Pre-Race Post

in All Posts

I LOVE writing race recaps, but I also love pre-race posts!  I always feel so excited and positive.  I’m hardly ever nervous — what’s there to be scared of?  All races are great races, in my opinion!

My clothes are laid out….  I’ve already got my number, so that’s one less thing to worry about tomorrow morning.

I took one of my old race numbers and wrote an Operation Beautiful message on the back.  I pinned it to the back of my shirt!  I think this will be fun during the race — I hope people find it motivating (but not so motivating that they beat me…. heh).

Other race-day essentials:

For brevity, my afternoon snacks included:

  • A banana with a spoonful of Barney Butter
  • Nuts
  • Cereal

Before dinner, Meghann, Katy, Lucas, and I met up at Track Shack so we could pick up our packets.  As you all know, turning me loose in Track Shack is dangerous because I want to buy EVERYTHING!

We checked out all the sweet running gear that Track Shack has to offer, including nipple guards:

Nipple guards are for men during marathons.  Their shirts rub against their nips and they bleed.  True story.  Really gross.  And funny.

After Track Shack, we headed to Dandelion for some hippie vegetarian foodKelly and some other friends joined us.

As usually, I ordered the Iced Tea of the Day.  I got the Honeysuckle Rooibos:

IMG_1667

Which I had with the Mama’s Mix and a salad.  I love quinoa!

IMG_1668

I just love this restaurant… I always feel so healthy when I eat here.  It’s nice to walk out of a place and not feel stuffed to the brim with greasy food!

IMG_1669

And I ate two Almond Butter and Jelly cups, which Meghann brought for the group to share.  These are amazing (and an original Oh She Glows recipe)!

I’m going to TRY to get a good night’s sleep… and then it’s RACE TIME!

May 2009 – 2010 Race Season be as successful, fun, and enjoyable as all of my previous races!  With good friends and exciting new challenges, how can it not be?

Good luck tomorrow! I have short race tomorrow also. Don't you just love a short race in the middle of all those long runs? I know I love a break from long runs every weekend.

That recipe does look good. And what a FANTASTIC and heartwarming message to put on the back of your top. I know I would be very inspired if I saw it. Great idea! Good luck!

  • Hallie September 11, 2009, 8:35 pm

Wow that video kinda gave me the chills. I don't know if I'll ever be a runner like you are, but I'm doing my first 10k in 8 weeks, and I'm really excited to take on the challenge. I hope one day I get that look on my face from running that you get on yours. I've been feeling kinda down about running lately, like I suck at it too much, but this video really inspired me to keep it up. Thanks!

  • Deva (Voracious Vorilee) September 11, 2009, 8:53 pm

Good luck with your race tomorrow! I can't wait to read your recap. I love how you wrote an operation beautiful message to pin to the back of your shirt – I think that's a great idea. 🙂

  • Angharad (Eating for England) September 11, 2009, 9:08 pm

Wooo! Good luck! I have probably said this before but I only started running this year (in march) and I am gearing up for my first 15k in a few weeks. I'm starting to get quite nervous but that little video montage actually got me pumped!

  • greensandjeans September 11, 2009, 9:12 pm

Good luck! I kind of wish I was running a 5k instead of a very hot 8 miler alone!

  • Jenna September 11, 2009, 10:06 pm

Good luck, Caitlin! Looking forward you to your race recap–yours are always my favorites and I have found them all really helpful at one point or another!

  • Caitlin at Healthy Tipping Point September 12, 2009, 2:22 am

Hallie – You will do great on your race. Running has definitely not always been easy for me, as most people who have read the blog for a while know. Whenever you feel frustrated by it, remember that the ability to run is a gift that many people don't get. I also like to think about the fact that in some countries, women aren't even allowed to run. If you need extra motivation, google "switzer" and "boston marathon"! GOOD LUCK

    THANK YOU EVERYONE

  • Kristin (Kristin's Nibbles) September 12, 2009, 4:06 am

Oh, and nipple guards aren't just for men. I'm sporting a pair of DD's and they come in handy. True story. Really gross and definitely not funny. ouch!

WOW! If that video doesn't motivate me….I don't know what will. I used to run…and keep telling myself I'm going to get back into it. I need to set goals and get out there and do it!

    Good job C. 🙂

Glad you didn't give up the beer totally 😉
