Morning!  I’m going on a 40-mile bike ride with Kelly, Meghann’s sister.

We’re traveling to the General James A. Van Fleet State Trail, a 30-mile rail-trail west of Orlando.  A rail-trail is a former railroad that has been converted to a trail.

This rail-trail is one of Florida’s most rural. It runs through the Green Swamp, the headwaters for some of Florida’s most canoed rivers, the Withlacoochee (South), Hillsborough, and Peace. Landscapes include the natural environments associated with the Green Swamp, former citrus lands and cattle ranches. With only one curve in its 30 miles, you can choose to go slow and view the wildlife or enjoy it at a brisk pace. The trail has excellent wildlife viewing opportunities between Green Pond Road and Bay Lake Road.

AKA – Come back later for cool animal photographs!

I had a hearty breakfast to fuel-up for a long bike ride (and a long drive):

I had delicious French Toast with fresh fruit.

I had three pieces of FT instead of two and used two eggs instead of one.  This will keep me full through a long ride!

After making breakfast, I rushed to my computer to check out Meghann’s pre-marathon post.  I am soooo excited for her!  She’s going to call Kelly and I before the race.  If you want to follow her progress starting at 6:30 AM Pacific Time/9:30 AM Eastern Time, you can go to http://www.rnrmarathon.com and enter bib #13188 in to the ‘Track My Runner’ link.

Are you a weekend warrior?  I think working 67 hours and cramming all my exercise days into the weekend certainly makes me a weekend warrior!

Nah, I'm more of a weekend slacker, but I'm definitely working on upping my workload on the weekends to ease up the pressure during the weekdays. 😉

YUM for extra French toast & eggs. It sounds like you're going to need the energy on your bike ride! Can't wait to see the pics. 🙂

    Definitely!!
All my long runs are on the weekend, and any make up strength sessions 🙂

You are definitely a weekend warrior! I work on weekends, so I’m a mid-week warrior 😛

Good luck on your bike ride today!! That sounds like an awesome trail 🙂

Your bike ride sounds fantastic! Trying new routes is always exciting… it feels even less like exercise then. Have fun!

I hope you and Kelly have a great time on your ride today. Your french toast always looks so eggy and delicious.

Wow, 40 miles! Good luck! I am getting a new bike soon and I am so excited to go on long rides!

Have fun! That’s a crazy long bike ride, but looks like an awesome trail. Can’t wait to see the nature photos you post up. 😀

I’m a weekend slacker, I have to say. I exercise hardest during the week, and take the weekends to chill out a bit and refresh.

Thanks for the link to follow Meghann during her race!

I can’t wait to see what interesting adventures you have on this bike ride…

Hope you guys have a great ride today!!

While I do my long runs on the weekend, I also make Sunday my rest day, so I don’t think I can qualify myself as a weekend warrior. You definitely are though! I can’t wait to read all about your 40 mile bike ride. Such an intense experience – I hope it’s a blast!

I definitely DO a lot of things on the weekends, but I don’t think I’m a “warrior”… once the school year ends though, I’m a weekend LAZY PERSON! My summer job is 13 hour days, 5 days a week for 9 weeks…yay day camp!

Good luck! I do long runs on Saturday and rest on Sunday, so kind of. 🙂 You certainly are, though, go rock it!

    Enjoy your bike ride 🙂

I’m not really a weekend warrior. I usually do a long run on the weekend, but I pretty much just run whenever I want. If that means getting up at 5 during the week, no problems there.

Good luck on your ride today, can’t wait to see some animal pics!! I think I’m more of a mid week warrior since I work weekends:)

  • Amanda (Two Boos Who Eat) May 31, 2009, 8:57 am

    Enjoy your bike ride!

  • Anne May 31, 2009, 9:29 am

Wow, 40 miles? That’s cool! I hope you have a lot of fun 😀

I don’t know if I qualify as a “weekend warrior,” as I’m off school for the summer and don’t have a 9-5 job or anything. But I definitely like running races on weekends– nothing as hardcore as a super long bike ride or a marathon, though!

Hey I just realized you’re in/ by Polk county this morning (ahaha my (red)neck of the woods).

I’m sure you’ve already found this, but just in case here’s a website where they’re doing live video streaming from the finish line of the RNR Marathon – Meghann should be finishing relatively soon!
