I'm really glad that I stumbled across this old post. I'm in the process of starting up my own blog...not exactly healthy living, but that will certainly be a part of it.

Thing is, I have been afraid of how honest one has to be in a blog. I am a smoker. I haven't been able to kick it completely yet. I'm getting better. Sometimes I don't have any at all. It's work and drinking that do it to me. Something about alcohol or being packed in a workplace where everyone is a smoker and unhappy. Just makes me crack. Maybe only 1 or 2 a day...but it's 1 or 2 a day too many!

At any rate, I just keep thinking, "How can I start a blog that talks about efforts to be healthier when I'm still doing this? What if someone finds out?!" After reading your admission that you had a couple of puffs, it sort of brought me back down to earth. We're all human, we all make mistakes and have stupid hang ups. I will kick the habit eventually, but for now, it's just something I'm struggling with. I'm not a bad person or a fraud. I'm exactly what I declare myself to be: A work in progress.

Thanks for your honesty...and an awesome blog! I hope when mine is set up completely, you'll stop by! ;)

[...] Today, I had a “fat day.” I felt awful about myself. It started off innocently enough – I actually felt GOOD for the first 60% of the day. I was wearing my new cardigan (thanks, Boyfriend!) and I got to do a lot of reading at the library in the morning. Then, I went to school for the afternoon. The staff bathroom at school has mirrors facing each other, so I got to check out how ill-fitting my jeans look, or how my muffin top is visible EVEN WITH A SWEATSHIRT ON. It was really all downhill from there. I played Survivor Kickball and SPUD (my favorite!) with the childrens, and I felt like the biggest blob when I ran. I noticed how my car wiggles when I wiggle. I couldn’t think of a single healthy thing to eat for dinner (salad? Sure! … with Ranch dressing, please!). I just felt SLOPPY. Since moving to St. Louis, I know that I’ve gained weight. Not just because I bought a scale that I am too ashamed to step on now. I can feel it and see it and it is depressing. Boyfriend & I have BOTH gotten a little.. plumper since moving in together, and to me, that is not okay. We should be making each other BETTER, not worse! So, in this spirit, I have decided to declare a Back on Track Month, a la Caitlin.
Yeah, I shot myself in the foot doing just that with my 30 days of running. *sigh* But, the good thing is, if you slip, you fess up and get back on track! :) I think my goal will be changed to not necessarily 30 days of running, but maybe 30 miles in 30 days - that way, if I need a break, I can take it.

Good luck!
