My first Team in Training meeting was held at my favorite place on the planet — Track Shack!

Track Shack is THE Orlando running store, and the people who own the place are so knowledgeable and friendly — I could sing their praises all day long.  The best part of Track Shack?  Gobs and gobs of running gear!

Including sports bras for every size and impact need!  And let me tell you, I needed a new bra.

And Gamins, oh holy Garmins…. I want one of you so badly.

And tons of fun running paraphernalia — like these old posters!  I ran Gasparilla last year (this poster is from the year I was born!):

And a old Disney Marathon poster (which I will be running in January):

First, we received a presentation about proper footwear.  The thing about Team in Training is that it’s designed to literally take a couch potato and make them a marathoner in 4 months, so a lot of this information was basic — although, I’m sure, very necessary.  It was a good presentation regardless!

I had never met my coaches or teammates before and it was nice to finally say hello. I wore my No Meat Athlete t-shirt.  :)  I figured everyone would learn at least two things about me right away (I’m a vegetarian and I take running seriously — kind of!).

Then, I got to SHOP!

IMG_0926

New knee sleeves, new shoes (same as before, Brooks Summons), goo packets, Body Glide

And a new sports bra (tech shirt was free).    Um, needless to say, I always spend WAY too much money at Track Shack!  But tonight, I received a 10% discount through Team in Training, so it was all good.  I feel really motivated right now.  Something about buying running gear makes me really excited.  🙂

Here are my eats:

Dinner was fast and simple.  Just tomato soup and 2 slices of toast with hummus.  My camera ate the picture — sorry!

Snacks included pumpkin seeds:

Yogurt and Kashi TLC bar (Maggie says, "Hmmm! This looks GOOD!")

And a plum:

Off to bed!  I have a run planned in the AM with Megan.

Hey Caitlin: I can't wait to hear about all your team in training sessions.. I have a questions about goo packets.. I have been increasing my miles.. at what point do you take one?? are they good?? I have never tried anything during my runs but I feel like it could defiantly help me now that I have been increasing my miles.

  • Caitlin at Healthy Tipping Point August 27, 2009, 6:33 pm

megan- i take them when im on longer runs of about 7 – 8 miles and over. you dont really need them for anything under that. they aren't "good" but you get used to the taste. they also have jelly beans and bloks you can try. plain old gummi bears work too!!

  • Julia August 27, 2009, 6:38 pm

What fun! I love getting new running gear! And I'm pretty sure I have that same sports bra and I LOVE it, so supportive!
    Have a great Friday!

Track shack sounds like a cool place, love all your buys!

  • Dori August 27, 2009, 7:01 pm

I like the shot blocks taste, never had the goo. Also never ran much more than 3 miles! I am excited to hear about your Team in Training. Couch potato to marathoner in 4 months… that sounds enticing. Maybe one day!

  • ms August 27, 2009, 7:02 pm

ohh…i love track shack, also. i try to wait until the very last minute to go in there ~ it's kind of like target ~ i can't stay in there too long or else i'm eating mac n cheese for dinner for the rest of the month to make up for my over-spending!

another fun thing about track shack is that i always run into local 'celebrities' while i'm in there (particularly newscasters).

    have fun with your training!!

  • skinnyrunner August 27, 2009, 7:14 pm

I love buying new running gear! I always can't wait to go out for a run when I get something new to wear.

  • liveloveeatandplay August 27, 2009, 7:29 pm

Not to sound weird, but I LOVE that sports bra. The Fiona by Moving Fit, right? It's the best one I own!
    Love the shirt too!

  • Lizzy August 27, 2009, 7:29 pm

new running stuff always makes me excited for runs!

  • Rosey Rebecca August 27, 2009, 7:46 pm

I love shopping for workout gear!! Maggie looks adorable in that pic! (as always) 🙂

  • Angela (Run Study Eat) August 27, 2009, 7:50 pm

omg! I def want one of those stores in SF!!! I'm going on a search!

  • Shelly August 27, 2009, 7:58 pm

I need to go shopping at the running store soon myself. My list looks a lot like yours- new shoes, body glide and goo, but I need more running shorts instead of a sports bra. (I also need more running socks.)

  • simonssezsam August 27, 2009, 7:59 pm

Brooks are the only shoes I could ever run in no matter what I tried. If you're not already on the team, you should apply for Brooks i.d., you'd be a great member!

  • Caroline August 27, 2009, 8:32 pm

LOVE track stores…almost as much as I love Whole Foods.

  • Jolene - EverydayFoodie August 27, 2009, 9:15 pm

That doggie of yours is just too darn cute!

  • wholebodylove August 27, 2009, 9:36 pm

I started Team In Training right before I became pregnant with my daughter and I was a VERY new runner. Unfortunatly, since my body was not used to the intense workout, my OB recommended I halt the training 🙁 But, I really want to get back to it! Hopefully next year. I think raising the money could be a hurdle as well.

  • Gillian August 27, 2009, 9:41 pm

    Wait….
there is hope for those of us (new) runners with a large chest? I had no idea. Really. I guess I'll go check out a running store though from my search online VA Runners doesn't seem to have sports bras.

  • Susan August 27, 2009, 9:48 pm

The No Meat Athlete shirts make me seriously consider going vegetarian…how's that for motivation??

  • Kathleen August 27, 2009, 9:57 pm

Wow, look at all of your fun gear! I love the No Meat Athlete concept because people are always telling me I can't be a "great" athlete because I don't eat meat…I tell them I can be just as good an athlete…if not better 😉

    PS…HUUUUUGE KNIFE!

  • Lainie August 27, 2009, 10:01 pm

Love the track shack! I grew in up in Winter Park, FL., so I used to always get my running stuff there. I love it when I go back home to visit my family and the timing is just right to stop in and buy new shoes.

    Love your dog. Love him!!

  • Whitney@whitsgettingfit August 27, 2009, 10:26 pm

    I need: new shoes.

    I have: no money.

    I will: be toenail-less

  • Janessa August 28, 2009, 12:26 am

What a cute picture of Maggie!

  • robinbb August 28, 2009, 3:59 am

I went on my 2nd trip to Track Shack a few weeks ago while I was in Florida, I love that store! Great deals.

And I wore my No Meat Athlete shirt while on vacation as well, love that shirt!

  • Shannon August 28, 2009, 4:16 am

I went to my first specialty running store yesterday. It was so much fun. I had to restrain myself from buying them out!

  • Niki August 28, 2009, 5:39 am

Yay for meeting your TNT peeps! Love the new gear!

  • seesaraheat August 28, 2009, 6:20 am

Yay for new running gear! It's a worth investment, one you will get good use out of. I love the no meat athlete shirt 🙂

  • ML Welz August 28, 2009, 6:22 am

Ok… does the body glide really work??? I shy away from exercising in shorts because of the chaffing issue but was hesitant about using the body glide.

  • Elsa August 28, 2009, 6:24 am

Don't worry, I can never walk into a running store without spending too much money. Those stores are always a runners heaven.
Oh and Maggie… she is too darn cute!

  • Caitlin at Healthy Tipping Point August 28, 2009, 6:26 am

ML I have never tried it but I will let you know! other runners swear by it so im sure it does.

  • beesknees August 28, 2009, 9:11 am

I love the 80's Gasparilla poster, and seriously at first I was thinking "oh yeah Gasparilla, that is a great name for me when I am on a tough run…gasping for air like Godzilla" but then I saw the poster and realized its a race 🙂

  • Ali August 28, 2009, 10:22 am

YAY! Looks like you got some great stuff. I love getting new sports bras, it just makes me happy.

Want to know what makes me happier? Pictures of Maggie…she is just adorable!
