A Beach Moment

in All Posts

The Husband and I decided to go to the beach today — OK, we really just wanted to drive our new car somewhere fun!  🙂

Before we left, I had yogurt, a crushed Kashi bar, and blueberries:

CIMG6519

We didn’t get to the beach until 4:00, which was fine by us.  My Hubby is a British redhead and I simply cannot stand the heat!

CIMG6531

We tried to set up our tailgating tent…. we struggled with it for about 15 minutes before we realized that it was missing legs!  Stupid cheap Wal-Mart.

CIMG6535

Um, so we totally sat under a 1/2 tall tent.  We looked like freaks, but I didn’t care!  Better to be shady!

Here’s Part 1 of my packed dinner:

CIMG6537

Fruit, hummus, celery.  Plus, Part 2: Salt and Vinegar chips:

(We split the bag).

Apparently, I passed out on my towel because about 40 minutes later, the Hus woke me up and pointed out a giant black cloud rolling to us:

CIMG6539

Yikes!  We quickly packed up and drove back home.

Weekly ice cream pit stop at Coldstone:

Coffee with Reese’s mix-in!

On the way home, the Husband talked about how he just isn’t a beach person.  Part of it is his redheaded-ness, but he also hates getting sandy.  I LOVE THE BEACH, and I could lay out in the sand under an umbrella forever.  I knew when we got married that beach-centered vacations were probably not a part of our future together.  :)

Do you like the beach or the pool more?

  • Hi! I'm Erin June 27, 2009, 4:38 pm

I love the sound of the waves crashing on the shore and I love the expanse of water until the horizon. But I don't particularly love having sand everywhere, either. But pools just don't have the view that the beach does so I usually suck it up and deal with the sand.

    LOVE THE BEACH!!!

How long did it take you to drive there!? Unless you're posting from the car, that was a quick trip there and back and laying around and eating!

  • Caitlin at Healthy Tipping Point June 27, 2009, 4:59 pm

kath – 40 minutes. we seriously drove there, ate, fell asleep for 40 minutes, and drove back. LOL

  • Beth June 27, 2009, 5:05 pm

I'm not a huge beach person either, but let me tell ya….take a beach vacation to Hawaii. The hub will be transformed! I just went to Kauai and cannot believe the beauty of the beaches there. Plus there's a ton of other cool naturey things to do!

  • leslie June 27, 2009, 5:05 pm

i seriously adore the beach. my dream is to spend every day of a summer just laying in the sand. (under an umbrella of course!) maybe when i win the lottery. 🙂

that black cloud looks scary! good idea to book it out of there.

  • teacherwoman June 27, 2009, 5:12 pm

I like both for different reasons. But I so would choose the beach over the pool for relaxing purposes. There's just something about it! 🙂

  • Meg C. June 27, 2009, 5:14 pm

Neither! I love fresh water – I grew up spending summers on a lake, and it's gorgeous. No chlorine or sand or salt!

  • Jenn Eats Nutritiously Now June 27, 2009, 5:20 pm

I love that first picture. So cool!

  • Nutritious is Delicious June 27, 2009, 5:21 pm

MMMMMMM to the ice cream! I love the spontaneous beach trip…and great beach eats! 😀

  • jesslikesithot June 27, 2009, 5:24 pm

Beach!! I just got back from the perfect 3 hour sesh!! Laid out, went in the water, and got a little tan on!

But I loveeeee FL weather, the hot thunderstorm-y nights were always my fave (when I used to visit my grandparents a bunch) !! 🙂

  • redhead75 June 27, 2009, 5:25 pm

I love the beach more. I'm a redhead so I have to be very careful even though I do tan easily

That's a cool pic of the storm cloud!

  • Anonymous June 27, 2009, 5:28 pm

the beach! People who don't live near a coast are missing on something so relaxing, nothing can compare.

  • Marissa June 27, 2009, 5:29 pm

    Cool clouds!

  • katecooks June 27, 2009, 5:30 pm

beach beach beach! i love it in the winter for a relaxing moment of solitude, and in the dead of the summer early in the morning with a cup of coffee and bagel before the crowds show up. like my morning today actually 🙂

  • healthymadison June 27, 2009, 5:46 pm

I am more of a pool person but at the beach! haha. So I can have both options. 🙂 I just hate getting sandy and all sticky at the beach.

  • whitsgettingfit June 27, 2009, 5:52 pm

I am so a beach person, but more than that a COLDSTONE person!

  • Niki June 27, 2009, 6:03 pm

That's a hard choice! I guess I would not pick either and say the lake is my number one!! But I love all bodies of water!!

  • coco June 27, 2009, 6:10 pm

Hands down the beach is 20 million X better!!! Especially when it's finished with ice cream!

  • Matt June 27, 2009, 6:12 pm

I prefer the pool. I am a clean freak and the sand just drives me insane. It gets everywhere!

  • Sam June 27, 2009, 6:41 pm

I love beaches. There's something about the ocean that makes me feel so alive. There's nothing better than walking along a quiet beachfront with the waves crashing on your feet.

  • Angie (Losing It and Loving It) June 27, 2009, 7:04 pm

Ahhh the beach! I am now a beach lover ever since we started vacationing in Negril, Jamaica 3 years ago. I never liked sand because of the feel of it but when my toes felt the soft sand there, I was sold. Before that it was totally the pool.

I'm a red head too so I have to be very careful. I burn more here in IL than I do in Jamaica. Weird!

  • *One Step at a Time* June 27, 2009, 7:31 pm

Wow! That cloud is pretty intense looking. I am truthfully much more of a pool person! 🙂

  • Meganerd June 27, 2009, 7:42 pm

You guys are so funny… I love it.

    😀

  • gymratfoodie June 27, 2009, 7:46 pm

I live in NJ so beachy weekends by the shore are pretty much a requisite… but I don't really like sand, or sun, or getting wet 😛

I prefer the pool. Inside a really nice resort or something 😉

hope you had a good day!

  • Jennifer @ His N' Her Health June 27, 2009, 7:51 pm

I really don't like either. I am a pale blonde! I literally got sunburned on father's day waiting outside for our table for about 15 minutes. I love big cities and would rather be there than a beach.

  • Oh She Glows June 27, 2009, 8:02 pm

Eric is Irish and he HATES the sun…so much so that if he's in it for longer than 1 hour he really dislikes it. I am not a sun lover myself, but I also don't hate it. I have fair skin so I have to wear like 60 SPF when I go out for runs or whatnot!

Man that black cloud is CRAZY!!! I forgot what the storms were like in FL!

  • Danielle C. June 27, 2009, 8:04 pm

I am much more of a pool person, I like the beach too but honestly sometimes the sand starts to annoy me because it gets everywhere. I really only like to get in the water when I am too hot from the sun. So the pool is easier.

Here in Washington most of our beaches are full of rocks because of the geologic composition of our region so I guess maybe that is the why I like the pool more too LOL.

  • heyitstay June 27, 2009, 8:19 pm

Mmmm Coldstones 🙂 That looks great.

I love the IDEA of the beach, but the sand always gets in the way!! I think I like being at the beach in beachy clothes and wandering around the boardwalk shops.

We went to the beach today too, but it was too foggy to get out of the car!

  • Mrs. Myers @ Eat Move Write June 27, 2009, 8:20 pm

I know what you mean – my hubby doesn't love it either! I do hate sand all over. You're cleaning it out of your ears for like 2 days, I swear. Have a great Sunday Caitlin!

  • Meghann June 27, 2009, 8:20 pm

Don't worry I'll go on beach centered vacations with you!

  • Jocelyn June 27, 2009, 8:24 pm

yikes that cloud looks scary lol

I'm a pool gal. but i like to lay on the beach..just not so much swim in the ocean..

  • Danielle June 27, 2009, 8:34 pm

Beach for sure – you don't get to listen to waves at the pool!

  • Anna June 27, 2009, 10:08 pm

neither- I live on a lake! And as a result, I'm really not a fan of the beach just like your hus- way too hot and salty for this pale sister.

  • Tasty Health Food June 28, 2009, 12:49 am

Your fruit looks so colorful! Yogurt is always a nice way to start off the morning too. 😀

  • Thinspired June 28, 2009, 2:16 am

My hubby doesn't do well in the sun either, but he hasn't realized it yet. He keeps thinking that once we move back to the US he'll develop new skin or something and get used to it. Poor guy. He turns bright red within ten minutes out there! But I'm a CA girl and I love it! 🙂

  • SWEETPEA37814 June 28, 2009, 4:10 am

The best is to be poolside at the beach.Love to look at the ocean and walk in the sand but I prefer pool watre to salt water.

  • Susan June 28, 2009, 5:01 am

Ha, my boyfriend hates the beach too. He's really fair and blonde and HATES wearing sunscreen. A recipe for a very red boyfriend all summer 😛

I like laying on the beach, but I'm not a huge fan of swimming in open water. Mainly because I don't like to share my swimming space with sea creatures. *shiver*

  • Tina June 28, 2009, 5:16 am

I love the beach! It makes me feel so free! That is one major scary dark cloud! Good thing you got out of there before it hit ya! And what better way to end the day than with some ice cream! 🙂 It's a muuust during the summer! 🙂

  • Ada June 28, 2009, 5:20 am

I'm not a huge beach person either, but sometimes it is definitely nice to lay out on the beach:) I love your coldstone choice by the way! I always order coffee ice cream when I'm there:)

  • Aileen June 28, 2009, 5:40 am

LOVE the beach. My hus is the same way.

  • Stacey June 28, 2009, 6:35 am

BEACH!! There is just something about the atmosphere that is so relaxing!

Yay for a Coldstone stop 🙂 Jas and I do a TCBY stop weekly too haha

  • crossbordercravings June 28, 2009, 7:13 am

The beach – hands down! It is so refreshing to be in fresh water instead of the icky chlorinated water of a pool. 😛

  • NYgirl@heart June 28, 2009, 7:54 am

    Hey Caitlin–
I love the beach, but I'm not much of a lay on the beach kind of girl. I get bored way too easily..I need to get up and run around and play. But I'd much rather play in the sand than at the pool. Beach is better, hands down!

  • Island Girl Eats June 28, 2009, 9:40 am

We live on the beach and I hardly ever go out there!

  • BethAnn Caputo June 28, 2009, 10:08 am

THE BEACH! I am such a beach person…I could lay out for hoursssss

  • catiechurch June 28, 2009, 10:13 am

I've honestly never been to a beach! haha I live in a town outside of Chicago. And that is our goal to go this summer to one of the Chicago beaches.

  • Adi (oatonomy.com) June 28, 2009, 12:55 pm

The BEACH! Nothing like following asleep on the sand. 🙂
    That cloud looks so neat.

  • Jen and Rob June 28, 2009, 1:12 pm

Love the beach! We've spent the last four weekends out there!

  • Low June 28, 2009, 2:24 pm

I like both! Probably the beach more just because I only get to go to the beach once or twice a year.

That ice cream looks so good, it's a good thing I'm not presentable to go out in public right now or I'd be getting some!

  • Emily June 28, 2009, 2:33 pm

I like walking on the beach and feeling the breeze, but like your hubby, I don't like just laying on the beach and getting all sandy. I would much rather lay beside a nice pool and jump in refreshing calm water.

  • Jess June 29, 2009, 8:11 am

That storm picture is great. I love watching rain rolling in off the water, or from any distance.

I grew up a river rat, but I love the beach too. The salt air just makes me feel alive.

  • seesaraheat July 1, 2009, 5:44 am

Lol, how did you two end up in Florida?!

I love the beach but I'm nowhere near one and haven't been to one in several years 🙁 Must go soon!

Pools are nice but just not the same.
