Eat What You Crave

in All Posts

Immediately after showering off the sweat and dirt from my 36-mile bike ride, I had a lovely snack of yogurt, blackberries, and Kashi Heart to Heart.  But, my camera ate the picture! πŸ™‚

I tooled around the house for most of the afternoon, doing laundry and other chores.  I was so parched from my workout that I made myself a glass of iced yerba mate.

 CIMG5426

We bought this straight from a Spanish grocery store a few months back and put it in the freezer for storage:

CIMG5424

CIMG5425

It was delicious and refreshing!

By 4:00 PM, I was positively starving, but I kept doing that this when you open the fridge, stare inside, and shut it. The only thing I wanted to eat was pancakes!

CIMG5427

Sometimes, you just got to listen to your cravings!  I knew if I didn’t eat pancakes, I would probably just graze in the kitchen mindlessly trying to satisfy that particular craving.  So I went for the gold! :)  Breakfast for lunch!

CIMG5428

Plus banana and maple syrup.

AND THEN…..

THE HUSBAND CAME HOME FROM HIS VACATION! πŸ™‚ I was SO excited to see his lovely face — we haven’t been together since Thursday (way too long!).

We decided to go on a "date" to one of our favorite wine bars, Eola Wine Bar in downtown Orlando.

CIMG5430

We picked this place because it also has some decent vegetarian options.  I’m proud to say that the Husband has not eaten meat in a whole week!  He’s doing so well.

We split a flight of sweet white wines:

CIMG5436

From left to right:

  • Sofia (a Blanc to Blanc champagne) from Monterey, CA
  • Conundrum (a white blend) from Napa, CA
  • Silvan Ridge "Early" (a Muscat) from Willamette, OR
  • Kreusch (a Riesling) from Mosel, Germany

Pretending I’m back in Napa  (Remember the Honeymoon – Part I and Part II?)

    CIMG5443

I liked the Muscat and the Reisling the best, but the Blanc to Blanc was also great!

The Husband liked it all (as usual):

CIMG5442

We split two dinners:

CIMG5445

The Eola Flatbread, a pesto, mozzarella, and fresh and sun-dried tomato pizza.

I ate three of the flatbread slices (two are shown).  This is a side bread plate:

CIMG5449

Plus, a Veggie Wrap with eggplant, mushrooms, asparagus, goat cheese, field greens, tomato, and roasted red peppers.

CIMG5446

I ate 1/2 of the wrap.

CIMG5450

Dinner tonight was another good example of eating what you crave.  After 4 oz. of wine, the flatbread, and the wrap, I wasn’t stuffed — just satisfied.  The Husband wanted to order himself another flight, but I chose to switch to water and just hang out.   A few years ago, I would have struggled with not eating or drinking more just for the sake of it…. but really thought about whether I was actually craving another glass or dessert, and I wasn’t — so it made it easy to pass.  And now I don’t feel painfully full!  Which is always good.

It was a really nice dinner. πŸ™‚ I’m glad the Husband is home!

Are you a wine drinker?  What’s your favorite — red or white?  I much prefer sweet whites!

  • Nate May 24, 2009, 5:31 pm

Kate’s with you with the sweet whites. I like reds. Thanks for hitting your pancake quota today. I was getting worried after breakfast was pancake free.

  • K from ksgoodeats May 24, 2009, 5:31 pm

Hooray for pancakes!! I love it!

That restaurant sounds awesome! Glad you and the Hubs are reunited πŸ™‚ I’m not a red wine fan at all! I do love me some white though πŸ˜‰

  • meegie lee May 24, 2009, 5:36 pm

  • SuzanneRN May 24, 2009, 5:46 pm

Eola looks wonderful! However.. when I first read it I thought it said Ebola and I got a little freaked out! haha.

  • redheadedjournal May 24, 2009, 5:51 pm

    I LOVE reds!

  • Jess May 24, 2009, 5:57 pm

I adore Eola, although we frequent the WP location more often. I love how their flights rotate so you have new options all the time. I haven’t been in a few months now (since I don’t live in Orlando….but my bestie does and I visit her ALOT) but now I’m really longing to go.
    Enjoy your holiday!
PS. I’m more of a dry white wine drinker. Anything that is light, or citrusy.

  • Bec May 24, 2009, 6:01 pm

I’m a dry red drinker, I have a glass about once or twice a week at school but since I’m home for the summer its more like 4-5 times since my parents drink wine with dinner every night

  • iowagirleats May 24, 2009, 6:03 pm

My fave is Relax riesling…soooo good!

  • Tanya May 24, 2009, 6:07 pm

I am nowhere near knowledgeable about wine – but I love the stuff πŸ™‚ I prefer white and like you I like them sweet (but not too sweet). I like Rieslings mostly – but it varies.

  • Recipes for Creativity May 24, 2009, 6:08 pm

    Yay, what a nice day!

I like reds in the winter and whites in the summer. I went to New Zealand two years ago and hit many wineries and it was actually the first time I had Reisling, it was so delicious! Before that I mostly drank reds. I like my whites sweet, too!

  • Joy May 24, 2009, 6:09 pm

i loooove wine even though i do not know much about it at all- i’ve never even been to a wine tasting! but i definitely prefer reds!

  • Mara @ What's For Dinner? May 24, 2009, 6:23 pm

I’m a huge fan of sweet whites, and my favorite is either Pinot Grigio or Reisling, depending on my mood. Looks like a great bunch of meals!

  • Island Girl Eats May 24, 2009, 6:24 pm

    I love all reds!
That looked like a really nice dinner that you shared. Sharing is fun, it’s nice to try a bit of everything, without eating it all!

  • A Toronto girl out West May 24, 2009, 6:43 pm

Oh my!!! Am I ever craving a glass of chilled white wine now. In fact I’ve been craving it for a while!

I’m saving it though! This next Friday I officially get called to the bar (I’m a lawyer) in British Columbia. We’re going out to an awesome restaurant afterward and I plan on indulging!!!! :o)

  • Erica May 24, 2009, 6:49 pm

What a nice dinner you had with the husband πŸ™‚ You two are so cute. I don’t like wine-which is so funny because my parents are BIG into wine. Pancakes are just the best quick meal- aren’t they?

  • katecooks May 24, 2009, 6:52 pm

i used to be a red drinker but now i love whites best. voignier is my favorite! trader joes makes a great one called honey moon that’s only five bucks!!!! im going out tonight and definitely going to try to take some cues from you…STOPPING eating and drinking when im done!!!!

  • Joelle May 24, 2009, 6:56 pm

    Yay for pancakes! My favorite!

  • elliebelle May 24, 2009, 6:58 pm

I’m with you on the sweet whites. I just found one at Target that I thought looked like fun – mostly because of the name – it’s called “Middle Sister – wicked white.” Being a middle child, I couldn’t resist! πŸ™‚ I hope it’s good!!!

  • Anne May 24, 2009, 7:05 pm

Those pancakes look delicious! Yay for the husband coming home! It looks like you guys had a great time πŸ˜€

  • Niki May 24, 2009, 7:07 pm

I love wine!! I used to be a red drinker only but now I love whites! White seems so much more refreshing but I still drink both!

  • SuzanneRN May 24, 2009, 7:09 pm

  • jenngirl May 24, 2009, 7:25 pm

I loved reading how you just went with your cravings today, that’s awesomE!!

And great night out with the Husband…I’m a HUGE wine fan, I go through stages though. Right now, I’m loving Pinot Grigio, but other times a Pinot Noir is what I crave πŸ™‚

  • spunkysuzi May 24, 2009, 7:43 pm

I love iced yerba mate πŸ™‚
For wine i like a dry white or red. Especially a nice shiraz or merlot!

  • Oh She Glows May 24, 2009, 7:49 pm

I used to only drink red, but now I find myself drinking white more often (less hangovers!)

Might I just add that you skin is GLOWING girlfriend!?!?

  • havefaith4ever May 24, 2009, 7:59 pm

Glad your hubby is home πŸ™‚ I'm sure you're happy! I totally agree with you–sometimes you gotta eat what you crave. ESP. when there's pancakes involved πŸ˜‰

  • seesaraheat May 24, 2009, 8:19 pm

You are so right about eating what you crave! Sometimes I will get an idea for something in my head and if I don’t eat that particular thing, I will not be satisfied by what I did have and end up going back for something else I did not need. So good for you! I hope to practice that more often πŸ˜‰

  • Lee May 24, 2009, 8:31 pm

I prefer whites. I think I like dry wines but am not really sure what that actually means! I know that I prefer Savignon Blanc and Chardonnay to Pinot Grigio.

  • Erin of Care to Eat May 24, 2009, 9:06 pm

You guys are sooooo beautiful! Your babies will be amazing!
I don’t drink except for like, once a year or every other year. BUT, I love a good DRY white.

  • Julie May 24, 2009, 9:26 pm

I definitely like white over red. In class we did food pairing and wine tasting and i hated tasting the reds!

  • Hi! I'm Erin May 24, 2009, 10:05 pm

Hmm, I’ve never had cold yerba mate. Just hot. I’ll have to try it!

I LOVE wine. I used to be a sweet white wine only kind of girl. Now almost prefer reds. Malbecs are my current favorites, but I’ll pretty much drink anything you put in front of me.

  • Christy May 24, 2009, 10:25 pm

I love reds! I tried a Sofia Riesling at a wine tasting here in Monterey on Thursday! Of all the Rieslings at the tasting, it was my favorite!

  • Susan May 25, 2009, 2:57 am

I am not a wine drinker at all! I’ve tried and tried to get a taste for it, but every kind of wine I drink just makes me cringe. Except champagne, I can do that!

Now beer on the other hand, that’s a different story…

  • Carlee May 25, 2009, 3:46 am

Sounds like a very fun date. We have a winery near us that I love to go to. My favorite wine is Savignon Blanc. But I also love a GOOD pint of beer. Living in Burlington, Vt turned me into a beer snob so I’m pretty picky πŸ™‚ Whereas wine I rarely can tell a difference.

  • Caitlin at Healthy Tipping Point May 25, 2009, 4:17 am

katecooks – voignier is my favorite! Isnt it great?

erin – haha no babies anytime soon, sorry! πŸ™‚ thanks though.

  • Catch Me If You Can May 25, 2009, 4:29 am

I don’t drink so wine not my thing πŸ˜‰ Yummy pancakes what mix do you use or recipe? I have been craving pancakes, but need a healthier version. All of the places you’ve been eating lately look like they have AMAZING food.

  • Bridget May 25, 2009, 8:33 am

I love Reisling, but much prefer reds like chianti and merlot!

  • bhealthier May 25, 2009, 9:13 am

aw you look so gorgeous in that pic smelling the wine!! i love that orange color on you!

I prefer reislings and sweeter whites but my favorites are dry rich reds.
    cab franc is my fav

I think eating what you crave is always the way to go!! Happy Memorial Day to you and your grandpa too!

  • heather May 25, 2009, 6:03 pm

I’ve never been to Eola Wine — always mean to but never make it down there. I prefer sweeter whites, too. I’m a Riesling girl myself.

And yes, I’d love to meet up sometime! Maybe for wine… haha.

  • elise May 26, 2009, 6:09 pm
