SpiBelt Review

I was SO excited to go on a run this morning because it was a breathtaking 68 degrees!  Fall has hit Central Florida!  This is exactly why our running season is winter — running in 68 degree weather is a piece of cake compared to running in the Florida heat (it was 90 degrees earlier this week!).

Plus, I had a new gadget to try out:  the SpiBelt!

I’m bringing fanny back! (Side note: it is extremely difficult to take a flattering photograph of your crotch.)

The SpiBelt website says, "SpiBelts are sleek, expandable, and secure. They can hold an iPod, Blackberry, cell, keys, up to five Goo packs, and other small personal items. The SpiBelt does not bounce, ride, or shift while running or doing other activities."

I bought a SpiBelt last week because I really need a new way to hold fuel when running — as my distances get longer and longer, I need to carry more food!  Also, I’d love a way to carry my camera on runs.  🙂 Obviousllllly.

I stuck two Goo packs and my keys in my SpiBelt for a "test run" today to see if it would bounce.

My thoughts?  SpiBelt is AWESOME!  It really did not move at all.  I actually forgot I was wearing it after the first 0.5 mile.  Amazing!

The SpiBelt retails for $19.95 and comes in an array of fun colors.  It can also double as a belt for your race number.  It is truly worth the cost (which struck me as high when I purchased it… but now that I’ve worn it, it’s a steal!).

My run was FANTASTIC.  The cold weather was so refreshing, and I managed to maintain a speedy pace without even trying. Wa-hoo!

  • Duration:  45:58
  • Distance: 5.0 miles
  • Mile 1: 9:36
  • Mile 2: 9:24
  • Mile 3: 9:04
  • Mile 4: 9:12
  • Mile 5: 8:53

Before I left, I had toast and blueberry jam:

And when I returned, I had Blueberry Chobani, granola, and blueberries (guess it’s a blueberry kind of morning!):

Off to seize the morning!

Have a wonderful day. 🙂

Awesome run! I am going to have to keep an eye out for this belt.
Have you ever had one of the water belts?? I was debating getting one, but I couldn’t decide between that and a camelbak.

    • caitlin September 30, 2009, 6:31 am

i have never worn a water belt, but i really don’t see how those cannot bounce because the would be so uneven once you start to drink! unless you take one sip from the left and another from the right side. LOL. i really do like my camelbak. it moves a little but you get used to it. i recommend the ladies’ fit because it has slimmer profile.

  • Jessica @ How Sweet It Is September 30, 2009, 6:31 am

That belt looks awesome. I will have to get my husband to check it out. He used to run with the water belts and hates them. Thanks!

  • Dori September 30, 2009, 6:33 am

Why is it that when you like something I realize I need it in my life too? I think I will buy a Spibelt now… I’d love to be able to run in Central Park, I usually run by the water because it is close and I don’t need to bring anything, but I’d love the option!

  • Diana September 30, 2009, 6:35 am

That looks pretty awesome! I’m not runner, but it would probably be very useful even for long walks. 🙂

Also, YAY for Fall. I really missed the cooler weather. 🙂

  • Shelly September 30, 2009, 6:40 am

I have a spibelt (mine has a hot pink pocket) and I love it- but not as much as I love my Nike running shorts with a built in pocket in the back. This is going to sound totally vain, but I think that wearing a running belt (aka fanny pack) just looks a little dorky. 🙂 I still do it when I need to carry a lot of stuff though!

    • caitlin September 30, 2009, 6:43 am

hahaha i felt pretty dorky too. that’s why i bought the darker color one that hopefully blends into my shorts! 🙂

  • Meg C. September 30, 2009, 6:41 am

nice job on the negative splits! i always struggle with that.

that belt looks pretty cool – nice and small. i HATE things bouncing around when I run. (also that’s why I’m glad I have a small chest ha ha..)

  • Runeatrepeat September 30, 2009, 6:44 am

I love my spibelt!!! Love it. And that is saying something since I hate wearing any kind of fuel belt since they are heavy and bounce.

  • Megan @ Megzz Wins At Life September 30, 2009, 6:52 am

I think I need to buy it.. I always want to bring stuff on my runs and I never can and it frustrates me.. 20 bucks it is expensive but looks like it is totally worth it.

  • Mara @ What's For Dinner? September 30, 2009, 7:06 am

That would be so nice on my long walks instead of having junk in my pockets all the time!!

  • Courtney September 30, 2009, 7:16 am

I love me some fanny pack…and it actually really comes in handy when walking the dogs to hold bags, water, etc. I even used mine once to grab a puppy I found running loose. I used the fanny pack as a leash around his collar until I found his family!!! Macgyver baby!
Thanks for the review on this product though..I have been looking for something similar for when I fun, this looks perfect…going on my Christmas list!

I use an iFitness mini sport belt which looks very similar the the SpiBelt. I was a shocked that the thing does not move when running. Even though it is a bit dorky looking, it serves a great purpose. It is so funny how many things I end up putting on before heading out the door – Road ID, IPod, cell phone, Garmen. I bet your routine is much the same.
    Have a great day.

  • Courtney September 30, 2009, 7:17 am

Or for when I run! Instead of when I fun! HA!! Ooops

  • Madeline @ GreensAndJeans September 30, 2009, 7:25 am

Probably a much better option than throwing my gummy bears (my fuel of choice) in my sports bra…

  • Brooke September 30, 2009, 7:25 am

It’s okay to wear a fanny pack if you are hot and a beastly runner! It’s true, it’s true!

The new site is gorrrrgeeeousss!!!!! You must be thrilled!

  • Evan Thomas September 30, 2009, 7:27 am

Great new site! I’m glad I thought “what happened to healthy tipping point” and updated Google Reader. In response to your last post, I’d go with Bob. I don’t think I could handle being torn down by Jilian

  • Ali September 30, 2009, 7:51 am

Um, that is perfect! I have been looking for something like that for ages. I just purchased the Limited Edition Susan G. Komen Ribbon Belt, I think it is the same as yours but with a pink zipper and the breast cancer ribbons on it! Thanks for the great idea!

  • skinnyrunner September 30, 2009, 7:53 am

i run with a hydro belt for longer runs but sometimes it gets annoying… esp when the water bottle’s full. i guess the extra weight. ive read all good things about these spi belts tho, thanks for the review!

  • Melissa September 30, 2009, 8:02 am

I bought a Hydrobelt for my longer runs so i could have a drink plus use the pouch to carry stuff. I’ve been as a loss on short runs when I don’t need 2 bottles of water. Love the SpiBelt concept and think I might need to try one out as well!

I wasn’t able to see the new site yesterday but things look GREAT today. Thanks for blogging! :o)

  • alli September 30, 2009, 8:06 am

great run! this mornings run was a beautiful, 75 degree-ish overcast sky for me in phoenix! i love it! thanks for the spi belt review. i’ll be trying one out soon!

  • Kelly September 30, 2009, 8:14 am

Great run this morning Caitlin! Our runs were a pretty similar pace. I study on the couch. Which I now know is a big no no. From now on I am locking myself in the spare bedroom and studying at the desk.

  • Amanda (Two Boos Who Eat) September 30, 2009, 8:26 am

I was wondering where you went! Updating my google reader now. 🙂

  • Weekly Bite September 30, 2009, 8:30 am

I love running in the cool weather!

  • Cindy September 30, 2009, 8:31 am

Hi Caitlin …I found you from your interview with Alison…

I love your Operation beautiful! and I think it’s a Wonderful campaign! good for you

    that spibelt looks PERFECT!

  • Katerina September 30, 2009, 8:48 am

So, yeah. I need one of these, I totally lost my house key during my run yesterday morning. It was terrible! I had to retrace my steps in the rainy dark, but I did find it.

    Love the new look!!

  • Laura@FindingAHealthyBalance September 30, 2009, 8:55 am

I AM SO HAPPY “FALL” HAS FINALLY HIT FLORIDA (ORLANDO) TOO!!! My daughter walked out of the house this morning and said “oh it is cold out here” and I did a double take, checked and then smiled……finally! However, we both know it won’t last for long, lets just hope it stays a while and returns soon. =)

I have been wanting to get a “pack” like the Spibelt and think I will get that one for sure. When running the Miracle Miles 5K this past weekend, I was upset that I couldn’t run with my camera and snap pictures for my blog…..the Spibelt will work great for that and also Goo’s & Bean’s for my future long runs also like you. Thank you for mentioning it.

Have a great Fall Day! =) Laura @Finding A Healthy Balance

  • Jolene (www.everydayfoodie.ca) September 30, 2009, 9:00 am

Oooooh I want a spibelt! I never know what to do with my keys when I go on a walk/ run.

  • Annamarina (Running Tails) September 30, 2009, 9:03 am

I’m so glad you did a review of this belt! I need to buy one for my upcoming marathon to carry my gels and camera. I recently bought a fuel belt with bottles to use on my long runs, but don’t plan to use it during the race. Thanks again for the review!

  • christie, honoring health September 30, 2009, 9:15 am

Oh, man, so glad I stopped by. I thought to myself this morning that my reader wasn’t showing me your posts, now I know why.

  • jenna September 30, 2009, 9:28 am

Thanks for the review. I get really irritated with things like that when running….but this one actually looks comfy and useful.

  • Lauren September 30, 2009, 9:45 am

The spibelt looks like a GREAT way to carry everything. I always wondered what it would be like to wear something around your waist. That is great!

  • Lizzy September 30, 2009, 9:48 am

this review is awesome! SpiBelt seems like such a great product, and i would really consider buying one after reading this! 🙂 thanks girl!

  • Gloria September 30, 2009, 10:35 am

I’m glad you like the spibelt because I love mine! I can fit my blackberry, ID, house key, and like 3 GUs in there and I always forget I’m wearing it.

Isn’t this weather amazing?! It makes me so happy 🙂

  • Jenna September 30, 2009, 3:48 pm

nothing wrong with too much blueberry!

I desperately need to invest in one of these spibelts… I’ve been stopping by home for refueling needs on my longruns!
