make me feel grumpy all morning.

This morning I’m having apple cinnamon oatmeal. With oats, cut up fresh apple, applesauce, cinnamon, and flax with slivered almonds and greek yogurt on the side. I gotta go to work this morning which involves five hours of not getting another chance to eat! A stretch for me who usually eats every 2.5-3.5 hours!

  • Jen January 28, 2010, 11:02 am

I didn’t have any weird dreams but my bf did! He was kicking like crazy last night! 4 feet in the air! Lifting the covers up as he kicked – insanity…

I was stressed out last night so he put his hand over my heart to try to calm me down. It worked and I went right to sleep. Unfortunately, I think he took on my stress and that transferred to his dreams. Does that make any sense???

  • Shannon (The Daily Balance) January 28, 2010, 11:05 am

i have weird dreams ever single night — sooo frustrating and have no idea what it can be — most times nightmares!

at least you had a good breakfast to bring you out of it 😉

  • Kimberly Lee January 28, 2010, 11:14 am

The coffee and cherry oatmeal looks delish. I might have to try in tomorrow instead of my usual – ‘Naner Split Oatmeal.

I chuckled a good bit at your weird dream. I seem to have those more and more frequently. Two nights ago, I dreamed that my sister-in-law was marrying Hugh Hefiner and I was the matron of honor. Then in the midst of the wedding my BIL and husband showed up and stole us away on motorcycles. I wonder what causes weird dreams….stress, too much t.v….or just randomness.

  • Alisha January 28, 2010, 11:15 am

maybe your dream is saying that your new home job isn’t regimented enough. I know for me, when I first started university my studies suffered because I wasn’t use to not having a 8 to 4 schedule and so much freedom. It took me a while to get use to the fact that I was now solely responsible for my success. Its funny, because I could totally see this dream being reversed the other way.

    • caitlin January 28, 2010, 11:16 am

I think you hit the nail on the head!

      • Alisha January 28, 2010, 11:38 am

I learned my lesson unfortunately when I failed a course, which then caused me to fail the whole program. I ended up making up the work the following year, and passed, but I should have know better than to slack off in the first place. It wish I had a dream that reminded me to pick up the pace, haha, would have saved me some tuition money.

  • Tracey January 28, 2010, 11:20 am

I too had weird dreams last night. It was about all these people, who are usually very nice to me, being really mean to me.

  • Karissa @ CardioFoodie January 28, 2010, 11:34 am

Yes, I had the weirdest/scariest dreams ever last night! I never had weird dreams, so needless to say I didn’t sleep too well. Don’t you wake up feeling so confused?

You’re oats look amazing! I have never thought to try cherries.

  • Karin January 28, 2010, 11:34 am

Oh that’s so weird! I had the strangest dream last night (I “actually” ran a race but we had to start with cycling first and it was like an awful hunt!) I woke up super exhausted.

  • Stina @ Girl Can January 28, 2010, 11:35 am

I had a weird dream two nights ago! I dreamt I was hooking up with one of my co-workers!

  • Jenny January 28, 2010, 11:37 am

I can’t even remember my dreams! Not even the really good ones! Of course, I remember the ones where someone dies or i’m naked in front of everyone at the Healthy Living Summmit and i’ve forgotten that I am supposed to be giving a presentation of some sort (this little gem was just last week). I ended up having to put on a little…dress? Made of those foil yogurt covers. I mean…seriously? THAT’S what I can recall?

I think that certainly this dream means that you are very uncertain about what’s to come- the book is going to come out and you have no idea what will happen or what direction it will take and right now, the writing of the book is over and it’s a waiting game until the release. In the meantime- how do you get on a productive schedule? How do you deal with the changes that are sure to come? Will your relationships change? How will your relationships change? There are so many questions. Then, there’s the question of what to do while you wait- how to best use your time, how to produce the best writing you can, etc. I was actually reading your post “Everything Changes” yesterday. Well, I think that when the book is released, everything could change again. But, Caitlin, it’s a world of possibility and potential. I am excited to see where it takes you next.

I think that you are doing the best you can daily. Yesterday was, as you said, a tough day for you, so i’m not entirely surprised that you had this dream. Seems very timely to me.

I hope today goes much better for you with the writing- sounds like you got off to a good start with breakfast. 🙂
    Jenny

    • Jenny January 28, 2010, 11:38 am

      Holy moly. That was long.

    • caitlin January 28, 2010, 11:47 am

YAY thanks for the sweet and thoughtful comment. i think you definitely got it right – i’m being productive, but people say “oh what are your plans?” and im always like “I HAVE NO F-IGN CLUE!” LOL i’m OK with that, but maybe subconsciously it makes me nervous.

      • Jenny January 28, 2010, 2:32 pm

HAHA! I feel the SAME way! I’m like, “When I figure out my plan, I’ll let you know!” It definitely makes me feel like…AHHHH! WTH is going to happen?!? Then I end up with 12787986 post-it and notebook “to-do” list and before I know it it’s *headdesk thud* time. I have to keep reminding myself to be patient with myself and pace myself. Whatever will happen will happen. 🙂

  • Cynthia (It All Changes) January 28, 2010, 11:40 am

I had a dream that I was part of a plot to save the world that required me to live in the bubble and float down a dirty river. We had to go into this big lab to get something and then I woke up. Strange indeed.

  • Carrie H January 28, 2010, 11:48 am

I have been having SUCH weird (and scary) dreams lately! A couple nights ago, I had a dream that I had to cover a brutal rape trial (I really am a news reporter) that is actually happening in a nearby city, but I’m not covering it … I’ve covered similar things and they are always DISTURBING. Then the night after, I dreamt I had to spend the night with vampires and survive, and that my dog disguised as a statue somehow saved me. (I don’t even like Twilight — no idea where the vampire thing came from!)

I think vivid dreams (even scary/weird ones) are a sign of good exercise and deep, solid sleep! Maybe I’m not right, but that’s usually when I have ’em.

  • katherine January 28, 2010, 11:53 am

The fresh cherries look so vibrant and satisfying!

Weird dreams can be so unsettling, but I like to imagine this means the thoughts were being processed while I slept and now they can be out of my head 🙂

  • Kristine January 28, 2010, 12:01 pm

haha I think weird dreams are funny. I have been having re-occuring dreams lately that I have a baby. I’m not even married NOR do I even have a boyfriend…so this is impossible!

  • Deva (Voracious Vorilee) January 28, 2010, 12:09 pm

The dreams I always remember are the ones that leave me wondering if they were real or are real. Yours sounds like one of those kinds of dreams.

  • KatieTX January 28, 2010, 12:21 pm

I had a slew of weird dreams last night. One involving me hiding from a killer who I knew was just pretending all along. Then I dreamed Adam Lambert from American Idol kept texting me…weird.

  • Marla January 28, 2010, 12:25 pm

Inspired by you, I tried putting kidney beans on sweet potato-SO tasty!
While I microwaved the sweet potato,I put a little olive oil in a pot, added broccoli, kidney beans, and for flavour a bit of maple syrup, sriracha sauce and tamari sauce.Just took a few minutes to saute it all.At end threw in a little bit of crumbled goat’s cheese feta, and piled it all on top of sweet potato! AMAZING!super yum!!!

    • caitlin January 28, 2010, 1:35 pm

      that sounds reaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaally delicious

I get the weirdest dreams when I’m stressed out about school (I teach middle school). I’ve had a lot lately because we are headed into high-stakes state testing season. I’m ready for April when it’ll be smooth sailing (and sleeping.)

  • Freya @ foodfitnessandfreya.wordpress.com January 28, 2010, 12:37 pm

Having the writer’s block every once in a while is a normal thing and you should not worry too much about it! I am sure you’ll get back to it in no time.

I had dreams about the hubby divorcing me before. So unsettling. Woke up not totally sure wether it was real or not.

    Hope your day goes well!

  • Jessica @ The Process of Healing January 28, 2010, 12:58 pm

I wish you luck with the writer’s block! I think that happens every once in a while.. perfectly normal.

And that dream is hilarious! I had a strange one as well but for the life of me, I can’t remember it. Yet I know it was strange. That ever happen to anyone else or I am just weird like that?

  • Heidi January 28, 2010, 1:09 pm

Must have been something in the moon last night. I had weird dreams too. And about my husband! It’s a 5-10 min drive to take the kids to school. I was going to drive but my husband insisted he would drive. So we leave with 40 minutes to get there. My son had an exam and HAD to be there before 9:00 (he does have an exam today). My husband was driving super slow and kept stopping to look at things. He was being so frustrating and in the end we got there with seconds to go before they locked the doors. I also dreamt that I had to drive his extra long truck around with the extra long equipment trailer and I kept getting into areas I shouldn’t and having to back it up (which I suck at). The whole night was very frustrating!

  • Paige (Running Around Normal) January 28, 2010, 1:10 pm

LOL whenever I dream my husband is breaking up/divorcing me/cheating on me, he’s always super mean about, too. Like I’m the one in the wrong! Then I wake up super pissed haha They probably don’t mean anything – or maybe in your case, you’re jsut so thankful for where you are in life right now that you’d hate to lose it? I dunnno.
Good luck on your writing today!

  • emily January 28, 2010, 1:11 pm

I had to get my wisdom teeth pulled this morning and all week I have been stressed about it. I’ve never had surgery before and besides teeth cleaning,I’ve only gotten dental work done once. I was really scared of waking up after the procedure and not knowing where I was. Last night I kept waking up from dreams and thinking I was at the DRs!

  • Amanda (Two Boos Who Eat) January 28, 2010, 5:30 pm

about your dream-did your old boss ever ask you to do ridiculous things?

  • christy from pittsburgh January 28, 2010, 8:21 pm

dont worry too much abt what the dreams mean. it was just a dream. the weirdest and saddest dream i had was that my bf got back with his ex-wife and that my ex-bf was proposing and i kept saying “no, no, no. it’s not supposed to be you!” anyhoo, you’re fabulous and your hubby knows that well!

  • Nicci@NiftyEats January 28, 2010, 9:12 pm

I hope the writers block goes away. I love seeing what your oatmeal is going to have in it.
